Education › Re: See The 7 Things I Did In Order To Understand My Lecturer In Class by Tunby(m): 8:59am On Apr 25, 2017 |
fergusen: It is one thing to attend classes, but getting the best from the lecture session is a different ball game entirely. I have outlined the following as steps to take if you desire to get maximum benefits from your lectures.
1. Come before the lectures begin: endeavor to be at the lecture venue (class) not later than 30 minutes to commencement of the lectures. The benefits of this cannot be over emphasized. It puts the mind in a relaxed mood, ready for learning. You also get the chance to make brief revisions before the lecture commences. Do this a few times and you'll see it becoming a part of you.
2. Sit in the front: O' yes! The back seat they say is meant for late comers and noise makers (*chuckles*). Sit in front where the chances of you being distracted are minimal. You also get to hear the lecturer clearly.
3. Come prepared: just like a farmer goes to the farm with farming implements, go to the class with whatever is required of you or things needed for convenience such as calculator, mathematical sets, pencils, booklet, pen, bottled water and the likes. Remember, your aim for attending the lecture is to get knowledge/ideas from the tutor. All of these materials at your disposal will see to this goal being achieved.
4. Write, write and write intelligible: An old Chinese proverb says that “the faintest ink is more powerful than the strongest memory”. Endeavor to write during lectures. Put down important points, employ the use mnemonics, retrieval cues, and whatever will aid retention and recall of what has been taught.
5. Ask questions: no lecturer who knows his/her onions will penalize you for being inquisitive. When an aspect of your course content is not well understood, do ask questions! This is to ensure that learning objectives are achieved and no grey area is left unattended to.
6. Stay away from that noisy friend during lectures: Loquacious, hyperactive, playful... You know them. You also risk being sent out of the class for being a nuisance along with them. Avoid them, it'll benefit you and that also sends a message to them that such actions are unacceptable.
7. Open you mind: go to class/ lectures with the mind-set of learning something new. Be open to new ideas/knowledge. Appreciate the fact that the instructor has spent considerable amount of time putting together the learning content.
This steps aren't exhaustive, however they sure will help you get the best during lecture sessions as a student.
When you adhere to this few steps, be sure of getting the best from that lecture and ultimately getting that eye-popping CGPA!
Naija Cgpa Blog Good points. But some of these things can be very difficult in a Nigerian School setting.E.g Point1: Many times, Lectures are back to back, no spaces in between eg 8-10, 10-12, 12-2 Point2: Here's a scenerio I went through during school. About 500students waiting to enter a 100seater hall for a lecture. You'll only get a front seat by chance and not choice except you are willing to stand. Let's hope you're able to write well standing in the heat.To worsen the case, the lecturer is just talking to himself not caring if you hear or not. Point3: |

Nairaland General › Re: 8 Types Of Nigerians That Will Leave You Frustrated When You Meet Them by Tunby(m): 10:16pm On Feb 21, 2017 |
VastFinder: There is no doubt that the effect of the economic recession in the country has subjected people to complaining and grumbling on the cost of living.
Nigerians are trying their possible best to survive in the midst of all by cutting down cost to complement their means of income. There are some Nigerians you will never want to have anything to do with during this recession.
Here 8 types of people living in Nigeria that could make life miserable for you.
1. Nigerian Tailors Some tailors in Nigeria can make life miserable when you give them a design and they do something entirely different. They are good at making promises and never delivering them. Good at giving unimaginable excuses. If they promise to bring your cloth this week, don’t expect it until next month.
2. Nigerian Mechanics Nigerian mechanics! They are fast consuming than cancer. They will always look for ways to empty your pocket. Even when there is nothing wrong with your car, they cook up imaginary fault.
3. Power Holding Company of Nigeria (NEPA) Never pray to see a police in the morning especially when you are rushing for work. They are good at wasting time and not your safety. They are ready to be your friend once you have an answer to their regular ‘anything for the boys?’
4. Nigerian Politicians Nigerian politician do not have permanent friends but friends with permanent interest. They knee for you just to have your vote, only to embezzle your money when they have your votes. They are full of empty and vague promises.
5. Conductors These set of Nigerians are good at ‘marrying’ passengers at the bus stop. They pretend like they don’t have change, just to stress you over your own money. It is only a Nigerian driver/conductor that will abuse you for their intentional errors.
6. Nigerian Banks They laugh with you when they need you to open an account with them only to ask irrelevant questions on withdrawal of YOUR HARD EARNED money. You keep your money with them but they remove tiny tiny amounts for irrelevant charges. What is card maintenance fee?
7. Petrol Attendants These ones are really annoying. They act like they are doing you a favour, meanwhile it is their job. They will never sell the complete amount, especially if you are buying fuel for your generator. They ask for ‘keg money’, like you are expected to buy the fuel on your palm if not the container.

