RICH GHANAIAN EXPORTER OF CARS IN FINLAND DIES MYSTERIOUSLY, FRIENDS SUSPECTS HIS PARTNER

The death of Mr Sly Tee Samrich Kwasi, a wealthy Ghanaian exporter of cars in Finland came as a huge shock to the Ghanaian community in Finland and Austria. He died last saturday in Malmi, a neighbourhood in Helsinki under a controversial manner.

The chubby business man who was in Austria for many years before moving to Finland is a well known gentle man who has successfully carved out a niche for himself in the European car business.

However, there has been many speculations and accusations that his business partner, Mr Quaku Ofori Benji who is also from Ghana of having a hand in his death. A recent facebook post from the deceased on the 17th of November, 2018 says that him and his partner has some cars ready to be shipped to Ghana.

Mr Quaku Ofori Benji , the business partner of the deseased has come out to deny ever having a hand in the death of his business partner.

There has been many speculations and some accusations concerning the death of Sammy, the Ghanaian who sadly passed away last Saturday. People with no idea of what happened are accusing me and spreading falsehood about me, without even asking me about the incident.

I therefore find it necessary to come out now and tell the story as it is. This is not to accuse anyone of anything, but just to say it as it was. We (Sammy, the guy who died, and I) were driving home from the party on Saturday when police stopped the car. They ask ask Sammy to blow the alcohol meter two times and he did that. The police asked him how much alcohol he has taken and he said just a bottle of beer. We were still sitting in the car when Sammy decided to get down and approach the police. I asked him to sit down but he went anyway. I assumed that he wanted to plead with the police. After sitting in the car for about 3 mins, I came down from the car to check why Sammy hasn’t come back.


When I got down, I saw Sammy on the floor and the police trying to handcuff him. He was shouting for help and he called my name and said they are killing me, I can’t breath, I have asthma. From where I was standing, I was shouting at the police to leave him. The police asked me to leave the scene because I was obstructing them. The police didn’t leave him and continues to cuff him until he was not moving anyway. I don’t know for sure why the police did not stop cuffing him. They may have their own reason. The police then tried to revive him but they failed, so are the paramedics who were called in later. So they rushed him to hospital.

I did not see what happened before he was put to the ground. All I know is that he was not aggressive when the police checked his alcohol level, and he was not aggressive when I saw him on the floor. From what I saw on the floor, I can only say that he was struggling and fighting for his life. Reports from the newspapers saying that he was handcuffed and the police tried to tie his legs as well because he was aggressive, are all false. The police put the cuff on only one of his hand and not even both.

Now, those who personally know me know that I don’t go to parties with my own car. I always use public transport, which is free for me because of my job as a bus driver. I don’t take my car because I know that I may be tempted to drink. For me, I don’t drink and drive.

However, on this day, Sammy wanted to drive the car and he kinda was enjoying driving it. That is the main reason why we went with a personal car in the first place. Speculations that I was the one driving the car and quickly gave it to Sammy when the police stopped the car, are all lies aimed goo tarnish my name. Other speculations that Sammy sped off when the police stopped the car are also false and lies.

I want to strongly say that any other story related to this incident that deviates from what is said here is not accurate. The only part of the incident I can’t comment on is what actually happened between Sammy and the police before they pinned him down. And what happened when the ambulance took him to the hospital.

This incident is really sad and I only wish that people and the Finnish media will look and ask for the facts of the incident rather than fabricating stories just to suit their own interest.

We all attacked Zambia when news broke out a few weeks ago that they approved a Chinese Unit in the country’s military. The government could not handle the attacks and criticisms from citizens and concerned Africans around the continent and in diaspora, that they had to disband the unit.

Just when we were thinking that China’s influence in Africa centers around trade alone, a video surfaces of Chinese nationals singing in a bus with Zimbabwe military personnels.

Could it be that Zimbabwe has taken the podium and announced to the world that indeed Africa is meat waiting to be eaten – a continent that is ready to surrender her military, resources and future?

Has Zimbabwe approved the recruitment of Chinese nationals in its military?

The Video doesn’t give much details, so we can only ask the right questions while hoping that our fears are not the case.


You will recall that Pan-African activists, notable among whom are Professor PLO Lumumba – the renowned Kenyan Legal Luminary, and Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah – daughter of African independence hero, Kwame Nkrumah, have continued to warn that China’s major interest in Africa is her military.
According to them, through control of the military and resources in Africa, China will have a huge advantage in achieving her goals of becoming a world power against Europe and America – an ambition which the Asian giants are not shy to admit.

