Fubara will surely win the battle in the end.
Politics2027: Wike Rules Out Fubara by Truths9ja(op):
From Mike Odiegwu, Port Harcourt
The battle lines for the 2027 governorship race in Rivers State may have been drawn.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, fired an early and decisive shot.

In a blunt and characteristically combative declaration, the former governor ruled out any possibility of backing his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, for a second term.

Wike spoke during a pre-convention meeting with some Rivers APC delegates at his Abuja residence, where he made it clear that no pressure, inducement or political manoeuvring would make him repeat what he described as the “mistake” of 2023.

reconciliation or future alliance, Wike said he had learned hard lessons from his decision to support Fubara’s emergence as governor and would not be swayed again.

He said: “No amount of blackmail, no amount of intimidation will make me repeat the same mistake I made before.

“If anybody is bringing money to you, it is your business. I don’t know how long I will live on this earth, but I will not make that mistake again.”

The minister, who has repeatedly expressed regret over his role in Fubara’s emergence, blamed the current political crisis in Rivers on what he described as betrayal and ingratitude.

The once-close political allies have since fallen out, plunging the state into prolonged instability marked by factional battles and institutional tensions.

Wike also issued a stern warning to politicians allegedly using his name to advance their governorship ambitions ahead of 2027.

He cautioned that such individuals were acting on their own and should not drag him into their political calculations.

He said: “Don’t go and entangle yourself with anybody saying he wants to run for governorship.

“Some people are parading themselves, forming groups – Ijaw groups, Ogoni groups, Ikwerre groups – using my name. Continue to group yourselves, but I see all of you and I’m marking you.”

He urged members of his political family to remain cautious, safeguard their resources and avoid being misled by opportunistic politicians.

Wike declared: “My fight is not an easy one. I don’t need to win, but I will make sure that before you come out, there is no remedy. So be careful. Hold your money and pray for God to choose you.”

Taking a swipe at those allegedly funding online campaigns against him, Wike maintained that he was unfazed by opposition and even thrived in political battles.

He said: “If you want to fight me, it is okay. Without a fight, I can’t survive.

“But I want somebody who, when he leaves office, will still appreciate those who helped him, not someone who will bring in new people to fight us.”

The minister also praised members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule, for what he described as their resilience and loyalty.

According to him, the lawmakers chose to endure hardship, including going without salaries, rather than betray their political convictions.

Shortly after Wike’s remarks, Bomah Iyaye distanced himself from reports suggesting he had declared interest in the governorship race or secured the minister’s endorsement.

In a statement, Iyaye described the reports as inaccurate and misleading, insisting that he remained focused on his responsibilities at the NDDC.

“My attention has been drawn to reports circulating on social media suggesting that I have declared an ambition for the office of Governor of Rivers State and have been endorsed by the Honourable Minister,” he said. “These reports are not true and do not reflect my position.”

He clarified that he had neither made any formal declaration nor received endorsement from Wike or any other political figure.

“I remain fully committed to my duties as Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the NDDC, working with stakeholders to advance sustainable development in the Niger Delta,” he added.

Also, uncertainty continues to surround Governor Fubara’s political future, particularly regarding his intention to seek a second term.

His silence has fueled speculation that he may have shelved re-election plans.

However, a source close to the governor dismissed such claims, saying Fubara would soon make his position known.

The aide, who spoke in confidence, maintained that Fubara remained a strong political force in the state and enjoyed considerable goodwill within the APC’s national leadership.

According to the source, the governor is still being considered a viable candidate to fly the party’s flag in 2027, despite the ongoing rift with his predecessor.

CyynthiaKiss:
JUST IN: U.S. Congressman Riley Moore Submits Report to White House on Christian Killings in Nigeria - Aid Cuts, Sanctions and Visa Bans on the Table

U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore (R–West Virginia) has formally presented a congressional report to the White House detailing policy measures to address the killing of Christians and the escalation of extremist violence in Nigeria.

The submission follows President Donald Trump’s redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) for severe violations of religious freedom and comes after a months-long bipartisan investigation that included a fact-finding visit to Nigeria, congressional hearings, consultations with religious leaders, meetings with Internally Displaced Persons, and engagements with senior Nigerian government officials.

The report recommends negotiating a bilateral U.S.–Nigeria security agreement to protect vulnerable communities and dismantle jihadist networks, conditioning certain U.S. assistance on measurable action by Nigerian authorities, imposing targeted sanctions and visa restrictions on individuals linked to persecution, and providing technical support to counter armed Fulani militant groups.

It also calls for a review of Sharia and blasphemy laws cited in several persecution cases and urges coordinated diplomatic pressure with allies including the United Kingdom, France, and Hungary.

Moore said the investigation was informed by what lawmakers witnessed on the ground in Nigeria and stressed that deeper security cooperation with the United States would strengthen bilateral relations and improve stability.

The report builds on earlier congressional actions, including H.Res. 866 and the proposed Nigeria Religious Freedom and Accountability Act of 2026, and signals the possibility of further U.S. diplomatic and financial measures if there is no concrete progress.

The White House has not yet issued an official response, while reactions from Nigerian authorities are expected.

ress Release: Congressman Riley M. Moore Presents Official Report to the White House with Solutions to End Christian Persecution in Nigeria

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Riley M. Moore joined members of the House Committees on Appropriations and Foreign Affairs at the White House to formally present the comprehensive report outlining concrete actions to end the persecution of Christians in Nigeria and counter growing extremist violence in the region.

