Crime / I Resigned As A Soldier To Concentrate On Kidnapping Valuable Ladies – Suspect by ugosonics: 9:41am On May 08, 2017
elta State Police Command has paraded the alleged leader of a 5-man kidnapping syndicate, one Mr. Tola Saliu, a 40-year-old former army lance corporal who was said to have specialised in the abduction of women riding flashy cars in Asaba and environs.

While speaking with newsmen, he said: “My victims have always been females. I have never gone for my kind. I kidnap valuable girls, ladies and women and this has never failed us. I resigned as a soldier to concentrate on kidnapping.” .

The state Commissioner of Police, Zanna Ibrahim, supported by his Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka, and the team of detectives, said the suspect had been a notorious kidnapper because of his military experience.

The commissioner said he was on the verge of beating the intelligence of his men on the day he was arrested “but his tactical withdrawal failed him and here we are today”.

Ibrahim said the suspect and his gang members, now at large, usually trail their victims to places of interest, including eateries, supermarkets, relaxation centres and schools, pounced on them and ferry them away in their waiting car.

Politics / Presidency Confirms Buhari To Be Flown Abroad For Treatment by ugosonics: 12:38pm On May 04, 2017
The Presidency has confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari will depart Nigeria for a medical leave abroad when the time is right. Personal assistant to President Buhari on social media Lauretta Onochie disclosed this on May 4th.
Onochie tweeted the information in reaction to the live interview of Adetokunbo Mumuni, the executive director of Socio-Economic Right Accountability Project (SERAP) on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily.

Onochie says it is wrong of Nigerians to share strong opinions on President Buhari’s health when they really know nothing about it – She says President Buhari is working daily because the presidency is a team and not just about one man .

Onochie implored Nigerians to believe the submission of the president’s wife about her husband’s health because naturally she should know

Politics / Fayose Rules Out Senatorial Ambition In 2019, Says “I Won’t Contest Again by ugosonics: 9:06am On May 03, 2017
Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, says he is not eyeing either Vice Presidential or senatorial position in 2019, adding that he will never seek any elective position again.

The Governor said his main preoccupation after his exit in 2018 is to continue to agitate for better treatments for the Nigerian populace from the federal and state governments.

The governor spoke in in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday during a meeting with civil servants on grade levels one to seven in the state civil service.

Fayose, who saluted the workers for their courage and perseverance in the face of the economic recession, culminating in unstable payment of salaries, urged them to discountenance the rumour being allegedly peddled on social media by members of the opposition that he had received the second tranch of Paris Club fund.

He said what the State had got so far was a sum of N8.8 billion , which was shared between the State and local government, “with over 70 percent of it expended on the payment of salaries instead of the 50% agreed with the federal Ministry of Finance”.

On his political ambition, Fayose advised the workers to register during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration.

He said: “I am not saying this because of any political interest, but because of Ekiti interest. I don’t want to contest again, not even for senatorial race in 2019.

“One thing I have learnt was that, Ekiti people don’t normally participate in some government policies where data are collated. And it used to affect us in getting extra grants or favour from the federal government and international agencies.

“The FG is planning to renovate 1,000 health centres in Nigeria and Ekiti got only three. When I enquired, they said the data used to compile the figures didn’t favour Ekiti. If they are to register for polio vaccine, our people won’t make themselves available, because of nonchalant attitude.

“That is why I won’t care to declare more holidays for people to get registered. But I want to call on INEC to look into the faulty Data Captured machines. We have had bad experiences since the commencement of the CVR programme last week and the commission must resolve all these anomalies in the interest of our people.

“I also want to note that all these problems won’t reoccur during the 2018 poll, that is the main reason why INEC as a commission must improve on its efficiency ”, he said.

Fayose told the workers to indicate interest in the Fadama Graduate Unemployed Youth Support Pgrogramme for the training of 300 people in Ekiti that would specialize in commercial farming.

The governor added that the government is ready to give the necessary impetus to workers that showninterest in agriculture.

Politics / Tension In Aso Rock: 24hours After Ibb, Obasanjo, Abdulsalami Discuss Buhari’s H by ugosonics: 8:12am On May 03, 2017
https://flashreporters.com/2017/05/03/tension-aso-rock-24hours-ibb-obasanjo-abdulsalami-discuss-buharis-health-plans/

Barely 24 hours after three former heads of state, President Olusegun Obasanjo, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar, met at Babangida’s hilltop residence, in Minna, facts have emerged on what they discussed.

Sources revealed that the former heads, not at ease with speculations and insinuations, talked about President Muhammad Buhari’s health and the need to douse tension and restore confidence.

