I think you should follow your heart - its more than pressure - maybe you should backpedal instead of trying to "prove yourself" . it may not be that your inefficient but that your brain has to "ripen" naturally. there was a problem i was working on for months- a simple program - to others but as a hobbyist i was taking way to long. what did i do - i stopped coding and chilled , thinking of the problem without any respect to time, months passed by when i finally got back to solving the problem , it was a breeze, i redesigned the entire program because i could now "see" the relationship in my mind. its like trying to get a primary school kid to understand university level studies- the kid may b very smart but telling him to prove himself may burn him out. so, mayb you should back pedal, keep up your recreational coding for say 1 year, move into another role, and when your done with your self projects present them to your boss or sell em to your boss' company. A programmer should never be rushed.but if you can stand it fine - let your brain mature. i can't stress that enough. |
if a nigerian education on a subject delivers to you - 30 percent of an undergraduate body of knowledge, then a 1st class in that field going by what he was taught know say 80 - 90 % of what he was taught. then what about 2.2 and third classes ? they know say 10% of 30 % . but they are those who do stand out and shine and perform feats. yeah, they are. but those folks took their education into their hands and didnt wait for the system to give it to them. to substantiate the university degree , a student has to travel abroad to get a foreign ,more substantive , education. so whats the paper for? its for fanning yourself with. and telling everybody you've met the benchmark to be called a non-illiterate. its to appease your ego. then later on, maybe earn some bread. |
@ladej no country would touch a non- degree holder in top positions. which goes to underscore a point i raised - that levels below degree levels are regarded as 'non education' infact, education in a word means bsc or bA (minimun) anything below that reads illiterate. its an ego thing. it doesnt matter that its illogical. as for the nigerian degree thing. a nigerian graduate ,especially in the physical sciencces, probably is taught only 30 % of what he should know. so on graduation he's largely ignorant. thats why they can't deliver. if you're partly illiterate in the field of specialty compared to your counterparts worldwide what then is the degree representing to you? lecturers r thinking of their bele and have stopped engaging in "research for knowledge sake" . students just want the grade to read 2.1 or 1st class. who care about knowledge here. its largely for the ego and prospects sake. sb mentioned that bill gates and the likes hire professionals,e.g accountants etc. of course, though bill is not a college graduate he is still very well educated. and to appear educated to convince an employer in nigeria, you have to have a foreign certificate - even employers know little learning is taking place in naija. the whole varsity thing is a sham. that's why they want, international certifications cuz it would be harder to bribe and bluff your way through. for accuontants they want acca ,ican is doubtful, for financiers they want cfa, for computer scientists they want ccna,or oracle or the like. where does that leave the nigerian certs? something to placate your ego with. its just to say you did it. |
if you really read the post and not surmise about the poster you'll see that there's a grievous imbalance in this already diabetic nation. my statement is of course qualified for nations outside naija. but for the naija situation - that paper in your hand is poo. its more terrible when things seem to work when all is so wrong. lets look at this country briefly. what industries do we have, have you not seen that the major industries, the so called pride of the nation are all SERVICE industries? where i live at there private primary and secondary schools every where. what's a school all about - service - service industries don't really produce value, they just maintain the status quo, when i go out , i'm bombarded with ICAN stickers and posters, sure lots of graduates are on the rush to take ican, acca, etc. what are all those? service industries soon we'll have more chartered accountants and not so many companies to work in - cuz there's no production really going on. when there's no production going on, not even agriculture, all you have would be lots of certificated people with no where to go. China is one of the world economic forces to reckon with because - its produces real goods, so you can live a more meaninful life with tangible real goods, an engineer can then do real research and make real contributions cuz they have living industries to try their knowledge on. have you noticed that during the first and second world wars , technology advanced? during the cold war- technology advanced . so ,sorry, this country - is just churning out degrees ,degree armies , who have no where to go. it ends up being just a name tag for ascending one's social class. this is the truth , and it hurts. for all of you, working ,where do you work? in a service industry? in a bank? doing what? clerical work!! in a telecoms firm - a telecoms firm just relays information - from one point to the other like a radio station - that's all we can boast of . and yet a telecom firm is still a service industry - cuz the end product is a connection service. all the production industries of any scale are all foreign, pfizer, nestle, mobile ,etc. they have no vested interest in the nation , they come here, make their money and repatriate it. now tell me how a degree would b of more value if for example, we had non-service industries backing up the service industries, say tires were produced here - then graduates of petrochemical engineering would have something to try their knowledge on, say, oil were refined here, say, drugs were manufactured here - not imported in say, alternative electricity were developed and researched here, say, hospitals were world class and we exported expertise, and these industries wer not subsidized but were open to brutal competion from the world - then the universities in naija would be service industries and would have to produce state of the art graduates to sustain the industries, you'd have shortage of man power and unemployment ratio would be low, not graduates selling recharge cards and riding okadas. but for now, its all a hoax. like i said,in naija, you'r degree is just for your ego. and maybe to travel abroad to go escape the crunch in here. even your professors know there counting time in a dead system. |
i mean 4.5 gpa sms alert disseminated electronically by his department , 1 to 2 weeks after he took the exams (probably while he's on holiday lounging on some beach in hawai)if he slips to 4.4 he'll know (by alert, email) - instant feedback like pain is gonna dog him , do you think such a one could unknowingly slip to poor levels? but sometimes in naija uni's - the task of even seeing one's result is hindered by protocols. on the other hand how come nigerian's abroad seem to fare better ? maybe the information systems over there are more efficient. |
failure? hey common , failure teaches success so lets talk about it . my theory is that information cause kneejerk reactions not the other way round. lik we were taught to go to school and study hard and make good grades. i'm thinking go to school, study, department processes your grades, gives you feedback ,everyother action is a response to the feedback, e.g in your case , you were lax until 400 level ,not because u were intellectually deficient but because - u were getting NO feedback, in the absense of feedback, u based your action on wrong information - ASSUMPTIONS , when you verified your assumptions with true feedback, in 400 level the action took care of itself. so i think, how many people got hit cuz of late, poor feedback. if the student had recieved continouos feedback and still failed then its a noda matter. but like i see nobody wants to talk about "failure" . big deal. if the thing don happen ,e don happen, me i talk about it. cuz i've learnt from it - e.g this pseudo theory of mine - information drives success cuz action or motivation its a reaction to information not really to be focus of effort, the effort should be on getting the timely information-u notice first class and 2.1's got more frequent feedback? anyway, see how this works in modern life, like sms alerts from banks gives you up to date status of your account, sms messages are more instant than snail mail, ditto for email, what's the outcome - better feedback leads to better action. in traditional universities the burden is on the student to get the feedback , then those who are lax in this regard use ASSUMPTION which may be disastrous, but if the burden fell on the departments to generate the feedback for the students ,much like the banks do,ur car speedometer does, etc. i bet they'll be mor phenomal successes. e.g sombody seing a 4.5 gpa in year 1 will strive to keep it or push for 4.8 or 5.0 |
@ajanlekoko na only you dey career thread? any way. pa-r-t-i-c-le physics?? why would you want to study that? if not to increase your self confidence? your interest comes last. what did you study , animal husbandry, english, yoruba. guy 4 says "particle physics" wow!!! - rare course. professor in particle physics- wow!!! bullshit. lets face it, exclusivity is the main reason people want t get degrees. so its really for self confidence. how much does a man really need to "know" to appear intelligent and "make" it in life? secondary school education is enough. but - dare say u don't have a university education - an auxilliary qualification and people look at you like you a talking goat? cmon, nobody really wants to admit it. but that's the fact. that's the fact that makes arsed men - demi gods - cuz they can with a stroke of the pen , sway destinies. cmon u think some lecturers would be enticed to leave their jobs - no , with the power they possess they can do and abuse . why? because , men think and the thinking is entrenched that - "without a university degree" you're nothing. I don't have issues - but i like to speak the truth - which often appears bizzare. okay lets leave the rotten nigerian educational system. why is education abroad so expensive - you really think its cuz its so hard to deliver? spare me- the price is built high because of human psychology - its no more education but acquiring prestige - aint that self