BusinessOil Surpasses $81, Nigerian Production Drops By 130,000 Barrels by treesun(op): 9:10am On Oct 05, 2021
Oil prices climbed above $81 on Monday as the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies announced that it would maintain its steady output increase by 400,000 barrels per day in November, its highest since 2014.

OPEC also said Nigeria’s crude oil production slipped by 130,000 barrels per day in the third quarter of the year.

The International crude oil benchmark, Brent, traded 2.75 per cent higher at $81.46 per barrel as of 3:43 pm Nigerian time on Monday, after the announcement by the Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee, according to Oilprice.com.

A report by Bloomberg said that the meeting would be followed by a full ministerial gathering to review the recommendation.

The United States West Texas Intermediate rose by 2.52 per cent to trade at $77.79 per barrel at the same time. Bloomberg said that data modelled by OPEC+ showed that demand would outstrip supply over the next two months. Yet, the alliance is unlikely to add more than the planned 400,000 barrels per day output.

A report by the PUNCH had stated earlier that the Federal Government said in July that the newly allocated marginal field licences would help the country achieve its production growth to four million barrels per day.

According to OPEC’s monthly oil market report, Nigeria’s oil output dropped by 9.28 per cent in Q3 2021 as average daily production dropped from 1.40 million barrels in June to 1.27 million barrels in August.

The average daily production in July was 1.39 million barrels per day. This showed that despite the rise in oil prices during the period, Nigerian production kept declining.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, at a conference in Dubai in September attributed Nigeria’s production struggles to technical issues from re-tapping reservoirs that were earlier shut to comply with stringent cuts from OPEC.

He said output could rebound to around 1.7 million barrels per day by November and two million barrels per day by the end of the year.

However, experts have said that the possibility of production reaching 1.7 million barrels before the end of the year was unlikely, placing their estimates to the first quarter of 2022 instead.

Energy expert, Charlotte Essiet, who is also the Director, Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at AOS Orwell, told our correspondent that from data available, oil production tended to slow year-on-year in the fourth quarter.

She said, “Oil price increases but demand growth is currently flat. The production rate of 1.7 million barrels per day is achievable in Q1 2022.”

Senior manager, sales and marketing at Geoplex Drillteq Limited, Mr Olakunle Dosunmu, told our correspondent that the lack of investment in production when the prices were low was factor responsible for the decline.

Hopefully, he added, in the first quarter of 2022, the country’s production level could be recovered.

When it comes to roads in Nigeria, I can say I have the requisite knowledge, research and experience to discuss on this topic. I will not disclose myself but you have been economical with the truth and I dont know what you want to achieve with it. If not for FERMA the economic activities of this country would have grounded to a halt. If you say there is room for improvement then I will understand not saying FERMA is the issue with Nigerian roads. You need to apologise to Nigerians for this false and cheap scores you are trying to achieve. After all you are not even a politician, why the lies??
Go and check the road from Sabo to Jibowu under bridge the road that is always flooded, because the small opening for drainages have been blocked by FERMA. I am a certified authority too sir. Why do we have undulations allover our roads. Sir, FERMA contractors, if you want me to put it that way do more harms, because manual labours are used for roads that need precisions!

Toll gates that we cause hold ups, imagine tolls at Ogere and Ibadan again, some of us grew up in that era. Time wasting. There must be alternate roads.

one has to be patient with alot of people here on nairaland. I dont understand th rational behind him or her saying FERMA worsen the roads in Nigeria. You have highlighted the various challenges Ferma is facing as a Government agency, improvements and positive interactions is all we should seek for here.
Travel round and don't just stay in your localities, in most place, FERMA will dig, do a portion, erect big sign posts and leave their equipment on the road. After months remove the equipment and those big pay loaders would have indented the road creating crevices.
Please I am not a politician and don't do politics. Investigate. Yesterday FERMA started fixing the Iwo, Osun road.

FreeStuffsNG:
Please which of the negatives above is caused by FERMA and those roads you just mentioned are way better than roads like the Ota tollgate or Agbara- Badagry without tolls.

