The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, on Tuesday, alleged that stolen crude oil products are now stored in places of worship such as churches and mosques. This was as he lamented that the phenomenon had become widespread, permeating several aspects of society. Kyari disclosed this when he appeared at the 49th Session of the State House Briefing Organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to him, the NNPC operatives discovered that stolen petroleum products are stored in places of worship with the consent of the clergy, members, and neighbours. He revealed that at least 295 illegal connections were spotted on a 200km stretch of pipeline in one instance. Such spate of vandalism, he said, has prompted the NNPC to shut down its entire network of pipelines conveying petroleum products nationwide. “Wherever our products have gone to, everybody has become some sort of vandal,” he said. Asides from vandalism, the aging pipelines also contributed to the shutdown. Consequently, the company now relies heavily on petrol tankers, which Kyari admitted, were not favourable to roads. A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, dismissed the fresh bail application filed by suspended DCP Abba Kyari. Justice Emeka Nwite, in a ruling, held that Kyari had not given sufficient grounds for the application to be granted. The judge said the detained police officer failed to raise new facts in his latest application after being denied the earlier bail request. Nwite consequently adjourned the matter until Oct 19, October 20 and 21 for trial continuation. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the judge had, on July 20, fixed today for the ruling on the bail plea filed by Kyari and other police officers charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for drug offence. Kyari had prayed the court for another bail following the attack on Kuje Correctional Centre by terrorists who freed scores of their members. Kyari and other defendants are being detained in the Kuje Correctional Centre. On July 5, Boko Haram breakaway faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province, led an attack on the custodial centre. The Federal Government said 879 detainees escaped, including all 68 imprisoned Boko Haram members. NAN https://punchng.com/kuje-attack-court-denies-abba-kyari-bail/ |
A member of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Ayo Oyalowo, has said that tertiary education is not a human right. Ayo Oyalowo disclosed this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today. FG inaugurates reconstructed Gombe-Yola HighwayReps probe N13bn ‘extra-budgetary’ spending by Nigeria’s missions The APC chieftain was responding to a comment made by a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, Anthony Elihebo, who made a reference to a remark by the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on the university education in light of the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities. Oyalowo said the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinub, does not own a private university, but understands what it means to educate people. He said, “Thank God Asiwaju doesn’t have a private university. I think he understands; but you can check that universities in Lagos are not on strike. It tells you of the investment he has made in education when he was governor and it has continued. Today, institutions in Lagos are not on strike; it tells you he understands what it means to educate people. “I think we make so much noise about tertiary education that I think we don’t always understand. Tertiary education is not ‘a human right.’ I mean basically by WHO standard primary and secondary schools are actually a right; it’s a criminal offence not to allow people to go through. “If we do so well in primary and secondary schools, we will not have so much problem in the university. The reason is that if you go to the university and you see some of the people we produce as graduates, you will be sad. So we need to develop the bedrock of education. ASUU has always been on strike.” https://dailytrust.com/tertaiarty-education-is-not-a-human-right-apc-chieftain |

Manchester City will receive Nottingham Forest for the Matchday 5 of the 2022/2023 Premier League. Here you can find all you need to know about this game, such as when, where, at what time, and how to watch or live stream in the United States. You can watch it through Peacock in the US. The hosts are second only 2 points behind Arsenal, the current leaders who started with four wins in this tournament. However, the “Citizens” have obtained 10 points, winning 3 and drawing 1. Their last game was the 4-2 victory against Crystal Palace, with 3 goals from Haaland. Of course they want to continue with this performance. The return to the Premier League of the historic Nottingham Forest has been complicated. At the moment they have been able to obtain 4 points out of a possible 12 (1 win, 1 draw and 2 losses). This team really needs to get more points, taking into account that the main objective is to maintain the category. Likewise, as visitors to Manchester City, a draw will not be a bad result. |

The Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday, released $265m to airlines operating in the country, to settle outstanding ticket sales to check a brewing crisis in the country’s aviation sector. A breakdown of the figure indicated that $230m was released as special foreign exchange intervention while another $35m was released through Retail SMIS auction. Disclosing this in a statement, the Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Mr Osita Nwanisobi, said the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, and his team were concerned about the development and what it portends for the sector and travellers as well as the country in the comity of nations. Nwanisobi retiterated that the bank was not against any company repatriating its funds from the country, adding that what the bank stood for was an orderly exit for those that might be interested in doing so. “With Friday’s release, it is expected that operators and travelers as well will heave huge sighs of relief, as some airlines had threatened to withdraw their services in the face of unremitted funds for outstanding sale of tickets,” CBN said. There has been serious concerns and reactions over hundreds of millions of dollars earned by foreign airlines operating in the country which they could not repatriate due to foreign exchange scarcity problems. https://punchng.com/cbn-releases-265m-to-airlines-over-repatriation-challenges/ |

If Manchester City had a bogey side in the Premier League last season it was surely Crystal Palace. The Eagles were one of only two sides to win at the Etihad before holding Pep Guardiola's side to a 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park in March. City have actually only won this fixture once in the last four seasons, so this isn't the formality of game the odds imply and punters rushing in to back the Premier League champions at 1/5 with Betway are by no means certan to be on a winner. Patrick Vieira's side are 12/1 to repeat last year's trick and influct a first defeat of the season on City. This looks a distinctly tougher fixture for City than their last home game against Bournemouth, which they dominated in the extreme. Palace are well organised and incredibly dangerous on the break, as they showed at Anfield a couple of weeks ago. City did enough to take all three points against Newcastle last weekend but showed some vulnerabilities in allowing the hosts several big opportunities. That is by some distance the most trouble City have looked in during a game so far this season and it will surely provide Palace with a good deal of optimism that they can go to the Etihad and cause the hosts problems. Palace followed their point at Anfield by dispatching Aston Villa with relative ease last weekend, a game in which Wilf Zaha scored twice. The former Manchester United winger has looked really sharp in the opening games of the season and City cannot allow him the time and space to run at defenders in the final third. |
