Celebrities join in the Support of the Women’s March

As women across the various cities in the United states and other parts of the world protest against Donald Trump. Some celebrities including A-list celebrities including Ashley Judd, Scarlett Johansson, Katy Perry, Madonna America Ferrera, Sophia Bush, Patricia Arquette have joined the women folks in their wide protest against the new president.

Celebs who couldn’t make it to D.C. could be seen at local marches in Los Angeles, London and even Park City, Utah, where the Sundance Film Festival is currently going on. Among some of the performers included Alicia Keys who performed at the Women’s March on Washington. Madonna also spoke at the march, after which she performed.

Celebrities were not alone as politicians including the Former Secretary of State John Kerry who is just a private citizen for 24 hours after leaving his office was also out there, accompanied by his dog. There have been rallies being held in more than 20 countries across the world on the first day of the President in the White House.
Senator Warren was also ferocious as she was during the campaign for Hillary. She spoke during the protest saying “We will not build any stupid wall”.

The United State has la ong-standing tradition among Presidents of the United States who write a letter to the incoming president on their Inauguration Day. And now two such letters from the past that of Bill Clinton to George W. Bush, and Bush to Barack Obama have been made public for the first time.

The historical letters were obtained by ABC News, the letter Bush left Obama after his successful and historic presidential campaign revealed the views the then-incumbent president had for his successor.

“Malia and Sasha, eight years ago on a cold November day, we greeted you on the steps of the White House. We saw both the light and wariness in your eyes as you gazed at your new home,” they wrote.

News filtered in London over an incident which almost claimed the live of Queen Elizabeth. According to Sunday express which broke the news. A former guardsman had told how he “nearly shot” Queen Elizabeth while she took a late-night walk around the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

The queen who is said to occasionally suffer insomnia, and as a way of combating it, is said to sometimes put on a mac and walk around the palace grounds. This was stated by an anonymous ex-guardsman quoted by the Times of London’s Times Diary.

On one of such occasion, The Times reported the guardsman was patrolling inside the perimeter of the palace walls at 3 a.m. when he spotted a strange figure in the darkness.

Thinking that he had come across an intruder, he shouted: “Who’s that?” To his surprise, it was the queen.

“Bloody hell, Your Majesty, I nearly shot you,” he shouted.

“That’s quite all right,” the queen apparently replied.

“Next time I’ll ring through beforehand so you don’t have to shoot me.” The Queen had replied.

With the rising tension between the United states and Russia following the drastic actions taken by the Obama administration against Russia for their alleged hacking during the US elections last November. The White House expelled from the U.S. 35 Russians whom it characterized as intelligence operatives, and the State Department said it has close two properties it said were used for the Kremlin’s intelligence operation.

But the Russian government in response to the action declined to retaliate. The Russian embassy in UK took to Twitter on Thursday and Friday to mock the U.S. after President Obama announced sanctions and other punishments in retaliation for the Kremlin’s interference in U.S. elections. The Russia’s embassy in the United Kingdom stated it was looking forward to President-elect Donald Trump’s administration and used a photo on twitter to illustrate the fact that Obama is a “lame duck” president with only a handful of days left in office.

The Russia’s U.S. embassy also published a “season’s greetings” statement from Putin to various world leaders, Trump, past U.S. Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush — but not Obama. Renowned Singer and former Wham! member George Michael has been found dead in his home at age 53, this was announced by his publicist.

“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,” his publicist said in a statement. “The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. Born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, George Michael found fame in the early 1980s as a member of the group Wham!, with another fellow singer and guitarist Andrew Ridgeley. The duo scored a U.S. and U.K. #1 hit with “Wake Me Up before You Go-Go” in 1984.

The confrontation from Dan Goldstein a lawyer saw him and his wife been kicked off the JetBlue flight. The Lawyer problems came after he had expressed his displeasure at sharing the flight with Donald Trump’s daughter.

Due to his confrontation, the married couple was asked to leave the plane with their child.

Dan Goldstein, a lawyer from Brooklyn, was travelling with his husband, Matthew Lasner and their young son on a JetBlue flight, when he allegedly confronted the mother-of-three saying: “Your father is ruining the country.”