Leonardo da Vinci or simply Leonardo, was an Italian polymath whose areas of interest included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, literature, anatomy, geology, astronomy, botany, writing, history, and cartography . He has been variously called the father of palaeontology, ichnology, and architecture, and is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Sometimes credited with the inventions of the parachute, helicopter and tank, he epitomised the Renaissance humanist ideal.
i envy him... so in my own little way.. i hope to b a businessman in some months... though i am a current guitar tutor, pianist, chef , poet, artiste , engineering grad, practicing safety officer..

darlenese: As an entreprenuer , I'd say business is not easy . if u are are not business oriented , pls forget about business and be a salary earner Everyone has the potential to do business in one form or the other, just like every one is creative in one form or the other and everyone can be a leader in one form or the other. It just takes a strong and bold mind to step out and a logical mind to think. Business is not rocket science. |
Career › Re: Salary Job VS Doing Business, Which One Is Better? by Tunby(m): 9:54am On Feb 03, 2017 |
A salary Job is good but doing business is better. It seems easier to just go work somewhere everyday and have a "sure" salary every month unlike starting a business which can involve a lot of uncertainty and can be very risky. It is most rewarding at the end of the day. The extent of your work and hence, success (or failure) of your business lies solely in your hands or your team, unlike a salary job where your superiors enjoys the most benefit of your hard work. |

I studied electrical and computer engineering in unilag and know oyinda personally. She took some of my departmental course. She is simply highly efficient and hardworking. However, I'd say she had a bit of luck or some might say divine favour because there were courses she just miraculously scored A where other equally good students scored B. There are a lot of other guys who were good enough to have 5.0 also but were unfortunate to have a few Bs here and there. Btw I managed to finish with a two-one. Phew! E no easy meen. Lol |

Health › Strenght-wise Difference Betwwen AS And AA by Tunby(op): 11:53pm On Dec 21, 2016 |
Hello Nairalanders.
This is to the doctors and distinguished health professionals in the house. I have this issue that I have been battling for long (well over 10years now). I've noticed that relative to certain people(which I've confirmed most to be AA ), I get easily tired while working, hence I tend to take more intermittent breaks. Also I get very very weak when under the sun or some kind of heat, whereas it's almost like my strength will not deplete when I work in a naturally aerated environment e.g under a tree shade in the early mornings, evening or when rain falls. I have reasons to believe my blood group, AS (or is it blood type?) has a lot to do with this but I do not want to assume. Please elaborate on the strengh-wise difference between these two and help provide tips to improve performance. Thank you. |

