kmcutez: Please people stop damaging your body, going on
diets do not work. The rate of failure for forcing your
body to lose weight is about 95 percent. The biggest
predictor of future weight gain is how many diets
you've been on. The more diets you've been on, the
more weight you will gain in future, and the more
you wreck your metabolism.

Gaining weight is not based on how much you eat,
but how out of wack your hormones are, cortisol
being one of the hormones that will make you put
on weight.

To lose weight, please let your body guide you.

Depending on how messed up your metabolism is,
you might get worse initially before healing.

When you stop dieting, at first you might crave
easily digestable food like bread, chocolate, coke
etc. It is very okay to eat those food as your body is
in a compromised state and will not be able to
handle whole foods.

You will gain weight at first but
after a while your body will stabilize. Depending on
how messed up your body is, it might take a few
months to a few years before your body will start
releasing fat on its own while eating a lot of calories
everyday.

You might eat anywhere from 4000 calories to
10000 calories depending on how active you are. It
is all good, you will lose the weight.

Also please stop the exercise, especially chronic cardio until you are fully
healed. Your body will let you know when to start
exercising again. When healed, I will recommend lifting heavy weights, maybe 2-3x a week and a little bit of cardio.

Also please stop forcing yourself to drink a lot of water as it will tank your metabolism. While healing do not eat fruits like watermelon,
oranges etc, too much water in them. Look for fruits with very little water eg dates etc.

Again, let your body lead you.

Also please no fasting, as your body is already compromised and might lead to lots of health issues like adrenal fatique, thyroid problems etc.

Each time you go on a diet to lose weight, you increase your weight setpoint, so first diet you might get down to 60kg, next diet you might not be
able to get below 65kg, next diet you might not be able to get below 70kg and so on.

Excessive exercise, especially chronic cardio, will also increase your weight setpoint.

Please don't derail our topic , thanks. Eating less is not a diet it is about moderation. Eating less and exercising more is the recommended way to lose weight. As for not drinking water.... try it first and let us know how it goes.

I nearly threw my scale sout of the window, when Id discovered that I'd put on 3 kg in the Xmas week.

Just got back from a half hour power walk with Mr CC. Too many people walking lions dogs at this time of the morning though angry

Looool @ lions! Walking is great exercise think i might throw in an evening walk as well as morning aerobics. What is your target to lose?
Health / Re: 2013 Fit And Trim Weight Loss Challenge by uju2: 8:32pm On Jan 01, 2013
if anyone has an iphone or android you can download the free 'my fitness pal' app which lets you track food eaten/calories and also exercise. You can also add me as a friend on there and share stats.

Look forward to hearing how everyones day went.

For me it was quite easy, I ate 1296 cals including 3 of my 5 a day fruits (i tried!)

I also exercised 500 cals and drank 2litres of water.

I have been using scales to weigh my portions and its amazing how small they are compared to what I used to thin was a 'normal' portion e.g. cereal i used to fill up the bowl but 40g is actually about half a bowl.

Fasting does work but from my experience on the non-fasting days theres a tendency to overindulge so I prefer permanent lifestyle changes but thats just my point of view

Also, I think someone sent me a PM? does anyone know how I read them? embarassed #confused

am simply addicted to drink, weda its coke, chocolate drinks, inshort whateva as far as its liquid and its very sweet.
i really need help in this. i need to slim down. i have to. i just dont knw hw to stop drinking.

as for exercise, ave searched for gyms in my area, cant seem to find any. and i knw i cant do it alone, need to be part of a group so we can do it togeda. need that team spirt.

Water is your friend. Try to replace half your drinks with water. Tell yourself it tastes great. Thats what I did and now I only drink water, at least 2 litres a day.

Pink22: Am in, av already started something and have dropped some weight, i weight 90kg am now down to 87kg, i will like to get more serious come January .
Av cut out refined foods including rice, i take 100% wheat products, no dairies, lots of fruits and vets, then exercise

These are some great changes. I wanna cut out bread completely and only eat rye bread... the problem is I dont think it tastes amazing... I'm telling my brain it tastes great and whether it lies it or not this is what I'm eating! lol

Hi guys....

So yesterday I did a 30 mins aerobics workout from a DVD. Burns around 400-500 cals. I also did the worout this morning. Didn't start the diet till today. I had a bowl of allbran fibre cereal with pouring yoghurt (vanilla flavour alpro) instead of milk. Having a yoghurt now. How is everyone's lifestyle change going so far?

