TravelAre You Worth N30 Billion? The FG Is Ready To Hand Over Muritala Airport To You by V7place(op): 4:01pm On Aug 17, 2021
The Federal Government has opened the bids process for the concession of four international airport terminals in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Kano.⁣

The request for qualification (RFQ), as part of efforts to run the facilities efficiently and profitably, is open to firms or consortia with a track record in airport terminal management and net worth of N30 billion per bidding firm or consortium.⁣

The Federal Government earlier proposed 20 to 30 years concession tenure for the facilities, which will enable private investors to own, operate and recoup investments.⁣

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) in 2016 approved the concession of the four major airports in a move to have them run efficiently and profitably.⁣

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, at a project update session with stakeholders, said the concession exercise is open to all qualified entities with the capacity to turn around the fortunes of the facilities.⁣

Yesterday, the Ministry of Aviation, in compliance with the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) and National Policy on Public-Private Partnership (N4P), released a request for qualification for the concession.⁣

Foreign AffairsAfghanistan: 800 People Crammed Into A US Plane As They Escape From Kabul by V7place(op): 4:34am On Aug 17, 2021
US air force plane touched down safely in Qatar yesterday after carrying more than five times its suggested load when hundreds of desperate Afghan refugees flooded the plane.

Reach 871, a C-17 Globemaster III massive military cargo plane used by the US and its allies for the past 30 years, flew from Kabul International Airport late on Sunday, local time.

According to US defence officials, and photos obtained by Defence One, the crew safely evacuated more than 640 Afghan people.

Authorities believe the passenger load was likely one of the largest ever flown by a C-17.

The cargo plane had not been planning on carrying so many passengers however hundreds of Afghans, cleared to evacuate, managed to pull themselves up onto the aircraft’s half-open ramp.

A video posted on Sunday showed Afghans already in the plane pulling other people up as they all crowded around the aircraft.

Faced with either forcing the extra refugees off the aircraft or attempting to take off, “the crew made the decision to go”, an official told Defence One.

“Approximately 640 Afghan civilians disembarked the aircraft when it arrived at its destination,” another official said.

Initial reports suggested there were as many as 800 people on the plane, with audio revealing the flight crew also believed there to be up to 800 people.

Horrific scenes at Kabul Airport

Thousands of people swarmed Kabul Airport as the Taliban surrounded the Afghan capital.

A US official said a number of cargo planes took off with hundreds of people on-board.

There were also horrific scenes at the airport as desperate refugees, unable to get inside the C-17 planes, instead clung to the wings and landing gear as the aircraft took off.

Footage from Kabul Airport showed at least two people falling to their death after the planes took off.

Senior US military officials told the Associated Press at least seven people were dead at the airport, including those who fell from the departing American military transport jet.

Shortly after the scenes from the runway emerged, footage showed Afghans clamouring onto the side of the C-17 and clinging on to its undercarriage as it struggled down the tarmac.

Subsequent footage also showed people falling from the sky.

Online reports indicate at least 12 people were seen holding onto the landing gear as the plane took off. It appears most of those were young men.

SportsNigerian Basketball Team Sets Up Go Fund Me Account!!! by V7place(op):
The Coach of the Nigerian Men Basketball Olympic team, Mike Brown has set up a Go Fund Me Page to support the team.
Of the targeted $1 Million, the group has already raised $8000.

https://gofund.me/7ae06b9e

People are now wondering why the Sports Ministry is not funding the team; which is probably one of the country’s best medal prospects ( no African country has ever won a basketball medal at the Olympics)

At the moment even the kits for the team have not been delivered as Nigerian Customs has placed an embargo on them. Why?

The Nigerian Basketball Federation has been unable to pay customs duties on the kit which was donated by a Chinese sponsor.

According to an insider: The whole team is being funded by the NBA players and some Nigerians in Diaspora.

Nigeria, the country, has nothing to do with that team. Coach Brown has NEVER been to Nigeria.

It's strategy. Australia, unlike the USA and Argentina is in our group. We need to catch them off guard when the real games begin.
Nigeria will top that group. Josh Okogie is a future NBA All star! That team is loaded.
PoliticsDid DSS Stage A "Fake"21 Year Old Laptop At Sunday Igboho's House? by V7place(op): 9:44pm On Jul 02, 2021
This is a 21 year old Compaq Armada laptop; one of the exhibits said to have been recovered from Mr. Sunday Igboho's house during the invasion where two people were shot dead.
The laptop is from around the early 2000s and looks not only "rusted"; it is infact an archaic relic of the early days of laptop computing. Apart from the fact that it ran Windows 2000 and Windows 95; it is almost certain not to have been turned on in over 10 years! Presently its not even worth N10. With the crack by the palm rest, it looks like something picked up from the dustbin or old forgotten inventory,

So is this what Mr.Igboho uses or was this a badly staged job by DSS officials. If this was staged by a DSS official, the guy or girl deserves to loose his June salary!

