ABUJA- Pioneer national chairman of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Rufai Hanga has dumped the ruling party, saying the APC right now is ‘technically non- existent’.
Our correspondent gathered that many prominent leaders in the party made entreaties to Hanga not to leave the party but he disclosed that there is no going back on his decision as the APC will soon collapse.
Hanga, who disclosed in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT in Abuja that he has resigned his membership of the APC however said he has not joined any other political party for now.
He said even though he was one of those who laboured to build the APC, he cannot wait and watch the party collapse on his head.
” Yes, I decided to walk away from the APC even though I have not yet openly declared for any other party. But I have left the party and I’m watching them do their thing”.

And NNPC is hurriedly fixing up its Warri and PH refineries
If we keep subsidy we will end up in more and more debt. Subsidy costs are going to shoot up to 3 trillion next year. Oil crude revenues are also not stable and cannot fully fund our budget. Oil has been too low below sustenance level. So subsidy has to go.
And I hate the idea by the way. But we effing have no choice. Which 4 to 6 refineries are nearly ready? |

The pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, may go higher than the projected N340/litre in February 2022 when the Federal Government removes its subsidy on the commodity, oil marketers said on Tuesday.
Also, it was gathered that both independent and major oil marketers were perfecting plans to resume PMS imports once the government halts the subsidy regime.
They, however, expressed worry over the fluctuation in foreign exchange rates and how this would impact on petrol price next year.
For about four years, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has been the sole importer of petrol into Nigeria. Marketers stopped importing the commodity due to their inability to effectively access the United States dollar for imports.
Last week, the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Mele Kyari, announced at a World Bank event in Abuja that petrol would sell for between N320 and N340 per litre from February 2022 by which time the Federal Government have removed the subsidy.
He explained that Nigeria would be out of the subsidy regime in the first quarter of next year, stressing that subsidy would have been eliminated this year but was stalled due to certain conditions.
The current pump price of petrol at filing stations is between N162 and N165/litre, although the product is mostly sold at the upper N165/litre rate due to recent challenges in the downstream oil sector.
But marketers told our correspondent on Tuesday that the cost of petrol would be higher than the projected N320 – N340/litres if there was no improvement in the foreign exchange rate.
Dealers under the aegis of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria and Petroleum Products Retail Outlets owners Association of Nigeria stated that though they were set to import petrol, the cost of the commodity would be high in February.
IPMAN and PETROAN members own bulk of the filling stations across the country and currently make purchases from depots before selling to final consumers at their various retail outlets.
“Yes, if there is no subsidy, some marketers can import, but the only thing is that it will be costly. The price will be higher than the projected cost because of the exchange rate,” the National Vice President, IPMAN, Abubakar Maigandi, stated.
He added, “The challenge of accessing forex will definitely affect imports because over 90 per cent of petrol that will be consumed across the country will depend on importation. Also this is because the refineries are not functioning.”
The National Public Relations Officer, IPMAN, Chief Ukadike Chinedu, also stated that the foreign exchange rate would determine the cost of petrol from next year after subsidy removal.
He said, “If the Federal Government says there is no going back on subsidy removal this time round, which is a challenge that has dragged on for about 30 years, then it means that they are going to liberalise the market.
“By liberalising the market it will now help independent and major marketers to be able to freely import petroleum products from any source so that products will be available in Nigeria.”
He added, “However, it is pertinent to note the forces of demand and supply will determine the price of the commodity in Nigeria. So literally, whatever the dollar rate is in the international and local markets will pose the actual challenge to marketers
“The issue of black market and official exchange rates is a serious challenge that we foresee. But we believe that the Federal Government is doing something by meeting with the bureau d’change operators on this, so that whatever is obtainable at the banks is what you get in the open market.”
On whether the forex issue could lead to a higher price than the projected N340/litre, Chinedu replied, “Aside from the adverse effects of the removal of subsidy on the wellbeing of Nigerians, we will, of course, see a price that is higher than what they project.
“The price will be higher. It will be higher because the dollar to a large extent determines the price of petroleum products. If the dollar goes up, the price of petrol will increase, and vice versa.”
The President PETROAN, Billy Gillis-Harry, confirmed the position of IPMAN, as he, however, explained that members of his association were ready to import the commodity.
He said, “At PETROAN we already have a vehicle that is in place to start importation petroleum products, gas and other products. We encourage the government to completely remove subsidy.
On the possibility of higher pump price than the projected N340/litre, Gillis-Harry said, “That is why we said that every single thing about petroleum products should be premised on the forces of the market.
“The forces of demand and supply should determine the price.”
The spokesperson of NNPC, Garba-Deen Muhammad, told our correspondent that the issue of petrol pricing was not the function of the oil firm.
“Price issues are policy matters. NNPC does not fix price, it has no mandate. It operates in the sector as a business concern governed by CAMA Laws,” he stated.
Marketers, however, urged the government to consider carrying out programmes that would help ameliorate the plights to be faced by consumers when it eventually puts an end to petrol subsidy. https://punchng.com/petrol-may-sell-above-n340-litre-marketers-plan-imports-amidst-forex-crisis/