confidence boosting. why do people have phD's? oh they'll tell you they love knowledge to death. spare me - they want a cheap legacy beside their puny existence. they may never make a dent in the world on ignorance but its not for contribution to knowledge - its an ego thing. point is - education ,especially in nigeria - is a name and ego thing. how much of acquired knowledge in nigeria is moving nigeria forward? you talked of particle physics. i believe we have professor of all sorts here - why haven't they made an impact on the local power malady? we have departments of computer science here right? tell me , what impact on the global world of software and computation has Africa not even nigeria made. all the softwares you download - come from where? all the softwares running banking systems come from where? so what's the army of professors in computing doing ? toting their names. |
if i said lets talk about how you made a first class may b sb would have been tempted to blab. hmmn, so whats it not to talk about a failure - for one the deed has been done nd you survived it. didnt kill you . actually , talking about it ,reviewing it shows where the fault lay. @ ajanleko you might want to support such a claim that a person who made a 3rd class is ultimately responsible for his failure- i dont think so. i beg to disagree ,not to justify myself but cuz it just aint so in real life except in motivational books and thats just for marketing purposes. in my brief experience at school , i've come to the conclusion that - information drives success and can cause failure. information first, then action later. so many students ,yeah they played around, but some didnt get to know they were going under cuz the information was 'nt published in tme. kinda like your car speedometer telling you tht you're doing 40 mph when really you're doing 180 , and you don't know till its too late. you could blame the driver here but in a way, all his action and confidence was influenced by the information he received. i accused my school of these problem in their still manual information system, but they'll never admit to this side of the story. they'll quip the stale lopsided mantra everybody wants to believe . so if you made a 3rd class - hey,the worst is over - who was to blame? don't lie if you were the one screwing it up. |
update your readers. finland and sweden NOW CHARGE tuition fees . for all you freeloaders get ready to cough out some millions. the party is over. onyibo man no moo moo like that again o. not with droves of opportunists swarming down to take a free lunch. sad but true. phd remains free - sha but u bet - they'll soon tag that. |
it seems like not for the money but for the holders ego sake. that a university degree is useful. it cost say 5 or 6 years but at the end , the bsc /ba graduate has more self esteem that the secondary school student. and with M.A ,phD the self esteem goes higher - though the pocket depth may not correspond. and people correspondingly , in their mind, consider non university graduates to be half human. as if theyr retards, that's why they seem suprised when the "dimwits" do sth. exceptionally well they say "he isnt even a unversity graduate" meaning - he's a slowpoke yet he's so smart - this is the exception - only university graduates aught to be as smart, rich, successful as he/she is - the sheep - whose brain is one quarter alive. infact is seems like an injustice - they won't say it loud - that non university trained people should be successful !!! like success is the exclusive domain of the paper holders. |

let's harp on this 3rd c thing again. like its a guitar we should play. lets strumm its strings some more. i don't know why universities have this 3rd rate system. it's utterly detestable. you can't do master's with it. can't get a job with it get lots of stigma with it need to improve it. but does anybody just wake up and go thru 4 / 5 years of school always knowing right from year 2 that theirmaking 3rd c grades?? well in my case not so. infact--- i believe the feedback system of schools are so poor that some people got the poor grade by suprise. on the other hand, if there's a grade lower than fail some body will aspire for it. paradox - right. but if you got it bad , third class , pass. did you know you'd always be bagging it. no lie here. |
sometimes these hard to pass exams are not worth it. what if i'm an exam phobe? i hate exams and sweat when taking it cuz i always feel i'll fumble. also no matter what paper certification one has in time it becomes obsolete in value - e.g after many years of working- its your performance that will matter not the paper. and you can't bluff performance. why i want to do what i love . like own a popular forum - like nairaland. [seun don't get big headed now!!] write popular applications like - facebook, youtube google. [if these guys failed SAT,GRE,GMAT it didnt mean a thing ] or build a popular computer - like apple macintosh or run a successful business - like starbucks or be a business magnate like - founder of walmart or teach people how to get rich like kiyosaki or write a popular book - like hadley chase or host a television talk show and make billions like - oprah or be a platinum artiste like - late tu pac , m.j phew!! these see the money (maybe not seun) and it came without breaking sweats to get msc,mba ,phd, etc. they did what they loved and no paper certs got in their way. considering that some exams take so long to write so hard to pass. |
