I graduated from that university, it is not for old people.
They don't serve as nysc corp members but they are given nysc exclusion letter, which serves same purpose as nysc discharge certificate. I have my own nysc exclusion letter.

National open university should be your best choice in this scenario.
Do your business and still go to school.
I’ve always consider this route, but someone told me that the school is for old people and it doesn’t make sense for young blood like me, and also about not going to nysc bla bla bla.

There is no certainty of any business in Nigeria today because of the fluctuation in policies which is unfavorable to business owners.

With the current removal of subsidy, many large firms are folding up.

For this current 9ja, it's possible you go into business with 10Mils and return with debts. I'm telling you. My cost of operations from June 2023-December 2023 was more than my cost of operations for the whole of 2021, 2022 and the first half of 2023 altogether.

You can't run into debt with your handwork unless if you didn't know what you are doing.
Handworking is very sweet believe me.
There is almost no business that I haven't tried in this life so, I can give you a first hand advice.

Learn a vocation and turn it into business. If you learnt how to install electricals, you can end up selling electrical materials.

But learn something that will help you thru school. There is no place on earth today people don't barb their hair. This is a kind of skill wherein you can still succeed without connections.

***I updated my first response, please check it out
By the way, which business do you have in mind?
Phone technician, phone accessories business, POS

You see my guy. To succeed in life is easy, many just don't know how to go about it.

Lemme tell you something. That your 100bar na just breeze.
You are 21 and you are still very young.
Instead of goin back to school this year. Leave this year and go learn a vocational skill. Be an apprentice of a handworker.

You can be trained in barbing, tailoring, hair dressing or any skill that doesn't take long. Once you are a certified handworker, Reprocess
thanks bro, but the 100k is just an additional oo, if I choose the business route, my mom is ready to give the 400k savings

Given your age, and educational level I recommend starting a business. You are still young, as such you have the age advantage to explore and take calculated risks, that can reward you in the future.

But these questions you should be asking yourself are:

2) The so called business you intend starting, have you done a nice and concrete feasibility studies?

2) If things shouldn't work as planned do you have a plan B?

3) If things go sour later along the line due to the Nigerian factor, can you pick yourself up and move on?

Provide honest answers to these questions and weigh your options.

To go through school now is hard oh..
Tuition fees has been increased as well as cost of upkeep.
Since you already have in mind to start your business, and you mum wishes you go back to school, Baba go back to the school now she has the money to sponsor.

While she sponsors you, save your money and cut down expenses so that you can have savings from the allowances you will get.

Start your business once you are in 200l-300l (the school I attended, if you don't have a good CGPA in 100l you will struggle to meet up) this way you kill 1 bird with 15 stones angry.

Have in mind you will need to find a way to shuffle between school and business.

National Diploma is of two types. There is Ordinary National Diploma (OND) which is obtained after the first two years (aka ND1) in a polytechnic. There is Higher National Diploma (HND) which is obtained after another two years (4 years, aka ND2) in a polytechnic.

Which one do you have?

So that you can monitor your business after school
thanks, the thing is that I need to choose one out of the 2 options(go to school first, start business later Or Vice versa)

Hello NLers, I need an advice concerning my path.

I'm 21-year-old with an ordinary national diploma degree. my Mom is eager for me to pursue a university education, But I think it might be beneficial to start a business first, because my Mom recently has some financial issues due to one or two things which could impact my education once I gain admission, considering I'm not the only child

She already has some savings like 300k-400k to back me up, but I know she will really struggle to see me through cuz there’s no husband to support her and I don’t want anything that’ll make her to collect loan.

These are my skills and business idea:
1. Certified mobile phone technician.
2. POS business idea obtained from my boss.
3. Phone accessories business, involving local wholesale purchases and shipping from AliExpress and Alibaba.

Note: I also have like 100k savings acquired from my 7 to 7 job

Switching from Art class to Science class will require you to rewrite WAEC or NECO to get your o’ level results to process a Science course.

