ibrahimdoc: I want to say this, these igbos traders yorubas often neglect are very successful set of people, most of them a richer then Bank CEO, have you been to computer village, have you heard of Slot, have you been to trade fair, do you know these Alaba boys are heavy importers dealing directly with Chinese companies, some are having a customized brand of electronics...I have had the privilege to tour igbos states and of course Yoruba states, and I can confidently say that igbos are richer than Yoruba, it is only a blind man that will say otherwise...Yes yorubas are very rich, you guys normally call otudela and honeywell man, ask yourself how many are these people in Yoruba land and let me tell you, do you know that sME is what drives our economy just like in Thailand and do you know igbos control 80 percent of this? igbos dominate in real estate in Abuja and in Landed properties as confirmed by El rufia himself....Please give credit to the igbos, because these people were dispossessed of thier properties and monies after the war, normally they should not be compared with any section of Nigeria, but here we are comparing them with those that benefited most in the Indeginization policy...igbo wealth is well spread and that is true meaning of wealth, and not a few people will be multi millionaire while the rest will be living in Poverty..this is my contribution as a neutral person and I hope this settles the argument.. Just want the world to see how brain**lz you are ni |

scholes0: 1.2 is the difference... but that is not my concern. When did I ever concern myself with the number of Igbos begging in Yorubaland? I am telling you is that the yorubas begging in kano are most likely Northern themselves. The main intent of your thread is Yoruba vs igbo..... this time, beggars dimension, isnt it? It's doesn't matter whether he's right or wrong, after all SW has lower poverty rate than SE. Does it? |

igbobuigbo: There has been no tribal census in Nigeria, so shove your crap. Oh I see. You asked for it I gave it to you. Anyway. Whatever you intentions are, does it matter as long as poverty rate in SW is lower than SE It's |

igbobuigbo: I simply asking you in what place is Yoruba pop higher than Igbo pop. It's ok Nigeria Tribes and People We hope to answer any question you might have about Nigeria Tribes here. Recent statistics has shown that there is over 500 different tribes in Nigeria, while most people are very much aware of the three major tribes in Nigeria; Hausa Igbo and Yoruba, there myriad of other that are yet in obscurity Hausa is the biggest tribe in Nigeria they are the major inhabitants of about 10 state in Nigeria which includes; Bauchi, Borno, Niger,Taraba, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Kastina, Kebbi, Sokoto with traces in several other parts of the country. The myth or origin of the Hausas began with the story of a man (Bayajidda) who ran away from the east to escape his fathers fury. and stumbled on some people that happened to be the today Hausa The people (the Hausas) were Guarded (according to the myth) by a sacred snake that prevented them from getting water from their stream six days in a week. The man who later became their founder met a blacksmith who fashioned a knife with which he killed the snake and freed the people. In appreciation they gave him the princess of the land and they gave birth to the seven sons that made up the seven initial Hausa clans. The Yorubas are the second amongst other Nigeria tribes, The Yoruba spiritual heritage signifiies that the Yoruba tribe are a unique people who were probably created at Ile-Ife. Legend holds that the creation was delegated by the suvreignity, Olodumare. The name "Yoruba" is most likely an adaptation of 'Yo ru ebo', meaning "will venerate (make offerings to the) Orisha" Yoruba people remains one of the most traveled and advanced people from Western part of Africa. The Igbos are the third largest tribe in Nigeria, they are the Nigeria industrialists. The Igbo myth of Origin traces thier origin from Nri, the myth narrates how Eri, the hero of the Igbos descended from above with his wife Namaku, he sat on an ant-hill as the land was waterlogged. Later Chukwu Okike (The gods) sent a blacksmith who dried up the land with fire, charcoal and bellows. The couple subsequently begot four children, namely, Nri, Aguleri, Igbariam, and Amanuke in that other. And it is believed that the igbo race sprang up from this people and then the world. Apart from the above mentioned three major tribes in Nigeria, there are about four hundred-plus other tribes like the Amo, Anaguta, Andoni, Angas, Fulani, dupe, Ibibio, Idoma, Ikwerre, Kalabari, Abou, Ijaw and several others For Further reading About the country Nigeria see National Symbols of Nigeria Where is Nigeria? igbobuigbo: This study was conducted seceral years ago by two SW academics (see their names and schools below) using Kano, Enugu and Ibadan as typical North, SE and SW cities Here is the interesting SUMMARY: A lot of northerners beg in SW and SE More SEners (2%) beg in SW than SWner (0.8%) in SE. I guess this can be explained by the fact that more SEners (rich and poor) live in SW than SWners (rich and poor) in SE. Anyways, 2 and 0.8 are nearly similar. 0.8 is almost 1 Far less (only 0.8%) of the beggars in the North are Igbo as against 17.3% Yorubas begging in the North. This means far more Yorubas in the North are in dire financial straits than Igbos in the North Much more Muslims are beggars than Christians, even in the SE where there are fewer Muslims (I guess most of these would be the northern beggars in SE) More of the beggars from SE would not be begging did a calamity not happen to their source of livelihoods. |
