Phones › Re: Share Your Phone Loss/theft Experiences Here!!! by UjSizzle(f): 8:21pm On Nov 18, 2013
March this year, I was at Lekki Phase one about boarding a bus to go home. 5pm is the usual closing hour for most people, ao we had the usual crowd waiting to hop into the first bus that came around, and yeah there were also those waiting to rob those waiting to hop into a bus.
I was an unfortunate victim.

By the time i got into the bus, i noticed my bag was slightly open. Even without looking in, I already knew what to expect. My phone was gone(the celeb one) and my brt ticket. In that same place were #500 note and my nokia torchlight phone.
It would appear i moved before the thief could complete his mission.

I just sat in the bus completely numb. I wasn't sure whether to cry, scream or laugh sad
Thank God for small mercies, if my nokia torch was taken too i would have actually cried. The stolen phone had my inactive line, while the torch had the active. But I miss that pretty pink phone like madt, and i miss my memory card most of all--Imagine losing my playlist of over 800 songs from every known genre!! angry That one drove me mad mehn.

But like always God dey. I lost that phone and got a sweeter one later cheesy but that doesn't mean i don't want it back though grin

I learnt my lessons, and topping the list was: ALWAYS clutch your handbag to your chest while boarding a bus.
See everyone as a potential robber.
Avoid crowds like a plague.
NEVER underestimate the importance of the regular 'palasa'. Keep your active sim in them. They are the most reliable phones in the market.

Danhumprey: And is that a guarantee that none of the party would cheat on the other? Is that a guarantee that the marriage would last? Learn to think long-term,not short-term! Think of the future of your relationship not about proposing with a ring or not!
A ring does not guarantee the success of a relationship, but then neither does the absence of one too. Give her a ring cause it's important to her period. I don't see what you stand to lose in buying one.

sexkillz: Even though he doesn't believe in a ring, the mere fact that you value a ring and that a ring means so much to you is more than enough reason for him to get you a ring. If you are happy, he is happy.

His getting you a ring invariably translates to his own happiness. Most guys are just romantically dead.

Romance › Re: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by UjSizzle(f): 11:05am On Nov 18, 2013
jay bee: I strongly disagree that only a ring will enable you reach that desired effect. You have admirers because you simply allowed/encouraged it. Most women that aren’t able to feign off admirers simply enjoy the attention they get from them.
There are far better ways to achieve the same result without the need of a ring.
• You can always be firm and formal when associating with these so called admirers.
• Value and respect you relationship more.
I did say 'some'. Women deal with them, we would know better.

jay bee: Why should a girl in a relationship be having all those admirers? If you focus on your relationship then surely you will have no reason to warn off admirers, no?

Commitment is all about mindset
I wish you could be a girl for a week, then you'd understand that admirers will always be there and sometimes seeing that you are about to wed is the only way to get some annoying pest-ly males off your back angry

Romance › Re: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by UjSizzle(f): 10:36am On Nov 18, 2013
jay bee: I'm not saying it isn't tradition. I just frown at people hiding under tradition/culture/norm whenever it suits them.

Getting engaged/married is a decision between two people willing to spend the rest of their lives together. They should decide on what works for them and not what the society deems acceptable.

The notion that a ring is a sign of commitment is all farce. Commitment is all about respect and values that the couple have for each other once they make that decisions to embark on the journey of no return. One of the main reason why this same ring has almost lost its true value/meaning is simply because most women want this same ring to show off or better still use to warn all their numerous admirers off.

Technically, being committed starts once you are in love and you both see each other as someone you had be able to spend the rest of your life with.
Fine, we're on the same page. Tradition in all it's purity has been raped.

@bolded. Very worthy cause if you ask me grin
Romance › Re: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by UjSizzle(f): 10:33am On Nov 18, 2013
that is the spirit. The ring merely represents something. The ring can be replaced with anything as long as they agree with.

Hell sometimes, you don't need an object as the word of the parties is enough(don't take this advice: humans can't be trusted grin)
I think we're on the same side with what the object should be. I don't care if it's a ring oo, i'd even prefer a bracelet sef grin

Ok, like i told Jay bee before: blame humans and not tradition.
It's not our fault some men can't be trusted to keep their word, but there are those who see engagements as sacred.
what does the ring do for you? Answer wisely ooo
Look at it this way-- I write a proposal for a partnership, you're cool with it and interested so you put your signature on the document.

I=Man
Proposal=Marriage proposal
Document=Ring
Signature=Letting you put it on my finger.

cheesy
Wait ooo. A ring signifies commitment and promise bla bla bla but why a ring? What not a diadem, a tiara, a scarf, a bracelet, necklace or waistbead? Why a ring?

We need to ask serious questions here oooo. What is the significance of a ring?
Rings are more conventional, but like I said earlier some people alter tradition somewhat and decide to use other tangible things to seal the deal.
Doesn't matter which way you decide to go IMO, my major concern is that something must be given.

She can find a way to explain why she has a tiara or wears the same purple scarf everday cheesy
Romance › Re: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by UjSizzle(f): 10:18am On Nov 18, 2013
jay bee: Phew, thanks for seeing my question for what it was really.

Here is another question, so if a ring is meant to be a sign of commitment and commitment is meant to be between 2 couples in love so why then must the ring be given to the woman alone?
It's still tradition. The same reason why some cultures have the man paying a bride price and others have a woman paying dowry.
Romance › Re: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by UjSizzle(f): 9:12am On Nov 18, 2013
HisRib: Bride Price is tradition. It's something that has been done for years by our ancestors. Why are you trying to twist things? All this because of a mere engagement ring?!

Is this a sick joke? I can't believe we're even having this conversation. How in the world can you as a man ask for a woman's hand in marriage without a ring & feel good/okay with it? That's just crazy!

I refuse to believe I'm talking to grown men. You lot must be teenagers. I'm in complete disbelief.

A MAN does not run away from responsibility. A boy? Yes. But not a MAN!
Well, the way certain traditions are practised today is just plain ridiculous undecided.
Romance › Re: Marriage Proposal Without A Ring by UjSizzle(f): 9:11am On Nov 18, 2013
jay bee: Why is globalization acceptable when it benefits only one party?

How come this same globalization ish gets frowned upon if the man dare try to use it to get out of the somewhat archaic practices disguised under bride price arrangements?

A practice ought not to be acceptable when it suits just one party
Not one party, it's more a question of which does the greater good.

Culture is probably the most difficult thing to dispense with, and moreso the 'archaic' practise of bride price which I suppose is just a means for greedy old relatives(in some communities) to purge on someone's wealth. Maybe when they are all dead, we can finally do away with it. But that doesn't change the fact that paying of bride price wasn't significant and symbolic in a good way back in the days. It's just been abused like everything else.

I don't see how the giving of ring doesn't suit both parties.
The giver pledges his commitment to his woman by leaving his mark(the ring) on her, the recepient by accepting the ring pledges her commitment in return and wears her trophy in plain sight literally saying "back off, i'm already taken". Looks like a win-win to me.
Every tradition i've know(historically) have been significant to both parties involved. It's just a pity traditional institutions have been bastardized of late and apparently the changes are seemly inconvenient to one or both parties. So really blame the people, don't blame the practise(except ofcos it's barbaric like that Fulani whipping thing undecided).

sexkillz: It's over necessary sef. It show's the extent of your commitment to the said lady. Any proposal without a ring should be taken as a joke. More like ordinary hot air coming out his mouth like any other normal day.
