CrimePhysically Challenged Son Kidnapsmother;demands N20 Million Ransom. by Toyboyz(op): 9:52am On Feb 17, 2013
A physically–challenged barber, who abducted his mother, Mrs. Kate Emienor, in Benin City, Edo State and detained her for 10 days at a hideout in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, while demanding N20 million ransom to secure her freedom ,has been nabbed by the police.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, who confirmed the incident, yesterday, said, “It is true, boththe son and mother that was kidnapped are in our custody.”
Sunday Vanguard learnt that the barber, suspected tobe a hardened criminal, allegedly abducted her mother,February 5, in Benin City, where he operated a barbing salon, and whisked her to a hideout in Ogwashi-Uku.
He reportedly alertedhis elder brother, based overseas, that their mother waskidnapped and the abductors were demanding N20 million ransom to release her.
The ransom was later reduced to N10 million when his brother could not raise the N20 million. Meanwhile, unknown to the son, the policewere alerted about the purported kidnapand they put in placestrategies to track the abductors.
Sunday Vanguard gathered that the suspect might have brainwashed his mother into agreeing to be abducted in order to obtain money from her son living outside the country.
Aduba, who expressed concern about the involvement of familymembers and insiders in kidnapping, said, “The suspect who arranged the purported kidnap of his mother was busy holding meetings withother members of thefamily on how to release their mother, whereas, he was responsible for the abduction.”
The police boss disclosed that the suspect held a meeting with other members of the family 24 hours before he was arrested at about 4.00 pm on February 15, adding that no ransom was paid to rescue Mrs. Emienor.
His words, “The scourge is getting worrisome as kidnap cases are not abating with idle youths turning their energy negatively tothe detriment of the larger society”.
Recalling the case of a man who arranged the kidnap of a friend, he said, “Hard time awaits kidnappers in Delta State; they will be smoked out and made to face the full wrath of the law, including their sponsors, who always lurk around”.
According to Aduba, “Recently, a so-called human rights activist and lawyer was nabbed pants down trying to pervert the course of justice shamelessly in Warri.
“His game of blackmailing notwithstanding, let him prove his innocence in court, not before native doctors cum spiritualists.
“I want to assure Deltans that with their cooperation, there is no hiding space for sponsors of crime in the state; once they are caught, no compromise”.
A police source told Sunday Vanguard, last night, “It is likelythe suspect will be charged to court for the kidnap of his mother, but the mother will be used as a key witness since it was obvious she fell for the trap.”

After spending thirteen days with kidnappers, themember representing Esan Central in Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Victor Edoror, Saturday, regained his freedom. The lawmaker was abducted on 3 February, 2013 by armed men suspected to be kidnappers, after he attended a meeting at hisconstituency in Edo Central.
It was learnt that the suspected kidnappers requestto the family to pay ransom in dollars delayed his release. Edoror, who thanked God for his life, told journalists in Benin City that his abductors abandoned him at a village close to Abraka in Delta State, disclosing that he fed on eba without meat during his captivity. The lawmaker narrated: "I went to my constituency. As I was coming to Benin that Sunday, I was abducted by the kidnappers.
The abductors came in a Jeep and a car and took me and my driver. I was blindedfolded immediately. I don't know whereI was taken to . I was driven intheir own car while my driver was taken in my own car."They tied me with rope until today which is about 14 days I was blind folded. At the time they were taking me, they were about eight, fully armed. Ihad a licensed double barrel gun with me but what could I dowith it in that kind of situation?", he said.
He added: "I was humiliated, beaten, and kept in a cubicle. They said they had been monitoring me; they trailed me all the way from Irrua. They said they were sent to kill me but, because of what they sawin me, they decided to spare my life. "I fed once a day on miserable 'eba'. But all the same I needed to eat to stay alive. Initially they demanded N90 million, but they knew there was no way I could provide that money.
I pleaded with them and it got to a point where I was ready to die because my family is very poor and could not raise such money. "The money they demanded, all my family, put together, could not spend that money to feed in their entire lives. I think they (kidnappers)were tired and they just left me go. I was dropped around Abraka in Delta State.
I didn't know the place. I had tobeg a good Samaritan that took me to Abraka town where I chartered a taxi that droppedme at the legislative quarters."