I’ll advice you continue the Mass Communication in the University and still continue learning the tech course you have chosen since it’s fully online.
Most of the Tech course are fully taught online than in most Nigeria University where there is no practical knowledge.
thanks brother, I’ll consider that, but do you think is possible to switch from mass communication to information technology with science science o level?

Dear Sir/Ma,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am seeking advice regarding my career and education. I’m in my early 20’s and graduated with a National Diploma(OND) inMass Communication in 2022. Recently, I've taken up self-learning in software development and find myself quite passionate about it.

My mom has informed me that I won't be returning to the polytechnic due to certain reasons; instead, I'll be attending university this year. I am torn because I want to pursue a full-time career in software development. Mass Communication doesn't align with my introverted personality, and it feels challenging as a first-born.

The problem is, I'm contemplating whether it’s possible to switch from Mass Communication to Information Technology at university, or if I should start anew with Computer Science/Software Engineering from 100 level. Or should I continue with Mass Communication at university while simultaneously pursuing software development on the side?

I would greatly appreciate your guidance.

Note: Over the past three months, I've been studying Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics fundamentals on Khan Academy, guided by a friend from LAUTECH. With your advice, I feel prepared to take the NABTEB exam this May. Thank you for your guidance.

Everything you said up there made sense and morally acceptable but the part you said "let them go and work" did sound arrogant, callous, and insensitive to the plight of those in that needy category. Most of them are actually working very hard and smart even harder and smarter than you but for some reasons beyond them they do not have the privilege that you are enjoying. Even you yourself can be needy someday, maybe not in the material sense of it.

See, in life all fingers are not equal so my advice to you sir is, don't hesitate to help the needy who have genuine material needs. Don't presume that the needy are lazy beggars and lastly, be modest about how you enjoy your privilege.

Nothing is wrong with your comment except where you mentioned "slave". When one does a job and gets paid, appreciate them; it puts food on the table and does a lot--that which you tag as "slave". Ask yourself this simple question: The way we downgrade people who do menial jobs, is it the same way the westerners do? I remember here in Naija, cleaners are sent to buy food and other stuffs simply because they are cleaners. I would have also down-voted you, so that you would learn to mind your business as this world na "OYO- on your own", abi na you dey feed them?

You used the word ''Turn slave in another country'' that's a big insult to any UK indegenes it brings back the slave trade vibe. To a Nigerian it's also a big insult as you generalise and reduce there rep.

The original post is DUMB. Your reply to the post is equally DUMB!

UK is bad! UK is bad!!

Yet the idi.ot in the original post has lived there for 15 years.

Why didn't he come home?

He complains about low wages and household debts. That's to show you how dumb he is.

Household debts mean there is a system of credit in place to help households meet their needs when they cannot afford it.

That's a fucking privilege!

If you cannot afford something in Nigeria, you are on your own. Owing people or company in Nigeria gets you treated like a criminal.

ALSO, you idiots need to get your shallow mind re-trained.

Not everyone travels for MONEY or greener pasture or whatever. People just want to live in a society that works. In a fucking sane country.

For instance, the quality of air in some countries are a 100X better than what you get in Nigeria.

ALSO, imagine a nice and dilligent worker in Nigeria got promoted. He throws a party to celebrate his new promotion.

He bought drinks and a little slab of beef.

Little did he know that the expensive drinks he bought were made with gutter water by criminals in Aba.

But that's not all. Not even by a long shot.

Turns out the beef he bought came from a cow that died of mysterious illness.

He discovered all of this AFTER the fact. But this is Nigeria and he has to suck it up. He will get no recompense.

Oh, and remember the promotion he is celebrating?

Funny thing just happened. Turns out the BOSS of his boss has a nephew who just graduated from Benue State Polytechnic.

So, no more promotion. Nepotism first, then maybe merit later.

This is Nigeria. This is what people want to escape.

In fact, anybody who complains about people wanting to JAPA in 2024 will find themselves in a close embrace with a Dangote truck.

thanks for your input sir, but you don’t really need the bold, thanks once again I learnt a lot from this.
