Politics / Re: Stop Loan Companies In Nigeria From Harassing And Messaging. Vote by Uwanah15(f): 7:43am On Nov 13, 2021
blazesam:
Now let get this clear.

When you need a debt and someone want to help you curtail some of ur pressing needs, that person appears to be your helper and not a killer.

I was in the courtroom the other day when Sokoloan appeared before them base on NITDA submissions to the court on harassment and over charges.

I now discovered how this fintecs steal rather from customers at higher rate of interest and at short range. Government issued them certificate with description of public borrowing at an interest rate of not more than 12% that is, if a person is to take a loan of 5000 in a week, 14days he/she is to pay back a sum of 5600, meaning 600 is the interest.

Most fintecs like carbon, fairmoney are complying to this government rules and have zero worries with customers and honestly I have not heard or little complains about customer's complaining about this two mentioned companies above.

This fintecs charge upto 30% and not in two weeks but 7days. Think about it, someone who is in need of 5k borrowed from you and u want him or her to return 8k in 7 days, where do you think he will get it from even if you should kill him?

After tarnishing that person's image that he is fraudulent,if you are the one, will you have the heart to be nice even?

Those loan apps are devilish end of discussion. I needed money to pay my fees and I downloaded one app the name is “borrownow". What they showed me was 24k but what was disbursed into my account was 14k to pay back 24k in 7 days. I sent an email to them that I don't want that kind of devilish loan, how will I pay 10k as interest on a 14k loan in seven days?

Thankfully, I was able to pay back 2 days before the due date because my mind was not even at rest at all. Only for me to get an alert of 20k on my phone a few minutes after I paid back and a message from them that my loan application was successful and my loan has been disbursed into my account.

I went to the app and I saw that I am owing them 33k, I started calling them, they did not answer, sent them emails, no reply. I just put the money aside and I did not touch it. A day before the loan got due, not even on the due date they started threatening me and I told them that I can send their money to them because I never asked for it and I did not touch it.

These people then sent messages to almost everyone on my contact list that I'm a criminal on the run with their money and I'm wanted, people should stay away from me and if I don't pay, those people they sent the messages to will be in trouble. I cried eh, even missed my exam in school because of the embarrassment. I had to go and pay back a stupid loan I did not ask for immediately.

Please just stay away from these online loans if you want peace of mind. If there is any way to bring them down, I'm in full support.

Those supporting these loan Apps are evil. We need change in this country.

How can a loan App offer a loan for just 7 days duration with an interest of up to 50% of the money borrowed in most cases? How do they expect some people not to default?

The loan Apps should do justice by following the right procedure. There's a law governing all these and must be followed.

Imagine a loan of 20k to pay back 33k in seven days, is that not more than 50%? But I had to take it because I needed money to pay my fees. Most people who take these loans do it because of the short term financial relief, not knowing they would have bigger financial issues before the week is over. This people operate in a way that would make you keep coming back for more loans. It is hard to set yourself free once you start taking loans from them due to the high interest rate and short loan duration. Sometimes you would even find yourself borrowing from one to pay back another.

Nairaland / General / How Long Does It Take For Loan Apps To Send Messages To Your Contacts? by Uwanah15(f): 4:37pm On Nov 07, 2021
Good day everyone,

A few months ago I had some major financial difficulties and I took a loan from an online loan app to solve it. Since then, it has been a cycle of borrowing from one to pay another, loss of appetite leading to weight loss and a total lack of peace.

I decided to not borrow to pay another anymore so I'll just pay back whenever I can. For them to not disturb me, I blocked all the app permissions, cleared cache, and storage, and also uninstalled all of them.

On Monday, my nairaland(yes the name of the loan app is nairaland), Lcredit, and BorrowNow Loan became due and even after asking for an extension, BorrowNow sent messages to a lot of my contacts. Now the issue is Lcredit and. Nairaland has not done that and it's really making me worried. On one hand I am thinking maybe they don't have access to my contacts again but on the other hand, I am thinking maybe they are waiting to hit me when I least expect.

Please if you're familiar with Lcredit and Nairaland loan apps, how long before they start sending messages to my contacts?
Nairaland / General / Re: Borrow Now Loan App Is A Scam (avoid Them If You Don't Want To Be Depressed) by Uwanah15(f): 6:14pm On Nov 06, 2021
Deloanspot:
If you read the full article you will see why I regard them as a scam. Just in case you didn't read it, let me explain

Borrow Now are using a new technique for defrauding innocent Nigerians of their hard-earned money. It came to our notice that Borrow Now is now imposing loans on their customers even without them requesting loans.
This is a deliberate and criminal act. As a lender, you're allowed to give out a loan only when a customer is willing to request that loan. This is a breach of customer details on their app.

The most annoying part of all is when they start calling the customer, sending all manner of threats and disgusting messages to their customer's contact claiming that the customer is a criminal who has refused to pay them their money. Such actions can cause depression or even suicide most especially when a customer has no idea of what to do.

