To me, I feel ADC would have been better so that it can cajole local opposition political bigwigs like Ameachi who have already moved there to join the course and fight for the freedom of Rivers along side with the governor...

This is because as it stands only the governor can't do it ..if he campaigns publicly for NDC, APC will label him anti party and begin his impeachment...

He needs a fearsome political leaders in the state who want what he wants...yes! Peter Obi effect will galvanize the youth to move towards NDC, but Obi will not be Keen on Rivers local politics like her own bigwig politicians...

House of Representative Member Kingsley Ogundu Chinda has emerged as APC Governorship candidate for Rivers state.

The APC Governorship primaries committee announced the emergence of Chinda at the State Party Secretariat in Port Harcourt.
Chinda polled 268,497 votes to emerge candidate.

Yesterday, incumbent Governor Sim Fubara, Alabo George-Kelly and Tonye Cole announced their withdrawal from the primaries leaving Chinda as the only aspirant.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Isah Ahmed, lays bare a deepening leadership crisis widely linked to Atiku’s inability to steady the party amid spiralling internal conflicts, multiple litigations and a hemorrhaging membership base.

Afresh crisis has rocked the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa, the home turf of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as a High Court in Yola nullified the party’s state congresses just six days to a critical deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The ruling, delivered by Justice Isah Ahmed, lays bare a deepening leadership crisis widely linked to Atiku’s inability to steady the party amid spiralling internal conflicts, multiple litigations and a hemorrhaging membership base.

The court declared the congresses “null and void,” citing blatant violations of Section 84(4) of the Electoral Act and Article 18 of the ADC Constitution.

The judge slammed party officials for abandoning due process in favour of what he described as “self-imposed procedures,” reinforcing concerns that the ADC has become a theatre of impunity rather than internal democracy.

The lawsuit, filed by state chairman Comrade Shehu Yohanna, exposed the festering divisions within the party. His claims that the congresses defied both legal and constitutional provisions were upheld, delivering a crushing judicial indictment of the party’s leadership structure.

But the courtroom defeat is only part of the crisis.

Insiders say the ADC in Adamawa is collapsing under the weight of legal uncertainty and leadership failure.

More than 80 percent of its members are believed to have defected in recent weeks, fleeing what critics describe as a toxic environment marked by disregard for court orders and persistent factional warfare.

The fallout has been brutal and politically costly.

Former allies of Atiku, including Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, have walked away, leading a mass defection into the emerging Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

Meanwhile, Senator Ishaku Abbo has also exited, aligning with the Labour Party in a further blow to the ADC’s crumbling structure.

What remains of the party in Adamawa is widely seen as a shell, fractured and struggling for relevance in the face of mounting legal setbacks and political desertion.

INEC’s deadline for political parties to submit updated membership registers and leadership lists — typically tied to pre-election compliance timelines — now looms large.

Failure to meet such requirements risks further complications, including potential disqualification from key electoral processes.

While INEC periodically issues specific dates depending on the electoral cycle, such deadlines are binding and strictly enforced, leaving little room for parties entangled in internal disputes.

Ayade Kicks As Tinubu ‘Asked Him To Step Down’ From 2027 Senate Race

Former governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu directed him to withdraw from the forthcoming 2027 Senate race in his home State, a request he said he has accepted despite deep personal anguish.

In a statement posted on his verified Facebook page on Monday, Ayade said he was invited to Abuja for a high-level consultation with the Presidency, after which he was asked to shelve his ambition.

“From the sequence of events that followed my return, Mr President wants me to withhold my Senate ambition. I yield to his request even as I pour tears of ill treatment and agony,” he said.

The former governor, however, expressed concern that the President may not be fully aware of the political dynamics in Cross River State, alleging that those benefiting from the directive were previously opposed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its leadership in the state.

“Mr President may not be aware that the people who turned our churches against Ayade and all of us in APC over the Muslim-Muslim ticket and accused us of islamisation of Cross River State are the beneficiaries of his instruction,” he stated.

Ayade further alleged that some of the individuals now favoured had previously engaged in violent acts during the 2023 elections.

“Mr President may not be aware that the beneficiaries of his order are people armed against us with guns and machetes in the collation centres (police records available) on the day of Mr President’s election,” he claimed.

Highlighting his contributions to the APC, Ayade noted that he was the first governor from the South-South region to join and build the party’s structure in Cross River State.

“I was the first APC Governor in the whole of South South Nigeria that built the new APC that we enjoy today. I worked assiduously for the party and delivered almost 40,000 votes above PDP in the Presidential election, first in the history of our State,” he said.

He also lamented what he described as years of political marginalisation.

“For over three years, I have been sidelined without appointment. I donated generously to the National Convention, gave out vehicles and motorbikes to the party,” he added.

Despite his grievances, Ayade urged his supporters to remain calm and loyal to the party, stressing that he would not act in defiance of the President’s directive.

“Let us tarry and honour Mr President even as we still appeal for the review of his order,” he said.

He also instructed his supporters not to purchase nomination forms for the Senate race for now, citing respect for constituted authority.

“On the issue of purchase of form, I suggest that my supporters should not buy the form as I’ll be guilty of going against the order of Mr President,” he said.

Ayade, who served as governor from 2015 to 2023, expressed hope that the decision would be reconsidered, maintaining that his political future remains guided by faith and destiny.

“I believe in destiny and the hand of God,” he said, recalling that he had previously stepped down from political contests in 2007 and 2015 before later becoming a senator and a two-term governor.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the APC and support for its candidates in future elections, even as he appealed for fairness.