SportsIme Udoka Becomes First Nigerian NBA Coach! by V7place(op): 8:13am On Jun 24, 2021
Ime Udoka is the first Nigerian head coach in NBA history

Udoka’s late father was born in Nigeria, which qualified Udoka for Nigerian citizenship. He played for the Nigerian men’s basketball team at the 2006 FIBA World Championships.

After leaving Portland State, Udoka created an endowment for an annual scholarship given to both a business student and a basketball player in honor of his father.

“His point of coming to America was for college,” Udoka told FIBA Basketball’s website in 2007. “He got a degree in Business Administration at Portland State, met my mother here, got married and raised his family.”

In his new role as the Celtics president of basketball operations, Brad Stevens made two enormous moves for the franchise before the NBA Finals even began.

The first was last week’s trade of guard Kemba Walker to the Thunder in return for an old friend of the franchise — Al Horford. The second occurred Wednesday, as Stevens reportedly chose his replacement as head coach: Longtime NBA assistant Ime Udoka.

Udoka will step into his first position as head coach after nine years as an assistant. He was initially hired by the San Antonio Spurs in 2012 and spent seven years coaching under Gregg Popovich before he was poached by the Philadelphia 76ers prior to the 2019-20 season. Udoka joined Steve Nash and the Nets last offseason and helped coach Brooklyn’s star-studded squad.

So who is Udoka? Here’s a closer look at the Celtics’ 18th head coach in franchise history.

Udoka has a relationship with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart

Earlier this week, when Stevens spoke to the media for the first time since trading Walker, he said he stayed in “close contact” with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown regarding the Celtics’ coaching search.

Udoka had a leg up as a candidate in that regard: He was an assistant with Team USA and coached both Tatum and Brown, as well as Marcus Smart. Per Stadium’s Jeff Goodman, all three players “liked and respected” Udoka.

Udoka had to grind out a career in the NBA

Udoka, a Portland native, spent his final collegiate season at Portland State University, where he averaged 14.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. The Charleston Lowgators of the NBDL (now the G-League) selected him with the 39th pick in the NBDL draft, and Udoka was called up to play for the Lakers in 2004. The 26-year-old was waived after just four games.

After a brief stint overseas, Udoka returned to the NBDL and averaged 17.1 points per game. The Knicks inked him to a deal in 2006, but Udoka was waived once again.

This time, however, Udoka didn’t need to travel to Europe — his hometown team, the Portland Trail Blazers, signed him and he started all 75 games in 2006-07.

Udoka averaged 8.4 points per game and hit 40.6 percent of his 3-pointers that season, but the Blazers waived him in 2007 to make room for rookie Patty Mills (who, interestingly, Udoka would later help coach to a championship with the Spurs in 2014). Udoka then spent two years in San Antonio, a season in Sacramento, and another season with the Spurs before traveling to Spain where his playing career came to an end.

Udoka can be a recruiter

During Udoka’s lone season with the Blazers, he forged a relationship with then-rookie LaMarcus Aldridge. Years later in the summer of 2015, Aldridge — by then a four-time All-Star — chartered a flight home to Dallas from Los Angeles.

Udoka was in Los Angeles as well, and Aldridge — thinking Udoka lived in San Antonio where he worked — offered his friend a ride.

Udoka agreed to hop on the jet. The only problem: He lived in Los Angeles.

“He’s like, ‘I live here [in Los Angeles] right now. I’m flying just to answer any questions you might have [about the Spurs],’” Aldridge said in 2015, per USA Today. “I was like, ‘Man, you’re crazy.’ I said, ‘Get off the plane.’ He said, ‘No, I’m going to answer any question that you have.’

"So I’m like, ‘You don’t have to do this. Don’t do this.’ He’s like, ‘Nah, I’m not getting off.’”

En route to Dallas, Udoka reassured Aldridge that the Spurs needed his offensive prowess and didn’t want him to fundamentally change who he was as a player.

Aldridge inked a four-year $80 million deal with the Spurs later that summer.

Udoka is engaged to actress Nia Long

Long, who has won multiple awards including three “Outstanding Actress” NAACP Image Awards, played roles in films such as “Boyz N The Hood,” “Love Jones,” “Soul Food” and “Big Momma’s House.” She and Udoka went public with their relationship in 2010 and became
engaged in 2015. The couple has a nine-year-old son together.

One of Udoka’s teammates once compared his fighting skills to Mortal Kombat

Presumably Udoka has no intention of getting into a brawl, but he’s up to the task if you ask his former Nigerian men’s national teammate Gabe Muoneke.

In 2007, Muoneke described a fight that broke out after a game at the African Championships in Algiers.

