Yes you didnt mention illegal immigration first but when the guy said it, i quickly corrected his statement and your comment was very aggressive at me, you said: WHAT RUBBISH!!!! UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS if picked up stand the risk of getting deported back to where they came from - whether they committed a crime or not, end of quote, and that is why people that supported what i said are also jumping at you. Anyway, never mind, we are here to learn and still learning. Anyway, You are the best.

i do apologize my words may have been aggresive and it was your response that made me see that, poor choice of words but it wasnt meant to be personal,

i dont mind disagreeing with anyone on this board or "people jumpin gon my back" -we will not see things the same way- that is what helps to promote ideas and innovation and makes a dull work day go by fast-

but, it is true, illegal immigrants stand the risk of being deported- what is wrong about saying that

I've just been watching you rant and rant and foam at the mouth like a rabid raccoon. . . . YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!!

just because you may not agree with what am saying does not mean i do not know what am talking about- if am ranting and raving at least in your response you can show me what its like to be civil and have a smooth discourse on the subject at hand,

kingoflag:

I doubt anyone one will want to go through the pains and troubles of trying to deport someone back to a Country run by a Govt they were protesting against. Why, so the Govt can kill them off after seeing their faces on National TV?

Chill, let people express themselves. After all, this is The United States and not Syria

your doubt is what will make you an example of the overreaching of a governemnt action- who the hell cares what you doubt the government will do- if there is a law on book the govenernemt is entitled to enforce it in any manner they see fit- (i doubt that police officers will risk their jobs and lie and committ crimes BUT THEY DO )
you make it seem as if it is an impossibility- what the us is going through now is not what they went through in the 90s- this country is having difficulty syustaining itself- they are not looking to feed and care for people they are not responsible for, hello, do you follow the news? there is a tightening of the immigration laws - what interest is an undocummented??

kingoflag:

P.S: The U.S Supreme Court actually has a ruling that noncitizens are not entitled to have federal courts rule on their "selective enforcement" claims "before" their deportation hearings are held. However, keep in mind that the Respondents in that case were Palestinian Members of the PLF.

i dont follow the significance of what this is supposed to mean, what was the selective enforecement? actually re-reading what you wrote it seems to be a ruling in favor for the govenrment to continue with a deportation although those being deported raised a selective enforecement claim- (whatever that it), so i dont see how it supports your argument

goshen360:

Well, we are not arguing back and forth. Simple truth, as far as NY is concern, police will never stop and check you without any information or something fishing. Also if you dont commit crime or fraud. This is the simple truth and

that is a bold and incorrect statement you made- you simply do not know what you are talking about and you are not abreast of current events in NEW YORK, PERIOD, police officers do it that is no secret , I WAS in a car that was stopped for NO REASON except the police officers wanted to see who was inside the car i was in, this was in NEW YORK,

goshen360:

Am just saying i live here so that make me know the law here and i can correct any wrong information that undocumented dont have the right to protest due to their status, very simple. I have friends that even commited minor offences without residence and where never deported

i am not saying that undocs dont have the right to protest- i am sayin gmaybe you shoul dconcentrate on becoming legal FIRST before doing something that could jeopardize your chance of getting legal status, it is FOOLHARDY to bring attention upon yourself that can potentially get you deported if you are not legal, you having friends who committed minor offenses- i do not know what you mean by that and i dod not know their legal status, but it is quite DUMB to take the chance to get into trouble with the law if you are not a legal resident,

goshen360:
Law prevails in the US and that is what Nigeria should also work on. I rest my case. I will join the protest.

law prevails in US and in some cases it does not, do not make it seem as if US is the holy grail because it is not, corruption abounds in US (not just by nigerians- but by actual americans as well), crimes abound in US, bruh, you can protest am not stopping you!!!!!!!!!!

