TylerForbes: Very true. I can only imagine how proud you’ll be when your own daughter, after spending 16 long years in school working to be something great, ends up by the roadside selling kuli-kuli. Meanwhile, the councilor’s kids are either cruising through Covenant University or sitting as managers in big firms.
A lot of Igbo businessmen have given account of how they started from nothing. Many of the people who served as nwaboy were disappointed by their master at the end of their service and many have to start will less than 50k but was able to grow their business and today they are doing well.
Why will an Obidients want to crimialise a gesture that reflect their story?
I’m guessing you’ve already ordered the big pot she’ll be using to start her "empire," right? Please, let me know when she’s done with her education—I’d also love to "empower" her with that same 50k you’re so fond of recommending. |

Sheuns: Are you insinuating that the 20 pounds rumored to be given to some Igbos after the war is what they used to thrive and expand to what they are today?
In other words, you’re directly or indirectly agreeing with what the Igbos have called themselves, wealth creators.
What a time. This is a case where politics has made some people to destroy their identity. An average Igboman pride on how he survived the war with nothing, whether Nigerians accept such story doesn't matter, but it has been established and echoed that an Igboman will survive on little to nothing, this was the position of Peter Obi when he gave some women 10k each as empowerment. Why are Obidients denying that positive aspect of the story of Igbo people, are they saying because of Peter Obi, Igbo people could not longer start business and grow to whatever level they aspires to become? |
Politics › Still On Akara And Kulikuli: How Some People Lost Their Identity by Ttalk(op): 2:22pm On Jun 28 |
I grew up to hear the people of SE were given stipend to start a new life after the war. The argument that surrounds that action by the Federal government is that of a genuine pride of rising from nothing to something. While they argued that such pitant was meant to completely crush the Igbo thriving and business spirit, reverse became the story and the Igbo people who benefited from such embarrassment empowerment utilized the grant and that change their story from grass to grace.
This brings about the entrepreneurship spirit of an average Igboman, I've seen many who turned their pathetic situation into a motivating story. They started with virtuously nothing but the spirit of entrepreneur drove them to succeed.
Many of their parent started their thriving business today with less than 10k, it is a story everyone will want to tell their wards to not belittle the day of little beginning..
Giving 50k to the downtrodden reflects the story of many thriving Igbo business today. They are a good example of how to strike a water from a dead stone, they have exhibited that countless time with the way they survived.
Why are Obidients now treating the issue with disdain and abomination, for every Obidient who disparage this gesture, should look at their story, the story of their parents and the story of the people they admire and see how many of them against all odds transformed their financial life with a fraction of 50k empowerment capital Remi Tinubu gave to the poor |
Politics › Re: Sunday Dare: My Mother Sold Akara, I Carried Bananas On My Head (Video) by Ttalk: 1:21pm On Jun 28 |
If there is anything I like about Igbo people is their entrepreneur spirit. I've seen many Igbo youth who came to Lagos with nothing manouvre there way to financial prosperity. I've seen many engage in petty trading, hawking by the roadside with no shame. These are trades that an average Yoruba man would not want to do.
There's a particular canteen back then we used to eat when we are broke in school, 2 young Igbo guys own it, they sell concortion rice, pap and bean and other stuff, am sure their initial setup would be less than 20k. Some year later when I visited the area to greet my Landlord, those young guys has transformed into a modern restaurant with staff and touch of excellence.
I learn a great deal from that experience. An entrepreneur who doesn't know how utilize small amount will waste big money when it sees one.
It's surprising to see Igbo with goal getter spirit coming down to disparage Remi Tinubu on 50k empowerment when the money their parents used to start a thriving business today is less than 10k.
See how politics is causing some region their identity |

