goatgoat093: Killing of seven suya sellers in Imo, attempt to provoke ethnic clashes – Hausa community leader.
The deputy coordinator of the Hausa community in Imo State, Sulaiman Ibrahim Sulaiman, otherwise known as Garkwa Hausa (Shield of Hausa community), speaks to CHIDIEBUBE OKEOMA about the killing of seven suya sellers in the state by some gunmen
As coordinator of Hausa traders in Imo State, what can you say about the recent killing of seven suya sellers in two days by gunmen?
I am not the head of the Hausa community in Imo State; I am the second in command. The killings are highly regrettable but we can’t question God. Though it is very disturbing and provocative, we have submitted to the will of the Almighty God. We believe that God gives and He takes. We can only mourn as human beings, there is nothing we can do to bring the victims back to life.
Who informed you about the killings?
It was the Imo State Commissioner of Police who informed me and the Hausa community in Imo State about the killings of our brothers in Umuaka and Orlu. The killings were painful because the victims left very young families. They never bargained for it because they were selling suya when the gunmen struck and killed them.
Why do you think the gunmen would target suya sellers for killing?
Their killings were politically-motivated. It had nothing to with the Indigenous People of Biafra or the Eastern Security Network. Aggrieved politicians, who are not happy with the transformations going on in Imo State, masterminded the killings. They want to make Imo State ungovernable for distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, but by the grace of God, they will never succeed.
So, you think the killing of the seven suya sellers is part of the unrest currently rocking Imo State?
Yes, it is part of the crisis happening in the state. As I said earlier, the gunmen killed our people to incite northerners to start attacking the Igbo living in the North. The killers are trying to make it look like it was IPOB that masterminded the killings, but it was not IPOB; the killings had a political undertone. The killers were sponsored by those who wish the Imo State Government bad.
An aide to the state governor has earlier said the killing of the suya sellers might be politically-motivated. Is your position based on what he said?
I totally agree with him. The killing of our brothers was politically-motivated. It was designed in such a way to encourage ethnic war but we have found out that it was not IPOB that killed them. Imo people are peace-loving people. Many of us were born here and our generations have lived in Imo State for over 150 years. How can we have problem with those who give us their daughters in marriage; those whose breast milk many of us suckled? Imo people don’t have any problem with the Hausa community in Imo State. The killings were politically-motivated.
Were the killings reported to the police and are any efforts being made to track down the killers and bring them to justice?
Yes, the killings were reported to the police. As I told you, it was the Imo State Commissioner of Police that informed me and the Hausa community here about the killings. And, of course, efforts are being made to make sure that their killers are arrested and brought to justice.
How are the families of the deceased dealing with their losses?
Their families are devastated because they never bargained for what happened. Moreover, the victims left behind very young families. The slain suya sellers were the breadwinners of their families, so, their killing is, indeed, a big blow to their families. As a community, we are telling their families that they are not alone in this moment of loss. We share their grief.

Are the fellow Hausa traders in Imo doing anything to support the families of the slain suya sellers?
Yes, we are doing what we can to support the grieving families. We are supporting them in the ways we can. In the spirit of ‘be your brother’s keeper,’ we are assisting them to overcome these difficult times.
Have the slain suya sellers been buried?
They have been buried. They were buried in line with the dictates of the Islamic region and doctrines.
Were they buried in Imo or taken back to the North?
They were buried here in Imo State. Their killings were not good but we have submitted to the will of the Almighty God.
Do you support the call for state police as a lasting solution to these incessant attacks? Which state police? We are fine with this centralised police command. State police will be abused and it will divide Nigeria the more. If you establish state police now, every state will only be defending their indigenes, thereby creating more tribal and religious problems. We are fine with this centralised police formation.
Many are blaming the rising insecurity in the South-East on President Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged marginalisation of the region. What is your view on this?
Which marginalisation? The Hausa are the most accommodating people in Nigeria. How many Igbo people were involved when Goodluck Jonathan was President and how many Hausa people were accommodated? How many Yoruba people were in charge when Obasanjo was President and how many Hausa people did you you see around?

Omoslim26: Every sensible human being without being sentimental will know dat the major problem here is not the message but the messenger, the messenger has too much bad characters and personality dat one can consider anti-Igbo. But the message he has been passing cannot be swept under the rug.
Even though I don't trust his real intentions on this struggle anymore. He has become too egocentric, too unreasonable I can't still understand why anyone who says he care about Igbo should be celebrating the prison break of hardened criminals dat will end up being a problem to the good People of Imo state.
Dede Ifeanyi know this and know peace the kanu of before is not the same again. Kanu don't care about your hate. We the reasonable Igbos are solidly behind him because we see reasons with him. Many are still blind to see it,but thank God that people like Chief Chinedu Eya that hate Kanu for no cause are now seeing what Kanu saw. |

Below are some of Kanu Predictions
On 6th Feb. 2014 Mazi Nnamdi Kanu said
“As they campaign vigorously for elections, you would think, they are coming to grow the economy, enthrone justice, breed unity and tolerance, love for one another. No, they are coming to enthrone Hausa Fulani supremacy, to reposition the security agencies by sacking all competent hands and replace them with their kinsmen in order to drive their ethnic domination of the south, the Fulani herdsmen will be armed and encouraged to slaughter us with impurity and their masters will protect them. They are coming to ensure that my people are enslaved forever. Those who do not believe me will soon see it happen before their eyes”
ON 12 Oct 2014:
“The Fulani will take over the entire south as a continuation of their age old agenda to Islamize Eastern Nigeria. They will brazenly seize our land in pretence of creating crazing fields for the Fulani. Then the conquest will be complete, we will become their slaves forever”
On 6th Nov 2014
“Between Jonathan and Buhari, none is good for us. Freedom remains our only option, Jonathan is weak and confused, Buhari is a bloody thirsty tyrant, who will destroy the land with his parochial view point. His kinsmen will take over the military and the security architecture of the land. Christians and Easterners will become endangered species; He will use the security apparatus to advance the agenda of his ethnic group. My people will suffer”
On 2nd Dec. 2014
“Then a group deadlier than Boko Haram will emerge, they will seize our farmland, rape our women, kill our people and their master will protect, defend and even arm them, because their sole agenda is to enslave us forever. Those who cannot see it now, will soon see it. The hatred in their souls for my people is legendary. They do not see us as humans. They kill, they slaughter, they burn and they destroy. Mindless bloodletting is in their DNA. My people are in trouble”
On 16th Jan 2015
“Unity flows with love and mutual respect. This artificial unity with people who see you as an infidel and unbeliever is fake and dangerous. We are better off on our own. They kill with impunity, yet they say we must stay together. They have only one agenda, to chase away Jonathan and enslave us forever. They are coming with vengeance, anger and revenge for the years they stayed out of power. They plan to intimidate, silence and enslave us. Their world view is so strange and different from ours, we are in big trouble”
On 15th March 2015
“All we ever wanted is freedom to realize our full potentials in the space of land God Almighty placed us in this planet, but there is persons whose agenda is to intimidate and dominate others. They hate freedom, justice and fair play. They enslaved Northerners for centuries, they want to extend and replicate this dominating culture down South. They use terror as a weapon of intimidation, they have no regard for non-Muslims, they hate us with passion, yet they won’t let my people go. Their only desire is to dominate and oppress others, once they are out of power; they immediately resort to either Pogroms (1966) Sharia law introduction (2000/2001) or Boko Haram (2011). They are enemies of peaceful co-existence. We want freedom, we respect justice and equity, and above all, we respect the sanctity of human live. These people do not; they use terror to intimidate and subdue in order to rule over everybody else” End of quote |
