^^good points.

however, the ife bronzes have to be grouped separately from later works because the style is very unique and different.

isnt esie in kwara or niger state? huh

lakal:
True, but I don't think that it can be that neatly divided. In most of Yoruba history, all of these materials were used concurrently. What is true is that styles did change over time.
are you sure about the bolded.

it's possible i guess- the terracottas and bronzes seem to be from the same general period but the stone works predate them, i believe.

there's also a mention of big lumps of iron ore scattered around ife at various locations- probably the forges i'm guessing.

they werent considered important by early archaeologists because the function wasnt known and they werent sculpted or cast into any specific form.

a nigerian man who spends time thinking about how no nigerian woman will get him, isnt husband material to begin with, imo? huh

just my opinion. undecided He could make a good partner for someone else perhaps, from another culture.

but there are too many weirdos and psychos out there these days to ignore this obvious sign of somebody with ego problems and grandiose delusions.

i wonder what the 123 studded nails stand for.

i'd like to hazard a wild guess and hypothesize they could be indicating different stops along a journey?

no one knows for sure though.

opa oranyan again.

i think the different artworks can be divided into different periods of ife art.

there are stone sculptures.

bronze figures

terracotta works.

wood [modern] art is most commonly associated with current obas, secret societies, and perhaps some basic everyday uses like doors and stools, for example.

lastly we have cloth, which is also more modern. Sometimes decorated with beads to indicate rotalty or wealth.

Also, why is the museum not explaining the functions and symbolic representation of each of the article in the outfit?
they might not know.

Example: the horn in the left hand, what does it stand for?
i think that's the opa ase- typically used to represent power and also used for healing illnesses.

not sure however.

The disks on the crown what do they mean?  There are three different types of disks and in different configuration, what do these all mean?
not sure but i suspect it might have something to do with the sea.

anyway @ issue being discussed

i didnt check the picture but it could be the same one making the rounds with different titles.

some say the father did it, others claim it was the boyfriend.

not sure there's a need to keep on circulating the photo but whatever.

personally, i think anyone trying to physically injure an object of his/her affection, must be psychotic and needs help.

it's not normal.

Wow, emmatok took the words right out of my mouth in one of his posts.

I have never seen the level of d.umbness exotik is displaying here, in a bini man.

I seriously doubt exotik is bini because if he is, then this situation is quite critical

i dont know where he's actually from from but wahala dey wherever the place is.

Nigerian males overseas are turning into something else, for real.

Many are now downlow or even outrightly g.ay while others are simply terribly irresponsible. Scamming is the order of the day, drugs, 419, every other thing. They just see no reason or maybe are unable to not do these things.

Its like something is after them.

I pray they find Jesus sha.

Was the lady a corper or what took her there.

Islam › Re: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by tpia5: 11:53am On Nov 08, 2011
As per deols and her friend

the picture comes to mind of the "friend" busy advising another "friend" on relationship or other matters- dont date this, dont do that- and at the end of the day, the "adviser" goes behind the "advisee's" back to hook herself or another friend up with the very guy she was castigating.

You will learn na!!!!!

Just a general example, not saying anyone is in a relationship here.
Islam › Re: Muslim Singles, Let Us Have A Talk by tpia5: 11:49am On Nov 08, 2011
Imo, real love wouldnt desire to hurt the object of affection. That kind of dangerous posessiveness is bordering on something else.

It would be very hurtful no doubt to love someone who doesnt love you back, but i think a genuine love would still seek the other party's happiness nonetheless.

Just my opinion which isnt set in stone. But its quite possible to think you love someone and given time you find you can still love someone else. Happens a lot with teenagers.