Education › Re: How Do You Read To Understand? by Tunby(m): 10:47am On Aug 06, 2015 |
misssclassy: Well, there are a lot of factors to put into consideration as regards this issue of reading to understand.
First of all one has to decide to want to read. You can't do anything well if you are forced to do that thing or you feel that thing is something you 'must' do, so you just have to do it. It's the same way with reading. You first of all have to develop the desire to read. The desire to get the knowledge that the particular book or course you want to read is offering. The truth is if you don't desire to read, you will never understand as you supposed to.
Another thing one should take into consideration is the environment you want to read in. Some people like to read in quite environments, some like to read in noisy environments. Some like to read while listening to soft or loud music. Some like to read while munching a snack, or biscuit or sipping from their favorite drinks. Some like to read with a friend and have chit chats in between the reading exercise. As for me, I can only understand in a quite environment. One where I am alone and there is no noise. I also like to walking around while I am memorizing(craming). It helps me grasp it faster. I am someone who thinks on her feet, so when I am memorizing a passage of a book, I prefer to walk around.
I also like to jot down as I write. Before I read a course, I get a 60/80 leaves exercise book and I draw a thin like down the middle of each page. So as I read each topic, I jot down some important points. I have come to the realization that whenever I jot down anything while reading, I hardly forget. In school, the lecturers normally gave us materials, both in soft and hard copy. So when I am done jotting down those important points in this materials, the next time I read that subject or topic, I just go through what I have jotted down.
I also try to understand the ways lecturers set their questions. Some lecturers always follow a certain pattern when setting their exam and test questions. Even in some courses, despite the lecturer handling that course, the method of setting the questions is always the same. So if you know how these exam question are asked, you would know the pattern you would use in reading. Some students just ignorantly read everything and they don't pay cognizance to some center key areas where the bulk of these questions are asked from.
Past questions are also important and surprisingly, they are always available. When I get these past questions, I always use them as a guide as to how to read. When I am done reading a course, I test myself with these past question to see if I have really covered the scheme and if I truly understand the course and to ascertain how ready I am for the exam.
Group reading is also essential. Is good to always have a group of friends you discuss a course with. It's not necessary you do it with them everyday but you pick a particular time maybe twice a week to read and discuss together. One thing I have noticed is whatever I discuss any topic with my friends, I never forget it and I also understand it better.
Finally, one thing about this courses is that they are very volatile. So I always try to make sure at every point in time, I able to remember everything I have read. The way I do this is that I get an exercise book, and from time to time, I try to replicate what I have read and memorized on the book. The more I do that, the more I tend not to forget what I read.
The time one reads is also important. In school, majority of students always read at night. In Uniben it's called Night class. One thing I noticed is that not everyone actually likes or knows how to read night but because their friends read at night, they decide to tag along. I noticed that my brain is normally alert during the evenings and early in the morning. So, I always read from 5- 7 in the morning and after classes in the evening all the way till 11-12pm. Once it's 1am in the morning, my brain stops assimilating so at that time, I just go to my hostel and sleep.
I always read in classes or at the library. And it's not just any class. The way the class is lighted also affects the way I read and understand. I prefer classes that are well lighted. I also like chewing gum when I read. It also helps me grasp faster, and I don't fall asleep easily. And when I sit in the class, I always sit at the extreme of the chairs. If I sit in the middle, I just feel uncomfortable.
I also commit what I read into God's hand. He is the one that blessed me with the brain, so I always ask Him to help me understand better. Hmn,interesting. you sound like someone who bagged a first class.Did you? |

do you really want to learn web programmin? if yes, I have the solution to your answer.. 1. the truth is with the huge sum of money you are going to pay @NIIT, you won't still be fulfilled becos programing requires personal training and motivation. 2. truth, everyone says motivation, personal training but the place of a mentor can not be under estimated.. so to learn quick and fast, you also need a mentor 3. you also need programmers, people of like minds who want to learn same thing or doing same thing so you can share ideas while you both learn.. well you might think.
I know I have told you the truth in good faith, but I have a solution... I am also a learner and have been into web for 2years now, I want to help you, help myself and others who r interested in a group of 5programmers where we will teach ourselves well, buy materials ourselves online and learn at a fast pace with losing huge sum of money to NIIT. pls whatsapp me on 2349033863912. note, am not collecting any money from you. must reside in Lagos
