Like I said, it's a general issue with mixed kids with white moms, I don't even think they are aware of the behaviour. That's why there is a running joke that you can tell the mixed kids with black moms, from the ones with white moms. Very different perspectives

She was raised by her white mother, and more often than not, kids with white mothers tend to deny, or not acknowledge their black side, especially because the black fathers do not particularly instill the whole idea of black pride in them.

So, it is not far-fetched, that Maria would look upon her black side with scorn

Typically, Jackie's type are snobbish in real life. Unless maybe they have history with you. Only stronghold Micahel may have is of they've had sex though.
