Culture / Why Do Some Africans And Churches Disregard Traditional Mariage by TRAPQUEEN1(f): 9:19pm On Apr 19, 2017
This picture shows an asante traditional marriage and a British traditional marriage.

I am yet to see a British couple performing the asante traditional marriage , so I ask, why is it that some Africans and African churches disregard our own traditional marriage?

Okay before anyone bites my head of this topic is not a bashing thread but more out of interest and curiosity.

I know that generally black people suffer from this "disease" but now out of fellow West Africans I have heard this complexion thing the most from Nigerians. So what exactly is wrong with being dark skinned. Are black people supposed to be white? We have all kinds of skin tones raging from dark to light but why should dark skinned blacks be mocked and ridiculed by other blacks because of their complexion? It makes no sense to me.

Black people are the most discreminated race in th world and the fact that we also discreminate amongst ourselves makes it sadder

Some of these comments are so disgusting. So what is wrong with black people having dark skin. Why is it seen as a sin? It makes no sense when a black person insults another black person about being dark. Something is really wrong somewhere!

Since we on the valentines "buzz" just decided to make this thread in appreciation for my oga tongue

This man is so amazing and I thank God that he brought such a wonderful man into my life. We have had our ups and downs as the case with any relationship But after so many years I just seem to fall in love with him more and more each day.

I believe that a relationship will work irrespective of where you come from as long as there is love, respect and mutual understanding just to name a few.

I just want to wish you all a happy Valentine's day in advance. Be safe and go to church!

I agree our when it comes to corruption Ghana has caught up to Nigeria and left Nigeria behind. Ghana is very Corrupt.

Exactly. Perhaps he may be one of those ignorant ones who knows nothing about what's happening in his motherland. You get those too. I am just appalled at his crass behaviour!
Politics / Re: I Received The Greatest Embarassment Of My Life Recently by TRAPQUEEN1(f): 5:53am On Sep 29, 2015
OMG @ op am really sorry about the embarrassment you went through.

I would have been equally embarrassed! That guy is an idiot and am shocked that he would say such insensitive things like that in front of your boss and yourself.

My advice is just keep your distance (don't get too close to him). I personally cant stand crass individuals.

As one of the only two Africans at work, you guys are supposed to have each others back at all times. Maybe he didn't mean for it to go that far. A clear case of verbal diarrhea because I know a lot of Ghanaian's don't like to be compared to Nigeria and often times than not some people think we are the same. Either way it's not an excuse for such.

I can't get close with such crass individuals. There is certain things that one just can't say. Honestly I am ashamed that he did that as a fellow Ghanaian American. I hope this Incident will not leave you with negative views of the whole population as we are all not all the same.

Also watch what comes out of your mouth, because if you constantly say bad stuff about your own country then others may feel like it is okay to do the same since you constantly do it.

I will commend you on the way you handled the situation. You did not lose your cool which is very good under the circumstances smiley

Culture / Re: Are Ghanaian's Offended By The Name 'Ghana Must Go' Giving to a Particular Bag? by TRAPQUEEN1(f): 8:24pm On Sep 20, 2015
Jiggaman is right though. I always used to wonder what the term Ghana must go bag means and when I found out about the origin, I kinda thought it was a bit insensitive to continue to use such a name for a bag even till today. It is offensive to many Ghanaians.

But I hear you kay29000. I also think it's just something that is what it is, most people don't use the term in a derogatory way but have just become so used to calling the bag Ghana must go

is Ghanian Jollof really sweeter? Just kidding o I know what you will answer grin

Just wondering, do you guys think of all Nigerians as the same thing, cause in Naija we stereotype based of the three major (very different) ethnic groups, Igbo Hausa and Yoruba. But when you guys meet a Nigerian do you just think of them as a Nigerian.... and which ethnic group do you guys see most in Ghana (ie. In London there are mostly Yorubas so they represent the Nigerian stereotype there, in SA there are mostly igbos and same for them).

Sorry that question was so unclear lol
Honestly speaking I can't tell the difference between the different tribes in Nigeria and I can say that a lot of people can't either. We see them as a Nigerian. Well I dunno which tribe is mostly represented in Ghana as like I said before unless the person comes out and say they are Yoruba/ Igbo etc I won't know what tribe they are from but I think most likely the Yorubas going by history(they have been in Ghana for over 200 years) and stats( After Nigeria and Benin the 3rd largest population of Yorubas are in Ghana).

I generally try and stay away from tribalism and generalism and I base my perceptions from an individual point of view