why do you think your future is bleak? you're a graduate you're serving - may b redeployed where you employer may want to retain you? you weathered all those years in school - so you know sth. about focus things may turn out different someone may want to hire you cuz you're a graduate and ignore the course you read - and besides with a first degree you may be able to transition into a "professional" course. money will be the issue then . "think and grow rich" |
accounting (1.7 gpa) high fives to all who made low gpa's like me. it's nothing but a number. ![]() |
just wondering. could you have a talent for being confused? i mean after 1000 replies you could still be fuzzy upstairs. uuuuuuuughhhh. our leaders have a talent for lying granted and leased from the devil others have a talent for looting. men they steal so slickly devil sef go say who teach you!!! aint got nothing more to say. its in there somewhere search it with a shovel. |
of course the certification differ else they'd have had the same names. but they all belong to the same field - business, accounting field. in this respect they are not different. like a database administrator and a network / system admin certification in the I.T sector may differ yet they both are for the same industry. get my point. so how do holders of these certificates fair- that's the question against each other. prospects, scope, salary etc. [this thread is dead anyway ] |
its a failure of mba's ,msc , graduate's with top business degrees remain job-seekers. then the whole education system is a flop. forget the salary you may command. what happens when your job is threatened? you'll go down on your knees and beg or form some union to throw some weight around. like ASUU, union of bankers etc. not yabbing you folks. but look at it. if you work in a corporation - somebody started it. somebody started microsoft, mobile oil, manchester united, zenith bank, walmart, facebook, it is the creation of these bold folks , not the government, that's providing the jobs feeding many mouths. so mba's , msc's phD's should be trained to become experts at STARTING something too. if unschooled people (in business) could start something how much more those who've paid millions studied like slaves ,how much more these folks. This world is a failed place. shame. shame on all these institutions that command huge amounts but churn out c.v pushers. |
[the question says it all] you may venture further and compare. ican vs anan ican vs acca cima (what's it) vs acca cpa vs acca vs ican. |
kai - no help here. wanna know how they compare their levels of difficulty and recognition in the work place. can't get these answers from their site. |
need indepth information from an exam takers point of view on the following exams. ACCA, CFA,CIMA ,ICAN,CISA i'm aware that both exams are challenging but which is the bloodiest? how long does it take to sit for all the papers in each exam (assuming no failures) which is deemed more superior? Master's or MBA or (Bsc + charters ). i'm in the process of remedying a 3rd c with a postgraduate programme- bad first outing - does a pass at ACCA, or CFA or CIMA or anyone out there over ride the drawback of a poor first deg? are these papers or certifications really door openers giving the holder international scope? laslty , can someone study for these exams alone i.e by self study? i'm a fan of self study. so can one read a book take the exam and pass well? or is it really necessary to attend some (pricey) classes. how much does it cost to take the exams - i.e registeration and books (in abuja/lagos) |

biblically , yes. i.e for sexual promiscuity. how did she get it anyway!!! screwing around behind your back?! |
any body got experience casting demons out of someone? i want to know. what does it take? christian here - pentecostal. |
wanna know if i can get admission directly into a master's programme in finance/banking/economics with this cgpa i gat. its really low . cgpa less than 2.0 i would consider postgraduates only if i can't get direct admission into master's. but the costs of postgraduates and masters programme would too high !! i'm talking of the u.k fees for international students. will english tests scores help out. e.g toefl , ielts? on the other hand , i'd like to know if a nigerian postgraduate diploma would qualify me for direct admission into a master's programme over there . or whether i'd still be nailed for the 3rd class afterall. then, if the worst comes to it - are nigerian master's programmes really considered so inferior to their foreign counterparts in the international scene - since the paper is for job and career advancement - i may do naija own if i'm bounced for visa. just want a place where i can save time . 1 year masters. or 2 year masters + post graduate. will a gmat test score + toefl / ielts enable me to enrol directly into a masters programme. really want to know. i don't really care about the country - so far as i do the stuff in less time, experience 24 hour electricity, can work and school, low cost of living or affordable, high quality of tuition (world class) please give feedback. |
