I totally agree with u.
Money talks. Deres gotta be alot of money expecially wen the Sponsor isnt ur father or mother. They can understnd ur parent wanting to spend deir life savings to train u, but a strict VO might not understand y a brother or uncle or family friend wud want to spend half of deir life savings on u, expecially if dey ve deir own family i.e,other dependants. Dats my own tot tho.
redribs:
@pchax I understand your concern and the idea you are proposing. Using PMs (and emails) still can work...and is safer too. Using a cloud method simply brings back same issue you are trying to address; the problem of having so many advises and not knowing which is best to choose. I am of the school of thought that "you are the best composer of your SOP" because... well, it's your purpose and not anyone else's... only thing one could need help with is how to use the words technically and properly (punctuation and grammar edits, basically) and this can be gotten from friends, family and even anonymous friends here on the forum (using PMs and email).

I have also been analysing this rampant refusals because really, it is getting worrisome ... but contrary to your idea, addressing the SOP was not even on my list (maybe I'm missing something). First thing we should understand, is that, simply listing out docs submitted does not give a true and exact picture of our file. It only gives hints and ideas. Having said that, I prefer to play within the stated reason for refusal because... well, at least it points me in a direction to start with my analysis. The only reason I suspect that can emanate from an incoherent SOP will be "purpose of visit"...and that's not as common as the baba of all the reasons; "insufficient funds". Ok, maybe the letter of explanation might explain the financial docs to a clear perspective but if anything, I think being able to display sufficient funds from a reasonable sponsor can even be self-explanatory... as per u know? MONEY TALKS na.

Been trying really hard not to drop long posts these days because I dread my medicals not coming in this part 6 but since I've started lemme just kuku finish. Pardon my long talk, I'm a very expressive guy grin. Besides it might give good insight to people that have plans to apply.

So as I was saying, financial statements, as simple as they might seem, they can tell a lot about a person's financial behaviour. (Especially for the fact that the one CIC requires is over a stretch of 6 months). People are highly trained to be able to analyse these docs. I can imagine that these VOs are ACCA professionals and stuff. I'm just trying to point out that it's possible that these VOs actually do immerse themselves in these financial docs to the extent of getting really personal. Like they can use the financial docs submitted to make out a story that they think you are trying to portray and if a confusing part of the story can not be explained, they tell you they are "not convinced". That's what I suspect really happens. I even heard (but don't quote me o) that they also contact the banks during the processing time to verify the authenticity of the financial statement and as well as the funds/balance at different times because they are legally bound. It's a plausible thought because really, why else will it take so many weeks to process an application?

In summary sha, applicants should ensure a good bidirectional flow, a reasonable balance, a reasonable sponsor, an authentic sponsor's consent and lastly, ensure that the balance remains reasonable throughout the application process ... and this is where I think most people need to address. Also, if you are using a sponsor that you are not a direct dependant of, I suggest you try to pay your full tuition for a year and have some reasonable funds in your personal account to cover living expenses for the first few weeks/months.

Just my thoughts sha, cos really, I don't know sh*t.

The fixed was just for 3 months i guess and it was set to be mature by the end of last October.
The Treasury bills were also ready to be mature the end of last October
The SOA was actually stupid in my own view but then when you work with difficult people its hard to make them understand.
We argued and quarreled over that balance but she reminded me of how she has been to many countries and how many years she has worked in a bank and that only the cash flow matters.
Wetin man go do when na beg you dey beg to documents.

Hi,
I think the issue is with ur SOA. I might be wrong tho.
ow long is d fixed deposit for? Asin wen is it suppose to mature? I think d problm myt b dere. If it wont mature b4 january, dey wud wonder.expecially as dere isnt dat much cash available.
As for ur oda sponsor, u cant sponsor sum1 with a balance of 0.85naira. Evn if d credit debit is 80million, d available cash matters too.
Like i said, i might b wrong.

Source of income was fully explained brother.
Main Sponsor is a business owner and (CAC was provided).
Co Sponsor is a senior banker ( Letter of Introduction with full salary was provided)

Sorry ooo wow!
pchax:
STORY TIME

As I was leaving the Visa office yesterday after submitting my passport, a police Van double crossed me while I was waiting for Obalende Bus just by Oando filling station. 2 men were inside, 2 were siting in the covered boot panel and they all had assault rifles. They demanded I hand over all the documents in the black folder I was carrying. I promptly did that cos I did not want whahala. They were going through all the documents and they asked for my name. I told them. They now said "so you sef wan travel", I kept mute. They asked where I work. By then I had regained my confidence from the early shock and I decided to play "humility" with them. I told them "your boy is trying to push it on the streets ooo.... No real job yet". That was when the two that were sitting at the back jumped down and demanded I enter the van. There and then, I knew the answer I gave them about where I work was the wrongest because with my faded jeans and t-shirt they would have assumed I was a "runs guy" trying to do some shady deals around the embassy. I stood my ground tough. Luckily for me, the man searching my papers came across my NYSC certificate and said "ooo... you be corper sef". I agreed to being a corper. And he gestured for the 2 that wanted to take me into the van to stop. They kept on demanding for my International Passport and honestly, I did not have it on me. They even ransacked the file I was carrying to look for it. To cut the long story short, they wasted like 5 minutes of my time before they left and they gave me back all my documents.

Has anyone had such an experience with them around that area before?

My advice now to those going to the embassy is to dress responsibly. Because I believe they profiled me to go after me cos I dressed in a "runs guy"way (a pair of jeans that has seen better days and a black t-shirt 3 times my size with some heavy grafitti inscriptions in front). Also, no matter what happens, never hand over your passport to anyone.

