As he was been led away in handcuffs after the judgement; he quickly wrote his lawyers phone number on his palms with a pen. His wife divorced him weeks after he was arrested. Her brother is one of the other three police men charged in the killing of George Floyd.

Chavun is looking at 20 years to life depending on what sentence he gets.

The facility is about 25 miles east of downtown Minneapolis.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was transferred to Minnesota's only maximum-security prison, located in Oak Park Heights, on Tuesday afternoon after he was found guilty on all three charges in the death of George Floyd. Life won't be easy for Chauvin, 45, whose new home is the facility's Administriative Control Unit: He'll spend 23 hours a day in the cell, which only has a bench with a mattress, a toilet-sink hybrid and a shower. Chauvin will get one hour to spend outside the cell to exercise, but he'll be kept away from other prisoners and remain under the watchful eye of prison guards. Guards check-in on prisoners every 30 minutes, and cameras monitor prisoners. The following items are allowed in the unit, according to the Department of Corrections: clothing, footwear, towels, bedding, writing paper and pen, inmate communication forms, toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, soap, shampoo, restricted housing information packet, and a comb. These additional items are also allowed "unless prohibited for safety or security reasons:" personal mail, legal materials, wedding rings, approved religious items, shower thongs, address book, eyeglasses, dentures, prosthesis, approved canteen items, ear plugs, and envelopes. Certain magazines, newspapers, publications, books, and education materials may also be approved, as well as radios. Prison officials told The New York Times he's in the unit for his own safety, but according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections website, there are a few reasons why a prisoner ends up there. "The ACU often houses individuals for disciplinary reasons but may also house some individuals who are on Administrative Segregation," the website reads. "This type of restricted housing is not disciplinary in nature. Sometimes it is used during pending investigations or when continued presence in the general population could pose a particular safety concern." Who Are Some Of Its Most Notorious Inmates? The facility, which can house up to 473 inmates, has been home to some of the state’s most dangerous criminals. Minnesota’s “Weepy-Voiced Killer,” Paul Michael Stephani — a serial killer known for his tearful phone calls taunting police in the 1980s — was an inmate there before his death in 1998, the Star Tribune reported. Mark Antonio Profit, a convicted murderer who was believed to be the “Wirth Park Killer,” died from a drug overdose while a prisoner there in 2002. Byron Smith, who killed his teenage cousins on Thanksgiving 2012, also served out his sentences at the prison, news station WCOO reported. Another inmate, Lawrence Scott Dame, was sent there after he was convicted of fatally bludgeoning his sister, her husband, and their three kids as they slept in their home in October 2000, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported. What the moon looks like over Death Valley in the California desert.
|
Every day, we look up at the sky and see the sun, moon and stars. The other planets in the Solar System are millions of miles away and most people have never seen them except those with telescopes and those who know that some of the planets can be seen at night , although they look like stars since they are so far away. So what if the planets were as close to us as the moon is? Well this is Space artist Ron Miller's rendition of what the sky would look like if the planets were just 240,000 miles away just like the moon is. In an email to Rebecca J. Rosen of the theatlantic.com , he described his work. He began with a picture of the moon over Death Valley in California and then calculated the number of degrees in the sky a given planet would take up at that distance. "For instance," he explained to her over email, "the moon covers just 1/2 a degree. Venus would cover about two degrees, so it would appear about four time larger than the moon." It is beautiful to say the least. Source: https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2013/06/what-the-night-sky-would-look-like-if-the-other-planets-were-as-close-as-the-moon/277247/ |