This is very true, same thing happened to me. I took a loan from them and paid back before the due date only for me to get an alert of 20k and a message from them that my loan has been approved and disbursed, I checked the app and the repayment amount is 32,544 naira. I had to message them that I did not apply for the loan and I don't want it but they did not reply me.

I checked reviews on the app only for me to see that I am not the first person something like that is happening to. I already made up my mind that I am not paying them anything but they started disturbing me and threatening me, I told them I have the exact money and I will send it to them but they went ahead to send messages to my contact. If not that they also sent the message to my dad and he sent the money to them eh, I will not have given them one kobo.

Nairaland / General / These Loan Apps Have Finally Succeeded In Killing Me by Uwanah15(f): 3:31pm On Nov 05, 2021
Good day, guys,

Please I need to talk to someone, that is why I am sharing this. I got a loan a few months back to pay my fees and after that loan got due, I was not able to pay back the loan so I borrowed from another app to pay back. That is how the cycle of borrowing started and I started borrowing from different platforms to pay back another.

The last straw was when I got over 180k from a friend and I spent it paying back loans. I decided that I would delete the apps from my phone and just pay them back whenever I can. But I was mistaken because these people do not give you any grace for an extension.

Now they have sent messages to everyone on my contact list, they even sent to my school group chat saying that I'm a fraudulent person and I am trying to run away with their money and I used them as guarantors so they would also release their details to the public if I don't pay.

Saying it has not been easy since then is an understatement. I have an exam by 3 today but I can not even leave the house because the embarrassment is too much. Even if I go to the exam hall I would be unable to concentrate and it is so funny because I borrowed the money from them so I would be able to pay my fees and avoid being sent from the exam hall.

Please I just want to be free from loans, please if there is anyway anyone who can help me, please do because I don't have anywhere to run to at this point. Even the people I thought were my friends that would have my back were even mocking me. I've not been able to stop crying since yesterday it's like my who life just fell apart.

Please I really need help.

Prayer won't do anything if you don't help yourself.
Report them to National Information Technology and Development Agency (NITDA). They are regulated by the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation of 2019. Sokoloan was fined 10 million naira for breaching data protection and privacy laws. Do not waste time if you want peace of mind. Contact me if you need further assistance on how to go about this report. Regards and take it easy.

Please how do I report them to NITDA? Please its urgent

What of those that downloaded the app with their previous main contact and gave out main contact as emergency numbers.

If one does this will they still have access to your original contracts that were saved during your first download of the app, and would your emergency contacts still be accessible to them as well?

I also want to know this Those idiots called my dad after I explained to them that I have not been paid at work and they should please give me some time. They called my dad and shouted at him. My dad that is not strong before I had to beg him to calm down and tell him that I have paid it, I really don't like that they have given him something new to worry about even after I paid up to half of their money. I already blocked permissions but I want to know if they save the contacts from your phone.

I even sent them an email but I have not gotten any reply. Same thing that happened when I got the credit alert. I sent them an email saying I did not apply for it and I would like to send it back immediately but there was no reply. Somebody said they would call my contacts but I read to prevent that I should deny all the app permissions and uninstall it. Maybe that is why they have not called anybody.

Nairaland / General / A Loan App Is Threatening To Sue Me To Court And Send My Pictures To TV Stations by Uwanah15(f): 8:54am On Nov 03, 2021
Good day, guys,

Please I need everyone's opinion on something urgently. Recently, I needed money to complete payment for my fees I asked around but I was referred by friends to try a loan app. The name of the app is BorrowNow, I registered and I took a loan of 14,000 naira from them to pay back 23,000 in 7 days. The interest rate was too high but I needed the money so I took it.

Thankfully I was able to pay back before the due date and my credit limit was increased to 32,000 naira. I did not need it for anything so I did not apply. Few minutes later I got a credit alert of 20,000 naira from my bank and a text from them saying I am to pay back 32,000 naira in 7 days.

I went through the review of the app on play store and I realised I was not the only one with this issue. A lot of people said after they pay back their loans, they are given loans again without applying.

I sent messages to them but there was no reply so I did not spend the money. Now the loan is due and they are threatening me to pay back the 32,000 naira else they would arrest me, send messages to my contacts and also send my pictures to media houses and post it on social media that I'm a fraudster running away with their money.

I did not take their threats seriously because I know my rights and I know a 50% interest on a 7 days loan is insane. Only for me to see an email from NIMC this morning saying that if I don't pay within twenty four hours they would send my picture and other information about me to media houses and also on social media.

I don't know if I can post a copy of the email here but I am scared. Is NIMC really working with this people or they are just bluffing. Please I don't know what to do I've not been myself since yesterday, I've not been able to sleep or eat I even have an exam this morning but I don't know if I can sit in that exam hall for hours without knowing what is happening and be at peace.

Please somebody should tell me what I can do.
