FamilyRe: Ladies Who Hold On To Their Father's Surname In Marriage by tpia5: 4:50am On Aug 06, 2013
Shinatu: Going through this thread some thoughts come to my mind.

In this part of the world (that's the only sector of the globe I know very well)

Must a man exercise his 'authority' before he becomes a man?
Must there be a woman to 'control' or lord things over before a man feels like a man?

Why cant a man just be a man and be satisfied with and enjoy being a man without having to control a memeber of the 'weaker sex' to be a man?
because such people do not know what being a man, means.

CultureRe: Traditional Yoruba Occupations by tpia5: 10:24pm On Aug 05, 2013
yorubas say nse l'aye nyi.

meaning as the world turns, we turn with it.

in any case, i'm not aware informed people look down on traditional occupations [provided they add substance to society]. Only ignorant people do that.

chaircover: There are way way way toooooooo many broken marriages all over the place and a lot of it is down to very faulty foundations.

I still dont know why we are blaming the poster. He is being honest enough to himself to know deep down that he cannot deal with a situation where his wife will bear another name apart from his. We are all different and have different desires. I wouldnt marry a man who smokes, but some women dont mind. We all have a right to choose what we feel comfortable with

Would we rather that he kept this to himself, told the woman that she was allowed to keep her name, married her and from the day he put the ring on her finger, he insisted that she changed it and proceeded to make her life miserable until she changes it?

What he is insisting on may seem odd, but he is the one who is going to live with it & so its his choice at the end of the day. Each to their own I'd say.
nobody cares if the poster's wives bear his name, or whether he wants his wives to bear his name.

He is the one who needs to stop attacking and criticizing others over what doesnt concern him.

same applies to any amebo who wants to take up the matter.

nobody owes anybody any explanation for their personal decisions.

people should go and drop their opinions on this thread if they need something to do:

Nosu: I am a man that don't take rubbish and I stand my ground wen I need to and it didn't take an hour b4 I trash out the issue . It only bothers me that some ladies hold dat idealogy
other ladies besides your unfortunate wives, are not your concern!

I really dont care who the lady is or were she is coming from, if she isn't ready to drop her surname, she should remain on her own, she isnt ready for a marriage.
tell that to the desperadoes hooking up with you, i think this should be clear by now.

Stop trying to explain away indiscipline.

What exactly justifies hanging clothes on highways?
PoliticsRe: Lagosians React To Ban On Clothes Spreading by tpia5: 12:23pm On Aug 05, 2013
How do you think developed countries got their status?

Even south africa which majority of you want to run to at every opportunity, did they just get that way overnight?

dougivilla: What exactly does Fashola want? A better lagos? Then he should start by ensuring that all State roads in Lagos are in good condition, Omo-niles stop harrassing those trying to build houses, Agberos stop terrorising road users, the orile to Badagry road that has taken his team almost 2 terms of 4 years to avhieve 30% success is handled with the speed with which his traffic laws were implimented. He can then proceed to ensure steady power in Lagos, security of life and properties, food security, youth employment etc. Thats when beautification will make sense; afterall what does a beautiful lagos mean to a jobless, hungry and frustrated lagosian?
Why stay in lagos if you're jobless, frustrated and hungry?

And then you take offence when folks point this out?

As per the rest of your post, i saw a write up which said lagos was originally designed with amenities for 100,000 people, but the current number of people residing in lagos is now 14 million.

Do you want to analyze that?

londoner: Even in the Uk and here is Australia, people hang clothes outside to dry. Its usually at the back, as government housing an developers usually provide a small outdoor patio or garden. Some people do have that space at the front of the house and it is visible to the passer by.

I agree, its not nice to see, but maybe they could all use tumble dryers if they had constant electricity.

I actually find that civil servant housing in Nigeria has some of the worst for display of clothing outside.

It does look ugly, but give people an option, at least.

Which option are you looking for, do houses not have backyards?

The picture you posted does not look like a front yard, and even if it is, does not seem to be facing a highway or on a major road.

We do not have to wait until people start snapping unsavoury photos before doing the right thing.

When you curse yourself, you remain cursed.

And stop bringing the bible into your personal problems!

Did you not see a bible before coming here to rant?