^^ i dont see why anybody will raise the point of illegal immigrants when we are talking about protests. Thats just bad belle. Unless u have seen a case in britain or new york where protestors have been arrested for ilegally entering the country then you have brought up an irrelevant point.

these are people (illegal or otherwise) living in a 100x more comfortable a country yet still taking time out to protest for those that are suffering. What does anybodies status have to do with this?

i wasnt the person who mentioned illegal immigrants, i just made a comment on it,

AGAIN, illegal or not, you can do whatever the blazes you feel like doing- it doesnt pain me, am just saying that the reality of things is that it would be foolhardy of one whether naija, spanish, asian, whatever, quite foolhardy to bring unnecessary attention to yourself when your status is not sure, (these sort of public events - you arenot in control of what may happen) i tell ya it would be very ironic if you get deported BACK to the place you were trying to avoid being in by hiding in a foreign country with illegal status, am sure we are just talking for talking sake bc i dont even see a naija undoc coming out to do any protesting- lets keep it real,

You have just raise unnecessary argument here. I stand by my word. People perish for lack of knowledge while other fear for unknown. We are talking about New York and Nigeria house in New York, not protesting against government of the US. Every state in the United States are bind by their immigration law under the federal law. New York state is not a state anti-immigrant state unlike some core white states. If you are talking about core white states here on this subject of protesting, then i will agree with you. I live in New York and know this thing. Infact, NY survive by undocumented immigrants. Do you know how many undocumented are here in NY that still express their protest in occupied wall street. If fear is your issue, it's not mine.

NIGERIA HOUSE is in NEW YORK and not subject to the laws of Nigeria but that of New York and the USA.  When i made my comment, it wasnt to stop anyone from doing what they want to do, i just wanted to point out that it is a fallacy that will put one in SERIOUS trouble to think that as an undocummneted immigrant one can live anyhow they feel or bring irresponsible attention upon themselves,

if you live in new york you will know that there have been complaints by civil liberty groups about police officers randomly targeting black and hispanic (males) at a greater number than their white counterparts, this is police action, and most times it is substantiated by nothing more than the police making the excuse that the person fit a descritption,

all to say that an undocumneted person NEED NOT BE COMMITTING A CRIME other than being a BLACK PERSON minding their business and they can STILL be subjected to a police stop.  That police stop can turn into a detention which could lead to a removal to federal custody if it is found that you are an UNDOCUMMENTED ILLEGAL ALIEN.  YOU DO NOT BELONG!!!! end of discussion.    NOt meant to scare anyone but that is the reality of things,

what rights do you then have? sure, you were illegally stopped- but that is not going to clean the fact that you are an illegal with no rights to even be in the country,

long story short- you can protest regardless of your immigration status. your unlikely to be checked for your status unless u are doing something unlawful

i must point out those being picked up at stratford station were probably travelling without a valid ticket. over courageous if u ask me

so once again dont be discouraged by bad belle people trying to make u feel bad, u can live life to the fullest without papers, so long as u stay out of trouble!

the point in my comment wasnt to discourage people from participating- but to caution this noise about undoc immigrants being able to live in foreign countries with total abandon, word to the wise, take if you want - if you are an undoc immigrant YOU DO NOT WANT TO BRING ABOUT ATTENTION ON YOURSELF THAT will question your status,

@ugobabe

You ask what effect Nigerians protesting in Western countries have on the issues back home. I'll tell you how it helps: for one thing it brings the issues burning back home to the forceful notice of the government of the country where the protest happens; it sensitizes the people of that country, wins sympathy and builds a quiet, powerful, clamour as the local people add their voices--- this gives our problem a global shape, and global means more pressure on the Jonathan administration; if all Nigerians in the different countries in the West hold their own protests, that not only gives the Nigerians protesting at home the courage to soldier on, knowing Nigerians outside of our shores feel, empathize, with the problems back home, it also makes the effect of our protests multi-fanged, so that it seems that the Jonathan administration is being attacked from every direction all at once. Eventually it would cause the home government to switch sides (if they have been on Jonathan's) if we make enough noise, and show that all Nigerians share a collective humanity, a collective heart, and if my brother or sister suffers at home, I suffer wherever I am anywhere in the world.
This is why we protest. I hope you will join.

I STARTED ASKING THIS QUESTION WHEN THEre was talk about naijas in jand protesting near a tube station- so let me ask it again, WHAT EFFECT do nigerians in the diaspora hope to accomplish by protesting in western countries? I understand we may empathize with the cause at home, but how in the world is that effective? what does it do to help the cause on ground in Nigeria?

