fabuloz1:Great post! Just had an idea that I think will end election rigging in Nigeria. Once the vote count is done at Polling Unit level (i.e. each ballot is sighted & signed by party agents as witnessed by remaining voters), the election official should be required to upload that photo to INEC website & each major party's agent should confirm the image (similar to MMM). Any not fully confirmed is set aside as under dispute & subject to further investigation. For all confirmed PU results, electronic collation (basically data entry) can now take place. Results will then be announced in less than 24hrs after final collation is done. What do think? |
This reminds me of every episode of Dragos Den #junkie Bottom line: there's no standard formula. The tougher negotiator of the two parties, wins. Simple as that...or both parties walk away!(inventors are usually desperate for investors tho) |
AnanseK:**** just a few things: 1. How's 10 Feb 2010 - 29 May 2015 (5 years 3 mths) equal to six years?!! Go school, you no gree! 2. As at 15 May 2016, every objective person, now knows the work NOI did for Nigeria. How's your way-above-her-head Kemi Adeosun doing? Most clueless Finance Minister ever. Everything's in a free fall. Enjoy the "corrupt-free" Nigeria with price hikes and padded budget. Iranu |
cold:Dude, it's Cavalry not Calvary (where Jesus was crucified). I used to make the same mistake...just saying |
Chinom:Wrong! Major reason for the gridlock: the crumbling infrastructure that has reached its elastic limit. There has been no major upgrade in road infrastructure since the oil boom of the 1970s when Lagos had a population of just 1.4 million. Today, at 22 million and with roughly the same road capacity, it's clear for all to see that we have reached breaking point. The Centre of Excellence is busting at its seams to the detriment of everyone (economy inclusive). Solution: a major overhaul of public infrastructure and decentralization of commerce. And yes, population control! |

I've been following U.S politics for a very long time. So you can imagine the incredulity to which I greeted that part of PMB's op-ed where he implied took several months to pick a cabinet. Obama announced MOST of his nominations in Dec. 2008 as President-elect. Most got confirmation within the first week of his swearing-in. PMB's handlers goofed in trying to draw similarities using wordplay such as "full cabinet several months after". That's pure mischaraterization of Obama's first term & I'm not sure he'll approve of that. (Obama wanted to hit the ground running, at least appear to). If you want to take 4 months to pick a cabinet, fine, just state your genuine reasons. What you shouldn't do is try to be disingenuous by roping in the POTUS. My two cents. |
THE FAULT IN OUR STARS by John Green "Pain demands to be felt" (An Imperial Affliction) "Abraham Maslow, I present to you Augustus Waters, whose existential curiosity dwarfed that of his well-fed, well-loved, healthy brethren. While the mass of men went on leading thoroughly unexamined lives of monstrous consumption, Augustus Waters examined the collection of the Rijksmuseum from afar" |
Very interesting debate! My two cents: Nigeria is a failed state, agreed? Over 100 years since amalgamation but we still haven't gotten basic things (electricity, transport, public service) right...in fact, under the current dispensation (political system) we've mastered all the negatives (corruption, tribalism et al). In my humble opinion, we are at rock bottom. Things can't get much worse! That been said, of what risk is it trying out fresh and bold ideas from the most promising segment of the populace? The younger generation (below 40) have shown great intellectual vigor and an enterprising spirit (check out the number of successful young folks both home-based and abroad). Of course, every generation has its dreck, but that's largely due to the failed leadership of the elderly leaders. With the aforementioned, I've come to the conclusion that Nigerians should give a new set/brand of leaders a chance. And it shouldn't just be handed to them on a platter -- the new generation of leaders have to earn it, through the polls. |
Nasri100:While intensifying your networking, you might as well drop to 2:2, so you stand a better chance of getting in! *sarcasm alert* Honestly speaking, with the way we keep churning out graduates, some companies will soon start advertising for just 1st class grads only. Most times, the people that get the job from the whole pool of candidates are FC grads anyway. So better smart up. PS. I agree Masters can also give you an edge or at least be an equalizer for 2:2 folks. |
All these people rationalizing MEDIOCRITY are very silly. That you managed to secure a job with a 2:2 or 3rd class doesn't change the FACT that the job market is tougher for those without 1/2:1. For Christ's sake you can't even get in (most times) to prove your mettle. O&G, FMCG, Banks, multinationals etc. ALL require 2:1 or better at ENTRY-LEVEL. Only govt agencies and 2nd tier coys compromise on that standard. To buttress the point ThoniaSlim made, opportunities abound for First Class grads esp. For example, I know Delta state offers automatic Overseas scholarship to all indigenes that graduate with First Class. Even FG PRESSID amongst others. That's if you choose to further your studies. Most Engrg/science related guys are snapped up by oil coys n paid Millions. So to all aspiring graduates, try and make a FIRST CLASS at all costs - it truly makes a world of difference. |

PassingShot:So she sacrificed her reputation to serve her country and "do her best" rather than return to her enviable position at World Bank. You just made my point! Barth Nnaji is in his village with his integrity, while Prof. Nebo is calling the shots (For better or for worse; don't really understand power reforms). NOI has made a positive impact on the Nigerian economy. She's fought hard for many reforms. Some battles she won, some she lost understandably because she ain't an elected office holder. She published FAAC remittance to states. She introduced e-payments to eliminate graft via ghost workers. There was a time she even held up NASS members allowances. She has always been a vocal campaigner for greater punishment meted for corrupt officials (Her view of corruption is distinctly different from GEJ's own). My point is she did the best she could. Her legacy lives on. |
PassingShot:I respectfully disagree. Please view my earlier comment above. |
Volksfuhrer:I liked your comment and I agree with you almost entirely, save your last point. Whenever there's a conflict of opinion/principles/convictions in Service especially political appointees, one is left with two choices - resign or tarry and make the best out of it. If NOI had resigned in protest, GEJ would easily have appointed a more pliable minister e.g Aganga/Diezani/any other politician. One could argue that by staying on, NOI ensured a more competent, experienced hand was at the helms of affairs to limit the damage done. She has alluded to this in several interviews (she detests being an arm-chair critic; she'll rather shape the process in her own little way). |
bushdoc9919:Oh please stop being a Fashola apologist. BRF goofed big time! 1) He failed to acknowledge the fish seller (only 3 policemen) 2) Playing politics with such a sacred issue (life n death) is disgraceful and should be condemned by all 3) It seems Fashola is being found out now. Grossly overhyped by media n Lagosians alike. Not as intelligent as he was made to appear it seems |