Denmark is withholding 65m krone (£7.5m; $9.8m) in aid to Tanzania after "unacceptable homophobic comments" from a senior politician, a minister says.

Development minister Ulla Tornaes did not name the official but said she was "very concerned" by the comments.

According to BBC, last month, Paul Makonda, commissioner for the commercial capital Dar es Salaam, called on the public to report suspected gay men to the police.

He said he would set up a surveillance squad to track down gay people.

The government said at the time that Mr Makonda was expressing his personal opinion, not government policy.

Homosexual acts are illegal in Tanzania and punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Correspondents say statements against gay people have increased since President John Magufuli's election in 2015.

In 2017, the country's deputy health minister defended a threat to publish a list of gay people.

"I am very concerned about the negative development in Tanzania. Most recently the totally unacceptable homophobic statements from a commissioner," Ms Tornaes said on Twitter.

"I have therefore decided to withhold DKK 65m in the country. Respect for human rights is crucial for Denmark."

Denmark is Tanzania's second biggest aid donor.

Ms Tornaes has also postponed a planned trip to the east African country, Danish broadcaster DR reported.

The Tanzanian government has not yet commented.

Mr Makonda - a staunch ally of the president - said last month that he expected international criticism for his stance, but added: "I prefer to anger those countries than to anger God."

The government distanced itself from his views, saying that he "was only airing his personal opinion".

It said the government would "continue to respect and uphold all human rights as provided for in the country's constitution".

Earlier this month, ten men were arrested for allegedly conducting a same-sex marriageceremony on the Tanzanian island of Zanzibar.

The move was condemned by human rights groups.

A  Nigerian pastor and singer, pastor Alfred Umejuru Akunchukwu will forever be grateful to God for saving his son from being crushed to death.

The young boy got stucked under his car while trying to get his ball that went underneath. He would have moved the car which might kill the boy if not for God's intervention.

Nollywood actor and producer Emma Blaq tied the nuptial knot today with his beautiful sweetheart, Blessing Egede. The colourful wedding took place at the Lagos Headquarters church of Omega Fire Ministries Lagos. The love birds were joined together by Apostle Johnson Suleman, the President and founder of the church.

Emma Blaq, a protegee of Apostle Johnson Suleman produced a movie "Black Elijah' which was premiered early this year at the the Lighthouse Cinemas, Effurun, Delta State and Kada Cinema in Benin city. The movie is centered around Apostle Suleman's life, experiences and calling. Apostle Johnson Suleman is being portrayed as the Black Elijah of the 21st century in the movie which featured notable actors actors like Jide Kosoko and Esther Audu.


In 2016, Apostle Suleman gifted Emma Blaq a brand new car and cash and he has been there for him. The wedding attracted some Nollywood stars like, Desmond Eliot and Leo Mezie

Salvini Jubilates! Italian Senate approves new law to make deportation of migrants easier

On Wednesday the Senate has approved the legislation making it easier to depot convicted asylum seekers.

The security and migration decree won with 163 votes in favour with only 59 against and 19 abstentions.

The decree, drafted by Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, the leader of the League party, was approved with a confidence vote and now moves to the Lower House.


This makes it easier for the authorities to deport asylum seekers guilty of felonies. There was some tension within the ruling coalition due to some members of the 5-Star Movement (M5S) being opposed to certain elements of it.

According to Voice of Europe, Salvini celebrated via Twitter: “Security and Immigration decree, time 12:19, the Senate approves!!!”

Over 10,000 migrants and refugees landed on Spanish coasts in October, the highest number for the country in the past five years of the migration crisis. The data shows a migration emergency that is not seen on other Mediterranean routes.
Over 10,000 migrants and refugees landed on Spanish coasts in October, a record high for the country in the past five years of the migration crisis, according to data from the International Organization for Migration. The IOM spokesman in Geneva, Joel Millman, was quoted by Spanish media as saying that Spain is the main destination for irregular immigration across the Mediterranean Sea this year. It saw over 10,000 migrants arrive in October, a number never before seen in a single month for this route, he said.


Constant rise since early 2018 

From the very beginning of this year, Spain has seen a constant increase in migrant flows, with an initial significant peak in May, when the number was at 3,523 compared with the 1,258 seen the previous month. Since then, arrivals via sea have steadily increased with 8,054 landing on the country's coasts in September and the record 10,042 from October 1 to October 28.

