PoliticsFubara, 2 PDP Governors In Advanced Talks To Join APC Ahead Of 2027 Election by Truths9ja(op):
FULL LIST: Fubara, Other PDP Governors in Advanced Talks to Join APC Ahead of 2027 Elections

As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, the political landscape continues to shift dramatically, with credible reports indicating that at least three to four governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in advanced talks to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid.

The growing wave of defections is largely driven by mounting political uncertainty in the northern states, where support for Tinubu’s re-election is reportedly waning. In a move seen as a major political realignment, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno publicly declared his support for President Tinubu last Friday, stating that “party politics no longer exists” in his state, as both APC and PDP members are now part of what he described as a "unity party."

In a strategic twist, governors such as Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Peter Mbah of Enugu State, and the embattled and currently suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State are reportedly exploring options to back Tinubu’s second term—either by defecting to the APC or aligning behind the president while still retaining their PDP membership.

Sources reveal that following Governor Eno’s endorsement, the PDP’s entire political structure in Akwa Ibom may be mobilized to ensure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, as well as to facilitate the return of Senate President Godswill Akpabio to the Senate.

This wave of alignment is seen as a major boost to the APC’s prospects in the 2027 general election, particularly in light of the growing unrest and dissent within the northern political bloc. Tinubu had secured approximately 62% of his total votes from the 19 northern states in 2023.

Advanced Negotiations and Conditional Defections

Insiders say discussions between the APC leadership and several PDP governors have reached advanced stages, with a few conditions attached to ensure mutual benefit. President Tinubu is believed to have held closed-door meetings with key APC senators to prepare the ground for the planned defections.

Governor Eno is said to have been swayed partly by concerns about threats to his re-election, while also hoping that a move to the APC might protect his predecessor, Udom Emmanuel, who is under EFCC scrutiny. Senator Akpabio is reportedly coordinating Eno’s defection and has pledged reciprocal support for Eno’s second-term ambition.

Further reports suggest that Eno has distanced himself from PDP governors by refusing to host their meetings in Akwa Ibom, signalling his gradual withdrawal from the party’s ranks.

At a recent public lecture in Uyo, Akpabio—represented by National Assembly Service Commission Chairperson Saviour Enyiekere—publicly endorsed Eno’s 2027 re-election, praising him for being the first opposition governor to support President Tinubu’s second term.

Governors Weighing Their Options

Governor Oborevwori of Delta is reportedly waiting for final commitments from the APC side before deciding whether to defect or continue supporting Tinubu from within the PDP. Similarly, Fubara is said to have initially planned to defect but paused the move due to internal crises in Rivers State and Tinubu’s dissatisfaction with his handling of the conflict, as well as the continued dominance of Nyesom Wike over the APC structure in the state.

Fubara’s primary concern is reportedly securing his mandate amid efforts by political opponents to oust him. He has declined to join other PDP governors in challenging the federal government’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, a move interpreted as an attempt to reconcile with the APC and defect quietly.

Notably, none of the three governors—Fubara, Eno, and Oborevwori—attended the recent PDP Governors’ Forum meeting held in Ibadan. While Akwa Ibom and Delta states were represented by their deputy governors, Fubara failed to send any representative at all.

Mbah and the “Presidency Connection”

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, known for his close ties to the Presidency, is also said to be considering a switch to the APC to enhance his political security and align with Tinubu’s second-term ambition. Mbah, like others, is weighing whether to remain in the PDP or jump ship in exchange for federal backing.

These developments have reportedly stalled PDP discussions on forming a coalition with other opposition parties to challenge Tinubu in 2027. The defecting governors are allegedly behind the decision to withhold PDP support for any anti-Tinubu coalition.

Growing Anxiety Within the PDP

The PDP leadership is reportedly alarmed by the rising tide of defections and is expected to meet urgently to strategize and possibly dissuade the governors from abandoning the party. Party elders fear that the continued exodus of influential members could deal a serious blow to the PDP’s chances in 2027, potentially making Tinubu’s re-election a landslide.

However, some political analysts believe the defections are not yet finalized. They argue that if a credible coalition emerges with a strong candidate—particularly from the South-South region—the defecting governors may find themselves on the wrong side of history, as the region is traditionally unfriendly to the APC.

Tinubu’s Strategic Moves to Reclaim the North

Meanwhile, in a bid to shore up northern support ahead of 2027, President Tinubu is expected to hold high-level meetings this weekend in London with a powerful opposition figure from Kano and an influential traditional ruler from the state. The meeting, allegedly brokered by Senate President Akpabio, is part of a broader plan to re-establish the president’s political foothold in the north.

A second meeting involving a former Nigerian president, who also wields considerable influence in the northern political arena, is reportedly in the works. Tinubu and his inner circle believe that securing this elder statesman’s backing could significantly swing northern votes in their favor come 2027.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that he wanted the removal of Siminalayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State.

This was as he backed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in the oil-rich state.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu and members of the House of Assembly were suspended by Tinubu following months of political crisis in Rivers State.

