gal10: I went to Shoprite (Lekki) today and asked to see the manager. I asked point blank if they used pig oil to bake their bread and he said a categorical NO!. I am not a moslem but i dont eat pork or its derivatives cos i dont think it is healthy. I love Shoprite bread so had to clear my spirit.

I should have mentioned it that there is an online campaign against their bread so that they can bring out a press release but i forgot to.

I remember when I was working with Nestle, there is an halal committee that validate and certify the production process. It's part of the QC/QA role.

If you are observant, you will see it on product labels written as Halal English or Arabic or both.

It's important we investigate shoprite, if they are producing the bread for all or just for non Muslims who eat anything they like.

Context of verse is during battlefield

Critics of Islam actually quote this verse out of context. In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah. It says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriks (pagans) of Makkah. This treaty was violated by the Mushriks of Makkah. A period of four months was given to the Mushriks of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise war would be declared against them.

Example of war between America and Vietnam

We know that America was once at war with Vietnam. Suppose the President of America or the General of the American Army told the American soldiers during the war: “Wherever you find the Vietnamese, kill them”.

Today if I say that the American President said, “Wherever you find the Vietnamese, kill them” without giving the context, I will make him sound like a butcher.

But if I quote him in context, that he said it during a war, it will sound very logical, as he was trying to boost the morale of the American soldiers during the war.

“If one amongst the pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure that is because they are men without knowledge.” [Al-Qur’an 9:6]

The Qur’an not only says that a Mushrik seeking asylum during the battle should be granted refuge, but also that he should be escorted to a secure place.

In the present international scenario, even a kind, peace-loving army General, during a battle, may let the enemy soldiers go free, if they want peace. But which army General will ever tell his soldiers, that if the enemy soldiers want peace during a battle, don’t just let them go free, but also escort them to a place of security?

Islam is a religion of peace!

As a Muslim, whatever is made halal shouldn't be made haram simply because we detest it.

Polygyny is not compulsory but a provision, not because you are wealthy but because you see a NEED for it.

You must however satisfy the conditions which wealth or ability to sustain it is just one of it.

There are things you may detest but are the best for you.

If Allah the Most wise revealed it in the Quran, we must understand that there is wisdom in it.

At night he would pray for a long time standing and for a long time sitting; and when he recited the Qur’an while standing, he would bow & prostrate himself from standing position. And when he recited while sitting, he would bow & prostrate himself from sitting position. And when it was dawn (Fajr), he would pray 2 raka’at.”

I have learned a lot here, both one gig and baba11 are on point.

Night vigil is part of Islam enshrined in the holy Quran.

There's nothing like white wedding in Islam, we marry and celebrate within the limits set in Islam.

What we do on Sunday morning isn't a compulsory act but highly rewarding to do the remembrance of God instead of sleeping at home.

No religious war here, Islam is a living religion and the only sure way to paradise.