Other routes not experiencing an emergency 

According to Infomigrants.org, Spain's migration emergency is not seen on the other migratory routes in the central and eastern Mediterranean. Millman noted that the worst moment had been in the second half of 2015, when 10,000 migrants and refugees were arriving on European coasts in a month and sometimes even on a single day. He added that the month of October 2015 had seen 211,000 migrants and refugees arrive via sea, mostly in Greece and Italy.

3 ITALIANS ARRESTED, 77 OTHERS UNDER PROBE FOR FAKING LEGAL DOCUMENTS FOR MIGRANTS

Police in Italy have arrested three people suspected of drawing up fake employment contracts for migrants to facilitate their residency in Italy, and allow them to draw benefits from the government. Almost 80 people are under investigation.
Authorities in Italy have arrested three Italian citizens for drawing up false contracts for foreigners living in the country. The falsified documents reportedly included fake work contracts that would allow migrants to obtain residency permit as well as enable immigrants to receive assistance from the Italian National Social Security department (INPS), such as maternity benefits and unemployment pay.
A total of 78 people are under investigation now, some of whom are alleged to have used the fake job contracts to get residency permits and INPS assistance after having paid high sums to obtain the false documents.

Fake employment contracts 

The arrests are the result of an investigation that began in 2017. At the time, authorities became suspicious about the fact that some foreigners - mostly Albanian nationals - who had been arrested for burglary had all received  their residency permits by being employed in different companies owned by a 77-year-old Padua-based businessman.

According to Infomigrants, the investigation revealed that the immigrants had never actually been employed by any of his companies. Instead they had only been shown to be working for his businesses on paper, in order to obtain residency in Italy. The inquiry found two other individuals to also have been involved in the execution of the fraudulent arrangement.

The investigation further revealed that many of the companies used as a smokescreen had no economic activity at all - despite the fact that in many instances the illegal operation involved false pay slips. Damages to INPS alone have been calculated at around €80,000.

Salvini is fulfilling what he promised Italians during his campaign

Italy’s Matteo Salvini, is launching a remigration plan, towards his final goal, a safer Italy.

Already the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Salvini has almost completely ended illegal immigration via the sea and has combatted the illegal immigration business and human trafficking NGOs.


Now a budget of 12 million euros has been allocated by Italy’s government to remigrate illegals coming from places such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria and Ivory Coast. Half of the costs will be covered by the EU.

With the recent security administrative order, the new plan will facilitate the work of Italy’s security forces in removing illegals and remigration them back to their countries of origin.

A well organised lawful remigration programme is the only answer to the problems and instability caused by ‘multiculturalism’ and irresponsible border laws allowing uncontrolled mass immigration from third-world countries, according to the Interior Minister.

Trump to sign executive order to end citizenship for children born in U.S. to noncitizens

President Trump is planning to sign an executive order that would seek to end the right to U.S. citizenship for children of noncitizens born on U.S. soil, he said in a television interview taped on Monday.

The move, which many legal experts say runs afoul of the Constitution, would be the most aggressive yet by a president elected to office pledging to take a hard line on immigration, an issue he has revived in advance of next week’s midterm elections.

“We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States for 85 years with all of those benefits,” Trump said during an interview with Axiosscheduled to air as part of a new HBO series starting this weekend. “It’s ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. And it has to end.”

Trump, who has long decried “anchor babies,” said he has discussed the move with his legal counsel and believes it can be accomplished with executive action, a view at odds with the opinions of many legal scholars.

“It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t,” Trump told Axios.

When told that view is disputed, Trump asserted: “You can definitely do it with an act of Congress. But now they’re saying I can do it just with an executive order.”

“It’s in the process. It’ll happen . . . with an executive order,” he said, without offering a time frame.

The move would be certain to spark a constitutional debate about the meaning of the 14th Amendment. It reads: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

According to Washington Post, legal scholars have widely interpreted that to mean that anyone born on American soil automatically becomes a natural-born citizen.

In a National Review column last month, for instance, New York lawyer Dan McLaughlin wrote that there are “fair grounds for debate” about the wisdom of the policy but little doubt on the law.

“A proper originalist interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, as presently written, guarantees American citizenship to those born within our borders, with only a few limited exceptions,” McLaughlin wrote.

Some other scholars have argued that the case for birthright citizenship is based on a misreading of the 14th Amendment, which was drafted in relation to former slaves following the U.S. Civil War.