Remember even changing one thing a wee will be 52 better lifestyle choices this year :-)

Hey beautiful/handsome nairalanders.

I thought it would be cool if a few of us could get together and share our 2013 weight loss goals and progress through the year.

For me I have always been curvy and came to England last year to start my masters. I came here a sexy size 14 and the devil that is sugar and carbs has taken me up to a size 18. My goal is to lose 100lbs (45g) with diet and exercise over the year 2013. Slow and steady and make it a total lifestyle change. I want to go down to a size 10 and I currently weigh a terrible 105kg. I was 80kg when I left nigeria and I want to go down to 60kg which was my university weight. I also got engaged on Christmas day and would like to be slim before my wedding in 2014 and before I start popping out the babies grin

I am starting on the 31st Dec (monday) so I can get a full week in and the plan is to work out 5 mornings a week to start with and then evolve to the gym after I settle into morning jogging. With regards to food, I will be having 3 meals a day with 2-3 snacks of fruit, nuts and yoghurt and no food after 8pm. I will reduce carbs, cut out refined sugars and replace white carbs with brown, and also minimise red meat.

Who would like to join me? Diets and routines may vary but together we will beat the bulge and be our best ever selves in 2013.

@iwemfo no need to feel bad i'm sure you have toasters who will appreciate the extra attention now that you are single, but know where to cut it off, no second date, dont talk to much on the phone but enjoy texting and keep all the messages to make you smile when you're bored.
Romance / Re: Moving On from a broken relationship - opinions needed by uju2: 11:47pm On Oct 26, 2011
Earlier this year I was in a similar situation. Keep busy, find a distraction maybe a guy who likes you a lot to keep your mind off it, but nothing serious no rebound relationship.

Pray to God to heal your hurt and help you forgive the guy.

Finally spend time with your girls and pampering yourself, being hot is the best revenge lol. Every time he sees you he needs to be filled with regret. After a few months you will be over him and he will probably come back but dont take him back.

Offer to be his friend. By then it will be easy because you have moved on.

Thats what I would do.

Romance / Christmas With His Family, Without Him: by uju2: 1:41pm On Oct 02, 2011
I recently started seeing a guy who I have known all my life. Our dad's are close friends and things are going well. Everyone is in support of our relationship and so far I am really happy.

The problem is I am relocating to London for some time to do my masters very soon. Its not a big deal as he can come over any time he wants and he goes there frequently for work and on holiday.

This Christmas I will be unable to go back to Naija due to exams and uni pressures. I initially planned to visit my mum's sister who lives in the north of England.

So then my guy decides that I should spend christmas with his family who stay about an hour from the uni. I have never met his aunty or uncle but I met their daughter when she visited Nigeria a while back.

I know it means a lot to him for me to get to know them as he is very close to them and it is his Mum's twin sister's family. But I feel a bit awkward spending a few days with people I have never met and there are no trains or buses on Christmas day so I may have to stay over as they stay outside London.

It would be ok if I could convince him to come but he's got a lot on with work and can't take any time off till January.

Any positive advice and opinions appreciated smiley If you were me would you go? Should I go?
Family / Re: When Did Your Dad Stopped Giving You Money? by uju2: 10:09pm On Sep 14, 2011
My Dad 'stopped giving me money' after NYSC because thats when he stopped giving my brothers. But I'm a daddy's girl and he doesnt want me to follow men for the things I want so sometimes I get a little bonus, I always find money 'appears' in my account just when I mention I need a bag or a holiday or I'm having car problems grin
Family / Re: Is It Wrong For A Married Man To Give A Lift To A Helpless Girl? by uju2: 8:13am On Sep 13, 2011
I wouldn't take a lift from a stranger who is a man even if i was 'helpless' i would look for a woman with children or run for my life. Women no dey fear murder/rape/kidnapping nowadays lol. And hopefully I will marry a wise man who will think from all angles before giving anyone a lift e.g car jacking as shes getting in etc. As long as he is safe I will trust his judgement.
Romance / Re: He Said I Love You by uju2: 9:07am On Sep 10, 2011
Guy : 'i love you'. Lady : 'thank you'. I have had this conversation before it never goes down well, Lol. If he cant wait till you love him back then he aint for you. No point flogging a dead horse if hes acting like a big baby then just 'do you'.
