Senator Danjuma Goje has withdrawn from the 9th Senate Presidency election expected to hold on June 11.

The lawmaker also endorsed the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, for the position.

This was disclosed by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, after their meeting behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday.

Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha, has announced plan to move against ex-Governor Rochas Okorocha, and others he said were still holding public properties.


Ihedioha said he would write to the security agencies to recover all Imo government belongings.

National Examination Council (NECO) has scrapped the use of scratch cards, for the conduct of its Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE).

Chairman of the NECO board, Abubakar Saddiq, confirmed this on Friday during the commissioning of the equipment and unveiling of 20 Toyota Hilux Vans purchased by the agency, in Minna, Niger State.

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board JAMB, on Friday released 4,536 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results, which were withheld for allegations of multiple identities of candidates and other infractions.

JAMB said the release of 4,536 out of a total 4,760 withheld results followed the decision of a committee set up to examine the multiple facial identities.



The board noted that the facial match recognition was carried out by its specialised software and Information Technology experts.

Over 1.8million candidates had sat for the examination between April 11 and April 18, with the release of over 1,792,000 results on May 11.

All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has re-elected Dr Victor Oye as its national chairman for a second term.

The party also retained the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, as its Chairman Board of Trustees, BoT, while in a surprise move, Chukwuemeka Ojukwu Jnr, son of the late leader of the party who had earlier moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC), was also named a member of the BoT.

The main opposition candidate Of the People Democratic Party PDP in the February presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, has explained his decision to request that the President of the Court of Appeal, Zainab Bulkachuwa, withdraws from the presidential election petition tribunal.

Mr Abubakar and his party, PDP, are challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the election. They asked Mrs Bulkachuwa to withdraw from the five-member panel she headed. They based their demand on Mrs Bulkachuwa’s relationship with an APC leader. Her husband is a Bauchi senator-elect on the APC platform.

On Wednesday, the tribunal ruled against Mr Abubakar and the PDP. It said both parties could not prove the possibility of bias against the judge and that Mrs Bulkachuwa’s husband was not a party to the suit.

Despite the ruling of the tribunal, however, Mrs Bulkachuwa refused herself from the panel on ‘personal grounds.’

The Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday uncovered plans by some individuals to disrupt the inauguration of the Governor-elect, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on May 29, 2019.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Jamil Sarham, has claimed that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, declared war against him for rejecting his (Wike’s) billions of naira bribe.

Two out of three pre-mature babies delivered at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State have been allegedly eaten to death by ants.

Our findings revealed that the mother had a pre-term labour, this was after she fought with her neighbor in their compound.

An eyewitness, who gave her name as Antonia said, “When the babies were born, the Director General (DG) State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu was immediately contacted.

“The DG directed that the babies and the mother be immediately transferred to a facility that has incubator, unfortunately, the General Hospital there has no such facility, so they were referred to a private hospital in Ikom,” she said.

Disappointingly, the hospital said they have no generator, the DG ordered for a generator, provided fuel for the generator and the babies were kept in the incubator in the Hospital.

It was gathered that the monies being sent for the upkeep of the children were allegedly mismanaged by the father and also the babies were allegedly neglected by the hospital such that ants got into their incubator, which led to the death of two out of the three babies.

The Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike has accused the Nigerian Army of running illegal bunkering in Rivers State.



The governor accused Jamil Sarham, the general officer commanding the Army’s 6 Division in Port Harcourt, of raising a team of soldiers to steal and sell petroleum products in the region.

“The GOC has his own team now doing oil bunkering for him because he wants to be chief of army staff,” Mr Wike said while receiving a team of military personnel from ‘Operation Delta Safe’ on Wednesday. “If you give that kind of person chief of army staff, what kind of security would we have in this country?”

“He cannot be removed here because they know the role he is playing for them: sabotaging our security architecture,” the governor added.



Mr Wike said Mr Sarham, a major-general, regularly divulges confidential security briefings to criminals, and the military leadership’s reluctance in removing him was deliberate.

“We would have security meeting, he will release it to criminals,” Mr Wike said. “And chief of army staff will leave the man here because he is playing their role.”

Mr Wike said he has been leading security efforts to “reduce crime to the barest minimum,” in Rivers, which
ranks amongst Nigeria’s most volatile states. But the army constitutes an obstacle for success, he alleged.

The ‘Operation Delta Safe’ is a joint-security patrol of the Niger Delta region, where cases of oil theft and disruption of oil installations are regularly reported. The courtesy visit to Mr Wike was led by Akinjide Akinrinade, a naval rear admiral and overall head of the operation.



Mr Wike said it would be difficult for ‘Operation Delta Safe’ to arrest military personnel sent on oil bunkering mission if they encountered one another in the creeks.

The governor did not provide any evidence to substantiate his allegations. His media adviser, Oraye Franklin, said he has nothing to add to the governor’s comments.

Mr Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, has made unsubstantiated allegations in the past against Buhari administration officials and security chiefs. Following the discovery of a cash haul in Ikoyi in April 2017, Mr Wike claimed the money belonged to Rivers State, having allegedly been plundered by his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi.