The 538 members of the US Electoral College meets this Monday in the capital of each of the 50 states to designate who becomes the successor of Barack Obama as the president of the United States.
Even though the November 8 general election saw Donald Trump win the highest electoral votes. His victory will now be confirmed after the Electoral college carry out their elections.

A candidate must obtain an absolute majority of the vote — or 270 of the 538 to claim the presidency. Trump is tipped to win the highest votes. No candidate in US history that lost the general election succeeded in winning in getting the votes of the electoral college.

As the 538 members of the Electoral College meet across each state to elect the president and vice president in their state capitols, expectations are high as supporters of Hillary Clinton are hoping for a comeback. While it is possible that few electors who are pledged to Trump could decide to vote for Clinton or another candidate, there is every likelihood that Trump will get the 270 electoral votes he needs to win.

Penalties are usually imposed on rogue electors, According to the National Conference of State Legislatures on its website, “Some states have passed laws that require their electors to vote as pledged. These laws may either impose a fine on an elector who fails to vote according to the statewide or district popular vote, or may disqualify an elector who violates his or her pledge and provide a replacement elector

the states have until December 28 to transmit their “Certificates of Vote” to the Congress and the National Archives in Washington, while the formal announcement of the name of the next president will be made by the Congress on January 6.

It was with a great surprise on sunday when the Miss World pageant organizers announced Miss Puerto Rico the 2016 winner. Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle was crowned Miss World 2016 on Sunday, winning the top prize in the 66th edition of the pageant held this year in the United States.

The first runner-up was Yaritza Miguelina Reyes Ramirez of the Dominican Republic. Indonesia’s Natasha Mannuela took third place.
This year’s edition saw contestants from more than 100 countries take part in the Miss World beauty pageant, held at National Harbor near Washington, D.C.

FBI now supports the CIA on Russia’s hacking motives

The allegations over Russia’s role in the just concluded US elections took center stage like week. The FBI is now supporting the CIA’s conclusion that Russia interfered in the presidential election with the goal of aiding Republican candidate Donald Trump’s victory. Series of leaked emails bedevilled the democratic party, even leading to the resignation of the DNC chairman.

In a message sent to employees, CIA Director John Brennan said he had spoken with FBI Director James Comey and James Clapper, the director of national intelligence.

According Brennan’s message “there is strong consensus among us on the scope, nature, and intent of Russian interference in our presidential election.”

With the Russians demanding to see evidence that implicates them in the cyber-attacks allegations, President Barack Obama is now vowing retaliation for hacking operations aimed at interfering with the U.S. election.

“I think there is no doubt that when any foreign government tries to impact the integrity of our elections … we need to take action. And we will — at a time and place of our own choosing,” the president told NPR on Thursday.

“Some of it may be explicit and publicized; some of it may not be,” he added.

Meanwhile the man at the center of this allegations Vladimir Putin, Russia president and a former KGB operative has kept quiet on the issue as U.S. officials say that they have solid evidence that he personally ordered and directed the cyber operations, which in several cases – saw the private emails of prominent Democrats spilled out into public view.

“Mr. Putin is well aware of my feelings about this, because I spoke to him directly about it,”

Obama told NPR, referring to a sideline discussion between the two leaders at a G20 summit in China this past September.

“What is it about our political system that made us vulnerable to these kinds of potential manipulations which, as I’ve said publicly before, were not particularly sophisticated. This was not some elaborate complicated espionage scheme. They hacked into some Democratic Party emails that contained pretty routine stuff, some of it embarrassing or uncomfortable,” he said.

He warned that if the U.S. continues to be targeted, it can respond.”Our goal continues to be to send a clear message to Russia or others not to do this to us because we can do stuff to you. But it is also important for us to do that in a thoughtful methodical way. Some of it we do publicly. Some of it we will do in a way that they know but not everybody will,” The outgoing president said.
On whether Obama who has just barely 4 weeks left in office would taken any drastic action on Russia is left to be seen. One thing is clear to international observers, Putin has found an ally in the president-elect, such would not have been the case had Hillary Clinton won the election

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Pope Francis who turns 80 on December 17. The President’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina in Abuja on Friday.

