The cooked product is typically darker than most other vegetables, which is why it's strange to Yoruba cooking because most of our vegetables tend to be light (bitter leaf is an exception). It also doesn't have the smoother texture Yorubas prefer in their cooking. It's more similar to cassava leaf.

Efo Igbo means the vegetable of the Igbos.

One Yoruba guy pronounced pumpkin leaf as ugwu. I corrected him telling its ugu not ugwu. This fool asked me if I had any right to teach him Yoruba. I told its an Igbo word not Yoruba but he end by saying ugwu is the Yoruba name while ugu is the Igbo name. This people are petty, arrogant, so sectional, rigid and not open to see the world in another perspective.

If an older man didn't rebuke him he would be among those rewriting history telling those who care to listen that pumpkin leaf is called ugwun in Yoruba before Igbo's corrupted it.

Yea I noticed quite many Yorubas pronounce and spell Ugu as 'Ugwu' which is an aberration. Second, going by the 'Ugwu' pronunciation, the double consonant 'gw' does not exist in Yoruba language/alphabet and is second evidence that it is a borrowed word.

The right spelling is 'ugu' with rising and mid tones.
