I think you and the judges should decide on what topic will be debated on from the list and not base the decision on public votes.

Danhumprey: Did you just say it's "normal"huh Oh God! Tell me I'm not hearing this! sad
Yes 'normal'. I didn't say it was right. But it is not totally unimaginable that someone esp one who is in her first relationship and has been disvirgined by the same man to actually wanna experience something different with someone else. She hurt him, true but her actions aren't completely out of this world.
If he can let it all go and start afresh with her that'll be good.

Kslib: I dont think i missed anything.. I am also looking at this ish from the security man's point of view.

"Na person wey first call police dey win case" and guess what? That same addage is playing out here. How i wish the security man can also come and lay his complaint here. smiley smiley

Latest info suggests that thesame bank was robbed of recent. Shey u dey see am? The security man is doing his Job..

Well, lets just end the argument here cos nobody will agree.
..
All izz well!
A sensible bank places a notice outside the bank where customers can read about any latest change in bank policy either for security reason or otherwise, and they apologise for any unforseeable inconveniences. That's how things are done.
Anyway, lets move on to other things
All izz well smiley

I suggest people read through this topic again properly, cos judging from some comments here it would seem that the inherent inability/laziness/uncultivated habit of reading and taking time understand before jumping to respond is affecting some people(not u Kslib).
I've seen people say that bikes are not allowed, so i wonder if you even read at all or just jumped straight to the first few comments you saw and decided to base your reply on theirs undecided.
Don't just skim through or you could miss vital informations.
Thank you

mavinc4u: OMG, you are great. This is my first time of reading a brilliant reply on a post in nairaland. God bless you for this piece. All those insulting and accusing the OP should please read this lady's reply; is so explanatory. She really understood the message the OP passed along and narrated it very well for those that find it difficult to assimilate. Kudos. Keep it up

Kslib: You have to understand that the modus operandi of Staffs(those who work inside the bank) is different from that of lets say "a security man". I am not in anyway saying that security men are ordered to be harsh but the instructions given to them by the bank is simple "Call anyone to order to who violates the rules".. The man is just protecting his job. Who wants to gets sacked cos of a customers mistake.

In the security man's words------ "Get out!! Leave here!".. To be honest, i see nothing insulting or demeaning in those words. Yes, it sounds harsh but hey! Nigerians are equally damn stubborn and like it is said "Iron sharpenth Iron".. Its not like he called the @op a foool, iddiot or something of that nature.. I only see a security man who was surprised that despite the continuous endless emphasis which has been made on parking, people still find it hard to obey.

Funny how you are focusing on the words of the security but refused to address the op's decision to ignore someone who was calling him to order. He could have used just a minute to explain but he ignored the man. I call that rude.

Yes, every company wants to protect her image but are you trying to tell me that what the security man did should warrant any sanction on him or the bank? Sometimes, i feel like we Nigerians like to feel over important and blow things out of proportion when clearly we (the ones laying the complaint) are also guilty to some extent just like the OP.

Just like you said "Managing a job that involves regular contact with people require certain skills". This statement is true and that is why i said "The modus operandi of a security man is diff from someone who works in the customer care unit". People who work in security units are required to develop thick skin by default and exude an aura of toughness and authority.

Being rude and being tough are two different things. The job of a security man requires some certain level of toughness considering who they(the security) are dealing with here----- The ever stubborn Nigerians.
..
All izz well!
Please go back to the initial post of the OP, read it again carefully. Then go back to my first response to your comment and read it again.
I have a feeling you missed certain things from his narrative smiley

chucky234: You cant conclude that the guard shouted at the OP for no reason,no sane man would walk up to a well dressed man and begin to yell at him for no reason.
You have to listen or read the guard's version of the story to know what transpired,OP was at fault for ignoring the guard simple.
It isn't yelling as much as it's addressing him rudely. I have had such encounter with some staff in certain establishments and most times it takes the interferance of a more cool headed professional colleague to calm me down.

So yes it is possible to have someone yell at you for no justifiable reason. A staff shouldn't even yell at a customer in the first place to begon with.