PoliticsA/court To Hear Al-mustapha, Shofolahan Appeal On Death Sentence, April 29 by Toyboyz(op): 9:18am On Feb 16, 2013
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, yesterday, adjourned till April 29, to hear the appeal by former Chief Security Officerto late General Sanni Abacha, Major HamzaAl-Mustapha, and former Personal Assistant to late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola,Lateef Shofolahan, challenging the deathsentence handed them by a Lagos HighCourt.
The lower court on January 30, 2012, convicted them on a charge of Masterminding the murder of late Mrs Kudirat Abiola.
The appellate court, yesterday, adjourned for hearing, after counsel to the convicts applied for the regularization of their briefs of argument.
The convicts had applied for leave to file their brief of arguments, which they served on the respondent.
Al-Mustapha and Shofolahan, were arraigned in October 1999, on a four-count charge of“conspiracy and killing of Alhaja Abiola on June 4, 1996 on the Lagos/ Ibadan expressway.
The lower court found them guilty of the offence and convicted and sentenced them to death by hanging.
The appellants are contending that the death sentence handed by the lower court was unwarranted, unreasonable and a manifest miscarriage of justice, adding that the trial judge erred in law by arriving at the conclusion that they conspired to kill Alhaja Kudirat on June 4, 1996.
The appellants are further praying the court hear the appeal, set aside thejudgment, and discharge them of the charges of conspiracy and murder.
They faulted the judge in the treatment of the contradictory statements of Barnabas Jabila (akaSgt. Rogers) and Mohmamed Abdul, as well as the reliance on the testimony of Dr. Ore Falomo on the bullet extracted from Late Kudirat.