May God guide us all and keep us safe.

Good Morning and have a fruitful day!

Ok thanks...is the admission for this PBD kinda sure regardless of cgpa, I'm asking because I had a 2:2 nd how much is the cost like in those schs esp SFU
Not sure UBC offers PBD atal sef, but u cud chck ursef, as for sfu, the admission is sure as long as ur 2.2 Cpga meets the minimum, n d cost depends on ow many units u would have to complete i.e,if u ve no background in d course u want to do the PBD in, u would ve to do more units dan some1 who has a background already, so ur fees would b more. Jst chck deir site, tz al dere.

please can someone apply for the PBD directly from here to FSU, UBC with a 2:2 nd move on to masters afterwards....nd what are the likely documents to submit for the admission
Yes u can. Primarily u shud submit ur transcript, fill d application online n pay d fees. U apply tru the undergrad online application system, den u select PBD wen ure fillin it.

@pchax @Tsola6, I had 3.87/5.00 n also studied computer science, I got an msc. Computer sci admission at UofR without going through the stress of getting a supervisor. I also kno of a friend(we finished frm d same dept) with 3.65 cgpa, he got an msc. Computer sci admission(not thesis based tho) at concordia uni, montreal. I think it depends on individual school and the applicants that are applying during the period in which u applied cause their admission competitive.

Pchax I dey always lik ur post bro smileyKeep up the good work
It depends on the School my dear, those top 10, 15 schools ve a Very high standard and the kind of applicants dey get yearly, i say my frnd with 1st class n she evn wrote gre! Dint get in McGill, lol! Evn ottawa dint gv her msc, she was offered the pbd. So i rili think its d school.

Oh.. interesting. I guess that piece of advice would help someone here who is considering MSc in Computer Science.
Comp. Sci is also my first degree and I was tragetting "top 10 schools" except Toronto. The likes of UBC, Waterloo, McGill, SFU, Alberta, York, Calgary etc. But when I was not able to grab the attention of any of the professors there, I decided to expand my scope to "top 30" as I did not want to "blindly" apply to schools and keep fingers crossed whether I would be accepted or not. Luckily for me, I saw a Prof interested in working with me and the rest is history. From my convos with them, it seems that they do not really reckon with our grades here. Can you imagine a grad secretary in USacks telling me to "consider other options" because I did not make a first class from my Nigerian University. They think first class is beans.

Of a truth, Odikwa pretty difficult because we have to compete with them crazy Indians and Chinese whose parents have been grooming since when they were toddlers years old to get admission into UBC or Toronto (especially in computer science). I see the GRE scores of some of those dudes and their undergrad projects and I wonder if it is the same MSc we are applying for. Nevertheless, I know naija doesn't carry last and I trust you would show them fire in that PBD that they would even given you PhD admission straight ahead. smiley
Thank u o. Dnt evn want to tlk abt those Chinese n indians story, but i knw i wud not carry last, never ever! Lol! Those canada people can tke person do yeye. Wen u scale tru d admission, CIC is dere waitin for u! God help us all!

Loool... even black indians? Cos I learnt that apart from the Chinese, the indians have a heavy presence there. I guess that makes you unique and I trust your enjoying the place. Vancouver was once an Olympic city so I guess there would be lots of recreational parks and great out door activity areas. Enjoy the uniqueness while it lasts cos now that you have mentioned on NL that UBC and SFU school fees no reach 1M, naija peeps go dey run go there.

On a more serious note, which course did you apply for? What is the PBD like and for how many months is it run? That your GPA is pretty healthy ooo....
I tot it was healthy up until i got refused msc in both sfu n ubc.
I applied for msc in computer sci, dats wat i did in my undergrad, wanted to go into Networks and systems but i was offered d diploma. Tz a graduate diploma for 2 terms (8months) and after dat i wud go for d msc, my chances of gettin in den wud b way higher.
I think those people feel our education is sub standard tho. My frnd with a first class in Economics, applied for Msc and got offerd d same PBD in uni of ottawa, after bin rejected by Mcgill n Uni of Illinois in America she had to settle, shes dere now. So my dear, Odikwa very difficult!

I looked at UBC. Great funding, low fees. Same with SFU too. The first thing that scared me was that my GPA (3.56/5.00) was kinda pretty low for this "geeky schools". I know that my work and research experience MIGHT compensate for it but I did not want to take a chance. Moreover, the professors there did not definitely offer me a position on their team. I still love those schools though! <3

As for cost of living, check out the price of foodstuff there, transportation and the likes. Also, you say houses range between 400-500 but in Ontario (Windsor to be specific) I am seeing 300 and I know I can even beat it down with my igbo man negotiations. Those couple of hundreds saved every month would add up to something tangible at the end of the year.

Once again, I did not say the schools are terrible ooo... Infact I respect/envy you for going to that school. But mehn, beer aren't that cheap there.
Lol @ beer aint cheap there"
Cool, deir shakara nor b here, with my 4.02/5.00 gpa dint get msc, waz offered pbd at sfu, ubc rejected me,lol!
My main issue with dat place is dat the blck population dere is abt 2% so u cud go deys without seein ny blck person, dat scares me.

High cost of living in Vancouver. That dissuaded me. I have a soft spot for SFU and UBC and the rivalry breeding between those two but Vancouver is one of the most expensive places in North America. Would have loved to quote a source for that last bit of info. But tiredness...
Dunno sha, chcked 4 houses n seems to b abt d same price with most places in canada, dnt knw ow dey get deir lists tho.... 400- 450 -500 n u wud get a very comfy house, n dats like d same 4 most major cities i think... n ubc is also quite cheap, atleast compared to many others with evn lower ratings...