234GT: I just wish the OP knows the so many things on the mind of an average branch manager. You would have appreciated the fact that he intervened in your case. You would also have given him some time to resolve the issue.
I agree the OP was impatient with the manager, but the way the manager even 'yelled' at him AGAIN was still wrong. Even worse cos he's the manager undecided. Add that to the the obvious lack of respect for authority between the Security guard and the manager.
Business › Re: GTBank Customer Humiliation by UjSizzle(f): 1:48pm On Oct 15, 2013
onyxo76: a security incident happened around the bank area over the weekend thats why the guards are a bit tensed up. you should have just parked some place else. i bank with the same branch and i ve never had any issues so far.
I understand where you're going with this, but it was still unprofessional. Another skill necessary for managing people is handling of crisis without upsetting others.
The man had nothing to do with their security crisis, so why should their frustration be metted out on him? It's still not an excuse, there are betterways of handling this issue.
Business › Re: GTBank Customer Humiliation by UjSizzle(f): 1:30pm On Oct 15, 2013
chucky234: Nobody like being ignored, the OP should have taken at least two minutes of his time to explain to the said guard that its a private bike and not a public one.
If anything got missing or stolen within the bank premises the guard is the first person to be locked up in police cell and not the OP.
The OP is at fault period, would the op ignore the instruction if given by a soldier?
When someone yells 'Get Out' to you, you still stand there to 'explain' to them?
Even a soldier has no right to physically harm you. Just sue their silly arse to court and the FG will pay you heavily.

The OP broke no known rule by parking. The simple fact that he brought in that bike all alone and without a driver is enough for him to park within the premises and go about his business in peace undecided

We shouldn't excuse mediocrity in this country. If the man hates his job, he's free to quit.
Business › Re: GTBank Customer Humiliation by UjSizzle(f): 1:18pm On Oct 15, 2013
Kslib: 1... The security man wouldnt have ordered him out when he(the security) knew that the young man didnt violate any rule. It just doesnt make sense..

2.. Yes,another security man initially gave him the permission to park there but the fact that another security man confidently ordered him not to park there shows that the first security who told him it was ok to park there either didnt get a full grasp of the laid down rules or felt the instructions given by the bank wasnt that serious.
Trust me, in Nigeria, you can beg a security man to allow you park where it is clearly written "No parking" while others wont allow you no matter what.

3.. The security man wasn't rude. This is Nigeria, a country where citizens have no regards for simple instructions. I am very sure that the security man must have encountered very stubborn rude Nigerians(which isnt anything new) over the years and that made him develop thick skin also. Yes,its advisable to manage customers properly but the thing is "Many Nigerian customers will take you for a wild tiring ride if don't act tough"..

Besdies, why would the security man be telling him to leave and get out?------ cos he saw the young man violating the rules.. Now, that same young man ignored him and hurried into the bank. Come-on,lets be realistic here, if you were the security man, you would have also concluded that the young man was rude and looking for trouble eevn when he parked his bike at the wrong place..

If you claim the @op did nothing wrong, then the security man also did nothing wrong because he ordered someone who was doing the wrong thing, and got ignored in the process.

If you believe that the @op didn't break any rule because a security once told him in the past that parking there had no consequences, then why cant you also believe that the second security who confidently ordered him out was also right because the first security man erred and didn't understand the instructions given by the bank.

You should also look at it from the security man's angle and be in his shoes. Do you know that if the security man comes online and narrate his tale here, you will completely side him and blame the op.
..
All izz well!
I still disagree with you. I have had the privilege of perusing through staff files of companies and they are punished for even daring to argue with the customers talk more of 'barking' at them. Every company wants to protect their image, and what this security man did wasn't portraying GTB in a good light.
He was rude, there is no excuse for that.
Managing a job that involves regular contact with people requires certain skills n the manager n security guard clearly lacks this.

They still need to be taught a lesson.

Kslib: The title of this thread reads "GTB Customer Humiliation".. I think it needs modification.

The right title should be "Stubborn Nigerian Disgraced For Disregarding Instructions".. You knew what you were doing was against the laid down rules of the banking premises but still went ahead to violate it. Now you are here crying like a widow and looking for sympathy.

Better start to dey gather money to bail your okada which might amount to half of the buying price..
..
All izz well!
1. There are simple bank policies and this one clearly stated that 'commercial' bikes could not be parked in the bank premises. The OP went with a 'Private' bike. No rule was broken.

2. Another security man had already given him the permission to park his bike there. Even if the rules have suddenly been changed, why was there another bike parked there? Preferential treatment? undecided

3. The security guard was rude. If you must carry out your duty esp when it relates with people, you need to manage them properly. The Manager on the other hand is very incompetent. Imagine having no control over your staff undecided
In fact the Human Resource personnel needs to be questioned too.
GTBank staff are unruly. No one should treat a customer that way. They need to be taught a lesson.

I hate when people are rude to customers angry Weren't they given sensitivity training ?
And the manager should know better.
OP you need to report this to the head office, if they are any better.