“[Udoka] was taking people out like in Mortal Kombat,” Muoneke wrote on Hoopshype, referencing the popular, ultra-violent fighting
game. “’Finish him!’ Incredible. …

“In the middle of the whole thing I heard Ime, literally in mid-swing of another opponent say, ‘Watch back, Gabe’ and he calmly, I mean calmly, smeared a guy who, as I turned to see his warning, jumped from the stands with a chair to probably kill me or knock me out to where the crowd would have. I mean, Ime caught the guy in mid-air with a fist and calmly continued his dispatching of oncoming people.”

Udoka received rave reviews from around the league

A variety of voices weighed in on Udoka after the news broke, and opinions were overwhelmingly positive.

Rudy Gay told Stadium’s Jeff Goodman that, unlike many assistant coaches, Udoka won’t tell a player what he wants to hear and won’t back down from anyone, but “he’s got the perfect balance. He’ll laugh and joke, but knows how to be serious.”

Another anonymous coach told Goodman that with Udoka, “it’s not his way or the highway. He has an edge, but he’s not a hard-ass.”

Former NBA executive Ryan McDonough said those who have worked with Udoka see him as a “solid tactician” who is “good at developing strong relationships with players.”

But in 2015, Gregg Popovich offered perhaps the strongest endorsement.

"Udoka] exudes a confidence and a comfort in his own skin where people just gravitate to him,” Popovich said. “He’s a fundamentally sound teacher because he’s comfortable with himself.”

The only problem?

“He doesn’t drink, so I can’t enjoy a glass of wine with him,” Popovich said. “He’s really boring at dinner.”

PoliticsChief Planner’s Unplanned Voyage To Death by V7place(op): 8:03pm On Jun 23, 2021
How Lagos gas explosion shattered planner’s dreams for Nigeria

It was an unplanned journey that should have lasted for a few minutes but ended up being the last for Niyi Odetoye, President of the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON).

Odetoye, a 1993 graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, was one of the victims of the gas explosion which occurred at Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, on Thursday, June 18, 2021.

The unfortunate incident occurred when a gas tanker (13.5 tons LPG truck) leaked its content and set the OPIC structure on fire.

The LPG gas was ignited by fire from the kitchen of a new Chinese restaurant, resulting in the combustion of the gas tanker outside the compound.

His was a sad situation of attempting to run from fire and unknowingly, ran into the fire. The fire led to several damages with three adult males, and two other victims confirmed dead, about 24 different types of cars badly burnt, damages to the OPIC Plaza, and 13 casualties with varying degrees of burns.

Niyi, as often called by friends, couldn’t make it through the inferno that consumed the area as he reportedly lost his life at the scene in an attempt to escape from the fire.

The late Odetoye, who recently spoke on his visions for the town planning profession in a recent interview with The Guardian, died of injuries sustained from the gas explosion, five days from his 47th birthday.

The Guardian learnt that he had made an unplanned visit to a popular mall in Maryland on a fateful night without knowing that it would be the end of his lofty dreams for the profession.

According to a source, he had gone to get some consumables from the mall, only to hear people suddenly shouting ‘fire.

The source said: “The gas exploded and the oasis has a kitchen and you know where there is contact between gas and fire, there would be a great explosion. The kitchen increased the spread of the fire. All the woods and cars were consumed. It was sadly a situation of an attempt to run from fire and unknowingly running into the fire.”

It was also gathered that he drove himself to the mall as the driver had left for home. Although he was survived by a wife, children and family members, his loved ones believed that his exit would thwart plans and aspirations that had been set out for progress before his sudden demise.

With over two decades of successful professional practice which cut across master planning, urban regeneration, resettlement schemes and town planning advocacy, Odetoye was a major voice for change on the major challenges confronting Nigerian cities, which have grown haphazardly over time without a physical development plan.

In an actual sense, in his lifetime, he kept reinforcing the need for physical planning to come into place before development in cities lamenting that the reverse has always been the case in the country.

He told The Guardian recently in an interview that: “It is after you have a development that authorities think of putting in place a physical plan. From that point, it becomes a great task to get the expected result. Apart from that, the government has not been funding planning activities and once you don’t put in place the needed structures and platforms to direct the growth of our cities, it would be difficult to have the growth controlled and as such, there is no way to meet up with the expected standard.”

Beyond his immediate family, a close professional colleague to Odetoye and the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, said he was one of the greatest contributors to the enviable status that the town planning profession currently occupies.

Dr. Salako, the immediate past president of ATOPCON, in a tribute said: “Niyi practised the profession with zeal, exuded finesse and simply demystified town planning consultancy.

“He willingly supported every progressive initiative and reform, not limited to the ease of doing business in Lagos State, building energy efficiency. Equally important was his warm embrace of the most recently launched mobile app for enhanced service delivery of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, during the roundtable with the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN).

“Niyi was adroit. He made every role seem like a child’s play and had a smile for everyone. Words are not enough to describe what he meant to me and the town planning profession.”

