Foreign Affairs › Explosion In Nashville, USA; FBI Calls It Intentional by V7place(op): 9:09pm On Dec 25, 2020 |
Evacuate Now. There is a bomb': Witness Recalls Chilling Warning Before Explosion
NASHVILLE – The FBI was leading an investigation Friday into an explosion that erupted in downtown early Christmas morning, an incident that rattled residents for miles and is being called "intentional" by authorities.
Police were responding to reports of shots fired near Second Avenue and Commerce Street before 6 a.m. when they saw a suspicious RV outside a nearby AT&T building.
Officers alerted the department's bomb squad, which was en route, when a "significant explosion" happened about 30 minutes later, Metro police spokesperson Don Aaron said. The force of the explosion knocked an officer to the ground.
Betsy Williams, the owner of The Melting Pot, a restaurant across the street from the explosion, told The Tennessean that guests reported the RV was stationed there since Thursday night.
Williams, who lives in a loft apartment on the third floor of the restaurant building, said she heard the sound of loud, rapid-fire gunshots at about 4:30 a.m. After multiple rounds of gunshot sounds, Williams said she called 911. Then, she said, she heard a repeated warning she said came from the RV parked outside her building.
“Evacuate now. There is a bomb. A bomb is in this vehicle and will explode,” she remembers the recorded warning saying. Then, she said, the voice started a 15-minute countdown.
Her family headed to Nissan Stadium, about a half-mile away and waited. When they didn’t hear an explosion, they headed back. That was when they saw a fireball fly over the AT&T building on Second Avenue.
“Whoever did it did give fair warning,” Williams said.
Three people were hospitalized with injuries, police said. None are in critical condition. At least 20 buildings were damaged, Nashville Mayor John Cooper said. It was unclear whether anyone was inside the RV when it exploded.
Nashville Metro Police were going door-to-door with canines in the downtown areas to search nearby buildings and automobiles, though there is no indication of any additional devices.
Several people were taken to the department's central precinct for questioning, but authorities declined to give more details Friday morning.
The FBI is taking the lead in the investigation, spokesman Joel Siskovic said, and will be working in conjunction with state and local authorities. Federal investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also in Nashville late Friday morning.
Smoke rises from downtown after an explosion in the area of Second and Commerce Friday, Dec. 25, 2020 in Nashville, Tenn.
The sound of the explosion could be heard from miles away, and people reported windows shaking from South and East Nashville.
Plumes of black smoke filled the air and several fires flared along what is typically a busy street that intersects with Nashville's famed tourist attraction, Lower Broadway. Alarms inside several buildings were heard going off, and water poured into some buildings, causing structural damage and breaking windows.
Gov. Bill Lee said in a statement that the state would provide needed resources to determine what happened and who was responsible.
Cooper said he toured the damage, describing broken glass and water mains with insulation "blown up" into the trees.
"It looks like a bomb went off," he said. The downtown area will be "sealed off" for further investigation and to make sure everything is "completely safe," he said.
"One more event in Nashville's 2020," Cooper said.
President Donald Trump has been briefed and will continue to get regular updates, according to White House Deputy Press Secretary Judd Deere.
“The president is grateful for the incredible first responders and praying for those who were injured," Deere said in a statement.
Andrew Carr, who is staying at the Viridian apartments on Fourth Avenue and Church Street, told The Tennessean, part of the USA TODAY Network, he jumped out of bed when he heard what sounded like a "giant thunderclap."
He looked out the window and said he saw a "huge fireball" rising up behind an AT&T building on Second Avenue and Commerce Street – describing it almost as "wide as the building itself."
Carr said for the next hour he and his family watched the black smoke plumes rise into the sky and could later see debris on top of the AT&T building.
Residents in the apartment building, he said, have been put in lockdown.
The owner of the nearby Nashville Downtown Hostel told The Tennessean guests were evacuated to Nissan Stadium for shelter. He said he got a call early Friday from his staff who reported hearing a "loud boom" and the fire alarm going off.
He said the hostel is damaged but did not go into details. https://www.yahoo.com/news/explosion-downtown-nashville-damages-buildings-142154033.html