The President joined the Roman Catholic Church in particular in celebrating the milestone in the life of the Catholic Pontiff. According to the president Pope Francis had shown uncommon humility, generosity and love for humanity.

According to him, Pope Francis has lived, preached and demonstrated the tenets of the Christian faith like Saint Francis of Assisi, who influenced the world around him by caring for the weak, the poor and helpless.

The President assured that the teachings of His Holiness on peace, love and tolerance in a world embroiled in conflicts would not be lost on leaders, and would continue to resonate through many generations.

He prayed that the almighty God would grant Pope Francis longer life and good health as he serves God and humanity. President Buhari also shares the same birthday with the Pope.

Following the recent revelations from the CIA that Russia had influenced the US elections in favour of the President elect DOnald Trump. There has been some war of words that has erupted between the White House and President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team over the reports of Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Despite what both the Obama administration and Trump’s team may have everyone believe that there is a smooth transition of power following a historically vitriolic presidential race.

The White House press secretary Josh Earnest made several attacks at the president-elect and his team during press briefings, even suggesting this week that Trump knowingly benefited from Russian hacking into computer systems of the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign.

According to the spokesman to the president “There’s ample evidence that was known long before the election, and in most cases long before October, about the Trump campaign and Russia,” Earnest said Wednesday. He said the evidence included “everything from the Republican nominee himself calling on Russia to hack his opponent. It might be an indication that he was obviously aware and concluded based on whatever facts or sources he was, he had available to him that Russia was involved.”

Meanwhile Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway took issue with Earnest’s remarks while appearing on Fox News Thursday morning.

“That is just remarkable. That is breathtaking,” Conway said. “It’s incredibly irresponsible, and I wonder if his boss, President Obama, agrees.”

She further suggested if the investigation into Clinton’s private email server as secretary of state should be relaunched, even though Trump himself has said it’s time to put that issue in the past.

“When you are talking about hacking into emails, why have we left behind the piece of evidence that’s right in front of us?” Conway said of the Clinton emails. “What are people going to say? ‘Oh, we already investigated that. We already know everything about that.’ Do we?”

Trump as usual had taken to Twitter on Thursday morning to criticize Obama’s recent order of a full investigation into Russian hacking in the U.S. election, following leaks to reporters that the CIA felt Russia had sought to influence the election in Trump’s favor.

If Russia, or some other entity, was hacking, why did the White House wait so long to act? Why did they only complain after Hillary lost? Trump tweeted.

She had a long-lived family: Both her mother and her aunt along with some of her siblings reached 90 years. One of her sisters, Angela Morano (1908–2011),died at age 102. In October 1926, she got married to her husband Giovanni Martinuzzi. The marriage was not happy so in 1938 she separated from her husband, but despite the couple’s separation, they remained married until his death in 1978. Her only child died at just six months old in 1937.

The members of the House of Representative have described former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, as the most corrupt president Nigeria ever had. The attack is coming on shortly after the former president who is known for his criticism for leaders had made some harsh comments for the lawmakers yesterday, describing the National Assembly as a den of corruption inhabited by a gang of unarmed robbers and stinking worse than the judiciary.

The House spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas reacted to the former leader’s remark when he addressed a press conference on Thursday, November 24, accussing Obasanjo of being a mischief maker and a life time opposition leader, who blackmails every government that he is not part of. He further alleged that the former leader was effectively plotting to derail the government of Muhammadu Buhari in the same manner he allegedly did to successive presidents since 1979.

“It is unfortunate that he has started his very familiar method of bringing down governments. He did it to Alhaji Shehu Shagari, he did it to Gen. Buhari, he did same to Gen. Babangida, he attempted to bring down Gen. Abacha before he imprisoned him for treason; he made frantic efforts to derail the government of President Ya’ardua when he couldn’t use him. “He supported President Goodluck Jonathan but when he refused to take dictation, he turned against him. He supported President Buhari, but since he has sensed that Nigeria is having economic difficulties under him, he has pounced to derail his government. “The way Chief Obasanjo talks gives the impression that he is a lifetime opposition leader who has never held any office. What did he do about the issues he raised in his 8 years as President? “We have repeatedly maintained that there was no “padding” of the 2016 Appropriation Act, which is a legitimate document passed by the National Assembly, authenticated by the Clerk to the National Assembly as provided in the Acts Authentication Act and assented to by Mr. President.

