CelebritiesTiwa Savage Signs With Universal Music Group by tstx(op): 12:42pm On May 02, 2019
This deal marks the end of Tiwa Savage's seven-year association with Mavin Records.

One of the biggest African female acts, Tiwa Savage has signed a record deal with Universal Music Group.

Some of the facilitators present at the signing of the deal at UMG office in California are Joel Katz, Efe Ogbeni , Vanessa Amadi (Stealth Management), Sipho Dlamini, Managing Director of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa (English-speaking), Adam Granite , Executive Vice President, Market Development at Universal Worldwide and Sir Lucian Grainge, Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group Worldwide.

As an effect of this contract, the singer has also left the Don Jazzy-founded, Mavin Records which she joined seven years ago (in 2012) during its transition from Mo’Hits Records. During her time with the label, she has transformed from just a talented singer to an A-lister, show headliner and multiple award-winner.

At the conclusion of the deal, Efe Ogbeni and Vanessa Amadi -Ogbonna say, “ We’re very proud to be a part of this ground-breaking partnership between Tiwa Savage and Universal Music Group.

"Tiwa is undoubtedly the most hardworking and talented female artist crossing over from Africa to the rest of the world, and UMG has demonstrated its commitment to the continent by placing its formidable machinery behind her amazing career. Partnerships like these symbolize the hopes and dreams of so many talented artists back home in Africa and it is an honor to be the executive producers of her project .”

Adam Granite, Executive Vice President, Market Development, Universal Music Group says, “ We are looking forward to partnering with Tiwa and her team to help her music reach new audiences around the world. As one of Africa’s most successful, influential and dynamic singer-songwriters, Tiwa has truly global ambitions and UMG is committed to helping her in achieving them. ”

Via his Instagram account, (@DonJazzy ), Mavin Records head honcho, Don Jazzy has since sent out a farewell message to her and thanked her for amazing seven years with his label during which she released two albums and one EP. She was also on the Mavin Compilation album, 'Solar Plexus.'

In the caption accompanying the post, he wrote, " Our darling Tiwatope. We at Mavin would like to say a very big thank you for being such an inspiration to all of us, a friend, a sister. It’s been an epic journey with you and we are very proud of what we have achieved together.

"As you start this new chapter in your life we want you to know that we are solidly behind you and can’t wait for the world to see what we have always believed you can be. Your jersey as the First Lady of Mavin will forever be yours as we do not intend to fill that position with anyone else.

"We love you from the bottom of heart and pray GOD’s blessings continue to follow you. Amennnn."

This deal makes her the first Nigerian female act to be signed to the label.

South Africa will be hosting 2019 edition of Mr Gay World pageant where 24 finalists will compete for this year’s crown.

The contest was initially set to be hosted in Hong Kong, but was stopped by strict socialist Chinese authorities as they believed the gay community was taboo. The finale is expected to be held at the Cape Town City Hall on May 4, 2019.

The contestants arrived south Africa on April 28 and were warmly welcomed by the President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa who took to Twitter to wish the delegates well.

“As we celebrate the freedoms afforded to all people in South Africa and affirm the democratic values of human dignity, equality & freedom enshrined in our Constitution, I wish Mr Gay World delegates well and I hope you enjoy your visit to the most beautiful places in the world,” he tweeted.

Prior to the main event, contestants will enjoy their Mr Gay World Experience for a week touring Cape Town and other parts of South Africa and in the process, indulge in activities that will earn them marks to help them come tops and win the crown on the final night.

This year, South Africa, Namibia and Botswana are the only African countries participating out of the 24 countries from Europe, Asia, North America, South and Central America and Oceania. The three African countries will be represented by South Africa’s Chris Emmanuel, Botswana’s Oratile Victor Phofhedi and Namibia’s Rivelino Ronald Reinecke.

Started in 2009 with no age limits, the Mr Gay World competition was created to establish ambassadors for LGBT and human rights. Since then, it has brought more awareness to LGBT men and the freedom to express themselves openly.

The contest is slowly gaining grounds around the world and is set to pull a huge crowd after the big publicity and controversy that went into the 2019 Mr Gay World South Africa event.

This is not the first time South Africa is hosting the event, however, it is the first time that the event is being held with much more freedom.

CrimeNigerian Mistaken For A Kidnapper Mobbed To Death In South Africa by tstx(op): 1:48pm On May 01, 2019
Samuel Nkennaya, a 34-year-old Nigerian has been mobbed while another, Chinonso Nwudo, is in critical condition in a South African Hospital.

Victor Ayanfe-Oyebanjo, Secretary of Mpumalanga Province branch of the Nigerian Union in South Africa, made the disclosure in a statement made available to NAN on Tuesday.

He said that Nkennaya and Nwudo were attacked following accusations that both men kidnapped Chinonye, a six-year-old girl who, unknown to their attackers, is Nwudo’s daughter.

“It all started when Nwudo took his six-year-old daughter, Chinonye, to visit Nkennaya at White River town in the evening of April 27," he said.

“Later, Nwudo and Nkennaya proceeded to buy food for Nwudo’s daughter, Chinonye, at KFC restaurant in the area. Thereafter, the community did not bother to ask questions and immediately mobbed the two Nigerians.

“While they were being attacked, Nwudo kept on shouting that the girl was his daughter and pleaded that they speak to his South African wife to confirm his claim — which actually saved his life.

“The Police later intervened and called for backup to rescue the victims. Nkennaya died at the hospital on April 28, while Nwudo is in critical health condition. The incident has been reported to NUSA’s national secretariat, while the union is currently seeking redress to ensure that the culprits were brought to book."

Speaking, Katlekho Ndlovu, a South African national who is Nwudo's wife, also confirmed the incident, saying Chinonye had been traumatised by the incident and was undergoing counselling in an undisclosed hospital.

“They (attackers) did not bother to ask her anything and didn’t even bother to remove her from the scene before beating her dad (Nwudo) unconscious. Chinonye’s dad is in the hospital while her uncle (Nkennaya) is dead,” she said amid tears.

Nwudo's death comes few days after the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa said a Nigerian from Nnobi, Anambra State, was killed by an unidentified gunman in South Africa.

“We received yet again the sad news of the death of another Nigerian in Witbank Mpumalanga province," the group had said.

“Mr Tony Elochukwu from Nnobi Anambra State was shot twice in the head by an unidentified Nigerian gunman on April 24 at around 2:45pm. A lone Nigerian man walked to some Nigerians at a restaurant and inquired from them where to get some weed to smoke, but they told him that they did not know where since they do not smoke."

Okoli said the man then pulled out his gun and shot Elochukwu on the head and sped off in a car parked down the street.
