A 15th Russian commander has been killed in battle as President Putin’s forces suffer their worst loss of military brass since the Second World War, Ukrainian army sources have said.

Colonel Alexei Sharov is said to have died fighting Ukrainian soldiers who are resisting Russian occupation of the besieged coastal city of Mariupol. He was the commander of the 810th Guards Separate Order of Zhukov Brigade, an elite branch of the Russian Marines stationed in Sevastopol, Crimea. Sharov is the fifth colonel to be killed in the conflict and joins five generals as well as a number of other top-ranked officers who have died.

Putin is almost certainly a psychopath, and has been described as such by several mental health professionals (see quotes below). There are two main types of psychopath - the charismatic charming kind, and the abrasive bullying type. He’s the latter.

There’s something called the PCL-R, which is a list of 20 characteristics that professionals use to help diagnose psychopathy. They also use reliable background information provided by institutions, family members etc.

Much background information on Putin exists in multiple books and news reports. Looking at the characteristics and the available background information (though a lot of it has clearly been hidden, such as a tell-all book by his wife which has completely disappeared from existence, ‘'Vladimir Putin: The road to Power', by Oleg Blotsky) an extremely psychopathic personality emerges.

Let’s list a few of his characteristics - emotionally cold, lying, manipulative, grandiose (rules don’t apply to him, parading around on horseback, that big table, the palace, alleged billions of loot), lacking remorse, lacking empathy, blames others, uses others for his own ends (parasitic), had a thuggish adolescence, is criminally versatile, is irresponsible (how he treats the Russian populace, threat of nuclear war, other examples in biographies I’ve read e.g. alleged diversion of meat shipment from population).

What’s kept hidden from us: does he need thrills or constant busyness to counteract the boredom, is he impulsive (allegedly he took and kept a superbowl ring – look it up), does he have realistic long-term goals (total power for Putin – is that realistic?), does he have poor behavioural controls (usually hidden from public view), does he have multiple affairs?

As for his mask - before the plastic surgery it was crap. He could barely keep the semblance of a pleasant smile in place. And there were endless mask-slips - looks of contempt, sneers, smirks, cold and calculating looks, mocking glances. Now his mask is a bit better after the surgery, though barely suppressed smirks still get through.

My guess is that after the collapse of the Soviet Union the pathocrats still left in some positions of power went talent-spotting for one of their own kind, and having found such a person, a seemingly grey non-entity, they then ‘guided’ him to a place of supreme power where he would look after their interests.

The world needs to wake up to pathology and pathocracy. A full-blown pathocracy would be a totalitarian state. Russia’s not totalitarian, but it’s not such a big leap away. Russia appears to be a covert semi-pathocracy.

UPDATE: Just found an article titled 'Former Aide Says Putin Has No Strategic Plans' at time (dot) com. According to him Putin effectively lives in the moment, with no strategic plans, and can get very enthusiastic about projects and then drop them with no explanation. These are classic characteristics of psychopathy.

Lobaczewski wrote that these psychological cycles begin when the privileged classes (e.g. the political class, the upper middle class, a racial group, a religious class) block out inconvenient truths (e.g. extreme inequalities, injustices, exclusion) by using egotism, emotionalism and twisted logic. Over several generations this ‘hysteria’ spreads across society and society becomes fevered, fractured and paralyzed. In this atmosphere psychological sickness is no longer seen for what it is and eventually the most pathologically egotistical of all ‘spellbinders’ (populists) comes to power, often taking the nation into tragedy (e.g. wars, social collapse). For a decade or two around this period (since underlying social problems take decades to disappear) there is also the possibility that a group of pathological individuals ends up in control, forming a ‘pathocracy’, with the spellbinder or his replacement in a leadership role. Psychopaths within this group coalesce into an informal network behind the scenes and assume covert control, and the pathocracy reaches its final form and becomes totalitarian. Fully-fledged or nearly fully-fledged pathocracies include Hitler’s Germany, Stalin’s Russia, Pol Pot’s Cambodia and Mao’s China. This is why all totalitarian states look the same behind their different ‘ideological masks’. It's a pity that some people are supporting this Russia invasion which must be stopped by all means. It will be very bad for the whole world if Putin succeed because it will put China in a good position to attack Taiwan. All these kinds of atrocity must be stopped by all means. It's very unfortunate that alot of people commenting here are not following this war in real time. I said it earlier that Russia made a mistake by invading Ukraine that is a sovereign nation with mainly tankers and APCs because they will be sitting ducks in their Tanks. If this war is going well for them, why then are they retreating . I said it that the next moves will be to start targeting ships and it has happened. I wonder what will happen now that the west wants to give them anti ship missiles. Russia will never win as long as NATO is backing Ukraine. Over 10,000 Russian Soldiers dead which includes 5 top generals with over 15,000 wounded. Now Russia is launching cruise missiles from their faraway ships. Now Belarus want to join the war and help Russia out which signifies defeat. There is no reason for PUTIN to invade a sovereign nation no matter what. Russia should go and ID their over 350 soldiers packed in a cooling system somewhere in Ukraine. Mariupol has now become a fortress.