Politics › EndSARS: Lagos To Release White Paper On Panel Report Today – Sanwo-Olu by treesun(op): 4:20pm On Nov 30, 2021 |
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu says the government will release its White Paper on the report submitted by the EndSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry on November 15, 2021.
The governor in a speech on Tuesday on the Lekki shootings of October 20, 2020, said, “As an administration, are determined that the next steps that will be taken in this process of coming to terms with the events of October 2020, must bring closure to a painful episode in the history of our state, with the release of the White Paper later today.”
A White Paper is an administrative medium for conveying the decision or position of the government on the report of an administrative or judicial enquiry.
Following the controversy that trailed the shootings of protesters on October 20, 2020, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had inaugurated the judicial panel to uncover the truth and the liars about the incident.
After one year of taking testimonies, receiving evidence and awarding compensations, the eight-man Lagos EndSARS panel submitted a a 309-page report on Monday, November 15, 2021, with shocking revelations which indicted members of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.
In a leaked report, the panel, which has been hugely vilified and blackmailed in the last 14 days, described the Lekki tollgate incident as a massacre in context, claiming that at least nine persons were killed by security agents when they stormed the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020, to disperse the defiant youths protesting against police brutality and extrajudicial killings.
The panel listed 48 names as casualties out of which 22 protesters sustained gunshot injuries, while 15 others were assaulted by soldiers and the police.
It listed the names of the deceased as Victor Sunday Ibanga, Abuta Solomon, Jide, Olalekan Abideen Ashafa, Olamilekan Ajasa, Kolade Salami, Folorunsho Olabisi, Kenechukwu Ugoh and Nathaniel Solomon. The report also listed Abiodun Adesanya, Ifeanyi Nicholas Eji, Tola and Wisdom as “presumed dead.”
It stated, “The atrocious maiming and killing of unarmed, helpless and unresisting protesters while sitting on the floor and waving their Nigerian flags and while singing the National Anthem can be equated to a ‘massacre’ in context.”
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had told United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who was recently on a two-day official visit to Nigeria from November 18 to 19, 2021, that the Federal Government was waiting on Lagos State and other state governments to come up with their conclusions.
However, days later, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed; and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo; rubbished the Lagos panel as illegal and its findings as “tales by moonlight”.
Speaking on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu said his administration has “sincere commitment to uncovering the truth” about the Lekki shootings of October 20, 2020, adding that “no member of the panel can claim that the state government made any attempt to influence them in any way throughout the duration of its sitting.”
“While I commend the panel for undertaking its task to the best of its abilities, it is however regrettable that the panel’s work and the leakage of an unauthorized version of the report have generated much tension. Sadly, a deep wound has been reopened.
“The heated exchanges among various shades of opinion on the report have unfortunately put us all at the risk of missing the larger picture; the fact that what we all seek in common is a land in which we are all safe and secure, law enforcement agents are trusted, and justice is guaranteed for all.
“As I have stated earlier, we have no intention to engage in histrionics or further inflame passion on a matter that has generated intense interest and controversy nationally and internationally. Our decisions and actions will be based entirely on the law, the weight of evidence and an unblemished respect for the truth,” the governor added. https://punchng.com/just-in-endsars-lagos-to-release-white-paper-on-panel-report-today-sanwo-olu/

