Festus Keyamo, a human rights lawyer, and Akinlolu Osinbajo, brother of Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, are among the 91 people shortlisted for the prestigious senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) title.

The Legal Practitioner’s Privilege Committee (LPPC) released a list of 91 candidates considered for SAN on Thursday. Gambo Saleh, secretary of LPPC, said the candidates comprised 67 practising lawyers and 24 legal scholars.


In 2016, 50 candidates shortlisted but only 22 were conferred with the title.

After leaving YBNL due to his expired contract, High life singer Adekunle Gold has unveiled his official band ‘The 79th Element’.

The band members include Micheal Bakare as producer and music director of the band, Oladele Afolabi on drums, Babatunde Alaba on percussion, Ojekunle Ayodeji on the keyboard, Owa Ayo on Base guitar, Femi Leye lead guitar, Kosoko Adekunbi and Aigbokhan Martins backing vocals.

The Band Name "79th Element" is culled from the atomic number of Gold.

The 20-year-old beat Demarai Gray and Ben Chilwell to the prize at the club's award ceremony on Monday.

The 82 Chibok school girls who were released on May 6th after they were swapped with some Boko Haram commanders, will meet with their parents this Friday May 19th.

The girls have been in Abuja since May 7th. They are currently undergoing a reorientation programme.


Leaders of the Chibok community met with the Federal government last week and they were handed photographs of the released Chibok girls for proper identification.

After their parents identified the girls, they were then asked to come to Abuja on Friday to meet with them.

Justice M.B. Idris of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Tuesday gave an order mandating the Director General of the State Security Service (SSS) and the Department of State Security to produce Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah before the court within 72 hours of the court order.

The court also asked that the agencies in the alternative should show cause why he should not be released unconditionally or upon such conditions as the court may see fit in the circumstance. Justice Idris adjourned the matter delineated FHC/L/CS/644/2017 till May 12, 2017 for mention.

The court order was given following an application of Motion Exparte dated May 5, 2017 and filed on May 8, 2017, by Dr Ubah and Capital Oil and Gas Limited, praying the court for an order of court asking that the SSS and DSS should within 48 hours show cause why he should not be released unconditionally or upon such conditions as the court may see fit in the circumstances.

Ubah and Capital Oil had filed the suit before the court pursuant to the Fundamental Right (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009 against the DSS, SSS and seven others.

Other defendants in the suit alongside the two defendants are the Attorney General of the Federation, the Chairman of the Economic and Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Inspector General of Police, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), NNPC Retail Limited and the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

In an affidavit of urgency in support of the application sworn to by a legal practitioner with Capital Oil, George Oranuba, it was averred that Ubah and Capital Oil commenced a suit against the respondents by Originating summons seeking several declaratory and injunctive reliefs for the protection of their fundamental rights which has been violated or is likely to be violated by the respondents.

He added that when the suit came up before the court, they were granted leave to serve originating summons on the respondents and this was done on April 28, 2017. He stated further that despite the pendency of the suit, the EFCC and SSS still invited Ubah to their office on the issue that is already the subject matter of the suit.

He concluded that if the court does not intervene by granting the reliefs sought, the respondents will keep Ubah in their custody where he may be coerced into acceding to whatever conditions imposed on him in exchange of his freedom as previously done to him during incarceration between March 24 to April 14, 2017.

Veteran Nollywood Actor, Bob Manuel Udokwu is the latest chief in town. The actor who hails from Ogidi in Anambra State was conferred with the the chieftaincy title of "Nze Anagba Nkili".

Read statement from the New Chief:

"The traditional ruler of my home town Ogidi in Anambra State Igwe Uzo Onyido has conferred on me the chieftaincy title of "Nze Anagba Nkili" meaning "Chief that people rush to behold" as my town's recognition of my contribution to the upliftment of the society through entertainment.

The ceremony took place yesterday Sunday 6th May 2017 at the Igwe's palace in Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Speaking at the occasion, Igwe Onyido said that with this new title, my status in the society especially in Ogidi has been elevated to be among decision makers and opinion leaders in the town. He also prayed God to uplift me further in the society.

Responding, I pledged to use my celebrity status to work for the success of the Igwe, Ogidi town, Anambra State and Nigeria as a whole.
Four other illustrious sons of Ogidi were also honoured with various chieftaincy titles at the well attended occasion filled with pomp and pageantry.

It will be recalled that on November 16th 2015,the Igwe of Enugwu Aguleri also in Anambra State Eze Chukwuemeka Eri conferred on me the chieftaincy title of " Onye Anagba Nkili " meaning " The one who people rush to behold ".