“We both served in many professional arrangements and capacities. Little did I know that the wonderful alliance is not meant to outlive the 18th of June, 2021, occasioned by the ugly incident of the gas explosion.

“I thought the future was waiting for us to make more legendary milestone achievements for the town planning family. I will definitely miss you and the whole town planning family, Lagos State chapter and beyond will miss you. I pray to the Almighty God to comfort your beautiful wife, wonderful children and other family members.”

The immediate past chairman, Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), Mr. Adebisi Adedire, in a telephone chat, described his demise as a big blow, stressing that it was devastating to the entire ATOPCON and town planning profession.

The Public Relations Secretary, NITP Lagos, Adewale Adebayo, said the sudden death came to the association with the heaviness of heart and prayed that God should comfort his family, friends and grant him eternal rest.

Foreign AffairsPedestrian Bridge Collapses Onto Washington DC Highway, Injuring Several People by V7place(op): 7:22pm On Jun 23, 2021
(CNN) A pedestrian bridge that likely was struck by at least one vehicle collapsed onto Interstate 295 in Washington, DC, injuring several people and blocking the highway in both directions, officials said Wednesday.

Chris Geldart, acting deputy mayor for public safety and justice, told reporters that preliminary evidence shows that a collision involving multiple vehicles occurred 10 minutes before noon. The bridge came off its moorings.

Geldart said five people taken to hospitals had non-life-threatening injuries.

The span collapsed at Kenilworth Avenue before Polk Street NE, DC Fire and EMS said in a tweet. "We don't have any structural concerns about the bridge. It was last inspected in February," Mayor Muriel Bowser said.

On Wednesday night, Geldart issued a statement obtained by CNN affiliate WJLA stating that the bridge was inspected in February.

A subsequent inspection report last month concluded that the bridge was "a rating of poor condition (4) - the threshold that prompts the multiyear planning process to replace the bridge," per the statement, according to WJLA.

Officials believe a truck may have struck the bridge before the collapse, according to WJLA, and that recent construction work on the bridge was to address the safety of some of its concrete and did not involve structural issues.

Images posted by DC Fire and EMS and aerial footage from WJLA showed one side of the bridge fell onto I-295 southbound, while the part of the bridge on the northbound side remained mostly attached to an elevated platform.

Mangled concrete and metal debris was sprawled across six lanes of the highway and the bridge rested on top of several vehicles.

Full Text of Inaugural Address of ‘President’ MKO Abiola on June 11, 1994

Full Text of Inaugural Address of President MKO Abiola as Delivered on June 11, 1994 at Epetedo, Lagos

Full text of the Epetedo, Lagos proclamation delivered by the late M.K.O. Abiola on Saturday, June 11, 1994.

People of Nigeria, exactly one year ago, you turned out in your millions to vote for me, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. But politicians in uniform, who call themselves soldiers but are more devious than any civilian would want to be, deprived you of your God-given right to be ruled by the President you had yourselves elected.

These soldier-politicians introduced into our body politic, a concept hitherto unknown to our political lexicography, something strangely called the “annulment” of an election perceived by all to have been the fairest, cleanest and most peaceful ever held in our nation.

Since that abominable act of naked political armed robbery occurred, I have been constantly urged by people of goodwill, both in Nigeria and abroad, to put the matter back into the people’s hands and get them to actualise the mandate they gave me at the polls. But mindful of the need to ensure that peace continues to reign in our fragile federation, I have so far tried to pursue sweet reason and negotiation.

My hope has always been to arouse whatever remnants of patriotism are left in the hearts of these thieves of your mandate, and to persuade them that they should not allow their personal desire to rule to usher our beloved country into an era of political instability and economic ruin.

All I have sought to do, in seeking dialogue with them, has been to try and get them to realise that only real democracy can move our nation forward towards progress, and earn her the respect she deserves from the international community.

However, although this peaceful approach has exposed me to severe censure by some who have mistaken it for weakness on my part, those with whom I have sought to dialogue have remained like stones, neither stirred to show loyalty to the collective decision of the people of their own country, nor to observe Allah’s injunction that they should exhibit justice and fair-play in all their dealings with their fellowmen.

Appeals to their honour as officers and gentlemen of the gallant Nigerian Armed Forces, have fallen on deaf ears. Instead, they have resorted to the tactics of divide and rule, bribery and political perfidy, misinformation and (vile) propaganda. They arrest everyone who disagrees with them. Even the 71-year old hero of our nation, Chief Anthony Enahoro, was not spared. How much longer can we tolerate all this? People of Nigeria, you are all witnesses that I have tried to climb the highest mountain, cross the deepest river and walk the longest mile, in order to get these men to obey the will of our people.

There is no humiliation I have not endured, no snare that has not been put in my path, no “setup” that has not been designed for me in my endeavour to use the path of peace to enforce the mandate that you bestowed on me one year ago. It has been a long night. But the dawn is here.

