Christianity EtcRe: Where And What Is Heaven? by tpaine(op): 11:40am On Mar 05, 2008
dafidixone:
A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said, 'Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.'

The Lord led the holy man to two doors.

He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water.

The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful. But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.

The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.

The Lord said, 'You have seen Hell.'

They went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, 'I don't understand.'

It is simple,' said the Lord.
'It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves.'

When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you, not of himself.

Remember sharing your spoon with others brings "heaven on earth".

grin
Good anecdote. So there is no other heaven beyond this "heaven on earth"?
Christianity EtcWhere And What Is Heaven? by tpaine(op): 11:02am On Mar 05, 2008
According to Kenneth Copeland, heaven is a planet. If this is so, then it should in theory be detectable with modern scientific instruments. Just as NASA is investing a great deal of resources searching for extraterrestrial life and earth-like planets, do you think they should also be searching for heaven?

Some of the doctrine of Kenneth Copeland can be found here;http://www.ondoctrine.com/10copela.htm
Christianity EtcRe: Are Fatwa Killings Justifiable? by tpaine: 11:33pm On Mar 04, 2008
We can't really discuss this vile and reprehensible practice without incurring the wrath of the fatwa-issuers, which is then followed by a ban and deletion of threads. Such was the case with therationa and mockfu.
Christianity EtcRe: Benny Hinn: Man Of God Or Crook? by tpaine: 10:45pm On Mar 04, 2008
Hinn disgusts me. This is a man who claims to have raised someone from the dead. Upon being asked to produce evidence he fled from the interview. I can categorically say he is a sham and an exploiter of people.
Faith is not believe in what is impossible. It also not a belief without proof. Please can you give me instances where placebo effect has worked and the relevant journal citations for it.
As a scientist, how would you go about validating a miraculous claims? Would you use scientific methods if investigations?
Christianity EtcRe: Biblical Armageddon Or Solar Engulfment by tpaine: 7:10pm On Mar 04, 2008
No, we certainly should not believe everything anyone says. Always treat any claims or assertions with skepticism but apply reasoned objective analysis to evaluate the claims. Would the bible pass such an analysis?
Christianity EtcRe: Good Friday Miracle Night With Pastor Chris by tpaine: 5:31pm On Mar 02, 2008
was any truly scientifically attested miracle been reported yet?
Christianity EtcWhat Are Miracles? by tpaine(op): 4:26pm On Mar 02, 2008
What are miracles? I am informed by my Christian neighbours that miracles are a routine occurence in the Christian churches they attend. But when I asked her how she knew these were directly God's interventions her was very inarticulate and that she just had to believe that it was God's work, and that God works in mysterious ways. I told her of the incident reported in the link http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,241297,00.html. and warned her about claims for miracles that are not attested to by objectiive scientific means. So What really are miracles? Are they a material change in contravention of nature or are they spiritual change?
Christianity EtcRe: Jesus's Doctrine Of Passive Non-resistance To Evil by tpaine: 12:28pm On Mar 02, 2008
because no matter what u say or prove,he will never stop believing that ''he is a descendant of monkey or gorillaz''
So why wasting my time? i'v got important things to do rather than to waste time here. .
But this thread is not about ''he is a descendant of monkey or gorillaz'' ie evolution. It is about Jesus's view on self-defense, a far cry from evolution - so I think it deserve a serious rebuttal.

Incidentally, I do not think therationa's idea of evolution is ''he is a descendant of monkey or gorillaz''. If I remember my biology correctly, I think evolution simply says humans and apes and primates have a common ancestor; not that humans are descended from apes. - a major difference.
Christianity EtcRe: Jesus's Doctrine Of Passive Non-resistance To Evil by tpaine: 11:20am On Mar 02, 2008
Interestingly, there's not been a single rebauttal of therationa's arguments on this thread. Wonder why!
Definitely. Let me watch all the clips.
j-girl, therationa asked if you post you views of the videos. Have you had time to watch them all yet? Can we know what you make of them?
Christianity EtcRe: Therationa, Who Created You, God Or By Evolution. by tpaine: 11:15pm On Mar 01, 2008
JayFK,

I agree. Evolution is the backbone of all modern biology and the cornerstone of the next-generation therapies. We ignore it at our peril.

You could at least give your views on male and/of female circumcisions. Not all posts have to be direct why/what/how type questions.