It was gathered that following the discussion, one of the former heads of state may visit the presidential villa to meet with President Buhari.

Source close to Babangida told Daily Sun in Minna, Niger State capital, yesterday, that although the meeting was called by Obasanjo, “Minna was chosen as venue because of IBB’s health and the fact that he and Abdulsalami were in Minna and, therefore, it was convenient for Obasanjo to join them.”

It was further gathered that the meeting was also to have in attendance former Minister of Defence, General Theophilius Danjuma who was, eventually absent.

Daily Sun also gathered that the meeting dwelt on the arrest and detention of some former People Democratic Party (PDP) governors by security operatives and also, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Former governor of Niger State, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, his Benue counterpart, Gabriel Suswam and Sule Lamido of Jigawa state are presently in various detention centres across the country, without trial.

The source said the former Nigerian leaders expressed worry that the polity is being heated up with the arrest of many former governors at the same time.

According to the source, “you know Sule Lamido and Babangida Aliyu are very close to Obasanjo and you know that recently, former Senate President, David Mark publicly expressed grave concern over the continued detention of his former governor, Suswam, by the Department of State Services (DSS) on allegations of being in possession of illegal fire arms.

“The three former leaders also discussed other state matters, including the health of the president,” the source said.

Asked why former President Goodluck Jonathan was not at the Minna meeting, when “the state of the nation was discussed,” the source simply replied: “Well, I am not the convener of the meeting.”

Obasanjo was said to have arrived IBB’s residence at exactly 3:45pm, accompanied by Niger Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, who left immediately before the meeting commenced. The meeting ended at about 6pm on Monday.

Crime / My Father, His Mistress’ Son Take Turns To Rape Me – 12-yr-old Girl by ugosonics: 7:43am On May 03, 2017
When she was 9 months, my husband put his manhood in her mouth—Mother …I took my daughter away ‘cos her mother ran mad—Suspect By Evelyn Usman A 12-year-old girl, yesterday, gave a startling revelation of how her father and his step-son allegedly took turns to rape her for seven months in Ilogbo area of Lagos. She said it started with her father and his mistress holding her legs apart for the woman’s son to rape her. At the moment, the victim, who was alleged to have been forced out of school while in Junior Secondary School 1, had been treated for several sexually-transmitted diseases allegedly contracted during the said period. Vanguard was informed that the suspect, identified simply as Adimawu, a commercial bus driver, took his daughter away from their Isheri apartment in May 2016, following a misunderstanding with his wife.

He reportedly took her to his mistress’ home at Ilogbo. During her stay there, the victim was stopped from going to school, as she was assisting her father’s mistress to sell oil bean seed, otherwise known as ugba, at the Alaba International Market.

Her story

Narrating how she was violated, the victim said: “One of my father’s mistress’ son, Kenneth, crept to where I slept on the floor one night and started touching my private parts. I woke up and rushed to inform my father, who was sleeping on the bed with his mistress. “But he drove me back, saying I should allow him do whatever he wanted to do with me. My father came to where I was sleeping and, with the assistance of his mistress, parted my legs and instructed his stepson to have sex with me. “The next day, after everyone had gone out, my father called me inside, locked the door and had sex with me. He warned me not to tell anyone about what happened, threatening to kill me if I did. “Since then, my father and his stepson had taken turns to rape me. At times, when I went to sell ugba at Alaba, his stepson would take me to an uncompleted building, where he would place some cartoons on the ground and rape me.”

More revelations Read more

after police and family members’ intervention, the suspect brought his daughter back home in December 2016. But her mother, who claimed to have been suspecting that all was not well with her daughter, subjected the latter to questioning, in the process of which she opened up. The victim’s mother told Vanguard that she caught her husband with his manhood inside their daughter’s mouth when she was nine months. She said it happened again when the victim was six years. Narrating how this latest development came to the fore, she said: “I discovered something strange about the way she was walking when she returned home. “When I asked her initially, she did not talk until I involved one of her teachers, who was taking her extramural classes, before she opened up. “When I confronted my husband, he beat me to stupor and drove me and my daughter away. We have been staying with a relative since December 2016. ‘Missing’ “I had gone to the market to buy foodstuff one day, only to return and discovered that my daughter was missing. When my husband came back, I asked him about her whereabouts, he denied knowing where she was, saying I should look for her. “Even when the matter of our missing child was reported to the police, he denied knowing where she was until December, when he said he took her to learn a trade at a relative’s. “It took the intervention of the police and some relatives before he brought her back last December.”