That Nigeria and Nigerians are seen worldwide as corrupt is no longer news; just last week Transparency International as usual ranked us very high on the list of the most corrupt nations on Earth. To make matters worse, even Nigerians see themselves as beyond redemption as a popular saying nationwide is " Everybody is barawo, na the person wey dem catch be thief" Madam Sola Ogunniyi ( nee Ismail) is the latest Nigerian to prove that WE ARE NOT ALL THIEVES. A protégé of the late Dr. Tai Solarin at the famous Mayflower School in Ikenne, Sola definitely learnt from the great man. The story of her returning N38 million is no longer news. What is news is people’s reaction on social media and nationwide to the story. Whilst most praised her; there were others who saw her as mumu for not running away with the money and a few who said it was no big deal as she couldn’t run since BVN could be used to trace her; their assumptions does not of course explain though why there are still criminals and people who steal and defraud even with existing laws and systems like BVN. We decided to sit down with Sola for an interview. The inspiring young lady is the CEO of sholliefabrics- a fast growing clothier and fashion house in Lagos. @sholliefabrics on Instagram Tell us a little more about Sola Ismail? I am Sola Ogunniyi (nee Ismail) Married to Omotayo Ogunniyi. I have 3 wonderful children. I studied Agricultural Economics @ Ogun State University. I am a believer of God , and yes I am God fearing, I am a Muslim... I love fashion, I love to look good hence my passion turned to business I lost both parents 3yrs apart same date different year. My parents were quite close and no one even believed my mum would stay 3years after Dad's demise. I still cry and still praying to God to console me at the same time. I am thankful for the years they spent on earth with me... Rest on Dad & mum Alh & Alhaja Dayo Ismail ( Baba Adinni of Emakirun Mosque of Ojodu, Lagos) Some Nigerians on Nairaland hailed you; others said you are a mumu and should have ran with the money- what do you say to them? Thank you, Nigerians including close and extended family members who have rightly praised me for refunding the N38m have identified with our cores values of what I am, what I stand for and what we live for. This is what the Yoruba call "Omoluabi" which embodies honesty, dignity and integrity. Many Nigerians see other reasons they would not return d money .Well such actions will be short-lived and the damages of such actions will be forever. I can't be running helter skelter like the Yahoo boys moving from one place to another. * You are the CEO of Sholliefabrics. What does your fashion house do and how can Nigerians patronize you? ShollieFabrics is a home of fashion where Nigerians can buy all range of laces both (for women and Men) Atiku, Cotton, Wool etc We design, we make dresses and We sell Ready to wear @sholliefab_styles and we do AsoEbi for parties. My shop is @ No1 Balogun Strt off Fadeyi Aladura, obafemi Awolowo Way Ikeja. And my Instagram page is sholliefabrics. Who was Tai Solarin to you? What was your experience as a student of Mayflower? I attended Mayflower school Ikenne for my Secondary Education, Uncle Tai was all about Hardwork, Determination and Integrity! Like our school anthem We can be become whatever we choose to be.. This has always been my mantra and that is why I keep aiming higher to be the best in all I do. My experience .. Wow I can write a whole book on that . Uncle Tai taught us Humanity! To love one another and be patriotic.. He would go picking up dead people on the streets ( that other Nigerians would just leave and look away), how he did not collect a kobo as the MD of Defunct people's Bank.. it has shaped my life in a positive way. What Is Your Advise To Nigerians? What I have to tell Nigerians is that we have individual and collective responsibilities to make Nigeria a better place. The change you want to see in Nigeria starts with you as an individual. The image of Nigeria can be projected with a much better narrative when we all do the right thing, remain honest and maintain integrity. Has the Chinese company reached out to you after the events? They just said Thanks.. Honestly as human being let's be realistic I expected a thank you very much the next day but I didn't get it.. Nigerians are largely viewed worldwide as corrupt, thus many are surprised by your action- can we then say not all Nigerians are corrupt? Yes, that is the point. Even if many are, not every Nigerian is a rogue. Many do have the tendency, but no, not every Nigerian is a fraudster. So, many Nigerians are upright, straightforward and trustworthy. Therefore, we can truly say that not every Nigerians is corrupt. As the late legend Dora Akunyili -would say "Nigeria: Great People, Great County!" Source: https://v7place.com/index.php?topic=2262.0