The meeting follows President Trump’s redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) on October 31, 2025. President Trump requested Congressman Moore and Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to lead a comprehensive investigation on the persecution against Christian communities and security challenges plaguing Nigeria. This report is the result of months of investigation, including a bipartisan congressional fact-finding trip to Nigeria, hearings with expert witnesses, consultations with religious leaders, meetings with Internally Displaced Persons, and engagement with senior Nigerian government officials.

The official report outlines several key recommendations, including:

- Establishing a bilateral U.S.–Nigeria security agreement to protect vulnerable Christian communities and dismantle jihadist networks.

- Withholding certain U.S. funds, pending demonstrable action by the Nigerian government to stop violence against Christians.

- Implementing sanctions and visa restrictions against individuals and groups responsible for or complicit in religious persecution.

- Providing technical support to the Nigerian government to eliminate violence from armed Fulani militias.

- Demanding the repeal of Sharia and blasphemy laws

- Working with international partners including France, Hungary, and the United Kingdom

Congressman Riley M. Moore released the following statement:

“Following today’s productive meeting at the White House, I want to thank President Trump for redesignating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern and for his Administration’s commitment to protecting our brothers and sisters in Christ from persecution and addressing the broader security challenges plaguing Nigeria. Since President Trump redesignated Nigeria as a CPC and tasked me to lead a Congressional investigation, I have worked diligently with my colleagues to produce the report we presented today. I also want to thank House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, Vice Chair Mario Diaz-Balart, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast and Congressman Chris Smith for their leadership on this comprehensive investigation and delivering this report to the White House.

I traveled on a bipartisan delegation to Nigeria and saw with my own eyes the horrific atrocities Christians face, and the instability the Nigerian government must combat. Through Congressional hearings, expert testimony, meeting with Internally Displaced People, hearing from religious leaders, and engaging with high-level Nigerian government officials, we have provided a clear picture of the threat environment in Nigeria and the horrific persecution Christians face. This report outlines concrete steps to impose accountability measures, counter radical Islamic terrorism, and lays out a plan to work in coordination and cooperation with the Nigerian government to bring security to all the people of Nigeria.

Our brothers and sisters in Christ have suffered in silence for too long. The world is now watching, and I urge the Nigerian government to take the opportunity to deepen and strengthen its relationship with the United States. Doing so is in the interest of both our great nations. Together, we must address these pressing security challenges and bring an end to violence against Christians.”

FACTCHECK: How Adeleke Lied About Previous Govt Intervention On Cooperative Societies

Aregbesola, Buhari Provided Grants, Loans To Cooperatives — Findings
We Have Disbursed More Than N2bn, Committed N4bn – Adeleke
Recent claims by Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, that no government had supported cooperative societies in the state since 1952 are inconsistent with records of interventions carried out by both the immediate past state administration and the Federal Government.

Governor Adeleke had on Tuesday, during an event where the Osun State Cooperative Movement endorsed his second-term bid, stated that the last time cooperatives received government grants was in 1952 and that his administration had now approved nearly ₦4 billion, with about ₦2 billion already disbursed.

He said, “They claim to be Awolowo’s people, yet they worked against the people all the way. The last time a government gave grants to the cooperative movement was in 1952. We came in and we approved almost N4 billion naira and disbursed almost Two Billion naira as at now.”

However, documents and programme records obtained from findings by OSUN DEFENDER show that the administration of former governor Rauf Aregbesola (2010–2018) implemented multiple financial and institutional initiatives targeted at strengthening cooperative societies across Osun State.

It was gathered that under the Osun Quick Impact Intervention Programme (QUIIP), the Aregbesola government channelled significant funds to farmers through cooperative structures. Records show that QUIIP I disbursed about ₦164.9 million to 77 farmers’ cooperative groups, while QUIIP II delivered ₦686.8 million to 419 groups, bringing the total to approximately ₦851.7 million in agricultural loans to 496 cooperative societies.

Beyond credit facilities, official records indicate that more than 16,000 registered cooperative societies benefited from grants aimed at boosting local enterprise and wealth creation.

The administration also formalised the cooperative ecosystem by registering roughly 24,000 societies, bringing artisans, traders and farmers into structured associations to enable access to finance and government-backed programmes.

Institutionally, the government created the office of a Special Adviser on Cooperative Matters led by Mr. Gbenga Awosode and facilitated partnerships with First Bank of Nigeria Limited to expand agricultural financing for cooperative members, enabling them to procure tools and improve productivity.

At the federal level, the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari also implemented social investment schemes that reached cooperative members and grassroots traders in Osun and other states through Federal Government of Nigeria initiatives.

OSUN DEFENDER recalls that programmes such as TraderMoni and MarketMoni, executed under the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), provided micro-credit facilities ranging from ₦10,000 to ₦50,000 to petty traders, market women and artisans.

These interventions formed a key component of the Federal Government’s post-2016 economic inclusion strategy and were widely deployed through cooperative and market associations nationwide.

Analysts who spoke noted that while Adeleke’s ongoing disbursement to cooperatives and the establishment of a dedicated Ministry of Cooperatives represent a continuation of support for the sector, the assertion that there had been no grants or assistance since 1952 does not align with documented state and federal programmes implemented over the past decade.

Available records therefore indicate that cooperative societies in Osun have benefited from sustained layers of intervention, including grants, soft loans, institutional partnerships and formalisation policies prior to the current administration.