But Wike while speaking on Friday in Abuja during a media parley with select journalists, said the president’s move saved Rivers from implosion, arguing that the decision to appoint a sole administrator following Fubara’s suspension was a step in the right direction.

Wike declared N13 billion Monthly IGR, Fubara said no it is N28 billion - Teriah

Opunabo Inko Tariah, a former aide to ex-Governor Nyesom Wike, said the political crisis in Rivers State is mainly about the state’s treasury. He said Governor Siminalayi Fubara has not borrowed any money since taking office, yet has executed 54 major projects. He said the sole administrator of Rivers, Ibas, also confirmed that the projects were well funded and properly executed.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Silverbird TV , Tariah said Governor Fubara revealed the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) is actually about 28 billion naira every month, not 13 billion naira as previously claimed by his predecessor, Wike.

In Tariah’s words: “This is a governor that has not borrowed a Kobo, they met over 200 billion naira in our account. Governor Fubara’s predecessor said the IGR of Rivers was 13 billion naira every month, Siminalayi Fubara said no, what we receive monthly is about 28 billion naira. So it is all about the treasury”

Politics‘jesus Hates Poverty’: Pastors Knock Ibiyeomie Over Controversial Sermon by Truths9ja(op): 12:58pm On Apr 19, 2025
The founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has been criticised by the Christian Association of Nigeria and popular Nigerian cleric Pastor Abel Damina over his sermon that Jesus Christ hates poverty and never associated with the poor during His time on earth.

OSUN DEFENDER reports that Ibiyeomie, in a viral video on social media, was seen telling his congregation that Jesus never visited any poor person’s home, which he interpreted as a sign of divine disapproval of poverty.

He argued that remaining in poverty after coming to Christ reflected a lack of spiritual understanding.

He further stated that Christ’s death and resurrection were not only to bring salvation but also to free believers from poverty.

“Jesus never visited any poor person in his house, that means He hates poverty. Check your Bible, He visited Lazarus, they were not poor, they were givling him food. He visited a sinner called Zacchaeus who was rich, tell me one poor man that Jesus entered his house, He hates poverty, that is the meaning.

“He (Jesus) hates people who are poor. He died for you not to be poor, so how can you now come into church having that kind of mentality. You can become poor, but you are not permitted to remain poor. Nothing is wrong with you coming to Christ as a poor man, but it is wrong for you to remain poor,” Ibiyeomie told the congregation.

Reacting to the sermon, the founder of Power City International Ministry, Damina, in a video mocked Ibiyeomie’s interpretation, calling it a distortion of biblical truth.

Damina described Ibiyeomie as a “prosperity monger and money lover.”

He called on Ibiyeomie to stop “insulting the sensibilities of the scripture” and misleading his congregation.

“How can Jesus hate poor people? We know the grace of our Lord Jesus. He was rich, yet for your sake, He became poor. He identified with poor people. He became poor that you, through his poverty, may be rich and the rich is not material richness. It is riches of grace, mercy, and his righteousness.”

“Jesus identified with the poor even in his birth. He was born in a manger, in a family of poor parents – Joseph, the carpenter, and Mary. If He hates poor people, he should have come through the house of Bill Gates or through the house of Elon Musk, but He came through an old poor carpenter family,” Damina said.

Also reacting, the Lagos State chairman of CAN, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, dismissed Ibiyeomie’s claim, describing it as an insult to biblical truth.

He labelled the pastor’s sermon as dangerous distortion of Christ’s mission , stating that it is “loose talk” and “a misrepresentation of sound biblical teaching that has no place in true Christian doctrine.

Adegbite who spoke with Saturday PUNCH in a telephone interview, warned Christians not to be misled by the teachings of what he called “fake pastors” who prioritise wealth over truth.

“He (Ibiyeomie) should not be misleading people and he should tell people the truth and nothing but the truth. For us, Jesus is a lover of the poor, and he identified with them, and that is one of the reasons why He came into the world.

“By their fruits, we shall know them. They (pastors) can make anything, they can make billions, that is not Christianity, that is not the faith that we know. The message Jesus wants us to preach is about salvation because that is whole essence of Christ coming,” Adegbite said.

Buhari’s Nepotism Was Worse Than Tinubu’s – Shehu Sani

Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has responded to accusations of nepotism against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that the level of nepotism under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government was even worse.

Tinubu has recently faced criticism for his perceived skewed appointments, which many believe favours the South Western region of the country.

Northern politicians, in particular, have voiced their discontent, with Borno South Senator Ali Ndume accusing the president of failing to maintain an inclusive government. According to Ndume, Tinubu’s political appointments disregard the federal character principle.

However, Sani dismissed these accusations, claiming that Buhari’s administration was far more nepotistic. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, Sani questioned the nation’s short memory, urging Nigerians to reflect on the nepotism that occurred during Buhari’s time in office.

“It is clear the nation has a very short memory, and then we simply forget what happened the last time Buhari was in power. What was the profile of nepotism at that time?” he asked.

