Good morning guru. Please I want to ask this question, I was admitted and also was offered a half RA position by the physics dpt however,In my I-20 and my admission letter the major was written to be Nanotechnology, base on the fact that my previous DS 160 my major has always been physics. How do I tell the Vo that I'm still going for physics. Thanks

Hello Guys, I had my interview today at window 5 around 11:55am at Lagos Consulate. The VO lady looks like an half cast but unfortunately I was denied based on strong ties. Here is how the interview went
VO: What are you going to do in US
Me: I am going for my masters degree
VO: what course is that
Me: Project Management
VO:How many schools did you apply to
Me: 3 schools and I named them all. Northeastern university, Illinois state university and Morgan state university. And gave a reason why I chose Morgan state
VO: What course will you take
Me: I mentioned the courses as it is on my university's website
VO: How are you funding your education
Me: Personal savings and I have a sponsor to support me
VO: How is your sponsor to you and what does your sponsor do
Me: Told her he is uncle and he is a senior manager at ..... Mentioned the company
VO: have you travelled before
VO: No I haven't
Then she told me to do biometrics and told me unfortunately my visa won't be approved but i can check the reason on the sheet. Which I saw it was based on strong ties to my home country
So my question now is, how will I be screen for home ties when at first she didn't even ask me what do I intend to do after my program and related questions that had to do with me not returning.
Despite I have an official letter from my HR to the consulate about granting me study leave to complete my study and return back to duty which I plan presenting if its been asked but to my greatest surprise it wasn't asked at all. Plus she never asked about bank statements despite I told her I have a sponsor and am also sponsoring myself as well which its all indicated on my i 20.
Please guys kindly help look into this situation and advice what I did wrong or what I could have done in reverse and suggestions on when I can reapply for a new appointment.

Reason for chosen your school! you told her.
Why can't you be explicit so that gurus we look
Into the reasons you gave. You are hiding many things you said in your interview here. How do you expect gurus to contribute in order for you to re-package yourself for the next one.

$500 is just good enough for rent
It will taxed by the state and federal government
So the money might end up being around $400 per month.

It's better than nothing but certainly you need another source of funds for eating and surviving.
Okay. Thank you for the info. Atleast The research assistnship can also serve as one of the strong points of choosing my school during my visa interview. I don't depend on that pay at all

bigfrancis21:

That is approximately $500 per month, which is not too bad. 15 hours per week is a little more than 'half' assistantship because full assistantship is 20 hours per week and half is 10 hours per week so your appointment is 5 hours extra.

Your appointment is an hourly paid position, though. The amount is enough to foot some of your bills. Yes, so go ahead and accept it if you haven't already.
Thank you brother for the elaboration.
I have accepted it already I am just waiting for. The official letter which will be ready in roughly one week two days time.

@house
Please are there schools where you can apply for Admission with an uploaded GRE Score?
or has anyone used this approach.

At least for the admission process... I don't see myself dashing ETS $25 not to talk of Application fees....

lastly, do i really need TOEFL to secure GA/TA etc..... especially when it is waived for admission..
What's name of your school?
Let's see. I think there are some schools that waive application fee for some students

Thanks a lot. But the stamping of passport, is it really necessary, what's the yellow paper, which is cheaper, stamping of passport or not.
Thanks
Not necessary. If you Can board a taxi at most
10,000 cfs. You can cross the boarder to the bank. No body will disturb you. The stamping is incase you want to pass through normal process. Yellow paper is for health they often ask for it before you cross. However, with a taxi no one will ask you such. Taxi man will settle them before crossing. All you will do is just relax inside the taxi.

Are you in Lagos? If yes ,find your way to mile 2.enter motor going to seme.when you get to seme. You have two options of crossing the boarder, either you pass through the normal stamping of your passport and showing your yellow paper or boarding a taxi entering cotonu
Then tell the taxi man that you want to go to ecobank. The bank is along the road not too far from seme boarder. Enter the bank tell the security man that you want to pay for sevis fee
He will direct you were to do that
Documents to show :
Printed coupon
Copy of your passport
And sevis number.
I hope these info may help you.

Please my school said I should be in school by Jan 12th and I received my i-20 on Friday. I just applied for my interviewed and was given Jan 12th. I was denied August when I wanted to go during the Fall semester. I intend applying for emergency request but it says it is limited only to applicants who have not been refused a visa within the last six months at either the U.S. Embassy in Abuja or the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos.
Please what do I do?
I don't know what you are just talking, the first available date in lagos is dec 14. You can cansel your appointment and reschedule to any closer date. It would cause you another money though.