Foreign AffairsMan Burns Himself To Death At Job Centre by Toyboyz(op): 1:32am On Feb 16, 2013
A man who was declared ineligible forunemployment benefit has died after settinghimself on fire outside a job centre in western France.
Police in Nantes tried tostop the unnamed man, 43, but he managed to pass them, dousing himselfin petrol and setting himself alight. The police had beenalerted by messages he sent to the media announcing his plans to kill himself publicly.
The jobless number in France recentlyrose to levels not seen in 12 years. With more than three million people unemployed, the Socialist government has struggled to create new jobs in its first year in office.
Last month, a jobless man in the Spanish city of Malaga also died after setting himself alight. On Tuesday morning, the man in Nantes sent an email, declaring his intention to burn himself, which was laterpublished in a local newspaper, Presse-Ocean. He said he had worked enoughhours to qualify legally for benefit but had been refused.
Nearly three hours later, the man wrote again to say the centre was closed and he planned to return there with petrol, either on Wednesday or Thursday. Police mounted a watch outsidethe job centre on Wednesday morning after trying unsuccessfully to contact the man, an unnamed policeman told the paper.
“But this man arrived via an adjacent street,” the policeman said. “He was already in flames and out of sight of the police.”
Rescue services were unable to savethe man’s life. The state employment agency in Parisconfirmed the man had been registered at the centre in Nantes and said he had no longer been entitled to benefit. Local politicians reacted with horror to newsof the self-immolation,adding that only a formal inquest could perhaps establish the man’s true motives.
“The collectivereality of unemployment should not make us forgetthe everyday, individual distress of each unemployed person,” said Jacques Auxiette, chairman of thePays de la Loire regional council.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will make a number of changes with a Champions League match against Bayern Munich on the horizon, with Jack Wilshere likely to miss outafter suffering a dead legagainst Sunderland last weekend.
Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny are confirmed absentees alongside Kieran Gibbs, whilst Carl Jenkinson is suspended. Santi Cazorla and Theo Walcott are likely to be kept in reserve.
Manchester City loanee Karim Rekik could be in the travelling party and in-line for his Blackburn debut in north London, whilst David Bentley has also joined in time to feature.
Morten Gamst Pedersen and DJ Campbell are vyingfor a starting spot, but Michael Appleton has plenty of options at his disposal.
Oxlade-Chamberlain aware of Blackburn dangers
Arsenal winger Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain admits Blackburn Rovers must be approached with caution in the fifth round of the FA Cup this weekend.
The Gunners host Championship Rovers at the Emirates Stadium afterseeing off Brighton in the last round, and ‘the Ox’ believes concentration is the key to success for the Gunners against their lower-league opponents.
"I think that's the biggest danger in these games. As a professional you always try to remain 100 per cent focused, but there is a human element too, and sometimes you may lose concentration without even realising,” he told the official Arsenalprogramme .
"You have to try to maintain your normal levels, treat the opposition with respect, and I think we did that against Brighton in the last round.
“They played some good stuff, but we approached it correctly and to get through was a real show of character, especially when we saw what happened to some of the other big teams that weekend."
Despite the obvious favourites tag, Oxlade-Chamberlain knows upsets are always possible in the FA Cup, and that a lack of focus could lead to an unexpected exit.
But, with a piece of silverware getting ever closer for the Gunners, the England international believes both the fans and the manager deservea top performance.
"You never know what might happen. You alwaysget strange results and big upsets in the FA Cup especially. When a big club takes on a lower league side, anything can happen,” he added .
“If you switch off at all, and the opponents are upfor it, they will punish you. We have to give the type of performance that we owe to ourselves, thatthe fans deserve and that the manager deserves.
“If we are focused on doing that I'm sure we canget through to the next round."
Christianity EtcNo Hope For African Pope– Benedict’s Brother by Toyboyz(op): 7:16pm On Feb 15, 2013
Pope Benedict's elder brother, the Rev. Georg Ratzinger has given insight into why the coveted position of Catholic Pontiff may elude Africa as the Church begins the process of appointing a new pope. Much speculation has focused on whether Benedict's successor might come from Africa or Latin America, rather than Europe, where Roman Catholic congregations are shrinking.
The pope's brother, the Rev. Georg Ratzinger, speaking in Regensburg, Germany, said heexpected to see a pope chosen from outside Europe one day but not just yet.
"I'm certain a pope will come from the new continents but whether it will be now, I have my doubts," he said.
"In Europe, we have many very able people, and the Africans are still not so well known and maybe do not havethe experience yet."
Among those considered frontrunners for the role are Cardinal Angelo Scola, archbishop of Milan; Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet, who heads the Vatican's office of bishops; Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, an Argentinian, Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana and Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria.
Whoever gets the nod, the selection of a new pontiff is expected to go smoothly.
"We're not going to have a problem of two competing popes. If Pope Benedict still wanted to have influence, he wouldn't have stepped down," said senior Vatican communications adviser Greg Burke. While not quite unprecedented, Benedict's resignation is certainly historic.
The last pope to step down before his death was Gregory XII, who in 1415 quit to end a civil war within the church in which more than one man claimed to be pope.

