FamilyRe: Is A Woman Suppose To Claim The State Of Origin Of Her Husband? by tpiar:
Phema:
Yes. A woman adopts the husband's state of origin, Local government area and town in Nigeria. I don't know for other countries.
no she doesnt.

if the man was looking for who should adopt all you mentioned, he wouldnt have bothered marrying another locality to begin with.

what the woman can do imo is learn about his culture [if different from hers], and integrate it into their relationship, so the kids dont get confused, unless the couple have agreed to raise them matrilineally or with a third culture such as a western one, or something totally different from either of their cultures.

Request a Social Security number card as part of your Department of State immigrant visa application.

The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will share your information with us.

List your correct address and zip code. We will mail your card to the address you give.

Do you see address verification by three separate state departments there? huh

Another false info.
can you prove it's fake?
FamilyRe: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by tpiar: 7:01pm On Jan 24, 2016
there is absolutely no reason why anyone would need to obtain a fake marriage certificate or whatever unless the person is a terrorist being assisted to do so.

Getting a valid certificate is not hard, likewise if you are going to the trouble of applying for entry based on marriage, there is no point looking for a fake certificate when its the same amount of trouble you go to get a real one. Doing a real one is actually easier than obtaining a fake.

and, getting the fake certificate past US immigration protocols, would definitely have to be a job involving more than two people.

And what makes you think the guy is not with the actual marriage certificate which he presented to the US embassy before he was issued the visa

And the op probably gave an edited version of what went down btw her and the estranged husband. Story is not necessarily fake.
I think everywhere in the world, you file an intent to marry before you actually marry, which is the piece of paper shown in the op.
FamilyRe: Nigerian Marriage, Fake Or Real? by tpiar: 6:44pm On Jan 24, 2016
s/he is probably just trying to find out if a marriage contracted in the 80s can still be traced, vis a vis the person who said his dad cant remember who he married to get his papers.

blackmail things.
CultureRe: The 'gods' Of Yoruba Land: An Hypothesis Study by tpiar: 6:39pm On Jan 24, 2016
why are you focusing on Yorubaland?

here are other rivers in Nigeria: Kaduna river, Benue river, Imo river, why is your "study" not including them?

I mentioned Zambezi, but you prefer to stay away from that.

its very possible that he gave a fake one. and also its possible he has someone in the court office that can verify his so called "marriage" when the embassy calls. In that Nigeria, there is nothing impossible again i tell you..
are you the op?

You are 100% correct. As a matter of fact, immigration visa based on marriage is on conditional statues. Meaning you must remain married for the period of condition or you risk deportation. About 3 years period.
the write up is just full of lies.

kITATITA:
What I see is marriage license and not marriage certificate. The license is like a permit for you to marry. When you file your papers for marriage, it is published for specified period. If within the period, there are no objections, you'll be given license to marry. It's only after marriage that you'll be issued with a certificate. .
he or she knows all this but just wants to spread some misinformation on nairaland.

You need to be willing to listen to differing opinions. That is the key to advancement. I'm not saying all rivers in Africa were named after people. My hypothesis is on the ones in Yoruba land, for now. My question to you however is that why is it that some of the rivers also have correlating 'gods' or 'orisas' named likewise? Many examples are not far fetched.
check the previous responses for your answer, stop insisting on your wrong hypotheses.

are you saying rivers in Africa are not part of your "study"?

and btw, who is river Niger named after?

LAjibade:
Hello everyone. I have a question and was hoping you could shed me some light in a matter. I am in America. I went to Nigeria in 2011 and married my husband. I petition for him in 2012 and he arrived to America in 2013. Three months later he left. He is here in America, just not with me. He just left once he received his social security number, his permanent visa and a job in two months of being here. I haven't heard from him nor seen him again. I been wondering for a long time if my marriage to him is valid. In the marriage license it says it expired in 2013. I don't understand that.

Was our marriage set up or arranged to be temporary? I don't really understand Nigerian law or customs concerning marriage. (I am not Nigerian) I know my husband was rushing me to get him here before that expiration date. I am very confused. I also went to the office of public records here in America and they couldn't find any marital records of me and my husband, nothing. On the back of my marriage license issued in Nigeria, there is a website of marriage records, I entered my name and his name and didn't find anything. It just says no records found. Am I married to him or was it all fake? Can you please help me find out? I'd appreciate it. Even if it was all a scam, I still have Nigeria in my heart and will never have anything against Nigeria and Nigerians. Just my husband. Thank you in advance.
so what did you use to apply for his visa? huh

and you also posted someone's name on a public forum, in connection with this story.