Michael Anton, a former national security official in the Trump administration, recently sought to advance that argument in a Washington Post op-ed, writing that the “notion that simply being born within the geographical limits of the United States automatically confers U.S. citizenship is an absurdity — historically, constitutionally, philosophically and practically.”

In the Axios interview, Trump incorrectly asserted that the United States is the only country that offers birthright citizenship.

NumbersUSA, a group that favors reduced immigration, has compiled a list that shows 33 nations grant citizenship to anyone born within their borders.

The list includes Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and most other countries in Central and South America. The United States and Canada are the only two “developed” countries, as defined by the International Monetary Fund, that have unrestricted birthright citizenship laws.

Trump’s acknowledged his planned executive order as his administration prepared to take several other steps to address immigration in advance of the midterm elections.

Homeland Security and Pentagon officials said Monday that they will send 5,200 troops, military helicopters and giant spools of razor wire to the Mexican border in the coming days to brace for what Trump is calling an “invasion” of Central American migrants.

The troop deployment appears to be the largest U.S. active-duty mobilization along the U.S.-Mexico boundary in decades and amounts to a significant militarization of American border security.

The Islamic Movement of Nigeria has alleged that about 50 of its members were killed on Monday along the Nyanya-Keffi expressway by officials of the Nigerian Army.

A member of the group, Mohammed Gamara, who spoke with Channels Television in Abuja said this, noting that about 200 others were injured.

“So far, I don’t have the exact number of the casualties and the martyrs but if we say they are more than 50, killed by the Nigerian Army, I don’t think I will be exaggerating,” Gamara said.

The sect members were said to have clashed with the security operatives while they embarked on a march in Abuja.

According to ChannelsTV, the incident led to a gridlock which lasted for hours along the Nyanya-Keffi expressway forcing many to make their way by foot.

The Army is, however, yet to react to the allegations.

It also comes about 24 hours after members of the sect held a similar march along the Nyaya/Mararaba axis of Nasarawa State, on their way to Abuja.

On Saturday, three members of the sect were killed after a clash with troops of the Nigerian Army.

According to a statement by the Commander of the Army headquarters Garrison, Major General James Myam, the clash occurred on Saturday afternoon at Zuba bridge in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

He explained that the sect members, who were supposedly in a procession, set up an illegal roadblock along the route, which the convoy of the troops attempted to clear.

While doing so, General Myam said some members of the group attacked the troops who were escorting missiles and ammunition from Abuja to the Army Central Ammunition Depot in Kaduna State.

In defence, the troops opened fire on the IMN members which resulted in the killing of three of them.

Ghanaian footballer and captain of the Ghana Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan has allegedly filed for divorce from his wife, Gifty Gyan, at the Divorce and Matrimonial Division of the High Court, Accra.

The footballer has also denied fathering their three children and is demanding a DNA test to be carried out on all three to ascertain if he is the father of the children.

GhanaWeb.com is reliably informed that Gyan and his wife Gifty have not seen eye to eye in the last few months, but the desire of the Black Stars captain to officially terminate the five-year marriage is a clear indication that their differences have now become irreconcilable.

The news outlet is also reliably informed that the footballer, who filed for divorce in August this year is currently making preparation to marry an Accra-based business woman, once his marriage to Gifty is annulled by the court.

Although Gyan has had a ‘scandal-laden’ career, he has successfully shielded his wife and three children from the public eye and media scrutiny.

Details of why Asamoah Gyan’s marriage to Gifty has hit the rocks are unknown but sources close to the estranged wife say Gyan grew cold towards Gifty after another woman came into his life.

The said woman was in June this year mistaken for Asamoah Gyan’s wife at the grand opening of his new sports bar located in Osu, Accra.

Interestingly, the same lady was mentioned as Asamoah Gyan’s wife when Emmanuel ‘Game Boy’ Tagoe fought his last bout in defense of his IBO World title this month.

She was also spotted in town with the footballer when he came to Ghana recently for his summer vacation.

When rumors started making the rounds earlier this year about a possible love-affair between Gyan and the said woman, the business woman denied it.

She explained that her relationship with Gyan was purely professional as she owns a property that houses one of Gyan’s companies. But investigation by GhanaWeb reveals that the relationship between the business woman and Asamoah Gyan is beyond ‘landlord- tenant’ relationship as the two are currently courting and set to marry after his divorce to his current wife Gifty Gyan.