Politics › Re: The State Police Mirage: Ignoring The Real Causes Of Insecurity by Ttalk: 8:36pm On Jun 27 |
Bobloco: The hype around state police sounds eerily familiar. It's the same hype we heard about local government financial autonomy. We were told it would be the best thing since sliced bread, that it would finally bring development to the grassroots.
So, where are the results?
Nearly two years later, several local governments are still struggling. In Osun State, for example, local government allocations have been withheld by the Tinubu administration for almost two years, starving councils of funds needed for development and even the payment of salaries. So much for autonomy.
Now we're being sold another miracle cure: state police. The same administration that has presided over one of the country's worst security crises now wants Nigerians to believe that creating another police structure controlled by state governors is the magic wand that will fix everything.
Yet they continue to ignore the drivers of insecurity: deepening hardship, soaring inflation, unemployment, the collapse of the naira's purchasing power, the Tinubu draconian policies mascurading as economic reforms that have made life significantly harder for millions. Treating the symptoms while ignoring the disease has never solved anything.
The existing police force is already understaffed, undertrained, poorly equipped, and poorly paid. The military is deployed internally. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps exists. States fund vigilante groups. There's the regional security outfits like Amotekun Corps in the south west. Despite all these security outfits, insecurity has continued to worsen.
Now we're expected to believe that state police will suddenly succeed where every other security arrangement has struggled?
Nigerians have seen this before especially under the Tinubu regime, Every new policy is marketed as the best thing since sliced bread. Then reality arrives, implementation fails, accountability disappears, and the public is left bearing the brunt
Until the underlying economic and governance failures are addressed, and until there are credible safeguards against governors turning state police into political enforcers, many Nigerians will see this less as a security reform and more as another overhyped promise. You better start mobilising your people to call out on your governor. What the bill seek to address is to remove state police from Exclusive list down to concurrent so that both Federal and states have power to establish and legislate on state police in their state. I don't know how that now becomes a problem to the Obidients. I thought Southern Nigeria especially the SE claimed to love restructuring since they can't get Biafra, why are they now getting jittery at the mention of state police Does their own type of restructuring only end with removal of indigenous status in favour of residential status. What then define Federalism if some section of the country in deed and in action are trying to unify a diverse nation that even the colonial masters respect our diversity and gave us a regional arrangement that was later truncated by same people who don't want state police |

ryloy: Our Renewed Hope Education reforms are delivering measurable results.
I’m pleased to see Nigerian universities record their strongest performance yet in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
This year, 24 Nigerian universities were ranked globally, up from 21 in previous years, making Nigeria the most represented country in Sub Saharan Africa. Even more encouraging, 17 of those institutions are federal universities, reflecting the progress we are making in strengthening our public higher education system.
Congratulations to the University of Ibadan, the University of Lagos, Bayero University Kano, and every Nigerian university recognised in this year’s rankings. This achievement belongs to the entire higher education sector and demonstrates what is possible when institutions are committed to excellence.
These rankings are not just about prestige. They are evidence that our investments in research, innovation, digital transformation, quality assurance, infrastructure, and governance are beginning to translate into global recognition.
Even more encouraging, 27 additional Nigerian universities participated in this year’s assessment, demonstrating a growing commitment to transparency, benchmarking, and continuous improvement.
Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we remain committed to the Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI), ensuring our universities produce the knowledge, innovation, and talent that will drive Nigeria’s future.
The work continues.

Funny enough, majority of those who criticized the idea are the same people that call people lazy for not doing anything, they are the same set of people that will brag that they can turn a desert to city but here someone is saying get busy they are still insulting her.
We all know Nigeria have been battling the issue of unemployment for a very long time, infact 60% of people we finished together during JONATHAN era in the university aren't using their results but doing other things to get busy.
So my question to those insulting remi Tinubu, if government can't employ all graduates...
What will happen to the remaining graduates the government can't employ?
Should they just sit idle doing nothing or get busy with something? There are enough slot for employment in Obi beer factory that can accommodate all the Obidients |

Should Lagos people see that as an agenda and drive away SE from Lagos? Why do you make everything about Igbo, are there no other tribes in Lagos, why are the not accusing Lagos as not accommodating. Now you understand very clearly.
Same people that were pushing for state of origin to be scrapped in place of state of residence and to derecognise indigeneship are here crying over state police .
This is also why they are against the coastal highway because they know the project will open up pristine coastal areas for development by the indigenes of the SS .
They are against this because they see those lands and coastal areas as theirs to conquer and occupy in future.
I know these people more than they know themselves. It is glaring that many who shout restructuring in the day are actually against it in the night. I remember vividly the crop of Senator from SE who opposed granting Lagos state special status, these are same people who have shared political positions of Lagos with Lagos people. Again, same people out of all Nigerians were against state control of VAT championed by Rivers and Lagos state. Now that police is being moved to Concurrent List the same people who never cared for Lagos state are raising concern over state police in Lagos |
