Yoruba - Blema Koli Glass. Date unknown. Strands of early mixed dichroic drawn glass beads from Nigeria https://img7.imageshack.us/img7/6567/atb61408to12.jpg |
https://img831.imageshack.us/img831/2702/yoruba08.jpg It is apparent that there are two generations of Yoruba powder glass beads. The later group, for which evidence was found in Nigeria, is of coarser powder, showing little evidence of finishing. The earlier group, specimens of which Jamey Allen found in the British Museum, is much higher quality. In the above picture, the long yellow bead, the greenish one below it, the green and coral on either side of it, the pair of light blues, the fat blue to the lower left, and two or three of the navy blues are all part of this earlier group. These earlier powder glass beads, as were the beads in the British Museum, made of crushed old beads, not bottle glass. The difference in density is sensible to the touch, with the older beads noticeably heavier. Furthermore, the texture of the older models is much finer and they show evidence of lapidary finishing.segi beads from ife. date unknown. https://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9499/yoruba10.jpg The wealth of Ife was due to a bead making tradition. They exported their glass beads to the north of Africa and made this area very prosperous," she said.http://www.voanews.com/english/news/africa/Nigerian-Ife-Art-on-Display-in-Houston-106860644.html |
kori stone [or quartz] from oyo https://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1649/yoruba04.jpg glass bead making went extinct in yorubaland sometime since the 19th or early 20th century. Richard Lander, the Cornish explorer, acquired something very much like this at Old Oyo in 1830, which was said to have come from "Iffie" (Ife)http://www.beadbabe.com/archives/html/yoruba_glass_beads_by_kwesi_am.html the consensus is that the Yoruba reworked imported glasses exclusively. Legend has it that these beads were first made by Olokun, a female deity and member of the Yoruba founding family. |
english teachers are desperately needed in nigeria too. nl alone is enough evidence of that. |
ogbonoeba:not routinely. not sure why however- you might have to look into that. I've heard of some Nigerians coming to the states for pain management. I wonder if the market is large enough for pain management.also not sure. nigerians typically endure pain ie have a higher tolerance for pain, though i could be wrong. the rich ones however might be different. |
^^^^^^^^ HEAR!!!!!!! HEAR!!!!!!!!!!! also the Pagan Sumerians had a remote concept of evolution. this was discussed in a thread in the religious section before. but the christians plagarised it and cut off the evolution bits, leaving only the parts that suited their beliefs. this is because christians cant stand the Fact of animals being equals to humands, a fact, we Pagans new and respected.
hey, shut up.what concerns you with yoruba matter. kindly be on your way plz. |
I think i agree, but it should only be a temporary ie time limited measure while they search for job placement. This would discourage them from staying permanently in that situation. |
Da doctor isnt your wife yoruba? ![]() She's ugly with a big yansh? |
Not sure i understand the op's post but in traditional muslim yoruba culture, the imams usually give the baby one or more of its names. I also noticed these days that a lot of names are outside the traditional ones which are closer to koran. Some of them sound more like the modern arabic ones which cant be easily figured out or placed anywhere. I could be wrong however. Who is trying to give the baby a strange name here- is it the grandfather or the cleric. |