Is Donald Trump Planning A State Of Emergency? In America they call it Martial Law where just like Nigeria, the President can bypass all laws and directly govern the country or a part of it. This seems to be what the President spent Friday discussing with one of his most loyal supporters and self made millionaire "The Pillow Guy " from Minnesota, Mike Lindell. From Yahoo News President Trump appears to be out of options in his quest to con his way into a second term in office. The court challenges didn’t work. Pressuring Republican politicians to hold up the certification of the election results didn’t work. Inciting a mob of thousands of his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol building didn’t work. As things stand currently, Joe Biden is still scheduled to be sworn in as president on January 20th. But Donald J. Trump isn’t one to give up. No, he’s going to “fight like hell,” just like he told his supporters before they attacked the Capitol last week. He’s still got a solid five days to drum up another ill-fated scheme to stay in office, and he’s calling in the big guns. Mike Lindell, the MAGA-friendly affordable bedding entrepreneur also known as the MyPillow guy, was seen entering the White House on Friday. Now why, exactly, is Trump spending his final days in office meeting with the CEO of a pillow company? We don’t have to guess. Lindell left his notes exposed as he was heading into the White House, and it looks like he and the president were set to talk about something related to … steps to be “taken immediately to save” … something, something … “Constitution.” OK, this doesn’t seem good. Let’s keep reading. "…Insurrection Act now as a result of the assault” … something, something … “martial law if necessary upon the first hint of any…” OK, then! So just to reset where we’re at here: As states are struggling to inoculate their citizens against a relentless pandemic that has killed nearly 400,000 Americans, and as the nation continues to reckon with how a violent mob of extremists was able to infiltrate the Capitol and kill five people in an attempt to overthrow the government, the president of the United States is meeting with a pillow salesman to discuss the possibility of instituting martial law. Sound about right. This is far from the first time Trump has turned to Lindell, maybe the president’s most ardent supporter from the business world. The MyPillow guy has appeared at several of the president’s rallies, and even after last week’s insurrection maintained that Trump would remain president for another four years. (Lindell described the riot in the Capitol as “very peaceful,” which will be great news for the five people who died.) He’s also advised the president on Covid-19, and reportedly helped inspire Trump’s promotion of an exotic plant extract as a cure. (Lindell acquired a financial stake in the company that produces the product shortly before pushing it to the president.) Trump even invited Lindell to speak during a coronavirus task force briefing from the White House Rose Garden. “Boy, do you sell those pillows,’ Trump said as he introduced him. Trump bringing Lindell into the White House on Friday shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, which is probably more ludicrous than the visit itself. At least we have a better idea about the nature of the “many calls and many meetings” that have made up the entirety of Trump’s recent daily schedules. LegendHero:Thankyou for your contribution sir. But I disagree with you that this is a useless thread? For one you are here commenting on it; sharing your opinion; and I seriously doubt a person of your calibre would dabble in anything useless. |
Gireiboy:I am an historian, I write things the way they happened and I am open to correction. David was a great King and a man after Gods own heart; but he was also a murderer; we report things as they happened, no bias. I like Nzeogwu and his boys; but a lot of unnecessary blood was shed and I equally pointed that out. |
Gireiboy:History cannot be changed; people just write what they know or their perspective of it. |
Gireiboy:People react based on what they are told until told otherwise or they find new information. Call a man on the phone and tell him, you are sending 1 million naira; he will start rejoicing without seeing you or the money; call another man and tell him his close relative like child, parent or wife is dead ; even though it's a phone call- the man will likely go into instant sorrow even though you may be lying to him. The initial mood in the North was that of rejoicing until the people were presented with an alternative view of things. |
Grayoso:Not justifying cold blooded killings, but eye witness accounts that day say Oyegoke either refused an order or decided to leave the coup. Any commander will shoot a subordinate at that point. It's a universal military doctrine. |
Dedetwo:Very true, Tai Solarin served in the World War 2 British Royal Air Force! |
Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna was executed along with Major Victor Banjo on September 22, 1967 by the Biafrian government of Colonel Ojukwu for allegedly trying to overthrow Colonel Ojukwu. An extremely brilliant officer, Banjo had successfully led Biafrian forces to capture Benin City and got all the way to Ore in present day Ondo State. They would have proceeded to Ibadan and captured the Western Region.

Kwame Nkrumah disliked the Balewa government and supported the more progessive politicians in Nigeria like Chief Awolowo, Aminu Kano and Tarka. When the coup failed, he gave refuge to Major Emmanuel Ifeajuna and allowed him to stay in exile in Ghana. Alas, Nkrumah himself was overthrown barely 30 days later and Ifeajuna was sent back to Nigeria by Ghana's new military government.