Crime › Kudos To Nigerian Police. Murder Solved Same Day With Help From Youths! by V7place(op): 2:39pm On Dec 25, 2020 |
The Nigerian Police has a very bad reputation and many will say they are thoroughly evil. But many times despite poor motivation, remuneration and bad equipment; they rise to the occasion. See how they solved the murder of an "ordinary" Nigerian within a day by working with the local youths. The family of one Idowu Olawuyi has been grieving after he was stabbed to death by robbers around Bunkas junction, AIT Road in the Alagbado area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro gathered that the 33-year-old was on his way to work at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja, when three robbers waylaid him around 4.20am. During the attack, it was learnt that the robbers dispossessed Idowu of his valuables and while he was struggling with them, one of the robbers reportedly stabbed him in the chest with a knife. Idowu’s elder brother, Adedayo, told PUNCH Metro that the father of one died at the scene of the attack, adding that his remains were deposited in a mortuary. Adedayo stated, “Around 6.30am on December 4, 2020, I was having morning devotion with my family when I missed a call from a strange number. When I called back, the person asked if I knew Idowu Olawuyi and I told him that he was my brother. The person told me to come to Bunkas junction because it appeared as if hoodlums had attacked and killed him on his way to work. “I called my brother’s line but it was switched off. I called his wife, Bolanle, and she said she had not heard from him since he left for work around 4.15am. “At that point, I started believing what the strange caller told me. I also received another call from a different person, who told me the same thing, and because where the incident happened is not far from where he lived, a lot of people, who knew Idowu, saw his corpse lying on the ground; so, they went to his house and on getting there, they saw that his wife was young. They looked for elderly landlords and broke the news to her; they police were contacted and I was also informed. “When I saw my brother’s corpse inside the police vehicle, I saw that he was stabbed in the centre of his chest, just because the hoodlums want to snatch his phone. I wrote a statement at the police station and the corpse was deposited in the Ota General Hospital mortuary. The police and the youth leader in the area immediately swung into action and started combing the environment and one person was arrested. Later on, I received another call that another person had been arrested and one of them confessed to killing my brother. “The case was later transferred to the SCIID, Panti. I went there and the two suspects were brought out and when I saw the person, who killed Idowu, I asked him why and he started crying. He said he didn’t know that my brother would die and that they had already collected his phone and while trying to run away, some nightguards were coming close to them and Idowu held unto his leg, and in the process of setting himself free, he stabbed him.” The deceased’s wife, Bolanle, told PUNCH Metro that Idowu was survived by an eight-month-old baby, Ezeikel, adding that she had been staying with her in-laws ever since the incident happened. She said, “He left home around 4.15am and I was expecting him to call me that he was in the office, but I got no message from him and I tried his two lines but they didn’t connect. Around 7am, some people knocked on my gate and when I opened, they asked if I knew Idowu and I said yes and asked what happened, but I was told that they saw his document. “They said they needed to see someone much older; they met some community elders and afterwards, they came back to inform me that he had a minor accident. It was when I got to our church that I was told what happened. I will appreciate anything Nigerians can do because right now, I am staying with my in-laws and I don’t have any job for now.” When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said, “During the course of investigation, the police were able to arrest two suspects, and because we have credible evidence to prosecute them, they have been charged accordingly.” Source: https://punchng.com/robbers-stab-lagos-airport-baggage-carrier-to-death/

UncommonLogic: I beg this is economy seat not business class. I fly the Business class like once every month...I have practically sat on all the business class seats from ATL to Lagos and back in the the past 5 years of flying back and forth. No, that is Economy Comfort , much more roomier than economy, wider headrest plus free amenities. Employees get whatever seat is available AFTER paying passengers who show up are seated. If none, wait for the next flight or take a flight connecting to another city |

ImDStar: I observed road construction still ongoing. Not sure which picture. But those are not untarred roads in the picture, just snow covered roads, makes it look untarred! But roads are maintained every year and re constructed about every 3 to 5 years. The drastic change in temperature in that part of the USA means it can be 23 Degrees in the morning on Tuesday and 0 Degrees Celcius the next day. This makes the roads contract and expand leading to potholes during late winter and cracks; so as soon as Winter is over all the way to the beginning of the next winter (like now) construction is ongoing. |

More pictures. All that snow you see in the pictures fell in just one day, almost 1 meter; the lawns had grass yesterday (although dead grass, since its winter). People spent lots of time and hard work clearing out their driveways either with shovels or mechanical snow blowers.

The snow brings out a lot of the beauty of the decorations; although in most parts of the south it does not snow much and in a few parts like tropical Florida, it does not snow at all. Merry Christmas is becoming a very political word in the last few years. Some, moving away from Christianity or non Christians dont like hearing it. To them December is also the time for Hanukka ( Jewish holiday), Kwanzaa ( Black holiday) and other holidays-so they want Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas for all the whole of December. To core Christians and those on the political right; its another attack on Christianity, western values and America!!!