Today, people of Nigeria, I join you all in saying, “Enough is Enough!” We have endured 24 years of military rule in our 34 years of independence.

Military rule has led to our nation fighting a civil war with itself. Military rule has destabilised our nation today as not before in its history. Military rule has impoverished our people and introduced a dreadful trade in drugs which has made our country’s name an anathema in many parts of the world. Even soccer fans going to watch the Green Eagles display in America are being made to suffer there needlessly because Nigeria’s name is linked with credit card and fraud and “419.” Politically, military rule has torn to shreds the prestige due to our country because of its size and population.

The permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council that should be rightfully ours, is all but lost. For who will vote for Nigeria to get the seat if Nigerian military rulers do not respect the votes of their own people?

Enough of military rule. We are sickened to see people who have shown little or no personal achievement, either in building up private businesses, or making success of any tangible thing, being placed in charge of the management of our nation’s economy, by rulers who are not accountable to anyone.

Enough of square pegs in round holes. We are tired of then military repetitive tendency to experiment with our economy: Today, they say “no controls.” Tomorrow; they say “Full controls”. The day after, they say “Fine tuning”.

The next day, they say “Devaluation.” A few days later, they say “Revalue the same naira upwards again Abi?” All we can see are the consequences of this permanent game of military “about turns;” high inflation, a huge budget deficit and an enormous foreign debt repayment burden, dying industries, high unemployment and a demoralised populace.

Our youths, in particular, can see no hope on the horizon, and many can only dream of escaping from our shores to join the brain drain. Is this the Nigeria we want? We are plagued also by periodic balance of payments crises, which have led to a perennial shortage of essential drugs, that has turned our hospitals and clinics into mortuaries.

A scarcity of books and equipment has rendered our schools into desolate deserts of ignorance. Our factories are crying for machinery, spare parts and raw materials. But each day that passes, instead of these economic diseases being cured, they are rather strengthened as an irrational allocation of foreign exchange based on favouritism and corruption becomes the order of the day.

Enough is enough of economic mismanagement! People of Nigeria, during the election campaign last year, I presented you with a programme entitled “HOPE ’93. This programme was aimed precisely at solving these economic (problems) that have demoralised us all. I toured every part of Nigeria to present this programme to you the electorate. I was questioned on it at public rallies and press conferences and I had the privilege of incorporating into it much of the feedback that I obtained from the people.

Because you knew I would not only listen to you but deliver superb results from the programme, you voted for me in your millions and gave me an overwhelming majority over my opponent. To be precise, you gave me 58.4 per cent of the popular vote and a majority in 20 out of 30 states plus the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Not only that, you also enabled me to fulfil the constitutional requirement that the winner should obtain one-third of the votes in two-thirds of the states.

I am sure that when you cast an eye on the moribund state of Nigeria today, you ask yourselves: “What have we done to deserve this, when we have a president- elect who can lead a government that can change things for the better? Our patience has come to an end.

As of now, from this moment, a new Government of National Unity is in power throughout the length and breadth of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, led by me, Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola, as President and Commander-in-Chief. The National Assembly is hereby reconvened. All dismissed governors are reinstated.

The State Assemblies are reconstituted, as are all local government councils. I urge them to adopt a bi-partisan approach to all the issues that come before them. At the national level, a bi-partisan approach will be our guiding principle. I call upon the usurper, General Sani Abacha, to announce his resignation forthwith, together with the rest of his illegal ruling council. We are prepared to enter into negotiations with them to work out the mechanics for a smooth transfer of power.

I pledge that if they hand over quietly, they will be retired with all their entitlements, and their positions will be accorded all the respect due to them. For our objective is neither recrimination nor witch-hunting, but an enforcement of the will of the Nigerian people, as expressed in free elections conducted by the duly constituted authority of the time.

I hereby invoke the mandate bestowed upon me by my victory in the said election, to call on all members of the Armed Forces and the Police, the Civil and Public Services throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to obey only the Government of National Unity that is headed by me, your only elected President.

My Government of National Unity is the only legitimate, constituted authority in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as of now. People of Nigeria, these are challenging times in the history of our continent, Africa, and we in Nigeria must not allow ourselves to be left behind. Our struggle is the same as that waged by the people of South Africa, which has been successfully concluded, with the inauguration of Mr. Nelson Mandela as the first African President of that country.

Nelson Mandela fought to replace MINORITY rule with MAJORITY rule. We in Nigeria are also fighting to replace MINORITY rule, for we are ruled by only a tiny section of our armed forces. Like the South Africans, we want MAJORITY rule today, that is rule only by those chosen by all the people of Nigeria as a whole in free and fair elections.

The only difference between South Africa and Nigeria is that those who imposed minority rule on the majority rule whether it is by black or white, remains minority rule, and must be booted out. I call on you, heroic people of Nigeria, to emulate the actions of your brothers and sisters in South Africa and stand up as one person to throw away the yoke of minority rule for ever.