“It is most unfortunate that a former President of Chief Obasanjo’s stature would allow himself to be hoodwinked and procured by a renegade member of the House, who embarked on massive propaganda and lies just because he was removed from office,” Namdas said.

As Americans go to the polls tomorrow, I feel like offering my personal opinions which may not matter but which for undecided voters especially Nairalanders living in the United State and have the chance to vote.

Let me start by saying that For our guys supporting trump om the premise that hillary is crooked not trustyworthy and a liar. They should just wait and see. Try voting Trump into the oval office and you will see an emperor or a war lord who will issue an arrest on any journalist who criticizes him or even at the slightest provocation from country declare war and after the deed has been done. if it goes bad he would wake up the next day denying giving the order to invade the country or best still dismiss it as a joke he played on the nation. He feels nothing is wrong with his foundation which is still undergoing investigation alongside his fraudulent university but find it convenient to criticize the Clinton foundation which to a large extent is far better than his. Everything he does or say is right but not so with his critics. Thats the typical Trump who feels anything bad he does is acceptable and whatever hillary or the media does is bad. How hypocritical.

Probably the reason the revered 16th US President Lincoln once described hypocrisy as a child who murders his parents and when he was at the point of been sentenced to death, he pleaded for leniency. when asked by the judge on what grounds he asking for mercy. His response was: I am an orphan.

That is basically what trump does with all his lies and denials of actions he made in the past. Many wonder if the billionaire has memory loss. He either denies claims he makes in the public or refuses to apologize for any mistake, But clinton doesn't find it hard to apologize for her past mistakes especially on the email scandal which
the trump campaign has been feasting on. What makes you a leader is when you err, you owe up and accept the responsibilities you made.

Glad the press are always on ground to check all his misleading facts. If he taught he could rely on his showbiz and business acumen in winning the GOP ticket well the general election is different. He surely met his match in Hillary clinton. Yes the US may have not faired better even though the obama administration has done a better job. But if the US people glamour or strive for change, then Trump is certainly not that guy, they better make do with clinton and wait for another four years for a better GOP candidate who is prepared and have what it takes to face her if she wins Nov 8.

Finally, is clinton perfect, No, infact no president has ever been found perfect and no leader since time immemorial either in US or outside has ever been regardless of the achievements they might have made. They have all made some mistakes in the course of their job, but history always judges them more by what they accomplished and not by their failings. What matters when you are confronted with two choices to make or two
evils as some may say. it is only natural you go for the lesser evil (forgive my use of the word). Hillary may not be evil as Trump seems to paint her but she certainly is the better candidate for the united states. This is based on her wealth of experience knowledge of the job and her better temperament especially for an office regarded as the most powerful in the world.

Hillary outweighs Trump on all criteria and will do well as a President than Trump who brags about changing a nation when he couldn't even manage his university positively lest of all his campaign team. I couldn't agree less with popular hollywood actor George Clooney who described Trump as someone who is just an opportunist. Now he's a fascist; a xenophobic fascist," he said bluntly. "You can count on Americans to do the right thing after they've exhausted all the other possibilities."

Americans should not make the mistake of what Germans did in 20th century when a saviour in disguise came promising them heaven on earth and blaming their problems on an innocent race, we all know what that leader did to his country and the world at large. People easily forget history they only seem to remember the dates but forget the lessons.

Lastly despite the dire need for change in any political setting let them know that not all change is good. some could lead to a dangerous path like 20th century Germany under hitler, removal of Gaddafi in libya and Saddam Hussein in iraq.

Glamouring for a genuine change should not just be change for the sake of change, a mistake done by a wrong choice can destroy a nation for more than forty years than it may take another four years to recover from. As far as I am concerned Donald Trump offered little beyond his business experience.

American needs a calm, thoughtful leadership to deal with the challenges they face at home and abroad. US needs a leader who will bring out the best in all Americans, not the worst, a leader who will unite the nation not divide it for selfish interest.