His story
Asked why he took the child away from home, the suspect told policemen at the Human Right Desk, Ikotun Police Division, that his wife had a mental problem, adding that he had to take their daughter away from home to ensure her safety. In a swift reaction, his wife described the claim as a lie, saying “I was never mad, neither was I ever sick. The emotional and psychological effect during the period I was searching for my only child made him conclude that I was mad.” She further disclosed that her husband’s action was only a ploy to chase her away from the house they both built so he can bring in his mistress and her children. Arrest Vanguard gathered that the case was reported to police at Idimu by Sir Barth Ozoana, a legal practitioner, consequent upon which the suspect was arrested last Wednesday. However, during interrogation, the suspect described the allegations as lies. Police sources hinted that the suspect earlier admitted to the claim that his stepson raped his daughter. As at yesterday, Vanguard was informed that the case would be transferred to the command headquarters, Ikeja. Lawyer to the victim, Ozoana, said he would assist his client and mother legally, until justice prevailed.

Sports / WLADIMIR Klitschko Has Called For An Instant Anthony Joshua Rematch After Losing by ugosonics: 10:31am On May 01, 2017
The big Ukrainian was floored in the 11th round against the Brit, and has admitted he is “interested” in taking on the now IBF, WBA and IBO champ immediately.

And it is not just trash-talk from the 41-year-old two time world champion, as he says there is another bout mentioned in the contract.

Klitschko told Sky Sports afterwards: “Of course, we have it in the contract, right now I’m interested.

“I need to analyse what the heck happened. I wish I could raise my hand, instead of somebody who didn’t make it back to back.

“But congratulations to Anthony, he got up, he fought back, and he won the titles.” Klitschko was floored three times by AJ during the beguiling fight in front of a record 90,000 crowd – while himself flooring his opponent in round six.

But he could not finish Joshua off with the telling blows, unlike the younger man who had previously never got past round seven in any of his 18 previous successful fights.

The Chief of Army Staff, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, was on Tuesday, 25th April, conferred with the Brazilian Military Order of Merit Award, at Brasilia, Brazil.
The Brazilian Military Order of Merit Award, which is the highest military honour, is awarded to those military officers that have distinguished themselves in various military endeavours. Lieutenant General Buratai is one of the few foreign dignitaries to be so honoured with such an award by the country.

The prestigious award and its presentation to Lieutenant General TY Buratai, was based on the approval of President Michel Temer, on the recommendation of the Brazilian Army Commander, General Eduardo Villas Boas. According to citation at the occassion, the award was in recognition of his exemplary and world’s recognized leadership qualities and the Nigerian Army’s effort in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.

In his vote of thanks at the occasion, the visibly elated Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, expressed appreciation for the honour, which he described not only to him personally, but to the entire officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army and indeed, Nigeria. According to him,

“I HAD NEVER IMAGINED THAT I WAS GOING TO BE GIVEN SUCH RECOGNITION WHEN I WAS PLANNING TO VISIT THE BRAZILIAN ARMY. Politics / I Never Said Buhari Will Now Be Working From Home –minister Lai by ugosonics: 7:04am On Apr 27, 2017
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has denied saying President Muhammadu will henceforth work from home.

The minister was quoted to have told newsmen after Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, where Buhari was again absent, that the President was at home resting and would be working from home.

But denying the alleged statement in a release through his media aide, Segun Adeyemi, Wednesday evening, Mohammed said he was erroneously quoted and explained that he never said “the President is to work from home henceforth.”

He said, “The headlines in a section of the media, ”Buhari to now work from home – Lai Mohammed,” is a misrepresentation of his statement at the briefing.”

Mohammed, quoted verbatim the relevant section of what he claimed was his briefing as, “He (the President) wanted to rest today and he asked the vice President to preside over today’s meeting. In addition, he also asked that all his files be taken home to him and he will be working from home today.”

For three occasions now, the president has not been able to attend FEC’s weekly Wednesday meeting. The FEC meeting, however did not hold last week as it was put off due to the Easter celebration.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has charged the immediate past Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu and the 2015 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Umar Nasko, with an alleged N3bn fraud.

Nasko also served as Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Environment under Aliyu’s administration between 2007 and 2015.

The charges were filed before a Federal High Court in Minna, Niger State.

The EFCC says Aliyu diverted N520million from the state’s Security Account domiciled in Zenith Bank account between January and March 2011.

He also diverted a separate N1.7billion from the same account within the same period.

Aliyu and Nasko also allegedly diverted N1.09billion, which was 16% of Niger State’s shares in the North South Power Company Limited in 2015.