The latest indication of the current troubles in the marriage was the alleged seizure of Gifty’s passport by Baffour Gyan, who is the elder brother of Asamoah Gyan, to supposedly prevent her from returning to Asamoah’s residence in the United Kingdom.

Gyan and Gifty have been together since 2003 and got married in 2013 after their second child was born.

Sources close to Asamoah Gyan confirmed GhanaWeb’s story but declined to comment publicly.

Ethiopia has announced that effective from 9, November, 2018, nationals of all African countries will get visa upon arrival without prior application, as part of “PM Abiy Ahmed’s vision of a closer and full regional integration in #Africa”

A statement by Fitsum Arega, Chief of Staff, in the Prime Minister’s Office, confirmed the development. Arega, posted on Twitter: “Consistent with PM Abiy Ahmed’s vision of a closer and full regional integration in #Africa—where minds are open to ideas and markets are open to trade, Ethiopia will start on arrival visa to all Africans starting from November 9, 2018. #Ethiopia @AfricanUnion”.

The policy will open up the east African country to African visitors, and it will undoubtedly ease the free movement of African nationals and boost tourism. The announcement is indeed laudable and demonstrates that African countries are beginning to act on the implementation of the African Union’s (AU) 2063 Agenda for “a continent with seamless borders” to help facilitate the free movement of African citizens.

The news that Rwanda will soon commence issuing visa-on-arrival for all African countries is being celebrated by many across the continent on social media.

Rwanda visa-on-arrival example

On 1 January this year, Rwanda started implementing a new visa regime where nationals of all countries get a visa upon arrival without prior application.

Th issuance of visa-on-arrival for all countries was widely celebrated by many across the continent, and on social media.

A number of African countries have in the past year started implementing the 30-day visa-on-arrival policy recommended by the AU, and these include Kenya, Ghana and Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe offers visas on arrival for SADC members and several international countries).

However, other countries have been slow in implementing the 30-day visa-on-arrival policy recommended by the AU. The visa policies of most African states remain restrictive, and the countries are inaccessible to African visitors.

The AU has appealed to countries to review their visa policies to “implement mechanisms allowing for the issuing of visas on arrival for citizens of Member States, with the possibility of a 30-day stay”.

The Africa Visa Openness Index, a guide by the African Development Bank (AfDB) reveals how Africa countries remain largely closed off to African citizens.

According to AfDB, “on average Africans need visas to travel to 55% of other African countries, can get visas on arrival in only 25% of other countries and don’t need a visa to travel to just 20% of other countries on the continent”.

AfDB recommends that African countries should promote more visa-free regional blocs, push for greater reciprocity, and introduce more visa on arrival policies for Africans.

The AU has urged member states to champion the  visa on arrival initiative, identified as “critical to facilitating and encourage intra-African trade and investments, as well as tourism. With a growing middle class, we must encourage intra – Africa tourism”.

The Chairman of Igbo Union in Finland,  Chief Barrister Simon Ekpa hosted the Nigerian community in Finland as his son Prince Adam Ekpa marks his 2nd year birthday in the city of Lahti which is about 85 kilometers from Helsinki.


The birthday party was largely attended by the Igbo Union members and guests from different parts of Finland including the Finns.


Barrister Simon Ekpa is a known figure in Finland most especially among the African community where he has distinguished himself in the legal profession. He has assisted quite a number of foreigners who has been through some kind of immigration related issues.

This is a big error

A church in the Italian city of Bergamo will be transformed into a mosque, newspaper Il Giornale reports.

After the Muslim Association of Bergamo won an auction, it became the owner of a former hospital chapel.

For about three years the church housed the religious services of the Romanian Orthodox community, which has more than 2,000 believers.


The auction was held yesterday and the Muslim Association won it thanks to a bid that was eight per cent higher than the starting price of 418,700 euros.

It will take 90 days to finish the transfer and complete the process, the Italian newspaper writes.

Idir Ouchickh, president of the Islamic association, explained that the intention is to keep the site’s destination as a place of worship.

If built, the ex-Riuniti mosque will be the second in Bergamo, after the one in Via Cenisio, officially recognised since 2013.

The League party of Interior Minister Salvini is not amused and announced that they will test the procedure.

“We will go and check the proceedings of the auction to see if historical constraints have been imposed and if there are reasons to cancel the race itself”, declared the representatives of the Bergamo League, the deputies Daniele Belotti and Alberto Ribolli.

A young person is diagnosed with chlamydia or gonorrhea every four minutes in England, Public Health England (PHE) has said.