Sani then went on to highlight how many of Buhari’s key appointments were from his home state of Katsina.

He listed several key positions held by individuals from the state during Buhari’s tenure, noting the concentration of power in one region.

“The DG of SSS, Daura was from Katsina state, the DG of NIA, Rufai was from Katsina state, the MPA, my sister Hadiza, she’s from Katsina state, Director of Federal Mortgage Bank, Katsina state, SMEDAN, Katsina state, FRCN Katsina state, NIMET Katsina state, NIMASA Katsina state, Railway Corporation, Katsina state, all those things, you don’t talk of Chairman of federal civil service about 30 (of them) We don’t have time, I can state all of them. All from Katsina state,” he said.

Sani also pointed out that many military and para-military appointments under Buhari were predominantly given to individuals from the northern region.

He listed top positions, such as the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Navy Staff, and Inspector General of Police, all of whom were from the north.

“At a certain time in this country, the Controller General of Immigration, which is Babendede, is from northern Nigeria. Customs, Hamid Ali is from northern Nigeria, Civil Defense, Audi is from northern Nigeria, Chairman of Federal Road Safety Corps is from northern Nigeria. Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba is from northern Nigeria, the Chief of Navy staff, the Chief of Army Staff, they’re all from northern Nigeria. We have had all these things here, and you have never had any person from the south of part of the country raising issues,” Sani argued.

The former senator also suggested that many northern politicians now criticizing Tinubu’s appointments were doing so out of personal grievances with his government, rather than genuine concerns about fairness.

He questioned the credibility of those who remained silent when Buhari’s nepotism benefitted them but now raised their voices because they felt excluded.

“I will appreciate the morality of your position if I can hear your voice when you’re on man from your tribe , from your ethnic group and from your own tribal identity by perpetrating those evil attitude against it. And when you keep quiet when it favored you, and now you speak out when it doesn’t favor you,” Sani said.

He acknowledged that two wrongs do not make a right, but warned President Tinubu to be cautious, urging him not to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor just because Buhari’s government had filled key positions with individuals from the same region.

2-1 Defeat: ‘No Problem’ If Real Madrid Replaces Me – Ancelotti

Real Madrid coach, Carlo Ancelotti has accepted that the club may look to replace him as coach after Arsenal knocked out the Champions League holders in the quarter-finals on Wednesday.

The Italian oversaw a 2-1 home defeat with the Gunners progressing 5-1 on aggregate to the semi-finals.

Real Madrid suffered their 12th defeat of the season, by contrast to just two across the whole of the previous campaign.

“It could be that the club decide to change (coach), it could be this year — or the next when my contract expires, there’s no problem,” Ancelotti told reporters.

“The day that I leave here I can only thank the club.

“It could be tomorrow, in 10 days, in a month or a year, but all I can do will be to thank the club — if my contract’s up or not, I don’t care.”

Madrid have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, who played for Los Blancos, and former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Ancelotti said his team were still in the fight for La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup this summer.

“The team gave everything in terms of attitude , but we weren’t able to do it,” said Ancelotti after the Arsenal defeat.

“To be honest Arsenal defended very well, we found it hard to find space, in terms of intensity we were better but it was not enough.”

Osun PDP, Adeleke No Longer Trust Me – Rep Wole Oke Seeks Advice On What To Do

A lawmaker representing the Obokun/Oriade federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Oluwole Oke, says the Osun State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state are undermining his personality and political influence in the state.

In a video he shared on WhatsApp groups addressing his constituents, the lawmaker lamented that he is now seen as the enemy of the state government.

Oke said he has been a member of the PDP since 1998, and he has never defected even when some leaders of the party left. “I stayed behind, nurtured and financed the party to greatness,” he said.

Oke said he supported Governor Ademola Adeleke to become Osun West Senator in 2017 but regretted that the governor and the PDP in the state no longer value his contribution or political relevance.

“I supported my incumbent governor to become senator of our party. I offended so many people just because I wanted the party to capture power in the state.

“But today, what is the story? I’m the enemy of the government; I’m the enemy of the party.

“The purpose of nurturing this party is to enable my followers, my constituents, to also benefit from it, to become councillors, chairmen of councils, secretaries to the local government and all that. That’s the purpose of my endurance with the government.

“But what do I get in return? I have seen invaders who never knew how we started this process and are spewing all sorts of stories and unfortunately, the government of the state is believing them and that is the painful aspect of it.

“I want all of you to advise me, in a situation where you are not trusted, where your opinion does not count, where your advice is not taken into consideration, and where you are undermined, please advise me: what do you think I should do?” he asked.

Of late, Oke has criticised some of Adeleke’s actions, including the state government’s petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The lawmaker told the anti-graft agency to disregard the government’s petition against former Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Osun State Government had petitioned the EFCC to investigate the immediate past governor and current Minister of Blue Economy, Oyetola, over the alleged misappropriation of a $20m World Bank health grant.