“That you, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, being the governor (also known as chief servant) of Niger State from 2007 to 2015; Umar Mohammed Nasko, being the former Commissioner for Environment/Chief of Staff to Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, sometime between April 7, 2015 and December 7, 2015 in Minna within the jurisdiction of this honourable court while being entrusted with dominion over money belonging to Niger State Government dishonestly converted to your own use the sum of N1,090, 000,000, which formed part of the proceeds of the sale of 16 per cent shares of the sale of Niger State in the North South Power Company Limited and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 312 of the Penal Code,” one of the charges read.

Crime / Woman Arraigned In Court For Attempt To Jump Into Lagos Lagoon by ugosonics: 7:34am On Apr 25, 2017
A Lagos based business woman, Taiwo Titilayo-Momoh, who recently wanted to jump into Lagos lagoon over N18.7million debt was on Monday arraigned before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on charge of attempt to commit murder.

The 51-year-old textile dealer at Balogun Market however pleaded not guilty to the charge before the court presided over by the Chief Magistrate, Mr A.T. Elias.

But the prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin, objected to her not guilty plea and argued that the Titilayo-Momoh committed the offence on March 24 on Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

Omisakin said that but for the intervention of security operatives who prevented the accused from jumping inside the lagoon, she would have committed suicide.

The alleged offence contravened Section 233 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 and may land the accused to a life imprisonment according to the provisions of the section.

The Chief Magistrate who instructed that the accused should be sent to a psychiatric hospital for medical check-ups, granted her bail of N500, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum and adjourned the case for mention on June 1.

Politics / Mega Party: ADP Pays N1m Registration Fee To INEC by ugosonics: 9:22am On Apr 17, 2017
https://flashreporters.com/2017/04/17/mega-party-adp-pays-n1m-registration-fee-inec/

Promoters of a political association, Mega Party, under the auspices of the Action Democratic Party, have paid the mandatory N1m to the Independent National Electoral Commission for the registration of the party.

A top member of the party, Dr. James Okoroma, whose name was forwarded to the commission as the National Secretary of the party, told our correspondent on the telephone on Sunday that the ADP paid the compulsory fee in January this year.

Okoroma stated that the ADP also fulfilled the requirement for the submission of the list of its National Working Committee members to the commission in January.

He said a team sent from the commission visited the ADP’s headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja, and concluded its verification for the process of the registration of the party in February.

Okoroma added that the ADP was only waiting for its certificate of registration from INEC.

According to him, members of the ADP National Working Committee, whose names were on the list submitted to INEC, are Yagbaji Sani (National Chairman), Mr. David Bichi, (National Legal Adviser), a former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Rex Onyeabo (National Chairman, South-East), a former Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Nojeem Awodele (National Vice Chairman, South West), and others.

Okoroma said the planned party had several prominent politicians including senators, former ministers and others across the country.

He said, “Yes, that one (N1m) is mandatory. When you want to register, for you to pick up the form, you make that payment. And they (INEC) have done their verification, they have done everything.

They have come to verify our place, our structures, offices and the rest. We are just awaiting the certificate. We have offices in close to 30 states now; we even have local government and ward offices in some states.

“We paid in January, submitted the list and they came for verification in February. They have done their verification. They came, they sent a team to our national headquarters and did their verification and they promised that they would do their work.”

He said it was important to have a vibrant political party in the country as there was no longer what could be referred to as an opposition party in the country.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, could not confirm the claim that the ADP had fulfilled the conditions for registration.

He said that he could not reach officials with the information to speak on the issue.
Politics / Seized N13bn: Tender Evidence Of Ownership – Sagay Tells Wike by ugosonics: 8:20am On Apr 17, 2017
Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), has asked Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State to tender tangible evidence to prove ownership of the $43.4m, £27,000 and N23m (about N13bn) uncovered in a house in Ikoyi, Lagos, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission last Wednesday.

Wike had on Friday claimed the money belonged to the Rivers State Government and that it was stolen and stashed in the Ikoyi house by his predecessor and current Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

However, the commission had gone before a Federal High Court in Lagos where it claimed that no one had come forward to claim the cash and obtained an interim forfeiture order.

The court then ordered that the money would be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government if no one came forward within 30 days to show proof that he or she owned the cash.

The governor had earlier said the money was proceed from the sale of gas turbine belonging to Rivers State by Amaechi.

Amaechi had dismissed Wike’s claim, describing it as reckless and unfounded, saying he (Amaechi) knew nothing about the seized money.‎

Reacting to the development on Sunday, Sagay said Wike must tender concrete evidence that the cash belonged to the Rivers State Government or else he would not be taken seriously.

He said, “The court has already given an order that the seizure should be advertised and anybody, who has an interest or thinks he is the owner, should come in and file an affidavit and explain the basis upon which he is claiming the money.

