Yesterday, the Delta state government presented the sum of N5,000,000 to each of her first Class Graduates to further their education in any University of their choice, an act which has raised up another round of debate. This is how it was reported on the Delta State Government’s Facebook page:

Delta state Government under the leadership of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has today, as her custom, presented a scholarship of Five Million Naira (N5,000,000) to each of her first Class Graduates to further their educational career in any University of their choice. Delta state Government also gave Fifty Thousand naira (N50,000) each to her Students in the Nigeria Law School (2011 and 2012 Batches) to make-up their scholarship of One Hundred Thousand (N100,000) as promised by the State Government.

The debate surrounding this presentation comes in different forms. Some have argued that the sum is too much. Others have said they shouldn’t have been given the cash, but instead, should have sent the students to reputable Universities for their Masters Degrees and paid their tuition fees directly to the Universities.

2012 Big Brother StarGame winner, Keagan Petersen was involved in a serious car crash, on Sunday November 25, 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa. The auto accident, as we gathered, has left him with a damaged arm in three different places.
He posted through his Facebook page,
“So, [I] was in a big car accident this morning, [my] arm [was] shattered in three places. To the guy, who was driving on my side of the road, I forgive you. Much love people, enjoy your weekend!”
Keegan was admitted at the Constantiaberg Hospital, Cape Town, South Africa. I hear he is doing fine!

Ghanaian actress Jackie Appiah celebrated her December 5th birthday, with children at the Oncology Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana. She also donated food items, drinks and toiletries to the children’s ward.

President Goodluck Jonathan could not hold back his emotions at the burial rites for his younger brother, Meni Innocent Jonathan, who died 20 November, as he burst into tears.

Meni Jonathan will be buried on Saturday after a commendation service at the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Otuoke at 10 am.

Television talk show presenter and producer, Mosunmola Abudu, is set to launch a private television channel.

The cable television channel is called EbonyLife, a lifestyle channel that will run on Dstv in several African countries. According to reports, the crew is currently being selected, following the acquisition of equipment and the signing of a “landmark JV and concession agreement with Tinapa, in Cross Rivers State.”

Abudu, popularly known as Mo on her talk show, Moments With Mo, is funding the project herself. The 48 year-old entrepreneur is also a human resources management consultant.

She began her talk show in 2009, and focuses on issues such as lifestyle, culture, health, entertainment, marriage and politics.

With the forthcoming inauguration, she increases the number of Nigerians that have launched television channels both cable and terrestrial.

In August 2012, popular producer and Chief Executive officer of Consolidated Media Associates, Tajudeen Adepetu, took his act a bit further by launching OnTv, an all entertainment channel that covers music, movie, fashion and sports.

Television and radio host, and co-owner of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, also launched a channel, Kennis Music Channel.

The channel, currently running as a cable station, is a 24-hour music, entertainment and events one.

Popular film producer, Wale Adenuga, has also unveiled his wapTV, which is currently on Star Times.

Students of the public school lack enough chairs and tables, some of them had to look for used tires to sit for their exams. This is so terrible and what is the government doing about it? NOTHING! It's a big shame this is still happening in 2012!!!

A former Nigerian national basketball player was shot dead in a botched burglary in Texas before Thanksgiving.Chinedu Onyeuku, 29, and another person allegedly tried to break into a residence on Rio Grande Street in Plano on November 21 and was shot and killed by the homeowner. His accomplice ran away without injury. Police are still trying to track the second burglar.

The Nigeria Basketball Federation posted a statement saying that the 29-year-old athlete played basketball for the team that qualified for the London 2012 Olympics. However, Onyeuku was not on the Olympic roster and did not actually compete.

The statement reads: '[His] passion for playing with D’Tigers was deep-seated and he will be greatly missed. The federation joins his family and team mates to mourn a departed son, father, husband and great patriot.'

Former Head of State and a former presidential candidate, Maj-Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) has lost his first daughter Zulai. She passed away on Thursday evening after delivering a baby in Kaduna.

Zulai Buhari, 40, died from sickle cell anemia. According to Sahara Reporters she developed complications after having a baby two days ago at Chasel Hospital, a private clinic .

She passed away despite efforts save her. However, the new born baby is healthy and doing well. She left behind Amira, Moh’d and the two-day-old baby girl.

Olaleye Sunday Olanrewaju was a final year Accounting student of DLI in Unilag. He was hit by a stray bullet on Saturday, 24th of Nov. 2012 on his way to church at Sango Ota during a robbery incident.

His family members have described him as a gentle, easy going man. A friend of Sunday named as Titilayo, said he was a fine, intelligent and vibrant young man. He will be greatly missed by all.

He has been laid to rest. May his soul rest in peace.

Justin and Selena, I just can't keep track of you two crazy kids. It's like, in homeroom you were in L-O-V-E, and then by lunch you were yellin' and screamin' and storming out of Yamato restaurant, but by fifth period you were snuggling in health class and making plans to go to Benihanna. Are you guys like, together? Or are you broken up? This wishy-washy bulls**t is confusing.

Justin and Selena, is this how things are going to be? While I like to think that your recent restaurant visits and group dates are just the normal petering out of a relationship (those things are hard to kill, man), a part of me wonders if we instead have another On-Again, Off-Again Relationship Monster on our hands. Of all the monsters, those are the worst kind of monsters. They are way more annoying than the Two-Headed Celebrity Couple Monster (Bennifer Part 2 isn't exactly what I'd call threatening) and far more unpredictable than the Spurned Ex Monster (has Taylor Swift had a new idea in like, ever?). And, like all monsters, this is one best to be avoided.

But, Justin and Selena, if this is what you've decided to become, at least do it right. Learn from the On-Again, Off-Agains who have come before you, and discover the least annoying way to tackle this, the most frustrating of relationship statuses.