“I dare not question his authority but I challenge his conscience. I genuinely worked for him and I therefore deserve a place in his administration,” Ayade said.

A former Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Alabo Dakorinama George Kelly, has been endorsed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as his preferred candidate for the Rivers State governorship.


George is expected to contest the seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a crucial political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sources told DAILY POST that Wike settled for George after a closed-door meeting with key political stakeholders in Port Harcourt on Monday. The meeting reportedly reviewed the political situation in the state and strategies for consolidating influence ahead of the next election cycle.


At the meeting were ex-militant leaders, including Asari Dokubo and Ateke Tom.

Our source said their attendance underscored the high-level consultations that preceded the endorsement.


George, a seasoned political figure in Rivers State, previously served as Commissioner for Works and is considered a loyalist within Wike’s political structure.

The source who witnessed the meeting said the development was part of efforts to maintain Wike’s political dominance in the state despite his current role at the federal level.

This comes against the backdrop of a protracted political crisis in Rivers State, driven by a bitter power struggle between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged political godfather, Nyesom Wike.


Since assuming office, Fubara has gradually distanced himself from Wike’s influence, leading to deep divisions within the state’s political structure, including the State House of Assembly and local government leadership.

The rift has triggered a series of political confrontations, alignments, and realignments, with both camps battling for control of the party machinery and governance structures in the state.

Efforts by President Bola Tinubu to broker peace between the two camps have so far yielded limited results, as tensions continue to simmer.


According to the source, “Wike’s endorsement of George is a strategic move to reassert control and shape the political future of Rivers State ahead of 2027,” he said.

Oga rest NDC as an association applied for registration as a party in 2017. INEC refused to register them after satisfying all required conditions. Mahmoud led INEC said NDC "V" logo looked like APC broom. NDC went to court and the court overrode INEC's objections, hence INEC registered NDC based on court order.
Importantly my dear friend, INEC has lost the rights to appeal the judgement as the time has lapsed.

As one of the inner caucus member of the Obidient Movement and someone close to His Excellency Mr Peter Obi, I will love to set some records straight on Nairaland for Nigerians, especially the youths who frequent Nairaland.


It won't be nice for us to leave you guys in the dark on what is happening in Nigerian politics of today.


Before I begin, let me make it clear to you all that Mr Peter Obi did not leave ADC because of Atiku Abubakar or whatever Primaries APC lapdogs have been peddling on the internet.


Mr Peter Obi left ADC because ADC is politically dead, all thanks to Nigeria's current regime using judiciary to destroy opposition parties that stand chance of challenging Tinubu and APC come 2027.


The target of the destabilization of opposition parties is Mr Peter Obi, the only opposition politician that Tinubu, his entire Presidential team and APC fear, and you know why?

They are very much aware that Mr Peter Obi won 2023 Presidential election despite contesting on a very unknown party without a single political heavyweight or serving government official. They don't want to give any room for chances anymore because they are now more scared of Peter Obi than they were prior to 2023, and you know why they are more scared of Mr Peter Obi?


1.) Peter Obi have gained more popularity, credibility and support base in far Northern Nigeria that they lied he never got a vote in.


2.) Tinubu's failure is making them jittery of giving Peter Obi a chance to contest against Tinubu, they know that Nigerians are completely fed up of Tinubu and APC and would definitely throw their full weight behind any strong opposition like Mr Peter Obi

3.) Tinubu have lost his Northern support base, all thanks to his divisive and tribalistic policies that saw him sideline his core Northern political allies that made him President, so they don't want to give chances to any strong opposition like Peter Obi so they just want to keep scattering every opposition party Peter Obi joins until they frustrate him completely and he loses out as a result of INEC timeline.



Like Peter Obi have said, he is not desperate to become President, he is a self made billionaire, a well achieved man who have also made great name for himself within and outside Nigeria. He always tell us that he just want to lay a legacy foundation for Nigeria like Nelson Mandela did for South Africa. Honestly it breaks my heart, Nigerians don't know the evil forces fighting against the prosperity of Nigeria. God wants to reposition Nigeria for good through Peter Obi but the evil forces working against Nigeria's better future are too powerful and yet many Nigerians are happy not knowing they are only shortchanging their destiny and that of their generations unborn.



Peter Obi is not even interested in governing for 8 years, he just want to do key reforms that will transform Nigeria. One of them is electoral reform that will bring an end to election rigging and manipulation in Nigeria so that the children of nobody in Nigeria can become the Governor, Senator, President of Nigeria without needing to pay allegiance to corrupt political godfathers and structures that have kept Nigeria where it is today.


If Peter Obi fails to emerge President, it is a great loss for Nigerians because you all don't know why God brought this guy up from nowhere.



So to all those saying Peter Obi left ADC because of Atiku or because he doesn't want to contest Primaries, you all are wrong, Peter Obi left ADC because Nigeria's current President and his political henchmen are using judiciary to scatter every opposition party that Peter Obi joins. They are scattering the opposition parties not because of Atiku, but because of Peter Obi their greatest nightmare, if you doubt me, watch out how ADC will become stabilized now that Peter Obi have left ADC.


Supreme Court smartly and cunningly destroyed ADC without many knowing. Referring the case back to Federal High Court was a smart yet cunning tactics to delay judgment till INEC timeline elapses and then ADC won't be able to field any Presidential candidate again. That was the game plan but we saw ahead of their gimmicks. They didn't expect Peter Obi will decamp again, they thought they would use the usual guilt-talk of tagging Peter Obi a habitual defector to hold him down in ADC until the ship finally capsize with Obi inside.
