When we compare this with a man like Azikiwe who ran away Esme Biafra at the height of the Nigerian civil war and switched side to Gowon or when we consider Ojukwu who left his people at the height of the war and ran away to ivory coast. It becomes clear who are brave and who are cowards.

From an unbiased mindset.
The Ikwerre is a distinct ethnic group. My grandmother an Igbo woman from Umuahia told me that when she got married to my grandfather that the distinction between Ikwerre and Igbos were as clear as daylight. That they called the Ikwerres Ndi or Oyi Ikwerre and Ikwerres called them Oyi Igbo. That there was never a time Ikwerres were Igbos. My grandmother died close to 80 years in 2009.
Now from my personal observations.
The Ikwerres first met perhaps outcasts and slaves of Igbo origin in Ikwerre land. This gave them an erroneous believe that anyone who speaks Igbo is an outcast or a slave. As a matter of fact the Ikwerres call the Igbos Isuoma. Which means good and obidient servants. Till date there are roles in Ikwerre land that if your mum is from Igbo land you are not qualified to play such role.
Culturally the Ikwerres are diversed from the Igbos. Although certain words are the same. Ignis always claimed that Ikwerres disassociated themselves after the war. This is not true as Ogbakor Ikwerre was formed before Ohaneze in 1963. The Rumuomasi Declaration of 1964 that the Ikwerres are neither ijaw, Ogoni nor Igbos came before the war.
We have although a lot in common but not one the other.
If an Ebonyi man speaks you will know he speaks Igbo same with Ngwa or Owerri. But when an Ikwerre man speaks it is off Igbo although with some words shared in common.
An Igbo man can only understand Ikwerre by living in PH and using his intellect to join the words.
As a matter of fact just as Igbos have different dialect so does Ikwerres as well. We have over ten Ikwerre dialect. The man in Rumuokoro doesn't speak the same with the man at Choba. The man at Choba does speak the same with Ogbakiri. Ogbakiri doesn't speak same with Rumuolumeni. Rumuolumeni does speak the same with Emuoha. Emuoha does speak the same with Ndele and so forth and so on.
If Ikwerre speaks same dialect it would be easy to say they migrated somewhere.
I also don't believe the Bini story. Although with sounds the Ikwerres found in Emuoha and Ikwerre LGA have a lot in common. They speak like the Bini people.
In all I agree we are in one way or the other related but not one the other.

My brother let me help you. We the Ikwerres as far back as 1964 form Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention when we were in Eastern Region together with the Igbos. Soon after that Igbos formed Ohaneze Ndi Igbo.
In 1965 in Rumuomasi Ikwerre had what is today called Rumuomasi Declaration declaring that they are neither Ijaw, Ogoni or any other ethnic group including the Igbo.
Scientific studies have been carried out using DNAs of Igbos and Ikwerres the conclusion was that they are distinct people. Igbo professors at Uniport carried out this study.
