This classic style of nineteenth century Yoruba aso oke cloth involved the alternation of a simple warp striped strip with a second design in which supplementary weft float motifs are laid out on a fine blue and white checked background. In an early example such as this the magenta silk thread alaari from the trans-Saharan caravan trade is combined with local hand spun indigo dyed cotton. In some cases, as here, there is one different warp striped design to add variety. Although the supplementary weft float motifs are largely based on the Koranic board shape (a wooden rectangle with an arrow head at the top, used by boys at Islamic schools as a writing board) in early examples as here the weaver plays around with variations on the shape.
this style is well known i believe.

my grandma had something similar.

i wouldn't want to get certain things from pple for my first new baby
not an ideal situation no doubt, but sometimes things are tight.

new is always the best option, i agree.

you also have those folding cribs [not sure how much they cost in nigeria] which i remember my mum used for the younger ones:

i dont think the babies stay in them much however- not sure why.

this type, in a simpler design:

the poster [or anyone else] can improvise, if they like. Its really up to them.

wicker cots like these arent as expensive as regular wooden ones for example:

not fancy, but serves the purpose. You just have to make sure the cot meets basic safety standards- no loose spaces and all pillows/mattresses/blankets should fit snugly.

The idea of asking for a cot is strange no doubt in the nigerian setting, but i do know of forums or websites where people list items they're giving out for free to whoever wants them. Used to be a member but the traffic was just too much and taking up all my bandwidth.

Stone statue of the deity Idena (the gatekeeper). Has iron nails in its coiffure and elaborately tied sash, circa 11-12th Century.
this definitely looks egyptian.

starting to wonder if there's a sudanese link at some point.