I am not having this convo for the usual negative mindset and lamentations as if everything is the fault of government. Those digging roads without authorization and those burning stuffs on roads etc are part of the problems as much as those who don't suggest probable solutions to our problems yet keep blaming government all the time.

It's your responsibility to suggest ways too and if you can't, you are not helping anyone with the 'lament and go' approach.
FERMA didn't spoil those roads or make the roads worse like you alluded to. I just feel that with the return of tolls, FERMA now becomes underutilized and will serve us better to have agencies with a new mandate that even extends to some rural roads at least in each of the 774 LGAs.
Those digging roads, especially those laying fibre lines pay governments and government will not fix after collecting.
PoliticsRe: Senate Passes Bill To Scrap FERMA by treesun(op): 10:09am On Sep 30, 2021
FreeStuffsNG:
FERMA didn't make road worse sir. It is wear and tear from use, environmental degradation and poor maintenance in the face of poor funding that make road worse. The politics part is relevant because of the high stake in such high budget projects and it was same politics that made FG under HE Obj to demolish all the toll collection and weighing stations in one fell swoop then and that catapulted FERMA into politics.
I grew up seeing those tolls and the sections where trucks and trailers are weighed to ascertain if they have exceeded the maximum weight for safety reasons and maintenance of the road. It was not FERMA that scrapped the tolls and weighing stations.
Now that the tolls are coming back, whoever collects the tolls and FG can have a PPP contract that ensures such business arrangement maintains the road while the new agency should oversee issues such as compliance with standards and handle customer(road users) complaints . We can have back an agency like DFFRI to attend to the last mile rural roads since federal roads would have been covered .
Lekki- Epe that they have been collecting tolls and doing PP, how good are the roads, even Law School area is filled with potholes. MM Airport, Ikeja that have toll and paid parking lots, how good are the road from Airforce base.
For your info, for every litre of fuel, we are paying for road maintenance. So where are the humongous revenue?

I think Ferma has overused its stay. I remember it was the agency PDP under President Obasanjo used to fight Lagos State Government then when Chief Ogunlewe was Honourable Minister of Works . Today, same Chief Ogunlewe is solidly in the camp of same Asiwaju Tinubu he waa being used to fight then.
Must everything be politics. FERMA has made road worse.
PoliticsSenate Passes Bill To Scrap FERMA by treesun(op): 9:45am On Sep 30, 2021
The Senate on Wednesday passed the Federal Road Bill which seeks to repeal the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency Act, Federal Highways Act, and the Control of Advertisement on Federal Highways Act.

The proposed law is aimed at facilitating the establishment of an agency to govern and manage the nation’s federal roads network.

When established, the agency is expected to facilitate private sector participation in the development, financing, maintenance, management, and improvement of roads in Nigeria.

It would also regulate contracts for road concession and other forms of public private partnership as well as set guidelines for the working of PPP contracts.

The bill was sponsored by the Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Toby Okechukwu (PDP, Enugu) and Ossai Nicholas (PDP, Delta).

It was sponsored in the upper chamber by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abubakar (APC, Kebbi) for concurrence and
passage in line with legislative traditions.

No fewer than 20 civilians have died from an alleged air strike in Dabar Masara, a border town in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.

The airstrike, according to a local source, occurred on Sunday, September 26 in the afternoon when most of the villagers were out either on their farmlands or riverine areas fishing

“The civilians were either in their farms or the river bank late afternoon on Sunday when a jet flew over the general area and dropped bombardments in three different locations, all within Dabar Masara.

“In one of the locations attacked, we were told that 10 persons were evacuated and buried that same day. Maybe they mistook them for Boko Haram; but those were our relatives and they were only out looking for their daily bread because even if they stayed at home, nobody will give them foo,” Ahmadu Tijjani, a local source, stated.

Dabar Masara is a farming and fishing community located on the Nigerian side of the Lake Chad region in Monguno LGA.

Ahmadu claimed that Boko Haram fighters had not attacked locals in a long time as the terrorists mostly storm the villages to loot food or fish without harming villagers.

The Directorate of the Air Force Public Relations is yet to react to this incident as of Press time.