In Russia, coming up with an accurate tally is even harder, due to government regulations that have clamped down on independent reporting--and even made uttering the words "war" and "invasion" a potentially criminal offense.

But in the Belarusian regions bordering Ukraine, residents and medical workers have reported a rising tide of corpses and maimed servicemen being shipped out of Ukraine and then sent elsewhere for further treatment -- or burial.

More than 2,500 soldiers' corpses had already been shipped from the Homel region back to Russia by trains or by plane as of March 13, according to one employee of the Homel regional clinical hospital.

Like all the people who spoke with RFE/RL, this individual asked not to be named out of fear of retribution or prosecution by Belarusian or Russian security agencies.

The figure could not be independently verified.

'It Was Unbelievable How Many Corpses There Were'

Ukraine's military claims that more than 14,000 Russians have been killed since Russia launched the invasion on February 24 --a number that is much higher than most independent estimates. The military has not released formal casualty figures, saying it is a state secret, but President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said last week that about 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed.

Russia's Defense Ministry, meanwhile, claims that more than 2,870 Ukrainians soldiers and paramilitary fighters have been killed, and around 3,700 wounded. Its only official tally of Russian casualties came on March 2, when the ministry said that 498 soldiers had been killed and 1,597 wounded.

Earlier this week, U.S. intelligence put the Russian military death toll at more than 7,000 -- and said that is a conservative estimate.

One place to look for evidence of Russian military deaths is the Homel region: Wedged into southeastern Belarus, it borders Russia to the east and Ukraine to the south. The city of Homel is Belarus's largest after Minsk, and a major hub for trade and transport.

Under strongman leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Belarus has increasingly become a vassal state of Russia, according to experts. Lukashenka has voiced strong backing for Russia's war, allowed deployment of major Russian military units in the country, and threatened to send Belarusian forces into Ukraine.

Before the invasion, tens of thousands of Russian troops were positioned close to the Ukrainian border. An unknown number of them crossed from the Homel region and pushed south toward Kyiv, but they have advanced slowly and suffered substantial losses.

In Mazyr, whose population is around 100,000, the city's only morgue was overflowing with corpses as of March 3, according to eyewitnesses. "It was unbelievable how many corpses there were," said one Mazyr resident who frequently drives through the city and nearby areas for business.

He said he had seen many "black sacks" being loaded from military ambulances onto Russian railway cars. "Passengers at the Mazyr train station were shocked by the number of corpses being loaded on the train," he said. "After people started shooting video, the military caught them and ordered them to remove it."

In Homel, the regional capital, a laboratory for the city's main hospital was refitted earlier this month, with existing equipment being moved out and beds and other medical equipment being brought in, residents said.

Homel residents told RFE/RL that wounded Russian soldiers were being brought to three separate medical facilities in the city, including one specializing in cancer treatment.

A doctor at Mazyr's main city hospital told RFE/RL that the facility was now under guard by police and security agencies, and that doctors had been threatened with firing if they spoke about conditions. The doctor said that all physicians on staff, even those from more specialized professions, had been tasked with treating wounded Russians.

"There are not enough surgeons. Earlier, the corpses were transported by ambulances and loaded on Russian trains," the doctor said. "After someone made a video about it and it went on the Internet, the bodies were loaded at night so as not to attract attention."

At Hospital No. 4 in Homel, officials began to discharge current patients on March 1 in order to make room for wounded Russians, according to multiple residents whom RFE/RL spoke to. "There are so many wounded Russians there -- it's just a horror. Terribly disfigured. It is impossible to listen to their moans throughout the whole hospital," said one resident who was treated in the Homel hospital.

Another Homel doctor said there was growing concern among city residents that there could be shortage of everyday medications for the general population. "People are panicking, but so far there is [medical] help and there is enough medicine. What will happen next is still unknown," the doctor said. "It's likely there will be problems with anti-tetanus drugs."

Tetanus is a common ailment afflicting soldiers suffering from shrapnel and bullet wounds.

At Homel's Center for Radiation Medicine, about 400 Russian troops are currently being treated, according to employees. The influx of troops has also prompted at least one hospital employee to call for donations -- of diapers, wet wipes, soap, shampoo, water, cookies, and clothes to help the soldiers.

Hanna Krasulina, a spokeswoman for exiled Belarusian opposition leader Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya, told Ukrainian television on March 2 that morgues in Mazyr were crowded with dead Russian servicemen, some of them from Chechnya.

"We must inform both the Chechens and the Russians that the Belarusian morgues in the south of Belarus are already being filled with the corpses of their soldiers," she said. "This is important to let them know. We will not allow Russian propaganda to hide it."
