In mountainous terrains old civilizations settled in valleys. The mountain sides provide natural shield of defense against enemy attack. Similarly in flatlands, in ancient times, people settled on hilltops to get advantage against enemy attack.

nduchucks:

Come o, are we discussing the Songhai empire ni, abi we are talking of modern day Nigeria? Which natural fort of defense are you talking about? Do you realize that we no longer need to protect our cities with walls like those which protected Zazzau and that our dear nation is called Nigeria?

actually, he's right.

many towns and villages took refuge in hilly areas for protection from slave raiders, or after their towns were raided.

I would love to hear what ideas you have to help us bring order into our politics, particularly as we head into 2015 political turf battles.

well, obviously, number one is choose your battles and plan purposefully, not as one beating the air.

keeping in mind the politician is supposed to be a servant of the people, and as such, the concept of utilitarianism should supersede personal interests and ambitions.

DuduNegro:
As I said in last post, the North is open to political influence. A dichotomy of power exist in the North. Amongst the two flag bearers of the Northern caucus the Fulani is more dynamic and therefore will represent one leg of the two left to complete the three-legged political tripod we need to reinstate order into the chaotic government.

This will mean the death of Hausa politics in Nigeria! Before I continue, I'd like to weigh the significant advantage to the North if the Hausa/Fulani label is not killed.

1. A displacement is created in the South everytime there is reference to Hausa/Fulani. This displacement gives an apparition of a people more numbered in population than is the fact. The combination seem to suggest that we are dealing with two different or distinct ethnic people when in actuality they are both represented as a united political front. Therefore, it matters not what their different ethnic or cultural interests is, politically they are homogeneous and must thus be properly tagged as ONE on all issues political!

2. This displacement also dilutes the Southern political representation and quota at the centre of government, shortchanging the South in a 2:1 ratio in favor of the so called Hausa/Fulani banner.

It is worth emphasizing again that there are only two political fronts in the North, Fulani and Kanuri, with the former more dominant.

Next I will talk about the Middle Niger and Middle Benue states and their orientation with the North.

. . . more to come.

i think people generally underrate the Hausa.

VillageBoi:

Actually of all the films he asked about 'Her' beats every single one of them by miles!

Jayboy124:
Her is actually the best film in that list by far. But are not the kinda films we are used to in Nigeria.

I'll rate Her 7/10.

XketchDesigns:

I believe the acting will be intense and amazing but charlie, I don't just buy the idea of dating computer! It just plain silly and I can't enjoy a movie that I believe is silly.

VillageBoi:

Actually the idea is pretty realistic considering the age we live in.

The film 'Her' is not a weird concept at all and is quite a possibility in the future.

Anyway shaa, you don't like the idea and that is no big deal... each to their own. But it is a very good film.

I just watched Her, and I'll give it a 7/10, or 3.5 stars.

I could rate it 8/10 or 4 stars, but its one of those movies you have to watch multiple times in order to catch things you missed before.

i will have to see the film again because i definitely did not get much of what went on there.

for example, I'm yet to understand the reason for the snow- why the weather was snowy much of the time, whenever he's sad.. Also, i dont quite get the little saucy hologram in the game and why samantha did not simply transpose herself as a hologram.

Things I noticed about the movie:

- 9/11 references. Samantha contacted 8,316 others and fell in love with 641 of them. Adding the figures gives 18 and 11 respectively, between 2 people. 18/2=9. Theodore's initials are TT (twin towers). His address includes Tower 7.

- it opens with the light source behind theodore and closes with the light coming from in front of him (the sunrise).

-it ends with him writing a letter to his wife, which seems to be something he'd never done in spite of being a professional letter composer.

-it emphasizes the aloneness or alienation from people around him, everybody is busy chatting with their OSes and computers.

etc etc.

I think the southwest needs a university of health sciences , there are none presently that I know of.

Even the north is building a university for women which will include that ( women's medical university).

The swstern states really need to sit up and utilize productive planning because other parts of nigeria are not waiting for anyone before doing their own and neither are they " looking face".

Fulaman198:

You just contradicted what you said by linking Fulani people in the desert although these look like Rimaïbe

My point of reference was fulanis from nigeria. I associate them more with the sahel, not the desert which is considered tuareg territory.

In addition, the people in the picture I posted, are malian fulani

https://www.flickr.com/photos/by-chris-g/4958238192/

However, you are right about the desert environment- the wodaabe and malian fula do seem to live in the desert however I don't know if they raise livestock.

Just wondering about the grazing question- how do the cows graze?

they are not nigerian i guess, because living in the desert wouldnt be possible when raising livestock.
