The untapped resources within Nigeria is too much. Nigeria isn’t currently gaining from most of its resources. If we try to divide, people who know the value of the resources will make us fight amongst ourselves and a civil war may ensue again. The only country on earth more resource rich than Nigeria is Congo.

He gave priorities to debt servicing, payment of salaries and funding overhead. Capital budget implementation suffered and that was his major pitfall. What could he have done better?

In 2025, we had a budget of N54Trillion and barely generated N10Trillion. So, what magic can he use to fill that kind of gap? Like I have said severally on this forum, fiscal discipline is a big issue we must address if we want to move the country forward. Sadly, political interest and citizens expectations keep making the Executive and our lawmakers to pass crazy budgets that can't be implemented. In 2026, we have passed another N68Trillion budget that we all know can't be funded. National Assembly alone padded the 2026 budget with about N10Trillion through constituency projects. So, what magic do you want the Finance Minister to perform?

Wale Edun has done his best. He came in at a time when 97% of our revenue was going into debt service and net foreign reserve was barely $3billion. Today, Our revenue can now adequately take care of our debt servicing, salaries, pension and overhead. He steadied the economy and returned us back to the path of growth. Taiwo Oyedele who took over from him is also a very brilliant guy. He lectured me at Wyse in 2009 and I know he is very solid. This is the time for him to bring his brilliance and years of experience to bear in managing the fiscal side of our economy. Let's see how he can manage the actual financial reality with political and citizens interest.

1. He is the architect of Terrorism in Nigeria 🇳🇬 as it was in his regime that permitted the full scale practice of Sharia Law. He gave Ahmad Sani Yerima approval to practice Sharia in Zamfara and it was eventually accepted to run in 12 Northern States. He was an incompetent President who said “I approved it because it will die a natural death.”

2. Nigeria officially lost the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon following a 2002 International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling and a subsequent agreement in 2006 under his nose because he was busy pursuing a selfish agenda of second term at the time and a place in AU

3. This criminal violated human rights rights severally using military force in a democratic dispensation:

Odi massacre: The military operation in Odi, Bayelsa State, which involved the razing of the town and the killing of hundreds (possibly thousands) of civilians, occurred in November 1999.
Zaki Biam massacre: The killing of more than 200 unarmed civilians by the army in several communities in Benue State (often collectively referred to as the Zaki Biam massacre) occurred in October 2001. 

4. So many corruption cases sprung up from 1999 - 2007 including the Obasanjo’s personal endless corrupt practices centred around building of his Obasanjo Presidential Library, Bells University among others.

5. Obasanjo practically installed his successor in an election that was noted for massive irregularities and malpractices. This administration he installed gave birth to the Boko Haram terrorists which he once went to visit in Borno state without any reasonable head way.

6. He had the opportunity to RESET Nigeria in the early stage of a new democracy, but he went about victimising oppositions, pursuing selfish agendas and looking for unnecessary international recognition at the detriment of Nigeria’s future.

I will stop here for now. Let’s not even talk about his tenure as military head of state.
