PoliticsHouse of Reps passes State Police Bill by Truths9ja(op): 4:05pm On Jun 11
The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a constitutional amendment bill to establish state police nationwide.

The passage marks a significant step in Nigeria’s long-running debate over decentralising policing and tackling insecurity.

The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 to Provide for the Establishment of State Police; and for Related Matters (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026,” was approved during consideration at the Committee of the Whole, presided over by Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.

The voting commenced after the Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Constitution Review, Benjamin Kalu, presented arguments in support of the proposal and urged lawmakers to back the measure.

The exercise was conducted manually, with members raising their hands to indicate their positions.

At the end of the count, about 288 lawmakers voted in support of the bill, while four members voted against it.

The proposed amendment seeks to fundamentally restructure policing in Nigeria by creating both Federal and State Police formations.

One of the key provisions of the bill alters Section 214 of the Constitution to establish the Federal Police and State Police formally.

Under the proposal, the National Assembly would be empowered to prescribe the structure, organisation, administration and powers of the Federal Police, while also providing the framework and guidelines for the establishment of state police services.

The bill stipulates that no state police formation shall commence operations unless it is established through a law passed by the relevant State House of Assembly and certified as meeting national minimum standards prescribed by an Act of the National Assembly.

It further provides that until a state police force becomes operational, the Federal Police will continue to perform policing functions in that state.

The amendment also seeks to limit federal interference in the operations of state police.

Under the proposal, the Federal Police may only intervene in a state’s internal security affairs in cases of a complete breakdown of law and order, upon the request of a governor, or where a state police force becomes unable to function due to administrative, financial or other challenges.

The bill also proposes significant changes to the appointment and command structure of the police.

Under the amended Section 215, the Inspector-General of Police would be appointed by the President on the advice of the National Police Council from among serving members of the Federal Police, subject to confirmation by the National Assembly.

Similarly, a State Commissioner of Police would be appointed by a governor on the advice of the National Police Council from among serving members of the State Police, subject to confirmation by the State House of Assembly.

The proposal empowers governors to issue lawful directives to State Commissioners of Police on matters relating to public safety and order.

However, where a commissioner believes such directives are unlawful or inconsistent with accepted policing standards, the matter may be referred to the National Police Council, whose decision would be final.

The bill also amends Section 84 of the Constitution by replacing references to the “National Police Council and the Federal Police Service Commission” with the “Nigeria Police Council and the Police Service Commission.”

The proposal, however, will still require approval by the Senate and endorsement by at least two-thirds of the State Houses of Assembly, assented to by the President before it can become part of the Constitution.

JUST IN: We Are Not Afraid’ – Omisore Loyalists Dùmp APC In Osun

June 6, 2026

A former Commissioner for Political Affairs and Inter-Governmental Relations in Osun State, Taiwo Akeju, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Akeju served under former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and is believed to be a loyalist of former APC National Secretary, Iyiola Omisore.

Akeju’s resignation came alongside those of two other APC chieftains, Jamiu Olawumi and Chief Sunday Ojo-Williams.

Olawumi served as Special Adviser on Education during Oyetola’s administration and was also spokesperson for the Omisore Campaign Organisation.

In his resignation letter, Akeju said his decision took immediate effect.

“I hereby resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress. Please note that this resignation takes immediate effect. This decision is personal and is taken after considering my political journey,” he wrote.

Three other APC chieftains who supported Omisore ahead of the party’s December 2025 governorship primary reportedly resigned earlier in the week.

They are former Osun State House of Assembly members Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare and Folorunso Oladoyin.

Bakare and Oladoyin also served in Oyetola’s cabinet as Special Adviser on Lands and Commissioner for Education, respectively.

Reacting, Osun APC spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said the party was not bothered by the resignations.

“We are indifferent. At a period like this, some people will go while some will come,” he said.

According to The PUNCH, Olabisi argued that the party had gained more members than it had lost, citing the defection of senators, House of Representatives members and other political figures into the APC.

“Fear is not in our dictionary. We are not afraid, we are not jittery,” he added.

Christianity EtcMountain Of Fire: MFM Suspends Vigils Nationwide Over Security Concerns by Truths9ja(op): 7:02pm On Jun 05
The leadership of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has directed all its branches and ministries across Nigeria to suspend vigils and ensure that all church programmes end by 8:00 pm until further notice, citing prevailing security challenges in the country.

The directive was contained in an internal circular dated June 5, 2026, and signed by the Director of Administration (International Headquarters and Nigeria), Temitope A. Olawale.

