The victim was actually someone I know. The thief is a liar because no car owner would break the passaenger's glass and tow a car which was well parked at that ungodly hour. Nice one from the Police. |

This what wikipedea has on the man.. Background[edit] Tafa Balogun was born on 8 August 1947 at Ila Orogun, now in Osun State. He attended the University of Lagos, graduating in 1972 with a B.A. in Political Science. He joined the Nigerian Police Force in May 1973. While a police officer, he gained a law degree from the University of Ibadan. After working in various positions around the country, he became Principal Staff Officer to former Inspector-General of Police, Muhammadu Gambo, then Deputy Commissioner of Police in Edo State, and then Commissioner of Police first in Delta State and then in Rivers State and Abia State. He was appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police in A.I.G Zone One Kano, the position he held when promoted to Inspector General of Police on 6 March 2002.[1][2] In November 2001, as A.I.G., Tafa Balogun reassured reporters that there were provisions to ensure the safety of businessmen in Nigeria through the called Diplomatic Corp and Foreign National Protection Unit.[3] Inspector General of Police[edit] Mustafa Adebayo Balogun became IGP in March 2002, replacing Musiliu Smith.[4] He was responsible for overall police security during the April 2003 national elections, which were marred by reports of police abuses.[5] In August 2003, Tafa Balogun presented a paper on "Nigeria: Electoral Violence and National Security" in which he advocated improvements such as use of national identity cards, mass education, electoral law reforms, citizens participation in politics, good governance and establishment of a constitutional court.[6] In December 2003, Tafa Balogun organised extensive security measures across Nigeria to ensure that there were no disturbances during the Commonwealth of Nations summit.[7] Following various incidents in 2004 where reporters were beaten and their equipment damaged by policement, Tafa Balogun made apologies and promised that those responsible would be punished.[8] Towards the end of 2004, newspapers published allegations of corruption on a massive scale, asserting that Tafa Balogun had pocketed public money and taken bribes from politicians and criminals. These led to his forced retirement in January 2005.[2] Later career[edit] On 4 April 2005, Tafa Balogun was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Abuja on charges involving about N13 billion obtained through money laundering, theft and other sources.[9] The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission under Nuhu Ribadu brought 70 charges against Tafa Balogun covering the period from 2002 to 2004.[10] He made a plea bargain with the court in exchange for returning much of the property and money.[11] He was sentenced to six months in jail.[12] He was released on 9 February 2006 after serving his sentence, part of it in Abuja National Hospital.[13] In November 2008 and again in February 2009, the Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abdul Ahmed Ningi, asked the Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro, to provide details of the money recovered from Tafa Balogun, a request that he passed on to the EFCC chairman, Mrs Farida Waziri. However, the EFCC stated that they did not have records of the exact properties recovered from Balogun.[11] It was said that some of the houses had been secretly sold to certain individuals at give-away prices.[14] In April 2009, the House of Representatives Committee on Police Affair invited Tafa Balogun, Mike Okiro and Mrs Farida Waziri to explain how the N16 billion allegedly recovered from Balogun got missing.[15] References[edit] Jump up ^ |