Late MKO Abiola and Late Gen Sani Abacha

The antics of every minority that oppresses the majority are always the same. They will try to intimidate you with threats of police action. But do not let us fear arrest. In South Africa, so many people were arrested, during the campaign against the Pass Laws, for instance, that the jails could not hold all of them. Today, apartheid is gone forever.

So, let it be with Nigeria. Let us say goodbye forever to minority rule by the military. They talk of treason. But haven’t they heard of the Rivonia treason trial in South Africa? Did those treason trials halt the march of history? People of Nigeria, our time is now. You are the repository of power in the land.

No one can give you power. It is yours. Take it! From this day, show to the world that anyone who takes the people of Nigeria for fools is deceiving himself and will have the people to answer to. God bless you all. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Long live the Government of National Unity.

"They Have Come To Arrest Me, Not My Mouth" MKO Abiola As He Was Being Arrested 27 Years Ago

27 years ago today, Bashorun MKO Abiola was arrested on June 23rd 1994, twelve days after he had declared himself President.

As Policemen surrounded his house; the BBC was interviewing him on the phone and part of the interview went as follows:

BBC: Why are they letting you talk on the phone to the BBC, while they are in the middle of arresting you.

MKO: They Have Come To Arrest Me, Not My Mouth

About 8 weeks earlier on May 10th 1994 ,MKO had been invited by Nelson Mandela to attend his inauguration and reportedly been assigned by the South African the seat reserved for the Nigerian President.

MKO would never see freedom again as he died four years later in July 1998 whilst in detention.

PoliticsNigeria Killed Niyi Odetoye; May Nigeria Not Happen To You! by V7place(op): 11:04am On Jun 20, 2021
For over 30 minutes, maybe up to an hour in the largest city in Africa; no emergency vehicle was available to help Niyi Odetoye and the dozens of others who were suffering from injuries from the avoidable gas explosion that occurred on Thursday June 18th 2021; 5 days from what would have been his 47th birthday.

No Medically induced coma was offered to save their lives; no first responders to control the scene.

Niyi was a 1993 graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Akure from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. He had risen through the ranks of his profession to become President of the Association of Town Planning Consultants of Nigeria (ATOPCON) and ran his own Planning Company: Cityscape Planning. He was also Chairman of Omole Estate Phase 1 in Lagos; a prime residential estate in Lagos.
He never forgot his alma mata as he constantly and continuously gave back to the school and supported his department.

This is not about Buhari, GEJ, Yaradua, Obasanjo, APC , PDP or the Military. What happened on Thursday has happened every year, every month, every week, every day in as many years as we can remember. What happened was Nigeria. The failed system many have been shouting needs to be urgently repaired.

Just last week, a young gospel singer was shot by armed robbers in Ibadan –days to his wedding. He would have lived; but Nigeria’s premier hospital UCH and a private hospital REFUSED to treat him even as he bled to death. Reason: They wanted a police report first!
Almost on a daily basis, vehicles that should not be on the roads-kill people driven by people who should not be driving. Containers that should be securely secured onto trucks are left to fall off and crush people to death like it happened to another alumnus of FUTA; Oluwadaisi Badejo 2 months ago.

There is no reason a functional fire station with ambulance services is not situated within 5km of EVERY HOUSE in metropolitan Lagos such that they can arrive at any destination in less than five minutes. These are the services for which people pay taxes for. These are not privileges, these are the basic requirements of human existence in the 21st Century.

We watched with agony as dozens of school children burnt to death in Port Hartcourt in the plane crash that also took the life of Pastor Bimbo Odukoya in 2005 because there were no fire trucks available. We found out how over 200 army officers suffocated to death in the Ejigbo Plane crash of 1992 because no help came to them for over two hours as the military plane sunk into the swamp and the men were trapped.. We hear of thousands who die every year from road accidents, household accidents, armed robberies, fights all because of non existent emergency services or their slow response.

Accidents will happen, crime will happen as long as humans control the affairs' of this world; but that’s why we have smart people all around us who can minimize the damage these events cause. And by the way, an ambulance is not just a vehicle with the words AMBULANCE painted on it. Unfortunately a real ambulance is better equipped than many hospitals in my country Nigeria. There is a reason the cost to ride an ambulance in many parts of the United States is $3000 ( mostly paid by insurance and no money is EVER asked from any victim in advance especially trauma victims). The equipment in those vehicles saves lives.

There is a limit to the pain a human being can tolerate; before shock kills the person; which is why burn victims in many cases undergo medically induced coma so the body can rest and help fight the damage. I doubt that happened on Thursday.

No matter how many new buildings, refineries, structures, railways are built-they mean nothing if people can die anytime, anywhere, anyhow. The madness needs to stop.

Governor Sanwo Olu seems to be a reasonable caring administrator and like his predecessors he has set Lagos as the example for Nigeria; but we can do more.