SportsLeverkusen Eye Nigeria's Mba by Toyboyz(op): 1:11am On Feb 15, 2013
MTNFootball.comcan exclusively reveal that Sunday Mba, whose goal sunkCote d'Ivoire in the quarter final match on Sunday, is wanted by top German club Bayer Leverkusen.
A top agent who is part of the deal disclosed that "Bayer Leverkusen are interested in Sunday Mba. I will give you an update within a day or so."
Incidentally, the agent had worked out a deal for the same player to join Elche of Spain in 2008.
"He passed the trials, he was offered a deal but Rangers didnot allow it happen because Elche could not meet the Enugu team's valuation of the player," disclosed the agent.
Former Nigeria U-17 international Mba has trained with former club Enugu Rangers in the close season, but his current club Warri Wolves have demanded for a little fortune from Rangers.
The 24-year-old Mba started his second game at the AFCONand showed class by scoring a fantastic individual goal after he got past three of his markers before he fired home. His display was again proof that there is a lot of untappedand unheralded talent in the Nigeria Premier League.
Coach Stephen Keshi sang thepraise of the unlikely match winner. “I thank Sunday for scoring the winner. It was a fantastic goal. May be I will go and give him a kiss to say thank you for scoring such a fantastic goal to win the match,” an over-the-moon Keshi said after the game. Kenneth Omeruo Declines Association of Nigerian Prostitutes Offer
Meanwhile, ADO Den Haag youngster Kenneth Omeruo has reacted to statements credited to the Association of Nigerian Prostitutes’ national secretary Jessica Elvis, who has promised Nigerians one week of free sex if the Super Eagles win Sunday’s Afcon final against Burkina Faso.
Omroepwest.nl with reference to the Radio Program Studio HaagseBluf quoted Omeruo as saying: ”The coach showed usan article about it. He told us that this is waiting for us when we win the Africa Cup. No sex for me. This is football.”
Kenneth Omeruo, still a teenager, has suited up five times for the Super Eagles at the ongoing African Cup of Nations. He has not disappointed and there is speculation that the on-loan defender could be recalled to Chelsea immediately after the tournament in South Africa.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Five Premier League Legends To Come To The Rescue by Toyboyz(op): 12:52am On Feb 15, 2013
Thierry Henry voicing his desire to go back to Arsenal again one day to work for them again got me thinking – which legends would fans of top Premier League clubs like to see return?
Gunners supporters weredelighted when their record goalscorer returned on loan in January of last season for a brief loan spell.
Scoring the winning goal in an FA Cup replay against Leeds United just a few minutes after coming on served to reinforce his status as one of the greatest players ever to have worn an Arsenal shirt.
There are few things like the return of an idol, though it doesn’t always turn out brilliantly as theycan often come back a shadow of themselves.
Which of the current greats of your club would you like to see go back toyour club?
It’s not necessarily to come back as a coach because some players, like Henry, could return and still contribute something on the pitch.
Though the return of a club legend could be about morale boosting behind the scenes or a bitof extra nous on the training pitch.
So, Thierry Henry inspired me to have a think and come up with one club great some of the top Premier League sides would love to welcome back.

Chelsea – Didier Drogba
The Ivory Coast captain only left in the summer and the memories of him leading Chelsea to their first ever Champions League victory are still fresh in the mind.
A Drogba reunion would bring some good feeling back to Stamford Bridge at the very least and, let’s be honest, Rafa Benitez needs as much of that as he can get.
Galatasaray have landed the powerful striker for their Champions League campaign and Blues fans will be casting envious eye over to Turkey whenhe makes his bow.

Manchester United – Edwin van der Sar
David de Gea was brilliantin the 1-1 draw against Real Madrid this week but it is safe to say he has not exactly been consistent since his switch from Atletico Madrid.
So what better man to return and lend a helping hand than the great Van der Sar? Neither De Gea or Anders Lindegaard arethe most experienced ‘keepers, so the bit Dutchman’s advice could go some way in helping them settle.
Van der Sar left some pretty big boots, and gloves, to fill when he decided to retire, so someguidance behind the scenes for his young replacement is hardly going to hurt.

Arsenal – Dennis Bergkamp
Ok, the whole idea was sparked by Thierry Henry’s admission but the‘Invincibles’ aren’t long gone form the game and there are other members that could bring something.
Bergkamp is currently assistant manager at Ajax and is doing a fine job next to old Holland teammate Frank de Boer, but he could be doing thatjob for the Gunners.
‘The Iceman’ would bring the knowledge of winning and the consistency needed to produce excellence every week. Arsenal are often criticised for lacking leaders and Bergkamp’s returning would give thema classy one behind the scenes.

Tottenham Hotspur – Ledley King
Injury cruelly affected King’s Spurs career, stopping him from realise the potential he had to become one of the world’sbest defenders.
When he finally decided toretire he was supposedly taking on a role as club ambassador but his true worth to the White Hart Lane club is on the training pitch.
King’s anticipation and reading of the game was exemplary and Spurs fans would certainly be happier in the knowledge that the former skipper ishelping out on the bench and the training ground.

Manchester City – Georgi Kinkladze
Back in the days when thePremier League was young and foreign stars were relatively rare, Maine Road welcomed a star that shone as bright as any.
Georgi from Georgia was asensation when he first arrived at Manchester City and fans urged him togo on a trademark mazy run whenever he picked up the ball.
Although he doesn’t havethe coaching experience to help on the training ground, Kinkladze’s presence would delight Citizens fans and some good feeling wouldn’t go amiss at the Etihad Stadium.

Which ex-stars do you think would help raise the spirits or performance at your club? Leave a comment below to letus know…