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, arrested the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Emeka Mba, over an alleged N15 billion fraud. Those familiar with the investigation say the EFCC had been investigating the NBC in the past one month. U S President Barack Obama has appointed a Nigerian, Adewale ‘Wally’ Adeyemo who served in top roles at the Treasury Department to succeed Caroline Atkinson as his deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs. wallyAdeyemo, 34, has served in Obama’s administration since 2009. He joined the White House’s National Economic Council as deputy director. He was the Treasury’s lead negotiator on the currency agreement that was part of the Pacific trade deal. A statement by Obama reads “For the past four years, I have relied on Caroline Atkinson, most recently as my Deputy National Security Advisor for International Economics, as we’ve navigated pressing challenges to the global economy. “As my representative at the G-7 and G-20, she played a key role in coordinating our response to international financial crises, worked with our allies to devise and implement targeted economic sanctions to advance our national security goals, played a vital role in our economic engagements with China, and helped to achieve breakthrough agreements on climate that will strengthen our economy and our security. “I’ve relied on, and benefited from, Caroline’s knowledge and judgment and, as she concludes her tenure on my national security team, I am deeply appreciative of her service. “I am grateful that Caroline’s work will be carried on by Adewale “Wally” Adeyemo, who has served in my administration since 2009. At the Treasury Department, he was part of the team that helped coordinate our response to the global recession, laying the foundation for renewed growth at home and abroad. “He helped establish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and he’s been our point person on a range of international economic issues, including negotiations on strong currency agreements around the Trans Pacific Partnership. I will be calling on Wally’s intellect, judgment and dedication as we sustain America’s global economic leadership, which reinforces our national security, and as we work with allies and partners around the world to create jobs and opportunity for all our people.” Adeyemo holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and another degree from Yale Law School. source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/obama-appoints-34-yr-old-nigerian-adewale-adeyemo-as-deputy-nsa/

What's the importance? Please don't let the front age lose it's value and relevance. |
Memorable collections. It depicts man's ingenuity in the face of man. Violence not always far away in our dealings in search for opaque peace and comfort in the world. The picture of the Japanese boy backing his dead brother reeks of innocence in the mist of distortion. |
Same ol' visit by Ministers, DGs, House Committee chairmen, Senators one even shed tears promising revamp still no change. It's just a ritual for any new appointee in Sports at the Federal level. Maybe our beret wearing minister would make a difference, not to sound too pessimistic. |

It's been 25 years since the world fell in love with the 8-year-old Kevin McCallister as he defended himself and his home from burglars in the Christmas comedy classic Home Alone. The 1990 film not only took in almost $500 million at the box office and spawned four sequels, but also launched the career of child actor Macaulay Culkin, who became a millionaire by the time he was 12 years old. Today, he is 35. But the movie wasn't the defining career moment for just one of its stars - many of the actors have found enduring fame for their parts in the holiday classic.

One man said in the film: 'We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day God willing, like France's and by God, as we struck France in the centre of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its centre in Washington.' The video emerged as thousands lined the streets of Paris for a minute's silence to remember those killed in a wave of attacks which included suicide bombs at the Stade de France, a massacre at the Bataclan theatre and mass shootings at bars and restaurants across the city. |

Seven men have been jailed for 10 years in Nigeria after being arrested with nearly 1,500 tonnes of contraband petrol, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said on Saturday. The announcement came as Africa’s number one oil producer tries to get tough with illegal oil dealers, as part of a wider crackdown on endemic corruption The seven — all of them Nigerian nationals — were among the crew of the MT Good Success, which was stopped by a navy patrol boat off the coast of Lagos in February last year, the EFCC said in a statement. On board was some 1,495 tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol/gasoline). The defendants were found guilty at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday after denying four counts of illegal oil bunkering (theft) and one of unlicenced dealing in petroleum products. Judge O.E. Abang sentenced them to 10 years in prison on each of the first four counts and two years on the fifth, to run concurrently. He described them as “lawless” and said he hoped the sentence would serve as a deterrent. The petrol on board, nearly $1.7 million (1.5 million euros) held by one of the defendants and the vessel itself were ordered to be forfeited to the Nigerian government. Nigeria produces some 1.8 million barrels of crude per day, according to the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). President Muhammadu Buhari has described the extent of oil theft in Nigeria as “mind-boggling” and estimated some 250,000 barrels of crude were stolen every day under the previous administration. But analysts agree there are no exact figures for the extent of the problem. A 2009 report called “Blood Oil in the Niger Delta” said oil is often “tapped” from pipelines or the wellhead in the oil-producing south, then transferred onto barges and taken out to sea, where it is loaded onto large ships. The report, by the United States Institute of Peace, said international crime syndicates are often involved in financing, transporting and laundering the money. Companies sometimes pump more oil than their licences allow, before it is processed at illegal refineries in a process implicating company workers and government officials. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/10/31/efcc-seven-jailed-for-fuel-theft/ |
