The umbrella body of the Yoruba self-determination group known as Ilana Omo Oodua on Friday sent birthday greetings to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as he clocked 79. The group led by 86-year-old Professor of History, Banji Akintoye, said it wished Buhari everything he had done for the people of the South-West zone. Akintoye’s spokesman, Maxwell Adeleye, in an exclusive chat with The PUNCH, said may the life of the President be run the way he is currently running Nigeria. He said, “We at Ilana Omo Oodua wish President Muhammadu Buhari what he has done for the Nigerian people. May his life be run the way he has run Nigeria. We wish him what he has done for the Yoruba people in Nigeria.” The group also said the President should allow a referendum to hold to discuss the corporate co-existence of the Nigerian nation. “He (Buhari) should allow us to conduct a referendum so that we can determine our sovereignty so that we can determine if we want to still remain in Nigeria or not. That is our demand from him at 79. At 79, he is alive because of the grace of God and he is enjoying the grace of God,” Adeleye added. Buhari, from Katsina State, was Nigeria’s head of state between December 1983 and August 1985 before his return as civilian President in May 2015. Many Nigerians are currently disappointed in his regime as they lament untold hardship. The late Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, in June 2021, had said that Buhari scored F9 in managing the economy, the security challenges of the country as well as in his anti-graft fight. As he clocked 79, former heads of state and Presidents including Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, Abdulsalami Abubakar, were yet to send Buhari birthday greetings as of press time. Secessionist agitations in Southern Nigeria Of late, growing dissatisfaction, disaffection, and perceived injustice have fueled secessionist agitations in Southern Nigeria. While Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho is an arrowhead of Yoruba Nation agitation in the South-West zone, embattled Nnamdi Kanu leads the proscribed secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra in the South-East. Akintoye is an arrowhead of the Yoruba Nation agitation, championing the secession of the South-West zone from the Nigerian entity. The Professor of History is currently in Benin Republic to oversee the release of Igboho, who has spent exactly five months in a prison in the Francophone West African nation. https://punchng.com/president-79-may-buharis-life-be-run-the-way-he-is-running-nigeria-akintoye-led-group/ |

I read on the front page on the achievement of President at 79 is agriculture and I asked myself, who is lying? |
The House of Representatives has said the Federal Government should declare a state of emergency on stable food in Nigeria, warning that famine looms in the country due to the growing insecurity that is frustrating agriculture. According to the House, the security crisis in the country is eroding the achievements of the Federal Government led by the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on the agricultural revolution in the country. A member of the House, Sani Bala, had raised the alarm via a motion of urgent public importance at the plenary on Thursday, which the lawmakers unanimously adopted. Bala cited the recent projection by the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organisation that an estimated 13 million people in Nigeria would face the risk of acute food insecurity in the next few months. He quoted the report as saying that the number of people in critical or worse phases of food insecurity may increase to about 16.9 million unless efforts are made to provide adequate support and government intervention to ensure recovery and resilience. The lawmaker also noted that the Federal Government has promoted massive agricultural development in recent times, leading to the closure of land borders against the importation of some staple food in order to encourage adequate local production and food sufficiency. However, Bala said, “The House is concerned that agricultural activities, production and its overall development in the country have been adversely affected by insurgency and banditry activities, especially in the northern parts, where bandits have taken over farmlands – cultivated farmlands – and agricultural produce are burnt and destroyed/ “Farmers have stopped going to their farmlands for fear of being killed or kidnapped and in some other instances. Farmers are taxed by bandits to access their farmlands; “The House is also concerned that in addition to insecurity, the advent of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic has also contributed immensely to reducing agricultural production activities in the country. “The House is further concerned that the impact of COVID-19 alone has occasioned severe and widespread increases in global food insecurity, thereby affecting vulnerable households in almost every country, with impacts expected to continue into 2022 and possibly beyond. “The House is disturbed that the increasing rate of global food insecurity has caused countries like China to adopt an Action Plan on saving food, which signals the imperativeness of guarding our relatively diminishing harvest of food produce. “The House is alarmed that, despite signals of impending global food shortages, the daily illegal movement of 40 to 50 trucks of millet, maize, guinea corn, etc., out of the country to neighbouring countries further depletes Nigeria’s food bank and is an attempt to increase the woes that may result from food crisis.” Adopting the motion, the House urged the Federal Government to “declare a state of emergency on staple food produce and initiate a deliberate plan of averting any impending famine or food shortage in the post COVID-19 era.” The House also urged the government to, as a matter of urgency, direct relevant agencies to forestall further smuggling of grains out of the country to neighbouring countries. The lawmakers further urged the government to increase efforts of massive food storage in nationwide silos in the attempt to join other nations to save food for the future. https://punchng.com/insecurity-famine-looms-declare-emergency-on-food-reps-urge-fg/ |

DubaiLandLord2:However, Adebanjo in an an interview on Arise Television Tuesday morning, denied the allegations. He claimed that Akande was lying and selling Yoruba race out in a bid to ensure Tinubu emerges as president in 2023. Adebanjo said, “He (Bisi Akande) is too junior to me to be commenting on political matters. He is a political neophyte. He is already known to me as a pathological liar. His colleague, Akinfenwa, in his book said that is who he is. And those of us who know him also know. He is just an apron string of Tinubu. “He is too junior for me to be commenting on what he said. I signed his papers to be governor. And the condition we gave for him to become governor was that of sovereign national conference for the restructuring of the country back to federalism. That was the condition he was elected in 1999 and he reneged on that. |

Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, has lambasted Chief Bisi Akande, over allegations levelled against him in his book, ‘My Participation’. Akande, a former Governor of Osun State and first chairman of the All Progressives Congress, had last week presented his book to the public. In one of the accounts in the book, Akande claimed that Adebanjo pestered Bola Tinubu to build a house for him. However, Adebanjo in an an interview on Arise Television Tuesday morning, denied the allegations. “We call all of them – Bola Tinubu, Segun Osoba to warn when they reneged. They have sold out the Yoruba race to Muhammadu Buhari all because they want Tinubu to be president. That is not my business. “But telling lies is the one I don’t know and I don’t know how a man like Akande who claims that we all come from the root of Obafemi Awolowo can be taking pride in his participation in the government of one, Buhari, who they know is a disaster when all those who supported him initially are now regretting that they supported him. “There is no sensible man who will come out now and say he is proud of Buhari. It shows the type of character he is. So, he is too junior for me to be commenting on what he said.” https://punchng.com/youre-lying-selling-out-yoruba-race-to-make-tinubu-president-pa-adebanjo-slams-akande/ |