According to the circular, the precautionary measures were introduced to safeguard members and church workers amid growing security concerns nationwide.

The church instructed all Principal Regional Overseers, Senior Regional Overseers, Mega Regional Overseers, Zonal Pastors, Branch Pastors, and other church leaders to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

Under the new measures, all church services, meetings, programmes and activities at every level of the ministry are to be concluded no later than 8:00 pm.

The leadership also announced the suspension of vigils, overnight prayer meetings, and similar programmes across all branches until further notice.

However, the ministry stated that where necessary, vigils could be converted into evening prayer programmes, provided they end on or before 8:00 p.m.

MFM explained that the decision was taken solely as a precautionary measure and was not intended to disrupt worship activities but rather to protect the lives and well-being of members in light of the country’s security situation.

The circular further directed Mega Regional Overseers to ensure that the information is communicated to all regions, zones, branches, and relevant departments under their supervision for immediate implementation.

The directive takes immediate effect and will remain in force pending further review by the church leadership.

The court reportedly explain say the lower court no suppose recognise the Caretaker Committee because that issue no form part of the case before am.

The Appeal Court further note say the proper thing for such situation for be retrial. However, since the main issue don become academic after the Supreme Court judgment, ordering retrial no go serve any useful purpose.

The court also uphold the suspension of A.K. Ajibade and, by extension, other affected officials including Sam Anyanwu.

The PDP Interim National Working Committee say the latest Appeal Court decision effectively nullify the earlier judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, wey the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) use as basis to recognise the Caretaker Committee.

Following the ruling, the party urged INEC to immediately withdraw recognition from the Caretaker Committee and instead recognise the duly constituted Interim National Working Committee led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN).

The development marks another chapter in the leadership crisis rocking the opposition party as different factions continue to battle for control ahead of future political activities and elections.

Bobloco:
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State under Chief Emeka Beke has declared all activities, nominations and decisions carried out by the Tony Okocha-led faction invalid following a recent Court of Appeal judgment that affirmed Beke as the authentic chairman of the party in the state.

The development comes days after the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt upheld an earlier judgment that recognized Beke as the lawful chairman of the Rivers APC and nullified the congresses that brought Okocha and his executive committee into office.

Reacting to the judgment, the Beke-led leadership said every action taken by the rival faction between December 20, 2024, and May 29, 2026, lacks legal backing and cannot stand.

In a statement released by the party’s spokesman, Darlington Nwauju, the leadership insisted that all political decisions, nominations, official correspondences and documents issued during the period by the Okocha faction are now invalid.

According to the statement, any representation made on behalf of the Rivers APC under the disputed leadership structure has no legal effect following the court ruling.

The declaration is expected to have far-reaching consequences for the party in Rivers State, particularly regarding candidates and political processes conducted under the Okocha-led executive.

Several governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly aspirants who emerged through exercises supervised by the faction may now face uncertainty over their political future as the legitimacy of those processes comes under fresh scrutiny.

The Beke leadership also called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC to urgently review all records connected to the disputed primaries and other decisions taken by the Okocha group.

The faction warned that failure to address the situation promptly could expose the party to legal challenges capable of affecting its electoral fortunes in future elections.

Party officials pointed to previous experiences in other states where internal disputes over candidate nominations eventually led to the loss of electoral victories through court rulings.

Beyond the issue of party primaries, the leadership further urged the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) to withdraw certificates issued to local government chairmen and councillors elected during the August 2025 local government elections conducted under the disputed structure

The family of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, former Minister of Power and leading gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, wishes to formally confirm the unfortunate kidnapping of his younger sister, Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her twin sons, Peter and Paul, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Mrs. John-Paul, aged 43, was reportedly abducted by armed gunmen at about 7:30 a.m. while on her way to drop her children at school in Ibadan. The abductors also forcefully took away her 12-year-old twin sons who were with her at the time of the incident.

Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs. Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. Until her voluntary retirement last year, she had served meritoriously at both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian. Immediately the incident was reported, all relevant security and law enforcement agencies were duly contacted. We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime.

Chief Adebayo Adelabu and the entire family are deeply distressed by this tragic development but remain hopeful and confident in the capacity of the security agencies to secure the safe release of Mrs. John-Paul and her children.

The family respectfully appeals to members of the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and refrain from circulating unverified information that may jeopardize ongoing security operations. We also solicit prayers and support from well-meaning Nigerians during this difficult period.