May Nigeria not happen to you, because definitely it will happen to someone again today and tomorrow and the day after that until enough good men and women stand up to say no more.
And may the day come when the words : Nigeria happened to him come to mean one was blessed by the vast opportunities in Nigeria.

If you really want to hammer in any investment, please read and research a lot. I saw the article below on Sunday. I am already in ETH, but didnt take the article seriously.

By Monday morning, MATIC was already at 47%; and one thing I have learnt the hard way is not to jump into any position thats already heavily bullish unless I fully understand the coin. I assumed by 50% it would start fallng, It didnt. When it got to 100%, I jumped in -made 10% and instead of getting out-stayed in and lost all my earnings and more.

I was now at loss, but like someone wise told us, you only loose when you sell. So I didnt sell and by Tuesday night, I cashed in about 25% myself.

Please do lots of reading and research. This thing is for serious people and thinkers!

Dogecoin fell to 25 cents, Ethereum to less that $1900, Bitcoin to $30,000.

Yet, In a 2 hour period (5pm to 7pm Nigerian time) Dogecoin rose from 25 cents to 33 cents -almost 40% in 2 hours.

Strategy strategy strategy. Make money whether the market is down or up. Cover all your losses in strategic profits.

Dont let the price fall confuse you. Its the volatility that gives us massive stability. You just need to know how to ride it.

You dont loose if you dont sell. That depends though on your strategy; if you are in for the short term, you should know your exit point whether you are making money or loosing money. Dont let fear and greed make you loose out.

Those who made good money in crypto don't shout up and down like this, you made a little above 2000usd and you are feeling as if you have made it in life, trying to deceive some gullible folks.

By the time the long bearish cycle comes, all of you will allow us to rest in peace, during bullish crypto market, even noobs ll be claiming to be a crypto guru. In this market, only 15% of participants will make money overall, 85% will suffer losses overall, it is not a prediction, but that's how it works. Eagerly waiting for the next crypto market crash, it will be three times fatal than that of 2017/2018.
No, I disagree. Its good to share information so others too can consider if its useful to them and check it out.

It was another human being like me who shared this with me and it has been a blessing; biko let me share it with others too sir.

It doesnt rain every day; if one doesnt plant, one cant reap. Famine will always come-but if one has reaped bountifully during the time of plenty-famine wont be a problem as our store houses will be filled and over flowing.

A market will always fluctuate between bullish and bearish; smart people take advantage when the Bull is prevailing

And making $2000 was weeks ago o; its been almost times 3 that now. Doge to the Moon, and to the Ethereum Classic, Bitcoin and dozens of other coins!!!!! grin

If you are making profits from one coin; invest in another one that you have studied and you believe is viable.

This is my other thread where i talked about DogeCoin : https://www.nairaland.com/6530926/made-over-n1-million-dogecoin

Ethereum Classic went crazy this week too. I got in at $69 and within 36 hours-it had almost tripled to $193.

Always study the historical charts of coins you are interested in, to have an idea of their future trend.

(Ignore the dollar value difference in the pic-I always cash out profits on a regular basis, sometimes up to 10 times in an hour!!!)

Hope everyone got into Ethereum Classic earlier this week. I got in at $69 and the price it tripled to $190 within 36 hours.

Using profit from one coin and investing in another viable coin is good for multiple incrome streams.

Politics" I Sack People Who Dont Perform. President Buhari Is A Nice Guy; He Doesnt"- by V7place(op): 6:01am On May 07, 2021
“I fire people so I get higher execution rates. President Buhari is a nice guy, he doesn’t fire people so he has a slower execution rate,”

Eniola Akinkuotu, Victor Ayeni and Godwin Isenyo
7 May 2021
Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday said when 29 students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, were abducted, the plan was to attack and kill the bandits even if it meant some students would die in the process.

El-Rufai added that Kaduna is currently at war and such would only be considered as collateral damage, a price he would be willing to pay instead of paying ransom.

The governor, however, said before this could be done, the bandits hurriedly changed location which led to the students spending over a month in captivity.

The governor said this on Thursday during a webinar organised by the Africa Leadership Group.

The event which was tagged: ‘Developing a Viable Nation 2’ was hosted by Pastor of Trinity House Church, Ituah Ighodalo.

Responding to a question on his refusal to negotiate with bandits, the governor said, “Two days after the abduction of the Afaka young people, I was assured by the air force and the army that they knew where the kidnappers were with the students and they had encircled (them).

“We were going to attack them. We would lose a few students but we would kill all the bandits and we would recover some of the students. That was our plan. That was the plan of the air force and the army… But they slipped through the cordon of the army. That is why they were not attacked.

“We know it is risky, we know in the process we may lose some of the abductees but it is a price we have to pay. This is war, there will always be collateral damage in war and we will rather do that than pay money because paying money has not solved the problem anywhere in the world.”