There were more than 144,000 diagnoses of the two sexually transmitted infections (STIs), also referred to as STDs, in people aged between 15 and 24 last year -- equating to just under 400 a day.

A significant increase in gonorrhea diagnoses in England was recorded, with a 22% rise in cases of the disease from 2016 to 2017.

"STIs present a real threat to young people, and without using condoms, young people are putting themselves and their partners at risk of getting an STI," said Dr Hamish Mohammed, Consultant STI Scientist at PHE.

The figures were announced alongside a campaign by PHE urging young people to use condoms.

Around two-thirds of chlamydia cases and one-third of gonorrhea cases in England last year were in the 15 to 24-year-old age bracket, the findings showed.

"Often STIs don't have any symptoms, with four in 10 cases of chlamydia in women and around half of the cases in men symptomless, and they can have serious consequences," said Dr. Sara Kayat, a general practitioner at Gray's Inn Medical Practice in London.

"Rates of STIs remain high in young people, and we want to make sure people know that the best way to protect themselves from getting an STI is to use a condom," Kayat said.

Overall, there were 422,147 STIs diagnosed across all ages groups in England last year, of which just under half were chlamydia.

The overall number was steady from the previous year, thanks in part to a 90% decline in genital warts diagnoses in 15 to 17-year-olds following a national immunization program.

"The statistics are really concerning," Cynthia Graham, professor of sexual and reproductive health at the University of Southampton, told CNN. "There has been for many years now a push towards long-acting reversible contraception, which are highly effective methods of contraception - but they don't protect at all, of course, against STIs," she said.

"There hasn't been the same attention in the UK towards STIs that there has been toward unintended pregnancies," she added. "There should be a lot more attention paid to condom distribution."

Graham also pointed to complaints that young people make about using condoms, such as their effects on sensation, and on gendered perceptions about their use, as reasons for the STI rates amongst younger people.

"It's still seen as a stigma for women to carry condoms. I find it amazing in 2018, that's still around," she said.

And she noted that cuts in public health funding are having an effect. "I almost think the rise in STIs could worsen over the next few years, because of the cuts," she said.

A 22-year-old Gambian man killed himself on Monday after being denied political asylum and reportedly due to ”feeling like a failure”. The young man had been living in Italy for the past two years. He hanged himself from a ledge of a terrace in Castellaneta Marina.

The Babele association reported the news and is raising funds to send his body back to his home country.

Allegedly caused by depression

Italian interior ministry sources say that the deceased had a stay permit that would have expired in March 2019. He had submitted a request for refugee status that was rejected on December 7, 2016. He had then filed an appeal and on October 12 the judge had held back his decision and thus had not given a final ruling.

The sources say that the young man’s friends had told carabinieri that the act had been “due to a state of depression. Investigators say that the 22-year-old had also said that he planned to go back to Gambia through assisted voluntary repatriation.”
An activist from the Babele association said: ”he decided to kill himself at age 22. He had received a rejection. He could not stay here in Italy any longer, in accordance with the law. And this is how the life of a boy like many others has ended, in which violence and years of hardship had produced a dull pain that was never dealt with. We will now bring his body back to his village in Gambia.”


Funds being raised to take body back to Gambia
The 22-year-old was initially in reception facilities in the Lecce area but was later transferred to Castellaneta Marina, where he worked at occasional jobs. After his request for refugee status was rejected, ”he was never at peace again”, the sources said.


The Babele association has opened a bank account for donations – calls for which have been made through social networks – to take his body back to his native land. The money is needed quickly, they said, ”about 5,000 euros to pay the funeral services company that would be tasked with taking his body back. We will make his last wish come true.”

A peacemaker, identified simply as Christian, has been stabbed to death in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, while trying to settle a quarrel over N200 bottle of beer between a beer parlour operator, Temitope Adedayo, and a customer, Taiwo Olatokunbo.

Twenty-three-year-old Olatokunbo allegedly stabbed Christian to death during the quarrel.

According to Punch, the suspect was said to have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command.

Olatokunbo reportedly went to the beer parlour on Ijagun Road, Ijebu Ode, on Saturday, and ordered for a bottle of beer, but refused to pay.

Olatokunbo’s refusal to pay was said to have led to an argument with the beer parlour operator.

Christian had wanted to settle the matter.

The intervention reportedly  infuriated Olatokunbo, who allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed Christian.

The victim was rushed to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital, where he died.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the iransfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department,” he added.