Subsidy removal is not an issue which effects the global community- it directly effects day nigerians, its not a problem that is directly brought upon by western interference- this is about poor nigerian leadership- so why in the world are we taking our cause to the streets outside of nigeria?? i dont think Egyptians did that when they were doing their protests, or the Libyans, why are we washing our dirty laundry in public?

sad to read the mindset of some of you posters, pleeze not everyone based in US is against the bill, I support wholehartedly, are there more pressing issues that shouldve been tackled? you betcha!! but that doesnt change the fact that we have this proposed law, and as such i support it hoha, the bill as i understand it is not against homosexuals- it is against homosexual unions and yes, we have a right to stand agasint it, just becuase it seems to be the international thing to legitimize homosexuality in all arenas does not mean that NIGERIANS have to take part and smile upon homoseual activity- especially as it concerns marriage-

this is not backward, primative, etc etc of Nigerians- am glad we are taking and maintaining our stand,

and for those who ask why are we looking into the activity that grown people do behind closed doors, UM HELLO!!! are u friking serious? it is homose!uals who force us to know what they are doing, sex!ual activity should be private, when ga!ys come out - they cram their nonsence down our throat forcing us to acknowledge what they do,

ideology, a man dies but once in a lifetime as all will die one way or

theft. He is a leader in this continent who had used the wealth of a
nation for common good, the citizens never suffered economically under
him but their suffering just began as they refused to learn from what
befell Iraq after illegal US invasion, their oil is being taken for
free now by US and allies to compensate for the money spent during the
war & help US rendered to kill their own man for few to be called
Governors,PM & Presidents.I dont know why they could not leave oil
rich Arab nation alone, or is it by force to adopt every system they
practice?.This
is another way the west is brewing terrorists because any aggrieved
Libyans whose parents, friends & family died during the illegal
warfare may not forgive the west and may want to revenge or avenge the
unjust killings, if you ask of chief terrorist, take west a chief terrorists and they should stop those whom they oppressed terrorists.

I bet you those who were used by the west to kill this man & other
innocent civilians in the name of democracy for economic gains will
regret their actions in future, real colonization of libya has just
began, the oil is now of the west and people will now become an alien in
their father land."It is an Africa saying that when you allowed an
outsider to wage war & kill your own brother you have exposed
yourself to control & ridicule".Just probe into what is happening
in Iraq now you will reason that west is just a parasite that only
feeds on the host by force.I bet you if Nigeria govt refuses the West

than few months. i pray to Almighty God to spare us from oppressors of

their own set goals, Amen.

While I was concentrating on how and what should be done to solve the issue of mass Unclothedness in our films which obviously the Nigerian populace has a part to play - you diverted the topic. I'll tell you.

Yes I really understand what you mean but you see in today's world ignorance or negligence of your duty is not an excuse, families that grossly indulge in watching homes vids are likely to fall prey to unexpected violent or Unclad scenes bc the they don't take their time to find out which label the vid is attached to. A parent, elder brother or sister should be wise enough to dictate what should be viewed by all, except in the case where all members of the family are adults, so where adequate checks are lacking the unexpected is likely to occur.

Haven't you experienced a scenario where the whole family are glued to the TV screen, all of a sudden, one oga or madam with the remote control or even one of the kids immediately fast forwards an offending scene, because one black Ghanaian actress used her knees to lift a male Joystick or even worse, I don't know if you sense the discomfort on their faces?

Families have their own part to play. To be very frank with you those stuffs are labeled, the problem isn't not broad its very narrow and so is the solution!

BEATING A DEAD HORSE, but this is beyond about parental supervision,

if the censoring labels were effective, parents could rely on that and do their job, what the copmplaint is is that there isnt anything that equips the parents to do their jobs effectivily, there are hardly any censors on videos that need to be censored, its a different matter if there are adequate censor labels that are being ignored-(then thats on the parents/elders)

so this is not an issue of blaming parents for not doing their jobs- this is beyond that,
