People have been traveling in and out of Nigeria before Tinubu was even born. People all over the world are traveling and looking for better lives outside their countries. I left Nigeria in the late 80s, Tinubu was not in govt then.
Billions of people are leaving their countries of origin every year and looking for opportunities in other places. Chinese, Indians, Mexicans, and many more.
Nigeria with an exploding population without corresponding economic growth will see more people try to get out. The role of government is to provide basic utilities for Nigerians to create the GDP you talk about. You live in the West, and not even Elon Musk has to generate his power, and water, tar his roads, and provide his security. Not having to worry about fuel scarcity, corruption, local herdsmen and kidnappers allows him the free time to innovate and build a company like Tesla. He has access to credit facilities and doesn't need to worry about spending millions on bribes to get imports into the country.

We take a lot for granted in the West and simply harp on the average Nigerian picking themselves up by their bootstraps. If everything shouldn't be government, then let's not have one - sell the oil and give everybody his fair share so we can do what we want with it.

How do you know things work in other countries? You walk into a hospital and everything you need is there—no noise, no "commissioning", nothing. Do you know how much it costs to commission that machine? It's probably enough to have gotten a CT scanner.

The only way for Nigeria to grow is to start embarrassing our leaders for "commissioning" what mere primary health care centers everywhere else in the world take for granted.

My main challenge here is that after all my suffering of preparing and writing TEF (which set me back almost 3 years) IRCC sent me a PFL saying they can't verify my TEF language tests. I currently don't know what to do. I have reached out to Alliance française where I sat for the exams and they aren't forthcoming. Now I have a few more days before the 30 days I was given expires and all I have is the mails I got from the centre when I paid, the schedule they sent me and the mail I got when my result came out.

NB: In the mail I got for the result, I activated the result and changed my password then but what I noticed now is that when I log in now all I get is a blank white page which wasn't the case before now

That is different from having some years of work experience in painting. However, I feel the VO is just being her usual self... atleast would have allowed him explain further in details.

Notes: She asked a question after the first one which I cannot remember. But I stuttered at first, before gaining my balance. My response was tying what the degree will do for me back home. I remember I talked about taking a lecturing position.

Maybe I was anxious at first, I don't know. But I understand I answered every question.

I highlighted your problem in a nutshell. Your bachelor's degree was in History, but you are seeking a master's in Painting? How do those go together? You've essentially abandoned your first degree and only stumbled on your love for painting when you joined an internship. Yeah, you didn't prove that you were a genuine student.

I thought Nigeria was bad when I left in 2005. Compared to 2024, the Nigeria of the 1990s and early 2000s was a paradise.

Sometimes I feel these types of questions are more about letting everyone know you are traveling out. There is no way this is a genuine question that could be easily answered by looking at your ticket or Lufthansa's website.

My apologies but developed countries do not function on hope, sympathy, prayer, and a failure to plan. It is mean to consider utilizing social services that you have not paid into. The terms of your visa required you to not just have enough money to cover your child's birth, but any incidentals that may arise. Had you informed the VO that you wouldn't have enough to cover a potential NICU stay, your visa would have been denied. Would the VO be "so mean" in that case?

I am baffled as to why you would be asking for "the way forward"? Can you not borrow money from family, or friends, sell assets, or get a loan from a Nigerian bank? My only guess is that you were anticipating someone would have an idea how you could discharge your debts with minimal impact on you (screw others who have to pay higher taxes and insurance premiums to cover for that) - trust me, we don't plan for that either.

God has given us all the tools to be able to weather these kinds of storms. In sane countries, this would likely never happen, or fire services would have been able to render services quickly... and all shop owners would have their losses insured already. We totaled a car a few months ago and insurance paid us enough to buy another brand-new car a few weeks later... minimal to no fuss.

There are few things you can do.

1. Take a payment plan. It can be as low as $500 monthly.

2. Ask the Case Manager for low income financial waiver application. This way, you might get those bills waived.


Hospitals are non-profits, so there are forms/ applications that low income earners can fill to have their medical bills reduced or waived.

Do not use medicaid.

Tell them you’re a non-immigrant and not entitled to state/ federal benefits. They might want to make the Medicaid application for your child, inform them that you cannot take it as it would jeopardize your chances of bringing your child back when you leave.

If they are adamant and would not let you fill out the application, make a post here let me see if that’s the case.

Not true. Most large US hospitals are for-profit. The OP's hospital, HCA, is owned by HCA Healthcare Inc. and is quoted on the US stock exchange - the stock price is $343.29.

People like OP who obtain "discount" services are why the rest of us must pay outrageous medical costs every year to cover the losses.

If you were truthful about your ability to pay when applying for a visa, you would not have been in this position in the first place.

What you should do:

1. Ask the hospital to give you a full accounting of your bill.
2. Ask the hospital for a payment plan
3. Get your husband to gather money - borrow from friends/family, take a loan, or sell property.

You can pay the bills, you're simply looking for an easy way out, cheating the US taxpayer. You are a classic example of why the Supreme Court will likely be asked to decide the 14th Amendment sooner rather than later. You can get Medicaid... then return to Nigeria, while the rest of us pick up the tab in the form of mandatory SS taxes that most of us would never qualify for, and increasing medical insurance premiums to cover your deficit.