Politics › BREAKING: Kaduna Begins Transition To Four-day Working Week Dec 1 by treesun(op): 3:52pm On Nov 29, 2021 |
The Kaduna State government on Monday announced that it will commence the transition to a four-day working week from December 1, 2021. The move, which will permit public servants to work from home for one day per week, is a measure designed to help boost productivity, improve work-life balance and enable workers to have more time for their families, for rest and for agriculture. Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye disclosed this in a statement titled ‘KDSG Begins Transition To Four-day Working Week From 1st December 2021.’ According to the statement which read in part, “The measure also reflects lessons learnt from managing the Covid-19 pandemic which required significant relaxations of old working traditions and the ascendance of virtual and remote working arrangements. “A statement from Sir Kashim Ibrahim House stated that the Kaduna State Government will begin implementation of the transitional arrangements in the public service of the state from 1st December 2021. From that date, working hours for public servants hours are adjusted to 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. “However, all public servants, other than those in schools and healthcare facilities, will work from home on Fridays. This interim working arrangement will subsist until the government is ready to move to the next stage of the transition which will culminate in the four-day week across all MDAs in the state. “Senior officials are working on detailed guidelines to ensure that the emergency services and the education and health systems in the state continue to deliver services 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the transition and beyond. The government will also ramp up its efforts to give public servants access to digital devices and platforms to enable them work effectively from home. Given the significant investments the state government is making in ICT, it will ensure that most of its automated services deliver the levels of performance required to give citizens seamless access. “The state government expects the required legal and regulatory framework to be in place by January 2022. This will also enable the organised private sector to engage with the process and agree a longer transition period to a four-day working week.” https://punchng.com/breaking-kaduna-begins-transition-to-four-day-working-week-dec-1/ |

Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said that the present administration is grooming and positioning young people to take up leadership roles through a number of programmes. The vice president, who was represented by the Head of Service, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan stated this at the 2021 Annual Directors’ Conference of the Institute of Directors, held in Abuja.
Osinbajo said the Leadership Enhancement and Development Programme (LEAD-P) being implemented through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation was to identify and train 100 middle Level officers on grade Level 10-14 within the public service annually and enhance their leadership potentials. Other leadership development programmes, he added, is the Build Your Brand (BYB) initiative which is a leadership development programme designed for young business leaders.
The NextGen Leaders Programme, he added, is an inter-Generational mentoring and networking programme that mobilises and connects youth with structured support system from committed adults to remove impediments to their growth while the youth also support teenagers who are about to become youth.
The two initiatives are being driven by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. Also, through the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, the vice president said the Young Professionals Programme (YPP) is being implemented to build a workforce of young and competent individuals that can champion economic growth and diversification through research, skills development and innovations.
“The programme is also intended to ensure that young individuals are equipped to properly understand the challenges and dynamics of public sector management and administration,” he added.
According to him, in 2018, the “Not too Young to Run” bill signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari dropped the age qualification for the office of the President from 30 to 40 years; Governor from 30 to 35, Senate 30 to 35 and House of Representatives 25 to 30. The federal government has initiated a Young Aspirant Leadership Fellowship (YALF) to complement efforts towards driving the legislation, he added.
“These and many more actions too numerous to mentioned are aimed at engaging the younger generation and giving them required exposure to enable them take up leadership positions” he further said.
Osinbajo urged the Institute of Directors to remain proactive and be in the forefront of promoting effective governance through the mentorship and building of the capacity of younger talents.
