Leonado Di Caprio, the star actor in the classic award winning movie finally got his hands on a SAG award. He picked up the gong for best male actor for his role in The Revenant. He had been up against Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs), Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), and Johnny Depp (Black Mass). During his acceptance speech, Leo said: I’m truly humbled by this because it comes from all of you, my fellow actors. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. When I was 15 years old, I was lucky enough to get a film called This Boy’s Life and for about a year after that I watched as many films as I possibly could from Jimmy Cagney all the way to Robert De Niro. It gave me such a tremendous respect for this craft, this craft of acting. I was in awe of their performances, and I was incredibly inspired. So for any young actors out there, I encourage you to watch the history of cinema because as the history of cinema unfolds, you realize that we all stand on the shoulders of giants.’ - See more of his speeches and photos at: http://www.naijasilvergold.com/blog/2016/01/31/leonardo-dicaprio-finally-got-his-hands-on-a-sag-award/#sthash.DE8vo6Pz.dpuf |
What could it be like for a renowned Hollywood star to pay a visit to the Head of one of the world’s largest religion. This was what transpired when Titanic Star Leonardo DiCaprio paid a visit to Pope Francis at the Vatican. Pope Francis and Leonardo DiCaprio are both well known for their support for the preservation of the environment. It is not a surprise that both of them are environmentalist. He was seen to have donated some money in support of charity while in return the Pope presented a copy of the groundbreaking encyclical on the environment, “Laudato Si’,” which was published last year. The amiable Pontiff who became head of the Catholic church in 2013, was said to have told the Actor “Pray for me, don’t forget!”. Just early this month, DiCaprio had attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he receives the Crystal Award for his efforts to address environmental challenges - See more at: http://www.naijasilvergold.com/#sthash.aoTvAO22.dpuf View more photos of them below. - See more at: http://www.naijasilvergold.com/#sthash.aoTvAO22.dpuf |
With the rate at which our political actors defect from one party to another, It is pleasant to see one Governor who remains steadfast with his party regardless of the problems going on in the party. Fayose of Ekiti state has assured his Osun state counter part Aregbesola that he wiil never leave the PDP but rather he will remain to play the role of an opposition to the Government which everyone will agree he is doing well. The question to nairalanders is will he keep to his words considering the nature of our politicians who say one thing in the morning, change it in the afternoon and deny ever saying it in the night. http://www.naijasilvergold.com/blog/2016/01/27/pdp-is-dead-areg…emocratic-nation/ |
As the US Presidential election heats up. Expectations are high as to who will likely win the US Democratic party primary elections and that of their rivals, The Republican Primary elections. Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders have been running a tough campaign for months now, coupled with the series of debate they have had. Some of the polls recently shows Sen. Sanders leading the polls followed closely by Hillary Clinton. President Obama is yet to officially endorse a particular candidate not to be seen as using his office to back a particular candidate against another, something which is common in our country. Who do you think is likely to win the Democrats Presidential primaries and your reasons and who do you think Obama will eventually support judging by his remarks below. http://www.naijasilvergold.com/blog/2016/01/26/us-2016-presidential-elections-obama-comments-on-hillary-clinton-and-sen-bernie-sanders-rivalry/ |
There is a popular saying that "he who comes to equity must come with clean hands" Another saying also says "those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones". That having said, when does it warrant one to attack a party and when to be silent, This article is focused on the present travails of Olisa Metuh, the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), known for his fiercest attack of the then opposition party, the now ruling party: All Progressive Congress. It will be recalled the media battle that transpired between the erstwhile Publicity Secretary of the APC now Nigeria's Minister of Information: Lai Mohammed. It isn't a hidden fact that Olisa Metuh was a pain on the APC party and the new Government in his constant criticism of the party before and after the 2015 general elections. This won him some die-hard fans both within and outside the party who admired his courage and doggedness, but that cannot be said to be the same now as revelations from the EFCC have indicted him of having partaken in the misuse of Government funds meant for the procurement of arms for the Military in their fight against the insurgency in the North-East region. It has been proved of how he collected close to 400 million naira from the man in the centre of the arms scandal, Sambo Dasuki the former National Security Adviser. Though he has stated that the funds he collected was used for an undisclosed work he did for the Ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan. Presently, he has been granted bail with certain conditions. The question many are asking is; was the offence committed by Olisa Metuh worse than previous political or Government officials who have been known to have embezzled far more than what Olisa is been accused of? The answer may be No, but what is interesting about Metuh's political travails lies in his previous open attack on the APC-led Government which has been trying to cleanse the country of the corruption that has been entrenched upon her, a vice he was also part of. It was bad he had accused the Government of not doing enough in both improving the state of the economy and the fight against the dreaded Bokoharam sect, when he had been responsible for the lack of weapons needed by the military to fight the insurgents. Perhaps, this may explain why the Federal Government and the EFCC seems to be taking his case seriously, many have questioned the rationale behind his been handcuffed on his way to the court, an action that was not carried out on Sambo Dasuki, the main actor behind the arms scandal as well other previous political officials indicted in the past for corrupt practices while in office. Had Olisa Metuh been less critical of the APC-led Government even though his post as the publicity secretary required that, perhaps his present ordeals would have been less. But no, he chose rather to criticize them fiercely forgetful of the fact that he also had a dark skeleton hidden in his cupboard waiting to be unveiled. He should have lied low like other past corrupt Government officials who are rarely seen and not heard in the political scene. He also faces the chance of been removed from his post as the Publicity Secretary of the same party whom he stood for and defended, this is as some members of the People Democratic party (PDP) are trying to disassociate themselves from him. This may further render him politically irrelevant sooner or later. The lesson in Metuh's travail, can be summarized in a local saying : A black pot shouldn't call a Black kettle black, until it is has gotten rid of its own dirt. See photos of how he was handcuffed below http://www.naijasilvergold.com/blog/2016/01/24/when-it-pays-to-be-silent-the-political-mistakes-of-olisa-metuh-that-may-affect-his-career/ |

It is amazing how people find reasons to kill one another out of sheer wickedness. But it has never gotten so bad that our respected traditional rulers have joined the high ranking individuals for target by both kidnappers and murderers. Dear Nairalanders, I want to know if it is our modern civilization whatever anyone may call it, that is causing this disregard for our respected Traditional Rulers. The kidnapping and murder of His Royal Majesty, Obi Akaeze Ofulue the III, the traditional ruler the Obi of Ubulu-Uku should give our Government cause for concern.