“So, if Rivers State is serious about what it is saying, it has a fair opportunity to present its case. This should not be a matter of politics. This is something that has to be legally established; not politics of attack.

“They (state officials) need to file an affidavit to establish ownership and if they can’t, they will lose. So, they have an avenue to establish ownership now and let them go ahead.

“The Rivers matter is pure politics as far as I am concerned. Since the NIA has claimed ownership, all they need to do is to go to court and present documents and satisfactorily convince the courts that it owns the money and it was obtained legitimately.”

Politics / Tension As Imo Assembly Wants 110 Autonomous Communities Nullified by ugosonics: 5:48am On Apr 17, 2017
A motion to withdraw the recognition of 110, out of 664 communities in Imo State, has pitted the community leaders against the 27-member House of Assembly.

The Chairman, House Committee on Autonomous Communities and Chieftaincy Affairs, Innocent Arthur Egwim, sponsored the motion.

Egwim said the suspension was authorised by the seventh assembly in line with the Imo State Autonomous Community Law No. 6 2000 (as amended). He explained that out of the 117 applications recommended for recognition by the immediate past assembly, only seven monarchs were approved and given the staff of office.

He added that it was the inclusion that raised the number from 637 to 644, stressing that it had become a financial burden on the state government to maintain them.

The lawmaker said it was the assembly’s responsibility to approve autonomous communities from the list of applicants that meet the conditions. He asked Governor Rochas Okorocha to suspend all the executive actions and recognition hitherto accorded to the affected communities.

The leaders of the communities have threatened to resist the action if it was adopted and implemented by the governor. But the state Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers and National Coordinator of the South East Traditional Rulers Council, Sam Ohiri, has given support to the planned nullification.

Speaking at the inauguration of the House committee to revalidate and create autonomous communities in the state, he said some of the existing ones were not viable.

However, Mr. Mike Iheanetu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s member representing Aboh Mbaise) and Ikechukwu Amuka of the All Progressives Congress (APC, Ideato North) called for a retraction of the publication earlier made by the seventh

Politics / Democracy Abhors Secrecy, Reveal Who Owns Ikoyi N18bn Cash, SERAP Tells Buhari by ugosonics: 10:04pm On Apr 16, 2017
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reveal the identity of the owner of the N13billion found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission at the Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

The group noted that democracy does not thrive in secrecy, and as such government has to provide the people with answers.

There have been controversies following the discovery of $43.4million, N23million and £27,000, which amounted to about N18billion, found by the EFCC.

Both Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and the National Intelligence Agency last week reportedly claimed ownership of the cash.

But SERAP in a statement released on Sunday by its executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to “urgently address the country on the matter so as to clarify the issue, and resolve lingering doubts among Nigerians regarding the real owner(s) of the cash.”

He further called on the President to ensure there is legal backing for his government’s whistle-blowing policy by vigorously pursuing the passing by the National Assembly of the Whistle-blower Bill.

Part of the statement read, “The government’s increasing reliance on whistle-blowers’ tips to fight corruption has to be backed by some level of transparency and accountability in the real identities of those claiming recovered cash. Clearing the doubts surrounding the real identities of those behind the Ikoyi cash haul would demonstrate that the president values transparency over secrecy, provide further encouragement to blow the whistle on governmental corruption, and enhance the public right to know.

“Democracy abhors secrecy, and for Nigerians to be able to hold elected leaders accountable, they must have access to information such as on the real identities of those behind the Ikoyi cash haul. This transparency is fundamental to the operation of the government’s whistle-blower policy, and inextricably rooted in the notions of good governance and the rule of law under the 1999 Nigerian constitution (as amended).

“No good comes from secrecy in governance, as officials who have become accustomed to operating without accountability are loath to relinquish the power that comes from conducting their business without public scrutiny. When public authorities resist efforts to shine a light on their activities, it gives the impression that there is something to hide. It’s counter-productive to overstate national security based secrecy needs, as secrecy encourages poorly informed and under-vetted decision-making.”

“The policy of giving whistle-blowers some percentage of recovered loot would seem to be a game changer in the fight against corruption but this government now has to squarely address the significant risks that those who blow the whistle face by urgently working with the National Assembly to ensure the necessary legal backing that would ensure protection against reprisals and attacks.

“The government should ensure that the National Assembly expedites the process of passing the Whistle-Blower Bill, as ensuring that the bill is passed without further delay would recognise the necessity of whistle-blowers and the value they add to the anti-corruption fight by reporting otherwise unknown corruption-related information. It would also ensure that whistle-blowers are fully protected from any retaliation and attacks they may experience, and that the government fully appreciates the information they provide”, SERAP stated.