El-Rufai admitted that he had “lost weight” over the insecurity in Kaduna State which was giving him sleepless nights.

The governor, however, claimed that insecurity in Kaduna was not as bad as Niger, Katsina and Zamfara but the media only focused attention on his state because it fitted into their narrative of ethnic clashes.

El-Rufai said in Katsina and Niger states, entire villages were sacked by bandits but nothing of such happened in Kaduna.

On why he asked former President Goodluck Jonathan to negotiate with Boko Haram to rescue Chibok girls, the governor stated that he only gave that advice because that was the first time such abduction would take place.

He said Boko Haram is driven by an ideology and not by money in the case of today’s bandits.

The governor also spoke about his expectations for Nigeria in 2023.

El-Rufai said it was his wish that the next President of Nigeria would not be more than 65 years.

The governor said political leadership is mentally and physically draining and a younger person would handle the stress better than an older person.

El-Rufai also said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), hardly achieved much because he is a nice guy that doesn’t like to sack.

He said he believed in sacking incompetent hands and that was why he achieved more.

“I fire people so I get higher execution rates. President Buhari is a nice guy, he doesn’t fire people so he has a slower execution rate,” the governor added.

Talks ongoing for release of Greenfield varsity students – Gumi

Meanwhile, there were indications on Thursday that bandits, who kidnapped students of the Greenfield University, Kaduna, had dropped their threat to kill the remaining students of the university in their custody.

An Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, gave this hint in Kaduna while receiving parents of students of Afaka, who were released on Wednesday.

Recall that a leader of the bandits, Sani Jalingo, had in an interview with the Hausa Service of the Voice of America on Monday, threatened that the remaining 17 students in their custody, would be killed if the Kaduna State Government or parents of the abductees failed to pay N100m and provide 10 motorcycles on or before Tuesday (this week).

But Gumi, on Thursday expressed optimism that the remaining students of the Greenfield University, Kaduna would soon be freed.

The cleric, who indicated that the bandits had rescinded their decision to kill the students, stated, “The talk with the Greenfield University students’ abductors is also going on. You know they threatened to kill all of them after a particular deadline, but after talking to them, they are now lowering their bar.

“So, we are thankful they have stopped killing. And we are still negotiating with them. I hope this Afaka case will also encourage (everybody) to know that there is hope in negotiation and release of the children.”

While fielding question from newsmen shortly after the visit, Gumi said the role he and former President Olusegun Obasanjo played was purely mediatory, noting that fight was between the bandits and the government.

He explained that the bandits while attacking government, attacked government institutions and “innocent children.”

When asked about the reported swap of a bandit for the students, Gumi said, “I cannot confirm that but I can quote the Governor of Kaduna State (Nasir El-Rufai) when the children of Chibok were kidnapped by Boko Haram. He said it was the duty of the government to use whatever means possible to save the lives of Chibok girls. This is a general rule that life is more precious. Now, I am happy that 27 lives have been saved.”

Earlier, the parents of the 27 abducted students had said they were in his residence to thank him for the role he played in freeing their children.

Led by the Chairman and the Secretary of the Parents’ Forum, Mallam Usman Abdullahi and Friday Sanni, respectively, they urged the Islamic cleric to extend their appreciation to Obasanjo.

Meanwhile, parents of the 27 Afaka students on Thursday waited in vain as they couldn’t be reunited with their children released by bandits after 57 days.

The parents, who gathered as early 8am to receive their children at the school premises along the Kaduna International Airport road opposite the Nigerian Defence Academy, were disappointed.

There were reports on Thursday that the students were freed after the payment of N15m ransom and the release of a bandit, who was detained by security agencies following Obasanjo and Gumi’s intervention.

I think it would be more beneficial to all if the thread can be on how to invest in these coins like a tutorial, which coins to invest in, which strategies to use in investing, we can even track coins to know when to invest in them or to sell.... Something like we have in the agric tech and non-agric tech thread with other experts chipping in from their wealth of experience

Thanks for informations you're reeling out here. Kindly differentiate between limits sell and market sell and suggests which one is better when cashing-out.
Whenever you are buying and selling stocks or crypto: you need to enter the price you want to sell or buy it.

Market price is the current price of the coin.

The problem is that as you are typing; the market price (the current price in the market) may change; so when you choose that option-it may be declined or it may take a while for the price to get back to that price.

When selling I always choose a price lower than the market, so that the trade goes through right away; or when buying I choose a higher price than what's obtainable not the market. It does not necessarily mean those are the prices they will go for; it just means the few seconds spent in entering my data and submitting -my order will be processed even if the market price has changed.

Hope this makes sense.

Limit Price is also good to mint profit when you are asleep or not monitoring the market. For example , you can tell the platform to sell 1000 unites of Dogecoin for $0.715 and whenever the market price reaches there, it will sell at that price.
